1 That made my afternoon

2 Worth it if you're a Star Wars geek with no life, anyways.

(Actually pretty cool.)

3 Storm troopers let citizens photograph then while working? More freedom in the empire than most big cities!

Standing by awaiting the hilarious Emily Henochowicz jokes that are without a doubt related to the Rachel Corrie pancake joke., except Emily isn't flat.

5 I always thought the storm troopers were ghey. I mean those plastic cod pieces are soooo faggy.

Posted by: maddogg at July 29, 2010 04:41 PM (OlN4e)

6 I noted the stormtroopers had no guns, even obvious, fake plasticy guns.

Darth Vader got the whole cadence of the lines wrong (as well as a few words).

And, to keep it all political and topical-y, the Budweiser ad was in Spanish.

Makes me pretty happy I drive to work every day.

I think I would have rather watched the guy making out with the chicken on the subway again.

8 Darth Vader didn't do his jazz hands, so the princess wasn't impressed.

Posted by: lorien1973 at July 29, 2010 04:42 PM (IhQuA)

9 They could not have been more offended, confused, enraged and startled. . . . There was a moment of stunned silence . . . and then an eruption of angry voices from all over the fifteen-hundred-person audience. The kids in their Luke Skywalker pajamas (cobbled up from older brother's castoff karate gi) and the retarded adults spot-welded into their Darth Vader fright-masks howled with fury. But I stood my ground, there on the lecture platform of the World Science Fiction Convention, and I repeated the words that had sent them into animal hysterics:

'Star Wars is adolescent nonsense; Close Encounters is obscurantist drivel; 'Star Trek' can turn your brains to purée of bat guano; and the greatest science fiction series of all time is 'Doctor Who!' And I'll take you all on, one-by-one or in a bunch to back it up!

The Japanese government on Thursday welcomed news that the a U.S. ambassador will for the first time attend the annual commemoration of the U.S. dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945.

The State Department announced that Ambassador John Roos would represent the U.S. at the August 6 event at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, “to express respect for all of the victims of World War II.”

Asked why the gesture was being made at this time, spokesman Philip Crowley said, “At this particular point, we thought it was the right thing to do.”

If I remember Star Wars cannon correctly, the ISTs were only clones until the end of the Clone Wars.  After that, they were comprised of normal humans.

The ISTs might have fared a bit better in combat if they had better armor.  One shot to the leg = death.  And if they can be defeated by Ewoks in hand-to-hand combat...

75 The NY subways always represented the fullness of the world to me. There was so much to learn just by studying the subway. One example was the simple procurement cycle every 10 years or so when they needed new cars. First there was the controversy over the bids, then the controversy over who would manufacture them and where. In NY state? In the USA? The Japanese? But they are subsidized... Then you had the delays. This subject probably kept entire generations of reporters busy each week writing up the latest development for years. You also had the controversy over which line got the new cars, and what happened to the old ones. Then there was the initial impression. enough seats? nice finish? graffiti proof? Finally the whole story would wind down, but the part that I always waited for which told me the cycle was finally over was the first blind death. You see, each time they would forget to install barriers between cars and sooner or later a blind person would jump into the hole thinking it was a door. This is one of the little lessons that taught me the government was scary incompetent and made me a conservative. I mean no lie this happened every time they bought cars.

Ah, Atlanta MARTA.  Brings back fond memories of being seven months pregnant, and standing clinging to a fucking pole for twenty minutes while young male douchebags lounged on the seats.

Oh God, Jane, that is so true. About 3 months ago I am taking my son to the Cardinal game. We hope on the metro here in St. Louis (best public works project evah...its a subway that goes a whole 2 directions - East and West. Need to go somewhere North or South - 2 damn bad). We get on early, grab a seat. Car starts to fill up. About 4 stops from the stadium, the seats are full and 2 elderly ladies get on. Tell the boy, get up, offer the seats to the ladies, who take them, thank us, etc. Get to the game, boy looks at me and ask "why did we give our seats up". Explain that a gentleman always give his seat up for a lady, especially older, or pregnant, etc. He then ask why other guys weren't doing that. Simple explanation "cause I am your dad, not theirs. You want to have class....or be an idiot the rest of your life."

But yes, the lack of chivarly and decorum these day is disgusting.

109 Ah, Atlanta MARTA.  Brings back fond memories of being seven months pregnant, and standing clinging to a fucking pole for twenty minutes while young male douchebags lounged on the seats.

LOL, Jane the last time I road BART I had taken my wife out to CA to visit old friends and show her around my old hangouts. We spent a day walking around SF and took the BART back to Oakland to go to a restaurant I used to like there in Jack London Square.

Well we got off the BART at the station at the corner of Boradway and 14th street which is about 4 or 5 blocks from the square and we walking down the street toward the square when a bus came by which we got on.

The driver wanted to know what two white people were doing walking down Broadway after dark and if we were trying to commit suicide. This was around 1985.  Things had changed a lot since I had left in 1977.

And the restaurant was no longer there and none of my old hangouts.

Ms. Fitzgerald trusted the outsourced tech so much, what could go wrong. She never attempted contacting Dell again until Mr. Shaikh dropped her for another stooge literally at her expense.

They were extremely personal pictures intended only for her boyfriend.

"I couldn't find them on my computer and that made me nervous," said Fitzgerald. So she called Dell support for help with her new Dell computer and delicate problem. She was connected to a Dell support contractor in Mumbai, India named Riyaz Shaikh. "I trusted him. I trusted him because he was a Dell technician and I don't like the cyberworld, you're so vulnerable," said Fitzgerald. She gave the technician permission to access her computer remotely and watched as he found the pictures and downloaded them. Dell has not issued a formal response to Fitzgerald's claims. She says she has contacted an attorney and is considering legal action against Dell.

One thing is odd about this supposed slate of candidates from this new “Tea Party” political party, though. It appears that the only places that the new party is fielding candidates just happens to be in districts where Republicans just might pick up a seat.

But anyway, I stumbled upon an editorial that looked like it was written by our own Ellie Light; in fact the first sentence starts out, "President Barack Obama does not have a magic wand." It then degrades into the usual commie propaganda extolling the virtues of socialism.

263 Heh.  Moreon.org sends the top five myths about social security.  Number one?
Top 5 Social Security Myths

Myth #1: Social Security is going broke.

Reality: There is no Social Security crisis.  By 2023, Social Security will have a $4.6 trillion surplus (yes, trillion with a 'T').  It can pay out all scheduled benefits for the next quarter-century with no changes whatsoever.1 After 2037, it'll still be able to pay out 75% of scheduled benefits—and again, that's without any changes. The program started preparing for the Baby Boomers' retirement decades ago.2  Anyone who insists Social Security is broke probably wants to break it themselves.

Posted by: Bikermailman at July 29, 2010 07:53 PM (rII2N)

264 263 Bikermailman,

hahaha!

ah yes, "we started preparing for it decades ago"....er yeah by having the Democrat ran house back in '68 formally codify SS going into the General fund they did indeed "start preparing"....

prepared IOUs
anyway...."whatever" if the donks want to run on how fiscally solvent social security is have at thee knaves.

Posted by: sven10077 at July 29, 2010 07:56 PM (kq1lG)

265 There are absolutely no redeeming qualities to New York Fucking City or New Fucking Jersey.  (Gov. Christie and Morons excepted.)

The two things that made delivering/picking up there even partially worthwhile were that I got to see The Twin Towers and fucking with the cocksuckers on the docks.

I'd hit the dock and immediately upon hearing my Southern accented voice and rate of speech, they'd think me a retarded rube and give me that fucking bullshit NY/NJ attitude and gaff me off.

That's where I'd give them a double dose of the attitude, complete with exaggerated accent, and usually get moved to the front of the line ahead of the other drivers who didn't have the balls or ability to parrot their bullshit right back at them.

Posted by: FORGER - Racist Czar at July 29, 2010 07:56 PM (CG6Tz)

266 Probably no problem with that, Sven, as phoney refugee claimants go to the front of the 'immigration' line here. Just "lose" your identification papers; and if all of your seventeen appeals to your initial refugee claim are denied, then you can just walk away from the m/hotel the government's putting you up in and avoid deportation and set yourself up for an anchor baby or two.

275 Reality: There is no Social Security crisis.

Pay no attention to the crushing choke hold that liability is placing on the budget; Never mind the deficit has slit the throat of our currency and we are watching it quiver and bleed out on the floor as the eyes growing ever more lifeless look up and wonder "why?"; ignore that and take that blood spilling onto your boots, splash it on your sunglasses, and sure, looking rosey through the crimson tint of the life force of a dying economy, SS can pay its bills.

292 Mr.Scribbler:
"Is this kind of geekage the AoSHQ traffic-building equivalent of Allahpundit's incessant recourse to every Palin mention/article/video he can find?"

Ah ah ah!  I often take a pass on the stuff that reflects well on Palin.

For example, when there was a PPP poll suggesting that Palin's endorsement of Kelly Ayotte was hurting her, I shouted it from the rafters, but when another PPP poll later showed the opposite, that Ayotte was surging, I couldn't be bothered.

293 “to express respect for all of the victims of World War II.”

Actually, there were victims, not of the bomb, but of a maniacal regime with a religious compulsion to domination. Notice imperial Shinto is dead as a doornail.

294 I think the most impressive part of this is that they got an actual female to play the Leia role.

301   49 OMG.... Not again!

I hope that, with enough training that he can resist the overwhelming urge to shout out "AMERICA, FUCK YEA"
