Missouri Proposition C (Obamacare) Returns: Opt out - 73.6% Stay in - 26.4% UPDATED

282 442 of 3354 precincts reporting.

The first of 3 (I think) state referendums on Obamacare, to amend state law to "deny the government authority to 'penalize citizens for refusing to purchase private health insurance or infringe upon the right to offer or accept direct payment for lawful healthcare services.'" Last month a Missouri judge rejected a challenge to remove Prop C from the ballot.

We know what Pete Stark thinks. Here's hoping Missouri sends DC a big "oh, well then allow us to retort."

UPDATE: 1517 precincts reporting, YES: 75.6% NO: 24.4% (or Yes votes only leading by 51.2% as that goober ExJon would put it)

Question: What's the spin tomorrow? "What's wrong with Missouri?" I'd have said anything less than 60% they could blow off, but 3 to 1 sounds an awful lot like what we've maintained for months is the general public reaction to Obamacare.

Yep. But Arizona Prop 101 declared that Arizonans could not be forced to buy any health insurance, or have their choices limited, by federal government mandate. The issue wasn't even on the front burner anywhere, but it just about passed in 2008, while the Indonesian and his useful idiots swept the election. That was opposition to the idea of the federal government dictating health insurance to individuals even back before anything concrete was being considered.

Yeah, our most populous counties in WA (King, Pierce and Snohomish) were the last to report in our 2004 election. Basically, they were waiting to see how many ballots they needed "to find" in boxes in cars, stuck to the sides of the voting machines etc. in order to hand Queen Christine the win. Gov. Fraudoire eventually got her win (after losing the election and the first recount, she "won" the second recount).

NOAA uses auroral data plots of the most recent activity to predict activity around each pole. The most active times are going to be guesstimates on when the coronal mass ejection hits the planet, your ability to see activity will depend on the levels of interactivity of that mass and the magnetosphere. While you can get an estimate of the time of impact, actual auroral activity is a crap shoot as far as how bright, how active is it. Or even how visible, depending on how dark your site is for viewing. Where I am in the country, it's fairly dark, the light dome from Rochester to the west is significant, and I can't see anything under magnitude -4 over that way. To the east and at zenith, I can easily see magnitudes down to -9 to -10 which are fairly dim. Light pollution can really impact something like aurora as it's ephemeral at best. Sometimes you get monster storms like we had several years ago, and no city light is going to blank that out. Doubt this has the kind of energy of that one though. Best thing to do, is just go outside, look north after your eyes have adjusted for about 20 minutes.

136 texas, here's an example of one of my 12.5s in walnut.

has digital setting circles, shroud, takes down and sets up in about 5 minutes and you can put it in any car out there for transport.

starts at $4000 and goes from there with your choice of woods, focuser, and finish. Options are pretty much whatever you want. Setting circles, finders, secondary and primary mirror heaters.

139 yeah I'm just not going to say anything about the lightbridge as my momma tells me if I ain't got anything nice to say...

that meade has singlehandedly crushed the market for builders like me. there used to be about a dozen guys around the country building these scopes, and then meade came out with that synta made scope and they vanished over night.

obsession makes some nice scopes, I was lucky enough to be in cherry hill when all four of the 36 inchers he's made were in one spot at one time, was a seriously impressive collection of glass. I don't think I'd touch one that size, they just get way too serious and at the point you really need a crew and a trailer dedicated to that scope. That and the fact that you have to be on a ladder about 15 feet off the ground in the dark to look through the EP, is just scary.

141 #141

I think you're overestimating the numbers we'll be seeing in MO tonight.

The city of St. Louis is only 354,000 people (not voters), since the county is a separate entity.

If every person in STL voted against, it would shift the numbers you show there, but just slightly, to the other column. Turnout is expected to be low in the city, and less than half of them are likely registered to vote, and not all of them (most, but not all) will vote 'No.'

There's still KC, of course, but STL is not the powerhouse one might think.

I got my 30 from Vaughan at Intermountain a few years ago. Not sure who's doing glass that big anymore. A piece that big is going to put a pretty serious dent in a 20,000 dollar bill. Most of my optics are through either Discovery, who is the base glass for my scopes, or Torus and Zambuto for upgrades. I use DAR mirror cells and moonlight focusers as base items as well. Upgrades for the focuser are Feathertouch. You can get ahold of me at unclefacts at gmail dot com and let me know it's you. It's also my spambox.

178 MSNBCAP-
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Missouri voters have strongly
approved a new law that rejects a key provision of President Barack
Obama's health care overhaul.

Tuesday's vote approving the ballot measure is seen as largely
symbolic because federal law generally trumps state law. But it could
portend trouble for the Democratic Party in November's midterm election.

Legislatures in other states have passed similar measures. But
Missouri is the first state to challenge aspects of the law in a
referendum.

Missouri's law prohibits the government from requiring people to
have health insurance or from penalizing them from paying for their own
health care. That conflicts with a federal requirement that most people
have health insurance or face penalties starting in 2014.

179 Missouri Prop C passage. Personally, I credit all those cantankerous, townhall senior citizens from last summer who kept the issue front and center, and who encouraged so many people to inform themselves about the healthcare bill, by attending the townhall meetings and delivering a verbal bitch slapping to so many congresspersons. I wish that those elderly townhallers could be sent to New York City to show the citizens of NYC, who don't like the Ground Zero mosque plan, how to get some balls. NYC citizens are an embarrassment to the United States.

So there's the spin? The 10th Amendment is void, so it's symbolic?

Even more than that, Prop C has the unintended consequence of totally obliterating the administration's already laughable claim that the individual mandate is a tax, since a tax from Congress must apply uniformly.Unfortunately, the federal courts are goin to rule against Missouri, because the federal judiciary is half the problem, itself, and then it will be up to Missouri to take a 72% concensus and tell the federal government to stick it up its ass. That will play out in a raft of other states, too. State nullification will be breaking out all over, as the last defense against the feral government.

190 80% of the vote in, now, and still the only place going no (or, for Obamacare) is the City of St. Louis, which is no surprise, as much of the city is on welfare/Medicaid, and a financial mess like most American big cities. Statewide, it's 72% to 27%.

I live in St. Louis County. Not one single other voter today, at my usually busy-on-election-day polling station, other than I, at 11:45 a.m. right before lunch. It was ~100 degrees outside, and that kept most from voting in my area, which is good, as it's a fairly liberal voting 'burb.

I'm proud, and NOT for the first time, of my fellow Missourians.

I'm so glad we've stuck a thumb in the Obamacare "eye", at least temporarily.

As for the other Missouri elections...Blunt is a tool, a typical politician (that is, a corrupt shmuck), but he's a Republican and will vote with his party; Carnahan and her clan are doubly corrupt, triply stupid and would reliably vote for leftist insanity, so though I voted for Pergosan, I think Blunt has a real chance against Carnahan, and he'll be....ok. Carnahan will be a disaster, like the witless Claire McCaskill, a shameless hypocrite and big Obama supporter.

Jackson County, which as was pointed out, is Kansas City, hasn't reported, but it will not make enough difference.

191 Prop C is all about giving Missouri the reason to be able totake Obamacare to the SC like VA is doing. The reason VA won the first round is because they have the same basic law on the books. This just gives MO the basis for the same challenge.
It's now going to be a fight about state's rights, and whether the feds can force someone to buy something. I think that this time the SC will be on the side of the states.

Most all you folks in DC can lick the pudding right off my balls!

If the Feds think they can have the courts toss this out and just ride over the top of us, they are sorely mistaken. I believe that me and damned near 700,000 friends of mine might have something to say about that.

This is Missouri (flyover country if you're from the coasts). We're armed, we take our marksmanship seriously, and we've had just about all the bullshit from on high that we can stand.

I believe this vote here should be sufficient enough signal that we are not to be fucked with.

211 The C vote is symbolic, but sometimes symbols matter.

We're seeing more and more of this, wherein the urban-mindset Harvard Class will endeavor, through whatever means necessary and over our protests, to force-feed us the medicine they deem appropriate for our supposed ills.

We need a ten-year moratorium on putting anyone educated or employed by Harvard anywhere in the executive branch.

Posted by: JEM at August 04, 2010 03:14 AM (o+SC1)

212 "The C vote is symbolic. . . "

Symbolic my ass. They can declare whatever they want to be the law of the land, but that don't mean a thing if we don't listen.

What're they gonna do when we tell them to pound sand?

There ain't enough jails in the country to put away 700,000 people, and there ain't enough Feds with guns to point one at every one of us either.

When the numbers get this large, you don't "force" folks to do anything. You ask, and then wait to see if they go along or don't.

The only thing stopping us right now is politeness and a general lack of desire to break the law.

But if it suddenly becomes illegal to live a productive and comfortable life, that will change, and quickly.

Folks always find a way, and if you cut off all their legal options, well, they'll just go another route.
