Left Finds New Important Cause to Rally Behind

Imagine you're a lefty.

No, wait, come back. This is only a thought exercise. There's no patchouli or granola involved. Honest.

Okay, now think about it: two years after it seemed a new era of (liberal) hope and change had swept the nation, your ideology was soundly rejected by the American people. Surely it is now time to take a breather, carefully study the election results and ask yourself what message the American people were trying to send.

Or, you could lash out at someone you hate and embark on a petty campaign against their latest venture.

Guess which path the left has chosen?

It�s one thing if Fox News gives Sarah Palin a platform. But when Discovery Communications � home to the Discovery Channel, the "Planet Earth" series, the Science Channel, Animal Planet, and TreeHugger.com � gives a show to Sarah Palin, it undercuts everything the Discovery brand has come to represent.
Anti-environmentalism has no place in the Discovery Communications lineup. Demand that the company cancel "Sarah Palin's Alaska" before it airs.

Even now, two years after the presidential election, Palin still possesses the power to drive lefties into paroxysms of spittle-flecked rage. It is something to behold. At the link is a petition. Where they want your thoughts. You know, if you've got the time or inclination.

Just saying.

Jim Geraghty previews the first episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" at National Review. When I first heard about the show, I was skeptical. However, this weekend, I saw a number of promos and was charmed. No matter what one thinks of her politically, it is hard to deny that Palin has an amazing amount of charisma, and the camera really does love her and her family. And as irritating as Alaska can be politically, the natural beauty of the place is remarkable.

It seems to me the show has two goals - cause viewers to take a second look at Sarah Palin and get people interested in visiting Alaska. If the show is as good as the promos they've created for it, it will easily accomplish both.

3 What pisses me off about this is that more people will come to Alaska, a buncha tourists. Yeah, I know, tourism supports the economy, but when I was a kid, a tour bus of Far Eastern tourists stopped in front of our house and they took pictures of me with my dog on the front lawn. Creepy. Still makes me wish tourists would just stay home.

Bristol made it to the final four tonight in DWTS which is freaking amazing. Lots of Palin voters out there.

This show will be a positive family friendly adventure showing a strong self sufficient woman doing all this cool stuff and even challenging herself. Sarah does not like heights but climbs a glacier and rock climbs.

That will help with people who only know her through the MSM lens. Once they get to know her on her terms people will be more receptive to her ideas if and when she runs for office. They will give her a chance to describe common sense conservatism and her ideas on energy, jobs, economy, etc.

For example, when she looks into the camera and says "how would you feel if a freak reporter moved in next door to write a hit book on you and your family?"

The average person will say "ya know, she's right I would not like that and she should not have to deal with that either. I'd be pissed!"

Empathy goes a long way in changing peoples perceptions. Then they will be more willing to listen to the conservative message which we know works if delivered by someone likable and charismatic.

I'll watch the first episode, but have to admit from the clips I've seen so far I expect the series will have all the excitement of the Kardashians Go to Alaska. It's great that she's human, but I'm not really interested in Leave it to Grizzly.

Call me an old fart if you want (true), or a Palin-hater (untrue), but the idea of having a possible future president prancing around delivering cute dialog in a sitcom -- albeit an occasionally bloody sitcom -- does not strike me as a good thing.

Instead, the impact from the show will come from the main stream media talking about the show. Leno, Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, etc. And when Kate Gosselin comes on that is when they will focus like a lazer. And in the end it will be Kate, "reality show", and poop bucket that will be remembered and nothing else.
Trust me when I say that these hollywood producers NEVER had Palins best interest at heart. Never! Kate is the proof of that. If you think so you are gullable. Sadly there is a lot of gullable people right now who think this is great for Palin. Hope I am wrong.
