Damn...Alaska Supreme Court Rules Princess Lisa Is Special Afterall

Some bad news to offset the good news in the last post.

Alaska Supreme Court rules that election officials can provide voters with a list of names of write in candidates.

After a day's worth of back-and-forth, the Alaska Supreme Court on Wednesday said voters can look at a list of certified write-in candidates when they go to the polls.

The Supreme Court's decision late Wednesday blocked a lower court ruling made earlier in the day from taking effect while the high court further considers an appeal.

The Alaska Democratic Party and the Alaska Republican Party joined forces this week in court seeking to keep the list out of voting places. They thought they'd won the case Wednesday morning when the lower court judge told the state Division of Elections to remove the list from voting places statewide.

But the Supreme Court decision allows voters at early voting sites to see the lists if they say they need help and want to be shown a list of write-in candidates. The decision could aid Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in U.S. Senate bid; her campaign had fought to keep the lists at polling places.

"This stay will ensure that Alaskans can continue to get the assistance they're entitled to under law," said campaign manager Kevin Sweeney in a statement.

The Supreme Court did say the lists must not disclose the party affiliation of the write-in candidates. And the ballots of those voters who ask for the list must be segregated from the ballots of other voters, pending any additional appeals.

Funny how this comes up now that Mercywitcki is a write in but not before when other candidates went the write in route. I wonder if daddy Merzkowsky appointed any of these judges.

More bad news for Miller...Slu sends along a poll which says Miller is in third place. Poll is of adults, not even registered, let alone likely voters so it's meaningless (thanks to Greggory in the comments for pointing that out).

Is Alaska really going to send this go along, get along hack back to the Senate over an actual conservative and war hero?

I blame Eisenhower.

Joe Miller for Senate

Thanks to Rebecca Grunewald for the heads up on the AK Supreme Court story.

Looks like Miller has a big event in Anchorage today with some big time firepower coming in for the occasion.

2 With Palin, there ain't no way Miller will lose. Perhaps the machinations of the hack woman who will go unnamed will actually scare fake conservatives, and politicians of all stripes into being a little or a lot less detached and disgusting.

If 50,000 new write-in candidates are on the list, it becomes useless...

8 Hold on a sec, eeyores.

How many people are going to switch their votes from Miller to Mucachevska at their polling station with this new rule in effect? Really?

My only worry is that the Democrat candidate's supporters might just decide at the last minute to vote for the "lesser of two evils" when they realize their guy can't win. If that does not happen, the Princess is toast.

14 Politico says the poll was from the "Hays" group, whoever they are, appeared on a liberal blog, and was of "respondents" --- not even registered voters. So, it is a little sketch.

Nevertheless, Joe Miller has been getting hammered in the lib media, so he probably is in some degree of trouble. And Rasmussen has Manchin up 3 today, which also sucks.

media matters or some guy who wrote the article wants beck to tone it down. Beck has audio, I'm guessing by the odd whispering voice, from Lawrence O'Donnell, the guy who imploded on air a couple of years ago and has now resurfaced. They've gone to murdock and the fox shareholders. Funny how they intimate that murdoch wants something done about beck. Funny how they intimate that the shareholders want something done about beck.

I actually feel sorry for beck. He's that kid that comes to the district in 7th grade and immediately bumps the valedictorian so he/she has to get a few lower grades so as not to alienate the entire community but, in the end, they are the valedictorian and they do go to Harvard and the community doesn't know what happened cause the kid who was there from kindergarten seemed to be on top. Beck has also had to deal with the fox prima donnas, o'really, hannity, even shep. I'm sure all those guys are thrilled that beck's ratings dropped even though to his face they say "we love ya beck"....they have to be jealous on some level, were it not for beck they'd be irrelevant by now, he totally energized fox.

Whoever engineered that scam apparently doesn't realize the Telco's keep records of even local calls for about a month for LE use. If it was phone banked and/or robo'd on landlines, they're busted.

Someone should be easily caught and convicted over that scam.

95 In Massachusetts you have to spell the write-in candidate's name properly ("properly" here is defined as the same way the name is recorded on their voter registration). You also have to properly show the write-in candidate's address....to make sure that your vote can be counted for Scott Brown of Boston, MA as opposed to Scott Brown from Worcester, or the current sitting Senator.
I just went through this in the recent primary, working at the polls all day to get both Jim McKenna and a state representative candidate onto Tuesday's ballot, via write-in.
The ruling class does not make things easy for write-in candidates....excepting, I guess, when they are trying to give a great big boost to one of their fellow ruling class members, like Leah Krzyzewski.

They have a point.

Also, they're conservative women's groups. The groups that would be demanding hate-crime charges if I referred to the First Cheeseburglar as a "bitch" on air are still clinging to "She's not a woman, she's a Republican."

Thanks, lacey, I like that.I say that if judges want to be nonpartisan, fine. Let's take the politics out of judging -- no judicial review. They can declare a law to be unconstitutional and then a board of civilians (read: nonlawyers) can decide whether or not they're right. The constitution ain't long, it ain't complicated and it's in English. We can figure it out.

111 75 the thing that kills me is that Murkowski could have run in 2012 against Begich and she would have been guaranteed a win.The GOP should have helped her see this fact and pressured her to run then.I guess Miller can run in 2012 if he loses this year.Posted by: Ben at October 28, 2010 10:24 AM (wuv1c)

112 Miller will win. To the outside media/polls etc. reporting on Alaska is like reporting on a foreign country. They get it wrong every time. Miller has a lot of forces working against him but the boots on the ground know the score. No way in hell Mayor McCheese is even going to come close. There are just not enough democrats in the state. People are disgusted with Murky. Their reign of power is over.
What you see on the outside is not what is happening on the inside.
