Democrat? Moi? Surely You Jest!
Added: Associated Press Plays The Faithful Stooge

Just as the reality starts to hit Democrats that this year is going to be a massacre for them, they have to confront a new fact...it's likely to be worse than they thought.

Democrats kept thinking: Were going to get better. Were going to get well before the election, said one of Washingtons best-connected Democrats. But as of this week, you now have people saying that Republicans are going to win the House. And now its starting to look like the Senate is going to be a lot closer than people thought.

A Democratic pollster working on several key races said, The reality is that [the House majority] is probably gone. His data shows the Democrats problems are only getting worse. Its spreading, the pollster said

...Yet Democratic concern continues to manifest itself in a variety of ways, including the purchasing of ads in districts like that of veteran Ike Skelton of Missouri -- that historically are only in play in miserable political years and were not considered at risk several months ago. And then there are more subtle hints that professional Democrats are worried -- lobbyists are reporting a noticeable uptick in House committee staffers looking for jobs.

...In some races, endangered Democrats are trying to carve out their own separate identities from the national party even if that means bashing Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Check the whole thing out. Aside from a few attempts to cheer up Democrats reading the story, it's pretty tasty.

Jake Tapper has a post along these same lines...Democrats turning against their leadership. He illustrates the point nicely with a bunch of Democratic ads.

There's definitely a theme running through them....

Old and Busted: Yes We Can! We're Democrats.

New Hotness: Independent!

This is my favorite (so far) from the new genre.

"Independent conservative"? Dude you're a DEMOCRAT, own it.

Now you may think, he's from Alabama, what else do you expect him to say? Well, take a look at the one from the guy in Ohio. It's all about illegal immigration. Ohio!

In less than two years we've gone from the idea that Republicans may never be a force in national elections again to Democrats turning on their leadership in order to save their own seats.

Added: Like the good lapdogs they are, the AP chimes in with this report, "As GOP civil war rages, Democrats look to benefit".

Talk about your bitter clingers.

This Democrat Is Running as a Mental Patient [ace]: A Democrat, Chris Young, is running for Providence's mayor. A local station has a feature called "Coffee with the Candidates" in which they give candidates five minutes to talk with the hostess, to introduce themselves to the city.

This guy used his time unexpectedly.

"I hope you learned something."

26 Before everyone starts banking on that Republican majority come November, just remember that Bush's book comes out in mid-October. That's right, W.'s parting gift to the party that he screwed up by pulling it to the left from his first day in office will be to remind everyone of his fantastic programs just a few weeks before the election. Right when Obama's attempts to blame everything on Bush have become a running joke, W. will be right out there reminding everyone of his attempts to provide amnesty and a free house to every illegal he could find, and of how heroic his efforts were to provide trillions of bailouts and impliedguarantees to Wall Street(that they were passed by the Dems in Congress will be conveniently overlooked by the MFM)..
Yeah, the last couple weeks of the campaign are going to look a lot different than you might think right now. The narrative WILL change.

Actually its a case of not paying attention. The Dems and RINOs have benefitted a very long time from having an uninformed uninterested public. They didn't know how they were voting when in DC and only seeing them when they came back to ask to be re-elected.
Now people are pissed and have been paying attention. Like with Harry Reid. He benefitted for a long time by being liberal but hiding behind others so Nevada didn't know how he really was voting. But then he gets the power and sets the agenda in the Senate and he's no longer able to hide.

Of course I don't hear a lot of Republican candidates saying "I'm going to do just what Bush did," either. And I'd have a hard time supporting them if they did.

Generally they're a bunch of pragmatic centrists in search of common sense solutions from around August to November, and then magically transform the moment they get elected. Bill Owens special election was an excellent example of how that game works.

Usually there are enough voters that are asleep enough to make it work for them. I'm really hoping that isn't the case this time. They're about to be fed 2 months of complete bullshit. We need to keep kicking our best and brightest candidates the $'s so that the short attention span theater can get some extended exposure to some truth.

83 Hell, they voted for the Iraq war, agreed that there were indeed WMD's, and then lied straight faced about it later.

Do you think there is any natural limit to hypocrisy?

Even though I first called for Saddam's ouster in 1998, I would just like to say that noted moron who has the speaking abilities of a snail, George Bush, tricked me into voting for the Iraq War. Based on the fact that I let a simpleton trick me with what I believe to be the most transparent lie in history of politics into voting for the worst debacle in American history, I am asking for your vote today. --most of the Democrats in congress.

156 Shame DrewM, a link to Politico w/o warning. Some of us are following the Politico boycott.

From the Jake Tapper article:

After Democrats won a special election in Pennsylvania earlier this year
in which the GOP nominee tried to tie the Democrat, Mark Critz, to
Pelosi and Obama, the Speaker said, What we learn from this election
and I think hopefully Republicans saw clearly, is nationalizing the
election, talking about Speaker Pelosi and President Obama was not as
appealing to the public there than Mark Critz talking to them about
their jobs.

Yes the Dem leadership and spinners like to reference that special election as refuting the slide. It is one of two victories they have had. They think this is a +1 Republican district which I find laughable since it has been Democrat since redistricting in 1973. IOW it is gerrymandered Dem district. When a hardcore Dem crook caught any a bribery scandal is reelected there you know it is not a Republican district. Any Republican will have a very hard time winning that district. So why did McCain win it? he is a liberal RINO and maybe they are racists.

However, all of that being said, Republicans can still screw this up. We will have to remain vigilant and stay behind them. Get the word out when they screw up or the press tries to push lies and spin the way they did with Palin and Fred last election.

162 Time for the morning news roundup:

Yesterday I talked about the bogus highway fund shortfall and the politicians who waste the money on other projects treating the highway fund as a general slush fund. Well here is some more examples of that in other areas (USA Today via link from Drudge:

Cutbacks force police to curtail calls for some crimes

Budget cuts are forcing police around the country to stop responding to fraud, burglary and theft calls as officers focus limited resources on violent crime.
Cutbacks in such places as Oakland, Tulsa and Norton, Mass. have forced police to tell residents to file their own reports online or in writing for break-ins and other lesser crimes.
So where are the social programs that were cut? We have seen too many of these cities where they cut police and fire protection and in the same newspaper article discussed some huge priced art object or some new crap social program to help the poor. People, police and fire protection is the major reason city governments were formed to begin with!
I still say there must be something in the makeup of the population that causes an urban area to go absolutely to shit as soon as the population exceeds 35,000. It must be the same as that experiment the sociologists did many years ago where they started adding rats to a fixed environment. Once they exceeded a set rat/square foot limit the rats started killing each other.

163 More on the Alvin Greene saga from Jim Clyburn

Clyburn wont vote for Alvin Greene
U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, the No. 3-ranking Democrat in the U.S. House, said Wednesday he will not support his partys nominee for the U.S. Senate, Alvin Greene, when he goes into the voting booth Nov. 2.
No, Im not going to vote for Mr. Greene, Clyburn said in answer to reporters questions in Columbia. Look, I have three daughters and a granddaughter. I think it would be an insult to them, if I did that.
One wonders if his daughters is the real reason. After all, he did every damn thing he could do to get Greene shit canned after the primary and the establishment candidate in place. But, in the end, I guess I have to give him the benefit of the doubt, even if he is a Democrat pol whos normal thing is to lie every time they open their mouth.

BTW, He will probably vote for the green but it will be the Green Party candidate.

Bus fares are rising because of declining revenues, but so are the salaries of the administrators who run the local transit system.
An increase of 3 percent in pay and benefits for Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority staffers was left intact Wednesday as the CARTA Finance Committee slashed nearly $40,000 from the agency administration budget.
It seems the 20% subsidy from the gas tax is not enough to fund the bus system in Charleston. They are also being subsidized by a sales tax in Charleston and the law of unintended consequences strikes again. I have spoken on this sales tax thing before. The State legislature has made it possible for local communities to raise sales taxes at will and they are doing it with abandon. Local towns in SC now have some of the highest sales taxes in the country. But with sales tax when the economy goes into the shitter so does the revenue.

Now in a real economy when revenue goes into the shitter the company has to cut back. Do they do that by cutting back on the sales of their product and raising the prices? Hahahahaha, that would be insane. But that is what they are doing here. Like large cities run by communists all over the country, when faced with a budget shortfall they raised rates, cut back on services, and gave the apparatchiks a raise.

And they wonder why the average voter is pissed off.

165 I thought some of the Morons/Moronettes would be interested in this from Mt. Pleasant (Charleston) since we had a big discussion on the evils of tree trimming by utilities. It involves SCEG trimming trees around power lines in the city. The city does have an arborist who will work the tree trimming contractor.

Tree-trimming plan gets scrutiny

MOUNT PLEASANT -- First it was the town's plan to cut down up to 21 trees on scenic Mathis Ferry Road. Now, residents are worried about the South Carolina Electric Gas effort to prune an undetermined number of trees on the road starting Sunday.

170 Philadelphia, at least, has its priorities straight:

Is there cupcake chaos in Philadelphia?

The popular vending truck run by Kate Carrara, known as the "cupcake
lady," needed to be confiscated because she had been warned where not to
park and continued to break the rules, a top city official said
Wednesday.

The cupcake lady's husband, Andy, said she did not intend to violate
any regulations and would try to comply with city requirements.

In the meantime, the operator of another cupcake truck emerged
Wednesday to complain that his truck was confiscated by the city two
weeks ago.

It's a good thing Philadelphia is run by Democrats -- could you imagine how screwed up the place would be otherwise?

PhillyInc: 'Energy innovation hub' for Philly has familiar ring

So the federal government will sink $129 million into an "energy innovation hub" at the Philadelphia Navy Yard?

Tell me why I feel as if I've walked down this road before.
. . .

In December 1994, Philadelphia and Camden received $100 million from
the Clinton administration to establish empowerment zones in
economically depressed neighborhoods. Money was committed to job
training, social services, and tax incentives for business in
Philadelphia's West Parkside, American Street, and North Central
Philadelphia sections, and in North Camden.

At the launch of the program in mid-1995, President Bill Clinton told
leaders of Philadelphia and other cities that got funding that they may
be "creating the way we do business as Americans in the 21st century."

Fast-forward to 2010 and we barely remember the program. Only 12 of
the 32 cities that received empowerment-zone funding saw an increase in
jobs between 1995 and 2003. (Philadelphia wasn't one of them.)

Research by the Brookings Institution in 2005 showed that the effect of the empowerment zones nationwide was "marginal at best."

Another big-dollar dazzler, the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard,
exists today mainly because of $429 million in federal and state
incentives that attracted a shipbuilder here in the 1990s. However, if
Aker doesn't get new orders soon, the sun may set again on shipbuilding
in Philadelphia. Layoffs have begun to trim the workforce of more than
1,000.

2 pens with two ramps. Calhoun found that
rodent utopia rapidly became hell.

He described the onset of several
pathologies:
violence and aggression, with rats in the
crowded pen going berserk, attacking females, juveniles and less-active
males. There was also sexual deviance. Rats became hypersexual,
pursuing females relentlessly even when not in
heat.
The mortality rate among females was
extremely
high. A large proportion of the population
became bisexual, then increasingly homosexual, and finally asexual.
There was a breakdown in maternal behavior. Mothers stopped caring for
their young, stopped building a nest for them and even began to attack
them, resulting in a 96 percent mortality rate in the two crowded pens.
Calhoun coined a termbehavioral sinkto describe the decay."~NIH

Joe Klein is pissed:

Dems Depressed andDisheartened

The lead item on Politico--titled "Dems Urge Obama to Take a Stand"--is almost surrealistic. Take a stand? The
guy passed health care, a stimulus bill that helped avoid a Depression,
a groundbreaking financial reform bill that is too complicated to be
popularly described, a bailout that enabled General Motors and Chrysler
to survive. He nominated two estimable women to the Supreme Court. He
restored America's image in the world. I can go on...

But Dems are distressed? He's not populist or ideological enough? Oh
please. There are several ways to go about the presidency. Ronald Reagan
chose one way: he said one thing and did another. He was for cutting
back the size of government, but didn't. He was for lowering taxes and
he did, but then he raised taxes--two of the laegest percentage
increases in American history--when his supply-side "philosophy" proved a
phony. He confronted the Soviet Union, but he also would have agreed to
massive reductions in nuclear arsenals if the Soviets had allowed him
to pursue his Star Wars fantasy.

Barack Obama has chosen another way.

He has pretty much done what he said he'd do. His achievements are
historic. But he hasn't wrapped them up in an ideological bumper
sticker--or provided some neat way for the public to understand it, or
pretended to be a yeoman simpleton, noshing on pork rinds, clearing
brush and excoriating the business community. That is a real political
problem. He delivered a stealth tax cut to 95% of the American
people; I've never seen a politician cut taxes and not take sufficient
credit for it before. He made it impossible for Americans to be denied
health care coverage because of pre-existing conditions or chronic
problems; somehow this has gotten lost in the "socialist" shuffle as
well. He ended major combat operations in Iraq, on time and without
much fuss--without using the word "victory" or denying the continuing
problems involved in cobbling together a coherent government there.
Another President might have hyped this "achievement" relentlessly.

I find this diffidence sort of admirable and extremely incompetent.
But even if Obama, and his communications shop, had been more focused on
touting his achievements, and even if he delivered his major speeches
on financial reform brandishing a pitchfork and a torch, I suspect the
Democrats would be in pretty much the same dismal electoral shape as
they are now. The country's economic problems--the depth and devastation
of this recession; the possibility that we're in a different sort of
trough than we've ever been in before; the confusion and anxiety wrought
in certain sections of the country by changing social mores and an
influx of non-white immigrants--trump and undermine abstract reports of
successful government activism. So long as the Great Recession
continues, it's easy--indeed, it's natural--to question any bailout, any
stimulus project, that might protect and create jobs for some, but
leaves the vast majority of Americans unaffected. So long as white
middle-class Christian Americans live in the fear that their children
won't live as well as they have, it's easy to blame Latinos, Muslims,
gays, mixed-race couples (who produce ethnically confusing amalgams like
Barack Hussein Obama) and elitists for attempting to steal the "real"
America. It's easy to credit the paranoid prejudices of Glenn Beck.
-------

So the story is Obama hasn't bragged on himself enough!

The comments there are funny if you like laughing at left wing cranks.

191 Here's some of that shadyfreud stuff from Time:

3

I
think Democrats saw Barrack Obama as the answer to the Reagan era.
They saw the Great Recession as a chance to redefine America and bring
it back to Liberal views - a chance to clearly demonstrate that
Reaganism small government (not to be confused with reasonably small
government) is bad, that a social blanket is a good thing and with it we
had a hope that the Liberal fantasies of a truly better society would
come about. And to boot, we had someone with both the intelligence and
charisma to sell it to people, control of both houses and a super
majority to boot
.
What'd we get? A unified Republican opposition, the tea party, Fox News
more than doubling it's competitors combined, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck -
all of these things that stand as the antithesis to what we hoped for
and to our combined horror, they were ALLOWED to get away with their
garbage by both the media and the Democrats. The end result, the only
things able to get through without an insane amount of fight were TARP
and the auto bailouts (read: bailouts for corporations). Stimulus was a
struggle. Health care was a blood bath that resulted in nothing short
of an attrocity compared to what Liberals hoped for. Economic bill a
year later. Climate bill axed. Immigration axed. DADT delayed (though
I expected that one). The list goes on and on
.
No wonder Dems are feeling miserable right now.

194 Jason Altmire and Bobby Bright followed Ojesus. Bobby was well known to the
High Priestess, so he went with Ojesus into the courtyard of the High Priestess's house, while Jason stayed outside by the gate. Then Bobby went back out, spoke to
the girl at the gate, and brought Jason inside. "Aren't you also one of the disciples
of that man?"

"No, I am not," answered Jason.

It was cold, so the servants and guards had a charcoal fire and were standing around it,
warming themselves. So Jason went over and stood with them, warming himself.

Jason was still standing there keeping himself warm. So the others said to him,
"Aren't you also one of the disciples of that man?"

But Jason denied it. "No I am not," he said.

One of the High Priestess's slaves, a representative from New York, spoke
up. "Didn't I see you with Him in the garden?" he asked.

Again Jason said "No" - and at once a rooster crowed.

There are people who swear that BO is ubiquitous. Always plugged in, always in the loop, always with a "pulse on the peeps" so much so that they believe he posts on liberal websites along with them. With all the rain, the contaminated ocean waters, the trip to the bookstore, the alleged breakdown in family values by watching dvd's, a lot of folks were feeling bad for the kids. Stuck for ten days in so so weather, not being able to swim, or do the "rainy day vacation" stuff you do with kids normally, people felt bad for the kids. They don't care if mom and dad are the president and first lady, all they know is that their family vacation is really horrible and "boring". Most parents would have gone home when faced with the bad water quality and the rain and the best place on the planet for a stay-cation is DC. It can rain for two weeks in DC and if you have kids their age you can spend days and days in museums and at historical places and just having coffee and desert and eating ice cream. I'm sure the press release was to let everyone know that inspite of all the problems he was having fun, literally. Not so sure about the kids and I'm thinking this annual ten day foray is for the kids and parents to bond. Anyway, if he was reading the blogs, even libs/dems felt bad for "the kids" so maybe he felt compelled to issue his press release to let everyone know they had fun....now waiting for the kids' press release.

204 More from Time:

The hatred of Obama by the ranting right is so vicious and unhinged,
that surely something else is at work. Implicit in all the lies and
lunacy is rage by NASCAR America at being presided over by a "n-----".
They don't come out and say it -- in fact, anyone articulating it
publicly is drummed out of the movement -- but listen closely to the
rants, and you can hear the code.
.

Obama and the Congress are doing what Americans have always complained
that politicians won't do -- vote their conscience instead of whatever
will get them re-elected. This happened to the Democratic 107th
Congress under Clinton. The budget reform that ushered in a decade of
prosperity also got that Congress replaced with the GOP, which proceeded
to plunder the nation on behalf of their predatory patrons, culminating
in six year of complete GOP rule, which brought on the worst worldwide
financial meltdown in generations.
.

It took a decade and a World War for a Democratic president and
filibuster-proof Democratic congresses to dig America out of the last
great GOP pig-out. And now the dumbed-down, infantile, narcissistic
American public, their greed harnessed by the GOP, expect Obama and
Congress to undo the damage in only a couple of years?
.

NASCAR America's rage is so depraved and obtuse, so seemingly willful,
as to be accountable by only one thing. I have only seen this quality
of hatred once before -- in the Southern reaction to the civil rights
movement of the 50s and early 60s. This is not a coincidence. Nor is
it a coincidence that today's GOP is dominated by Southerners. They may
not talk the talk, but believe me, they haven't changed. They've wised
up. "Racist? Moi?"
.

In theory, the right's Obama-hatred is no more racist than the left's
Israel-hatred is anti-Semitic. But guess what? In fact, both usually
are.
.

Democrats may be "depressed and disheartened," but they are under no
delusion: they realize that their moment is brief. They have done right
by America and are wiling to take the consequences. Though perhaps
prematurely, this president and congress evoke William Allen White's
words about Woodrow Wilson:
.

With calumny rampant around him, he tasted the ingratitude of his
Republic -- the statesman's ancient cup of hemlock. No wonder that on
the high and empty altar where the flame of his fame was quenched and
the cold charred ashed were strewn, he lay helpless while the high
priests of the temple cut out his heart.

Analysts

News radio was all over it. They said it was going to be prosecuted as
a hate crime. There's nothing the news about it today. What gives?Posted by: Ed Anger at August 26, 2010 09:07 AM (7+pP9)

Turns out the teabagger is actually a lefty who works for a group supporting the mosque. Fake hate crime to gin up sympathy for the mosque - he made the mistake of getting caught.
Down the memory hole!

OT: Once again the left-wing nut blogosphere is off the rails!

*right cheeze?

From Ben Smith at Politico:
But as often at the intersection of politics and violent crime, the
story doesnt appear to fit any easy stereotype: The alleged assailant,
Michael Enright, is according to his Facebook profile and the website
of the left-leaning media organization Intersections International a
student at the School of Visual Arts and a volunteer for Intersections,
which recently produced a statement of support for the Park51 project
and is funded by the mainstream, liberal Collegiate Church of New York.

did the Sycophant Junction crowd hire this left-wing goon to help their Jew-hating bigoted Dhimmi cause?

Just wondering?

220 "Government agents can sneak onto your property in the middle of the night, put a GPS device on the bottom of your car and keep track of everywhere you go. This doesn't violate your Fourth Amendment rights, because you do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy in your own driveway - and no reasonable expectation that the government isn't tracking your movements. public office to cure poverty and social injustice.Posted by: maverick muse at August 26, 2010 07:27 AM (H+LJc)

I would be willing to bet big money Chris Young has already been rejected a number of times from a seminary.

222 10 1987 according to the NYT. Democrats held the House through both terms. The 97th Congress (1981-1983) saw a relatively thin Republican majority
in the Senate (53-46, so not enough for the 60% override) which ended in 1987.

225 Ed, I only caught part of it this morning on F F, but they were saying there are 1) no links at all to this guy being a teabagger, 2) he was extremely drunk and 3) signs point to mental instability...he apparently has some journals wherein he didn't have nice things to say about muzzies. The MSM probably didn't find the smoking gun they were hoping for.

Actually, blogs are reporting that the stabber is a pro-GZ Mosque lefty. If true, then that explains why the media is silent. Either Gateway Pundit or Weasel Zippers has the breakdown...

Obamacare.

What could possibly go wrong?

An independent analysis says 3 million seniors may have to switch Medicare drug plans next year whether they like it or not.
The reason: a new effort by Medicare to try to make it simpler for consumers to pick prescription coverage.
It
could be an unwelcome surprise for seniors who hadn't intended to make a
change during Medicare's open enrollment season this fall.
And it risks undercutting President Barack Obama's promise that people can keep their health plans if they like them.

Posted by: Ed Anger at August 26, 2010 09:37 AM (7+pP9)

233 There's nothing the news about it today. What gives?

Yesterday was a bad day for the rabid left. Mike Bloomberg got called out by Daniel Pearl's family for exploiting their son's death. A mosque supporter cursed out an 83 year old Holocaust survivor. The cab driver was stabbed by a Park51 employee. (Is this name better than Ground Zero mosque or Cordoba House? It sounds like "Area51" -- creepy.) Russ Carnahan's office was, turns out, firebombed by his own staffer. CBS reports mosque opposition is up to 71% now, though they're still pushing that it's "legally permissible." If these mosque developers could build without permission, they would, so we know once again the media is lying and the Dems are going to hell in a handbasket.

235 They have done right
by America and are wiling to take the consequences.

Good. Take your lumps and go the fuck away, Democrats. The proof is in the pudding, and anyone can read your bills, look at your budgets and replay your quotes -- all a matter of public record -- and make up their minds whether you cared about helping Americans or pigging out at the trough. Your race card is tiresome and played out. Your blaming a party that's been out of power since 2006 is likewise. If you can't lead, get out of the way.
