What's the Difference?

When I commented on the murder spree against American citizens in Mexico recently, I got the following silly comment from a commenter.

How many Americans were murdered in the tiny little area known as Washington DC in 2009? 143!

Focus on your own country, idiot.

I have in the past, of course, but I cannot help but note that here in the US we do not get incidents like this one.

The severed head of a Mexican police commander investigating the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen David Michael Hartley on Falcon Lake was delivered Tuesday to Mexican military in a suitcase, authorities said.

The commander, identified as Rolando Flores Villegas, was one of the investigators that family members met during a meeting last week at an international bridge near Roma, said Cynthia Young, the mother of Hartley's widow, Tiffany.

Officials said the head was delivered in the vicinity of Miguel Alemán, Mexico, across the border from Roma, Texas.

The area is known to be under control of the Zeta drug cartel, which fiercely protects the sparsely populated ranchland lining the border, as well as the Mexican side of the vast Falcon Lake reservoir.

Young said the family felt the cartels were trying to scare search teams away.

While we may have a crime problem in many of our cities, we don't have anything like that going on -- and certainly not with the regularity of such atrocities in Mexico.

So I'll repeat what I said the other day in my reply -- the criminal enterprises that seem to have taken control in the failed narco-terrorist state to our south have become a national security issue for the United States. When will the US take action to deal with that security threat?
