September 11th, 2001, In Memoriam

Apologies to Gabe for squishing his post, but I suspect everyone here is or was planning some kind of 9/11 memorial post. I suppose everyone may have something unique to say on the topic, whether its their own personal memories, remembrance of friends or family members lost that day, geopolitics or whatever.

I think Gabe put things into perspective, and quite eloquently: It is about remembrance of that terrible day, and the many terrible days that followed. However, heres where Ill respectfully disagree with him (and I know his hearts in the right place): I dont see it as an indulgence or anything he should be embarrassed about. In fact, quite the opposite. By remembering these events we also remember those who lost their lives, and in a way they live on through us.

They shouldnt be forgotten, whether they were innocent victims going about their daily lives or those who rushed forward into danger in order to save others (and I include the Flight 93 passengers who stormed the cockpit in that last desperate attempt plus numerous people within both towers and the Pentagon who sacrificed their lives).

Often times you hear speeches given at memorials for firefighters, soldiers, police officers etc. where its said that they did such and such without without regard for their lives. Well, no, thats not quite how it works. They had regard for their lives. They had families and friends who they wanted to see again. Kids that they wanted to watch grow up. BBQs and weddings to attend. They didnt want to diethey wanted to return home to these things at the end of the day. And they were frightened of what they were facing, with good reason.

But they fought their way through that and advanced anyway, even as those thoughts plagued them and basic human instinct told them to run the other way. Thats my definition of heroic. (I should also mention that there were numerous accounts of similar actions attributed to the people who were in the towers when they were attacked).

So thats where Im coming from on this account: Remembrance, and not just a single day of the year. In a way, I think we almost owe it to them. It's not just ghoulish or prurient interest, rubbernecking or whatever. It just seems that as a nation we have a short attention span,

And it doesn't help that the MFM/MSM tends to sanitize things like this, to gloss it over as if it's some abstract thing that happened in ancient history: "And we musn't get those rednecks all flustered about these things...we must provide the filter and nuance since they don't understand the subtleties of the matter. There are two sides to this story and both are equally valid. We must provide the narrative"

Fuck that nonsense. I want to be reminded every single day of what happened to us. And reminded of those who paid for that with their lives.

And again, no offense intended to Gabe. I understand and am sympathetic to his views on the matter.

Id planned to just tack on some quick thoughts and extra links to his post but I ended up practically writing a novel. It didnt seem right to do that but heres another 9/11 post. More thoughts later though, maybe in the ONT (plus additional links).

Heres the CNN live broadcasts from that day:

17 more of them below the fold. Assuming I don't crash the blog that is.

1 FNC is re-running the real time broadcasts of that day

CNN and MSNBS will probably talk all day about how we should use 9-11 as a lesson in tolerance or some sort of bullshit. You can count on them focusing mainly on the muzzie point of view and how America has become a scary place for them

As much as CNN is teh suckitude these days, they had the most comprehensive coverage of the day. (Not saying it was exactly stellar coverage but they had far more resources than FNC did at the time). Keep in mind this was 9 years ago.

And they will get away with it.

They bank on the good instincts of the nation they hate, wish to destroy. They are protected by the decency of the American people.

And, of course, by the misguided "tolerance" of some.

If we were the savages Osama Obama adores and identifies with, he would not have been able to finish his speech. If we were the hate-filled, uncivilized hordes Imam Rauf wants to build a "victory mosque" for, neither he nor his precious building would be safe.

But we're not. I only hope we will develop the national resolve to remove these cancers on our society legally and peaceably.

I watch all reruns of 9-11 specials. I watch them, and cry, and then burn with the same anger I had on that day. I don't ever want to lose that hatred. Years ago we had a elderly neighbor who spoke of the attack on Pearl Harbor with such anger it surprised me. All those decades had passed and he still felt it as fresh and as fiercely as if it had happened the day before. That is how I want to be.

I watched a program on PBS last night about the Fort Dix Five - a bunch of jihadist wanna-be's that got stopped before they could attack the military installation of that name. Prosecutor in the case was current Governor Chris Christie. There seems to be a theme that is being developed that these were just some innocent 'kids' that really didn't want to do anything bad, that the FBI informant was over zealous. A not so novel defense, that didn't work on the jury so now they'll try it out in the court of public opinion.

Just a heads up that the left may be trying to kill two birds with one stone. Support islam and attack a conservative governor in one fell swoop. I'm not so sure they're going to gain any traction with that, but they still have the 'Free Mumai' types in this area - thirty years later.

45 Still can't watch it.

I can't watch videos of it to this day without becoming angry. I never went through the five stages. Just anger. And it's not just because of what happened on September 11th. It's because, in a number of ways, I think we let them down.

I never bought the unity bit. I took it for granted from day 1 that the left would eventually become focused on their true source of ire, the United States--it was a question of when, not if. If you'll remember, even in the first couple weeks, a few prominents liberals just couldn't help themselves. They just didn't get it and couldn't understand why everybody else did.

I did take it for granted, though, that we'd catch Bin Laden. I did take it for granted that, even after we lost him at Tora Bora, we'd go through hell and high water to catch Bin Laden. I know there's still a search for him and I like to think we're doing everything we can, but when I first heard explanations along the lines of "maybe we can't get him because he's hiding out in Pakistan," my thoughts were "Really? We can't get him because he's protected by the f'king ISI or some remote tribe? That's all it takes to hide out from the United States after demolishing the World Trade Center? I'll be damned."

Hopefully, Bin Laden's actually dead and this wasn't just pusilanimy on our part, but still...damn.

55 Like Masada. Never again.

We know who did this. We know what they want.

And we want to deny that to them. And deny them any win in any context.

And we know who their fellow travelers are. Those who aide and abet this. Those who do not condemn this, and the perps by name, who talk in mealy mouthed platitudes designed to deflect questions from weaker minds and media types.

And we will deny their fellow travelers any victory. We will deny them the ability to preach their hatred, to act on their hatred.

We will hunt down the terrorists, and make ex-terrorists out of them. We will help them push up the daisies.

We know who they are. We know where they are. And we don't give a shit about their whinging and complaining. They had choices to make, and they made them. They now get to live with the consequences of these choices. So fuck off terrorist scum.

2,985 Innocent People were Murdered by Islamic Terrorists on
September 11, 2001 because our government did not know the difference between a tourist and a terrorist, and they still don't.

It has been nine years since that day when the world watched in horror as the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93 became household names for reasons that we would like to forget, but we cannot and must not forget! Who committed the most horrific attack on America soil? Illegal immigrants who manipulated and exploited loopholes in our immigration laws and lax enforcement committed these attacks.

Who can forget those images of the towers cascading into the streets of New York City? Who can forget seeing White House staffers running from the "nation's home" into the streets of Pennsylvania Avenue as they received word that the Pentagon was struck? And we will never forget the first Americans to fight back; the heroic men and women who stormed the cockpit cabin of United Flight 93 trying to prevent an attack on our nation's Capitol and crashing in a field in Shanksville, PA.

Many of the hijackers visas had expired, but that did not stop them from plotting the worst attack on American soil. All 19 hijackers used phony identification to obtain over 50 driver's licenses and used 364 aliases to; open bank accounts, take flying lessons and travel to Logan airport to carry out their cowardly attacks. America must close the current immigration loopholes that lead to the murderous attacks on American soil. Know any families ripped apart by illegal alien drunk drivers/rapists? I do.

62 Two things jumped out at me the day of the attack at which I still marvel. I live within a couple of minutes of the Pentagon. The instant thesecond tower was hit, I thought oh my god they are going to hit dc too, the pentagon, capitol, etc. I had a neighbor who realized the same thing and ran out of the pentagon to the pentagon nursery grabbed his kids and ran south. No one really thought to get the hell out. I will never understand that. I was calling my husband to make sure he was safely not in a big public building as soon as it happened in NY. Secondly, there were NO jets within minutes of DC. Why was our capitol not protected by jets? They could not scramble them fast enough to get here before the plane hit the pentagon. I will also never understand who made the decision not to keep planes at Andrews. They had to be sent from Langley--not far for a fighter but not seconds.

Not a single tremor of sadness overthe deaths of thousands of their fellow citizens and New Yorkers. Not a breath of shock, or anger, or compassion.Nothing. They watched the towers fall and spoke without a trace of any appropriate human emotion at all. 69 Dear god, the anchor on the CNN feed is painful to listen to. Two planes have just hit the WTC, and the only explanation he thinks viewers will "naturally" think of is if there's some kind of error in the navigation equipment. I think everyone who was watching this unfold suspected it was terrorism when the first plane hit, then knew it for fact with the second.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know which network called it as terrorism first?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know which network called it as terrorism first?

Fox replayed portions of their coverage. Jon Scott was on air when the second plane hit. As soon as it hit he said it had to be deliberate and mentioned Bin Laden.

80 I may not be remembering correctly, but when the first plane hit, I don't think we knew right away that it wasa big plane, a jet, I remember thinking that it was a small plane (since they are always crashing in random wildernesses) that had crashed due to pilot's error. It took a few minutes to determine that it was a big plane and we weren't sure it was deliberate until the second plane hit. Instantly, everyone had to know it was terrorism.

87 I wish I had something profound and moving to say, but I don't.All I know is I vividly remember my feelings of surreality and anger of that day. The anger remains, but now I have added shame and disgust because of the cowardice and impotence of certain elected officials, wholick the boots of those who would crush our throats beneath them. My only comfort is that there has been a growing number of people becoming educated about Islam, itsdoctrines of jihad and its designs on global dominance through subversion and violence. My hope is that it's not too late to successfully resist itsencroachment on the civilized world.

94 As usual, I was late to the last post.
I had every intention of posting links to other blogger's tributes on my site yersterday. Really, I did. Then I watched the first one over at Pam Gellar'splace and was so filled with sadness andhatredthat I knew I'd never be able to post them, what with my hands shaking and trying to type through misty eyes.
All I could do was come up with a prayer.
After reading Herr's earlierpost, I also wonder if we have the fortitude and determination to purge radical islam from our country before it's too late. The disgust I feel toward those heartless bastards and the murderouslittle pedophile they worship has grown over the years. The rage I feel towards them and their cult of death surely threatens to poison my soul. I know I shouldn't harbor such feelings, but how am I supposed to feel, knowing that someone who doesn't know me wants to kill me when I've done absolutely nothing to provoke him?
I'm sickened that we've been forced to learn and try to comprehend their foreign language that describe things that are the antithesis of our way of life and our values. Taqqiya, hudna, eid, and so on. I don't want to learn about those things, I don't want to try to understand why their so-called holy book endorses the senseless killing of anyone. I really wish they'd just go away, move and leave us in peace. I also know that's just wishful thinking, that evil never rests, it keeps coming at us like waves, relentless and unceasing.
What's coming cannot be avoided: the evil, the death, the destruction of the "religion of peace" is readily apparent. Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear knows and recognizes the threat. And no one in Washington has those eyes or ears. Islam is a cancer upon the earth and must be removed by any means available to us or else we will surely die from it.
That is the truth, as much as it pains me to write it, knowing in my heart that a fellow human holds such evil within his heart that I may have to defend myself against him to the death. It's as if we've been given a choice, one that we can no longer escape deciding.
Do we choose life or death? Heaven on Earth or a living hell? Preserve our way of life and our beliefs, or submit to something conjured up from Satan's home, written by an evil hand?
What will it take before we decide? How many more shootings and beheadings will we see before we collectively say, "No more."
And I pray there will never be another day like September 11, 2001 again.
God, if it is your will...

97 Not to raise anybody's anger level even further, but one of the most disturbing things I have ever heard came on last year's 9/11 anniversary. I was visiting at someone's home and a fellow was therewho was then enlisted in our Army. He said that he was in high school when 9/11 happened, and he couldn't have cared less about it. To him, it was just another news event far away happening on TV that had no connection to him whatsover. 100 I remember it clearly; that was my second day of work in government. I was sitting in Security to be fingerprinted again (I have really faint ridges) and they'd were tense as hell and had the tiny tv on, that they only turned on if Something Was Happening (I later found out). Another girl and I were sitting there and talking about the "tragedy" of the (first) plane hitting the WTC, thinking it was a horrible accident. Then the second plane hit. Security told us to get out and go home. Later, the building was evacuated. I got home before everything froze up, because of those few minutes' lead I had, I heard about the Pentagon on the way. (Our Admin Asst's son was there--he suffered 2 broken legs and burns but was otherwise ok.) I watched the coverage on my tiny tv, and I was just horrified. The coverage was chaotic and I couldn't use my phone to tell my family I was all right. One of my friends is a flight attendant, on another flight entirely that day, and nine years later they've all been taking self-defense and other courses and are still ready to fight anyone on a plane. She's flying today, with plans to mark the day.
We cogs in the wheels of government still remember: I was talking with a woman who was there at her post in NYCthat day, three years later, and she wept as she told me what had happened. Just this week a bunch of us were talking about it, and how'd our response times have changed in case this happens again, and about the huge loss it was. We think and hope we're all more prepared for such a dreadful thing, but I hope we never have to find out.
I still remember the people jumping out of WTC and I cannot understand the mindset of anyone who thinks that this was not an act of war on us.

108 I remember the 2004 national political conventions. They were the first since 9/11, so you know that both parties were going to commemorate it in some way. The Democrat convention came first that year. So for their 9/11 remembrance, they called up Glenn Close, the actress, who then proceeded, on national TV, to make a rambling, incoherent, disconnected speech that was calculated to evoke sorrow and loss, as if 9/11 was some sort of natural disaster. It made me angry. Our country was attacked, and those idiots treated it like a hurricane or earthquake.

The Republican convention was the following week, and when it was time for a 9/11 commemoration, they called upon one of the relatives of a Flight 93 passenger, and this is how she opened her speech: "The first I heard about 9/11 was when I got a call from my brother on his cell phone telling me that the passengers about to execute a plan to get the plane back."

I have heard nothing like those two speeches better encapsulate the difference between the two parties. Fuck the Democrats and everything they stand for.

I believed every rotten liberal stereotype of GWB before the attacks. Afterwards, I said if he gets us through this successfully, I will vote for him. Remember at that time, it was coming one after another (even though some reports were false - like the Capitol Hill ones). We had no idea how many more attacks were coming. This is probably the moment I officially became a conservative.

I remember telling a co-worker that the buildings wouldn't collapse because they were engineered to withstand this kind of stuff (vaguely remember a plane hitting the Empire State building a long time ago).

I found AoS shortly after the attacks. Perhaps via LFG? I think so. Ironic isn't it.

In the days after, when we learned that the attackers lived in the country for a while before the attack, I remember thinking that these motherfuckers were given a chance to live in the greatest country where they could practice their religion in freedom and have every chance for prosperity and happiness.. we accepted them with open arms into our country and they still went forth with their attack. This is how perverted and fanatical and loyal to their degenerate cause this people are. Nothing can stop them but death. The naive among us wanted to talk. How fucking dumb do you have to be to believe that shit?

I remember thinking life will never be the same. My family is from India and I know what constant riots, strife, war, and victory mosques look like. I know how the most totally meek and mild-mannered Hindus say never to give an inch to these bastards because they will look upon it as weakness and keep taking more. I didn't have any kids at that time, but I was thinking that I really didn't want my kids to be fighting these motherfuckers (as I still fear will be true).

I remember how brain-damaged the liberal mindset seemed after the attacks. Absolutely evolutionarily brain-stem damaged. The instinct for self-preservation of self and family seemed to be totally missing. This TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT. I wanted no part of this suicide cult.

124 I've been thinking about something since last night -- every September 10th I've felt an odd sense of melancholy without really being able to identify why. September 11th, I understand. My sadness and anger comes back in waves all day.
Last night I was talking to my boyfriend and he asked me a question that suddenly made it all clear to me. He asked me if I thought 09.11.2001 had changed me and I knew the reason for this odd melancholy. I went to bed that September 10th thinking myself a kind-hearted, forgiving, civilizedwoman. The next day I found out that I had such a capacity for rage and such a thirst for vengeance that it frightened me. A part of my heart hardened that day and I've never been the same.
I hate knowing that those bastards changed me so profoundly. My life didn't change -- I made a conscious decision that I wouldn't allow them to control what I would and wouldn't do. I took to heart the exhortations not to "let the terrorists win" by allowing fear to control my actions but they changed me.

136 Nine years ago, this country was attacked by Muslim orthodoxy, not extremism. These people weren't interpreting the Koran in some way that distorts it's content. They were following the letter of their religious canon. The violence that they resorted to is clearly, in black and white, presented to Islam's true followers as commandment, not suggestion.
Are there "moderate" Muslims in the world? Certainly. But they are the ones who choose not to obey the dictates of their religious writ. Moderate is an erroneous term. Secular or non-follower is more appropriate. By Islam's standards - heretic is the correct term. Fear would be all that would be needed to turn these "moderates" from non-followers to followers.
If we don't come to terms with the nature of our enemy, we will be overcome - one way or another. Through violent defeat like all of North Africa and Persia were, or through assimilation, just as Western Europe is going through now.

144 Anybody remember when we'd laughingly call December 7 "Slap a Jap Day". Imagine trying that now.
This is why we're losing: After Pearl Harbor, they locked up Jap civilians and nuked their cities. After 9/11, worse atrocity, we get leaders bending over backwards to capitulate, even while pretending, in some cases, to fight them. So we spill American bloodwith essentially no goal of winning any war.

146 While not too many of us saw the horror of 9/11 coming, I spent some time working around a group of Iranian guys in the mid-'70's. They were very clannish and didn't hide their contempt for America very well. A couple of them even wound up out in California to protest the Shah of Iran's dead body. I figured they'd just complete their education and go back where they came from.
Stupid me.
If there were truly moderates in islam, then they wouldn't object to cancelling the Cordoba Victory Mosque. However, given the threatening tone of that imam Rauf's statement a couple of days ago, I oppose this idea all the more. Who does that bastard think he is to threaten us with violence if we don't build it? At the very least, he should have his citizenship revoked and be immediately deported. He is a provocateur, plain and simple. If he doesn't like America, and it appears from his words and actions, he doesn't. he can GTFO of my country and take the rest of his ilk with him.
I'm really trying not to wish anything worse on him. but if he continues to push the issue, he may be surprised at the level of push-back he'll deserve, in whatever form that might take. He is very clearly our enemy, despite the MFM's efforts to portray him otherwise.

Though shocking and horrific, I think I actually felt worse in the years after 9/11. Watching the stealth jihad and sharia advance throughout the formerly-free world. Seeing our 'progressive' wing attach itself to the most regressive force in the world. Media, education, government all coopted by Muslim Brotherhood front groups and their not-that-convincing (to me anyway) spokesliars.

180 I am reposting this previous comment I read at Breitbart by tomtom200.
It is very insightful.
Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult.
In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life.
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.
Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges.
When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.
Heres how it works:As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the > case in:
United States Muslim 0..6%Australia Muslim 1.5%Canada Muslim 1.9%China Muslim 1.8%Italy Muslim 1.5%Norway Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:
Denmark Muslim 2%Germany Muslim 3.7%United Kingdom Muslim 2.7%Spain Muslim 4%Thailand Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:
France Muslim 8%Philippines 5%Sweden Muslim 5%Switzerland Muslim 4.3%The Netherlands Muslim 5.5%Trinidad Tobago Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris , we are already seeing car-burnings. In Russia, grade-schools were attacked. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam, with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:
Guyana Muslim 10%India Muslim 13.4%Israel Muslim 16%Kenya Muslim 10%Russia Muslim 15%
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:
Ethiopia Muslim 32.8%
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:
Bosnia Muslim 40%Chad Muslim 53.1%Lebanon Muslim 59.7%
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:
Albania Muslim 70%Malaysia Muslim 60.4%Qatar Muslim 77.5%Sudan Muslim 70%
After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, beheadings, stoning, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going in:
Bangladesh Muslim 83%Egypt Muslim 90%Gaza Muslim 98.7%Indonesia Muslim 86.1%Iran Muslim 98%Iraq Muslim 97%Jordan Muslim 92%Morocco Muslim 98.7%Pakistan Muslim 97%Palestine Muslim 99%Syria Muslim 90%Tajikistan Muslim 90%Turkey Muslim 99.8%United Arab Emirates Muslim 96%
Is this the future of the United States?

I re-post this every year, just changing the years ago. Please forgive its length.

I wont lie to you, this mass murder scared the hell out of me. But I
was one of the many that knew in an instant who did this terrible
thing.

That fact didnt help me though, because I knew that we would have a
hard time convincing the American people that this was the crisis of our
lifetime and that this threat endangered not only us, but our children
and our grandchildren.9 years ago I wrote a letter to my grown children.

Here is the letter I wrote to my two grown children:

Sept. 20, 2001

Dear xxxx and xxxxx

Last week as I was reading and sometimes looking up to see what was
on the TV, I witnessed the start of the most awful and fearful period of
our lives unfold. I feel that I should try and talk to you both about
it more. I will, but I also decided to write this letter, because
sometimes things are important enough to put down on paper.

We have been given the lives we lead now by a previous generation.
They are often called the Greatest American Generation. This is
because with the help of our allies, they literally saved the world from
domination and repression by two misguided and evil empires; Germany
and Japan. They were determined to rule the world and destroy us (and
the rest of the free world) as a country and a culture.

We now face another threat even more terrible to us and to our way of life.

Now, we and your children, (my grandchildren) are now involved in and
exposed to this terrible conflict between ourselves and a people that
want us to be destroyed, so that their concept of their religion and
distorted beliefs can rule the (our) world.

There is no reasoning with them. They do not care to know of us or to
understand or tolerate our beliefs or religion. We are the product of
the Great Satan which is what they call the United States of America
and which they intend to destroy. They believe that theirs is the one
and only true religion and that all other religions must be subverted
and destroyed.

They hide behind (and call upon), their corrupted religion, in their
crusade (Holy War) to destroy us and our way of life. To do this, they
have distorted and defiled their religion, which in the more moderate
form, teaches compassion. They prey upon the poor, uneducated and
dissatisfied of their lands and others and use their needs and despair
to foster their misguided and evil hatred of anyone or anything
different than themselves or their beliefs. They even teach their
children to hate us and want our destruction.

Unfortunately, sometimes in the past, the United States foreign
policy has done many things to reinforce this bad image of us. We have
helped the wrong people, we have not helped those we should have, when
we should have, and generally did not try and understand or help resolve
problems soon enough. We appeared to have no love or compassion to many
people and we seemed to take sides without reason.

They were right a lot of the time. But most of their problems are
caused by their culture, by their inability to adapt to changing times
and by their religion, Islam, which in of itself is a religion of
conquest and subversion.

How can we as a family handle this? How can we protect our children and ourselves?

We must stand together of course, helping and advising and nurturing
our sense of family and talking to our children (as I am now to you). We
must try to reassure them that we can and will protect and defend
ourselves and them. That we will not be hurt or overcome by these
misguided and destructive people that have vowed to destroy us and our
way of life.

We must also be sure that they do not feel that they or you are in
any kind of immediate danger. Our children must still feel that we are
all still safe. The truth and sometimes mis-stated facts on TV and what
they hear at school must be discussed and any rumors or over-reactions
must be dealt with. The truth will be bad enough, so be sure to reassure
them often by talking to them and showing them you have faith and
confidence by the way you act.

This war will be unlike the others in the history books because some
of it will be fought and won (or lost) without press or public
knowledge. Additional terrorist attacks and the deaths of our soldiers
and more civilians will sometimes be the only visible actions. Our
military will out of necessity have to operate mostly in secret, or at
least in secret until after operations are completed.

It is going to be a war that will last and last and not seem ever to
be won. It will become a way of life. But we must not allow it to rule
our lives with fear and uncertainty.

You must be sure that you do not believe all you see or read in the
media, because, as we were years ago, in the conflict in Vietnam, the
media shades and shapes events.

Our lives (but, not all Americans) and our homeland have been left
out of the struggles of this religious conflict up to now. But now we
have been defiled and attacked here in our county. I was not surprised. I
knew it was coming, I just didnt know when, where or what form of
terrorism it would be. This attack has shown all of us that they are
deadly serious and want to destroy us as a culture.

What else can we do? We can continue to work very hard, enjoy life as
much as we can and to help our country by not giving into these people
and letting them destroy our confidence and our faith in our country,
our way of life and our familys pursuit of happiness.

We can also give of our time and our energies. Kindness, compassion
and cooperation in our community and patience with the coming
restrictive security measures are ways we can help. We must show support
for our Government and for our Military.

Sadly, we dont have the money or the influence to make great gifts
to help our county. We are not in the position now to give military
service or government service. But your children may be in a few years.
Is that something we would want? No maybe not, but it may be necessary
and it certainly is something that previous generations have done to
insure our happiness and our survival. So is it too much to expect that
our children will do the same? Texans have always been at the front of
the line when it came time to protect and serve their country. We and
our children should be no different.

I wish I were forty years younger, I wish I were rich, I wish I could
do more to insure that my children and grandchildren would not have to
face the bad and evil in this world. But I can do no more than tell you
both to be honest and truthful to each other and your children and
instill in them a sense of confidence in themselves and their country
and in our American way of life.

We have seen examples in the last week of the courage and resolve of
the people in New York and in Washington. Be assured that they are not
exceptions, but just great examples of all Americans. We (Americans) can
work harder, produce more, and fight harder and better than any other
nation in this world.

We will continue to prosper and to protect our freedoms. We will not
fear, we may suffer and mourn our dead, but we will persevere and
continue to be the greatest nation on this earth. You must pass these
ideals on to your children. They must grow up with confidence, but
knowing the dangers of this world.

We also as a family need to encourage our representatives to pay more
attention to the plight of other peoples in other lands. To help them
more, and to help change their governments so that poverty, despair and
dis-satisfaction will not foster terrorism and hate. These governments
may not want to change, but we must foster or force change upon them.

We as a family, can and will, even in these dark times, by our attitude
and hard work, provide support and love for our children, ourselves, our
community and our country.

All my Love,

Dad

Of course at that time, I had no idea that we would also be
fighting a war here in this Republic against the forces of liberalism,
socialism and ignorance of the left, and of the Media. This war makes
me even more angry and sad.

As you can see, when I wrote this letter back then, I still held
that there were moderate Muslims. I no longer hold that belief. I
believe that there are just Muslims who wish to subvert and subject us
to Islam through politics, subversion and by using our own beliefs and
Constitution against us.

Some d-bags from a "bipartisan" threat-assessment group were on FOX last night, giving a statement as to our status. Theywere whining about how America was still very vulnerable and said thathomegrown and converted US jihadis were our biggest threat.
I remember not too many years ago, Beck was reading some of UBL's pronouncements and one of them involved going after schools, like Beslan. (This was during the time those Middle Eastern guys were hopping on school buses in FL and the drivers were too dumbstruck to say a word.) We saw that. We were in the Middle East when 9/11 happened. We watched the rejoicing in the streets, and the demonstrations at the Embassy. But what sticks in my mind was a little Arab boy, who saw our car, with obviously American plates, and ran up and blew us kisses, cried and said he was sorry and would pray for us. I wish there more like that little boy. But he is in the vast minority.

If
tomorrow all the things were gone Id worked for all my life,

And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.

Id thank my lucky stars to be living here today,

Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they cant take that
away.
And
Im proud to be an American where as least I know Im free.

And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And Id gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

Cause there aint no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.
From
the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,

across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,
From
Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,

Well, theres pride in every American heart,

and its time to stand and say:
Im
proud to be an American where at least I know Im free.

And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And Id gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

206 I just looked at a picture of a Secret Service member telling George Bush about the attack, and all I can think about is how those worms on the left ran around in the months afterward, gleefully yelling about My Pet Goat.
Andhow they thenponied up for theater tickets to Farenheit 9-11 and rolled around in Michael Moore's filthy propaganda like a bunch of hogs rutting in the mud.
And how the media wrung its hands over non-existent violent backlashes against Muslims and the unseemly emergence of patriotic symbols being displayed openly by American citizens.
And on this day I hate, visercally, those elements on the left even more than I do the terrorists.
Why? Because they undeservedly enjoy the fruits of freedom, fertilized by the blood of patriots and heros, while simultaneously trying to tear down everything responsible for their exceptional good fortune.

209 @Dumb (#124)

You are not alone. I was a classical jewish liberal until 9:03am on 9-11-2001.

No issues with anyone, tolerant, believing in the fundamentally flawed multi-culti nonsense.

As I watched, on live TV, the second plane plowed into the other tower, in 10 seconds or so, my world view changed. I dropped my naive views, realized that we were in an undeclared war against us, whether we had the will or the intelligence to realize this, or not. I understood who it was who wanted to kill us. I understood that it is a case of "us or them" so fuck it, lets kill them.

I realized that there really were two simple positions ... you either were on our side or you were enabling and supporting the terrorists. There was no neutrality possible, no middle ground.

Defenseless civilians had been purposefully executed. Without warning, with no expectation that such a thing should happen.

In a legal sense, yes, it was a war crime. In a legal sense, it was an overt declaration of war. But not a war like WWII.

Our enemies are not simply the Islamist terrorists. Our enemies include anyone who supports them. Those are followers of Islam who cannot explicitly say the hamas, hizballah and qaeda are terrorist groups. They are followers of Islam who claim Israel is a terrorist state. Who claim there is nothing wrong in Darfur. Who think that hizballah have a legitimate reason to exist in southern lebanon.

Our enemies are those who wish to spread Islam by sword. Those who reject everything but sharia. Those who give aid and comfort to people doing these evil deeds.

I am not unhappy about this transformation in myself. It has hardened my heart to a bit, but it has helped me focus upon what matters most.

Embrace this. Take this as a source of personal strength. Learn martial arts. Learn weapons usage. Assume you will need both in the coming years.

EVAN SAYET: I call myself a 9/13 Republican. I grew up a liberal New York Jew; you don't get much more liberal than that--although it was lower-case "l," not what's considered Liberal today. I graduated from high school knowing only one thing about politics: that Democrats are good and Republicans are evil.
I tell a story. It's not a true story, but it helps crystallize my thinking that brought me to become a conservative. I say: Imagine being in a restaurant with an old friend, and you're catching up, and suddenly he blurts out, "I hate my wife." You chuckle to yourself because he says it every time you're together, and you know he doesn't hate his wife; they've been together for 35 years. He loves his daughters, and they're just like her. No, he doesn't hate his wife.
So you're having dinner, and you look out the window and spot his wife, and she's being beaten up right outside the restaurant. You grab your friend and say, "Come on, let's help her. Let's help your wife," and he says, "Nah, I'm sure she deserves it." At that moment, it dawns on you: He really does hate his wife.
That's what 9/11 was to me. For years and years I'd hear my friends from the Left say how evil and horrible and racist and imperialistic and oppressive America is, and I'd chuckle to myself and think, "Oh, they always say that; they love America." Then on 9/11, we were beaten up, and when I grabbed them by the collar, and I said, "Come on, let's help her. Let's help America," and they said, "Nah, she deserves it."
At that moment, I realized: They really do hate America. And that began me on what's now a five-plus-year quest to try to understand the mindset. How could you possibly live in the freest nation in the history of the world and see only oppression? How could you live in the least imperialist power in human history and see us as the ultimate in imperialism? How could you live in the least bigoted nation in human history and, as Joe Biden said, "see racism lurking in every dark shadow"?

No, what made 9/11 far worse than 12/7/41 was that the Japanese first attacked a military target. Wrong it definitely was, but slightly more civilized in a sense than the attacks by savage Muzzies, which were, by intention, directed at civilians.

Also, we had a president who, despite his arrogance and lefty leanings, loved the United States, and a Congress ready and willing to assume the burdens of war.

If we were attacked again today, it would become another "day of reflection," an opportunity for the America-hating turds in D.C. to further their agenda of surrender and phony "tolerance" for our enemy.

Posted by: RushBabe at September 11, 2010 01:51 PM (a3Z62)

217 Mr. President, while you are indeed an excellent orator, you appear to be badly confused.

Islam is most definitely at war with us. Whether or not we admit to this, is our own issue. You can argue semantics if you wish, but it does not fly in the face of repeated organized attacks, not by 'lone wolf' crazies, but by strong adherents to the faith. These individuals believe they are doing g-ds work when they perform their evil acts against us.

With their evil, they seek to alter our political and cultural discourse, to have us submit to them as our overlords. This has worked against a number of European states, specifically Spain, when they rejected the strong leader they had and placed an appeaser in power. It did nothing to stop subsequent attacks against them, as Islam dictates that dhimmis should be humiliated, and may be killed with impunity.

No Mr. President, you are incorrect. Islam is at war with us. And thanks to your directives and leadership, we are standing down from even a defensive posture.

On the 20th of January in 2013, when you depart into retirement, I hope that we still have a country to defend. You sir, have demonstrated an epic failure in your actions, not just in your incorrect assessments of the current state of war against us, but in your abject failure of economic policy, your class warfare, your racial card play ... it disgusts me no end sir. Had you a shred of dignity, you would announce now, before midterms, that you have no intention of running for a second term. Thus clearing the way for someone ... anyone ... to step in, and try to salvage the mess you made.

Islam is at war with us Mr. President, and we have to, at minimum, defend ourselves.

Followed shortly thereafter by a second, equally cryptic message about a second plane also hitting the WTC. (We sometimes get big news items on our cockpit printers) No other clarifying info was received (no ATC radio over the North Atlantic) The interesting part is that he then told his chief Purser to go thru the plane and tell him where all of the Middle-Eastern men were sitting....prescient considering everyone else in the cockpit thought it was a private plane.

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom! You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall! You need me on that wall! We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline! I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "Thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

234 Janet Napolitano threatens America with another terrorist attack, refusing to prevent it.

Congress is planning to split town a week early. What do they know that Janet won't specify for the public?

235 i won't forget, civilians , firefighters-police-emergency services, ever. I pray every soul that dies and every family member that suffered have some semblance of peace within. still i believe we must stay fighting.
i try to be sympathetic to moderates, i think of souls as zhudi jasser..but i have this thought that invades. i cannot understand at all how moderates can be part of a religion that causes so much harm to so many in all nations, the oppression, the killing of their own, following a religion that would advocate killing their sisters , children, brothers, Yes THEY don't but they Know their religious do it everywhere, it's NOT an aberration it IS a central part of it. why want a g-d that advocates hate of everyone else .admiring death more than life , to think freedomiswrong, demanding love and worship of g-d is right?moderates, a constant battle within me believing it is possible.
Where's the fight , where are the moderates, shouldn't they have been in the streets here by the thousands saying NO not in our name?
it makes me feel bad that i question every.one.of.them now.

236 Reposted from another thread:
This war was declared on Western civilization by a malignant Islamic culture saturated with religious extremism.
They want a world Caliphate. America, at least under George Bush, stood in their way.
Obama wants to engage in a fatuous muslim outreach policy, which only serves to encourage their extremist nature. He changed an aggressive counter-terrorism strategy to an overseas contingency against outliers. But then again, hes a total waste of skin.
The first volley in this war was actually fired back in 1979 with the taking of American hostages by Iranian extremists. If Carter hadnt shown his weak tendencies before then, that particular crisis sure did.
When you attack an enemy, you dont half-step. You attack us, we annihilate you, your supporters, your friends, and the fucking camel you rode in on. The Islamists declared war on America, if not Western civilization.
What I find atrocious is the total complacency on the part of the American public. People go about their everyday lives as if they live in a fish bowl and nothing will ever affect them outside of their daily routines. The people who drove to work at the Pentagon and the World Trade Center thought so, too. The people who boarded United Airlines Flight 93, American Airlines Flight 77, American Airlines Flight 11, and United Airlines Flight 175, were on their way home to see friends and loved ones, or on busines. It was an ordinary, sunny September day. The point being, enemies don't pick a day or a time to attack us when we're prepared or expecting it. Which is why vigilance and intelligenceare essential. The Japanese struck as the Christmas holiday approached. There are many conjectures over the reasons why muslim terrorists picked 11 September; ranging from the "911" emergency number to the looking for flights that were cross-country (for full fuel tanks), at a time when the passenger load was low (less people they needed to control). My guess: It was simply the day when their plans came together. The warning signs were ignored and dismissed. Almost 3000 people died because of it.We can say "never again" over and over, but unless we are willing to do what it takes to stop them and prevent it from happening again, the next attack will make 9/11 look like a fucking picnic.
I say this every year:
Its damned important that we not just remember the heinous attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the one thwarted by brave people over a field in Shanksville, Pa., all of which killed nearly 3000, but resolve that it never happens again.
Youd have thought that Pearl Harbor taught us a lesson, but 60 years had passed, memories faded, and complacency set in.
Our borders leak like sieves, our immigration policies are lax, and we have slid back into complacency.
The foolish hesitancy to profile will probably result in another catastrophic attack on America. I hope for the sake of my country, that I am wrong. But, I dont think so.
The problem isand this cannot be stressed enoughis that the enemy has patience. They understand us better than we understand them. They will continue to exploit our openess and unwillingness to completely destroy the Islamic nation-states who breed, fund, train, and indoctrinate their terrorist spawns.
Unless or until we are willing to reciprocate with the same brutallity, they will be back. Til then, this war aint over by a long shot.

237 Often times you hear speeches given at memorials for firefighters,
soldiers, police officers etc. where its said that they did such and
such without without regard for their lives. Well, no, thats not quite
how it works. They had regard for their lives. They had families and
friends who they wanted to see again. Kids that they wanted to watch
grow up. BBQs and weddings to attend. They didnt want to diethey
wanted to return home to these things at the end of the day. And they
were frightened of what they were facing, with good reason.

I wasn't going to watch any fucking TV today and read very little blog stuff, in fact, I stepped out for a few hours to avoid most of this stuff but you make such a very good point.

238 Watch the CNN tapes, and you will learn just how unreliable eyewitness accounts can be. One person thought the second plane was a propeller type. Another person on the MSNBC tapes who did not actually see an airplane thought there was an internal explosion.

I wish I had watched them earlier.

I'm reminded of the scene from the "Dead Zone"

242 #120 - The naive among us wanted to talk. How fucking dumb do you have to be to believe that shit? Amen.
What really got me, and gets me, is all those idiotswho talked about "neutrality" and "tolerance." There is no room for neutrality about 9/11- it is about as simple a moral case as can be made. There is no room fortolerance for those who would murder the innocent and then celebrate it. I have no time for anyone who can't see the evil involved here.

245 Mmm, death-porn!

With at least a hundred innocent victims having been killed for every American who perished on 9/11/01, with any similar event a remote possibility at best, perhaps one could turn down the self-righteous-poutrage-button a notch or two now. Even the SS, psychopaths moral cretins that they were, stopped after executing 100 random citizens for every dead Nazi.

I recall all the wingnuts bloviating that an Obama Administration would inevitably lead to another attack - one much bigger than 9/11 - that the terrorists would pull it off in his first year in office ... oh Memory Hole, is there any BS you can't hide?

'Obama inherited 9/11 from Bush.'

LOLWUT

Perhaps one might take a moment to reflect upon the recent press-release from a Taliban spokesman, who expressed their unalloyed joy over the recent protests in Manhattan hoped to see more of the same. Those protests were a Grade A propaganda motherlode for them, one that didn't cost them a dime, it fell into their lap at the very moment when their public image in the 'Stans is in the toilet - nobody that I know of has done half as much good for the Taliban in the last year as Pamela Gellar.
