Has Time magazine lost it's mind printing this heresy?

Time is one of the big dogs. A playah with clout. Its in doctors and dentists waiting rooms ferchrisakes. Even though it sucks, Time gets major eyeball exposure.

It sounds like this piece (which Drudge also linked) has them pretty much saying - repeatedly - that Ogabe's rhetoric over the BP spill has proven vastly overblown.

To make matters worse, Time also mentions that Limbaugh has been scoffing at the Ogabe rhetoric (para 1) and now "has a point" (para 2), then the piece goes on to detail, in many paragraphs, how the spill reality isn't living up to its planet killing billing.

Did I wake up this morning and fail to notice that gravity has stopped working? That hydrogen now has 5 protons rather than 1? Seriously, WTF? Where does some punkass fish wrapper rag like Time get off daring to even suggest that the ascended Messiah was wrong? Nerve? these peasants got it in spades I tell you!

13 That hydrogen now has 5 protons rather than 1?

Why, yes it does -- you're very observant. With five protons (and some other hand-wavy shit that you needn't be concerned about), hydrogen is now boron. Couple this with Obi-Won's "mongrel" comment on Da Spew and boron becomes moron. So we're all morons now (there goes the neighborhood).

57 There were two tensions working against each other:

1) Use the oil spill to advance anti-oil, anti-business, pro-government regulation. Cap-n-trade, etc.
2) The government response is inept, and more regulation won't help.

They gambled that if the spill was portrayed as bad (which I think it is), it would drive #1 in the list. It actually drove #2 in the list.

The lesson is that the only reason the machine cared about the spill at all was because it could lead to a consolidation of power. And THAT is why the soviet environmental record was so bad.

65 While this is Time's "blind nut" moment, they still have to shill the "climate change" nonsense.

It's easy to overstate the policy implications of this optimistic news. BP still needs to clean up its mess; federal regulation of deep-water drilling still needs to be strengthened; we still need to use fewer fossil fuels that warm the planet; we still don't need to use more corn ethanol (which is actually dirtier than gasoline). The push to exploit the spill to gain a comprehensive energy and climate bill in Congress has already stalled anyway — even though the planet still needs one.

Here is my cynical side: much ado about nothing. Olbermann, Matthews, et. al. have recently taken shots at Obama. Then, in 2 years time, they can whole heartedly endorse Obama for a second term, all the while, in a very grave voice, "noting that in the past we/I have been critical of this administration...".

Time is trying to salvage Obama's failure to do anything about the spill.

They lead off with Obama's quote that the spill was a catastrophe, true, but they frame it as the conventional wisdom--in other words, Obama was just saying what everyone knew, not playing demagogue.

They then go on to say that the spill hasn't turned out as badly as expected.  It wasn't that Obama was hyping this thing like junkie, its just that, you know, he was repeating the conventional wisdom which somehow turned out to be mistaken for reasons that are of no particular interest or bear on anything else.

Lefties view not mine since he was only arguing for preventative measures  to protect the coastline during the unknown phase of the spill.

That's me! Evil Hummer-driving geologist oilman SOB. I said, way back in April, that 3-6 months after the well got capped, the Gulf coast would be totally back to normal. Experience has always shown that to be the case.
This shit's happened numerous times before, and the spill in 1979 was larger and much more nasty. 4 months later, you literally couldn't find a drop of spill-related oil on the beaches in South Padre, and I was down there, looking.

BP wrote off $32 billion from their bottom line this year.  They were able to deduct $10 of the $20 billion from Barry's slush fund off of their taxes and they reported a $17 billion dollar loss.

BP made out liked raped apes on this deal.  Obama was probably able to use the $20 billion to pad the books on the deficit.  And we, as tax payers paid $10 billion of the $10 billion because of BP's deduction.

Frequent readers of my column know that I have a soft spot for trolls who try to correct the misconceptions, falsehoods and flat out lies that are spread every day on right wing blogs. These blogs often unearth the most unseemly behavior of man: a rebellion against collectivism, a rejection of the progressive march toward utopia, the yearning for individual rights and, dare I say, I say, responsibility. I often find myself cheering for these individuals, hoping against hope that the one or two of these brave souls can withstand the numerical advantage that their opponets have.

I do not feel that way about Denny Crane, a troll at the blog Ace of Spades Headquarter. Mr. Crane's mode of operandi is a simple "x, then y, then z...its socialism". Devoid of logic, Mr. Crane is the type of person who, when confronted with the problem 2 plus 2, would stare at you with a blank expression before soiling his pants.

The more appalling element of Mr. Crane's, eh, work, for a lack of a better word (though it is doubtful that someone demonstrating Mr. Crane's lack of logical comprehension actually works. I suspect his most difficult chore is counting the change he receives while pan handling outside of an gay adult theater) is that it appears to have no passion, no zeal. It is a rote, bland regurgitation of bland, simple and often boring talking points. "Charlie Rangle committed ethics violations while Republicans were in charge!" Mr. Crane will extoll, as if that, somehow, excuses the Congressman's current ethical problems.

Boring, predicatable, illogical and no energy, I simply can not give Mr. Crane any stars for his lackluster performance. My hope is that, with many, many years of work, Mr. Crane may one day be able to piece together a comprehensive statement, perhaps something as simple as "Hi, my name is Denny Crane" and say it without the nervous discharge of a bodily fluid.

125 WTF??? Are people still flogging the cover story it was an oil spill?

Reynolds posted this at the beginning of the month, and it's no coincidence that's when the started winding up the leak story:

Actually, the reason the oil cleanup is so slow is that there’s no oil spill at all. Oil’s just a cover story. It’s really aliens on the seafloor. That’s why the press is being kept away, and that’s why they’re preparing the public by floating stories about the possibility of nuking the site. Those skimmer ships aren’t cleaning things up, they are actually releasing oil to support the cover story. That’s why they’ve found lame excuses to keep volunteers and foreign assistance away. It’s all obvious once you think about it! Wake up, sheeple!

136 I have said it time and time again. People have to eat. The left is losing the cold civil war and continuing to print wildy left wing garbage means the left is well out of a job and they like hot running water just as much as conservatives do. Expect more of this. When the tide turns it is going to be brutal.

Posted by: theworldisnotenough at July 29, 2010 06:27 PM (JpqtI)

137 The reporting on the spill greatly distorted people's expectations of what would happen.  A very large amount of the oil leaking from the well was captured at the source.  A lot more was collected and burned (flared) at the surface and still more was burned within controlled containment on the surface of the gulf.

The problem was that the media kept jacking up people's perception of the spill with estimates that the daily total spill "could be as high as" some ridiculously high number without any evidence to back up the idea that the spill was ACTUALLY that bad.  You COULD get hit by up to 437 meteorites today, but you probably won't.

Now imagine the meteorite total multiplied by 100 days. People would expect that someone out there has been hit by 43700 meteorites.  It is sort of the same thing with the gulf leak.  You had media outlets competing with each other to see who could get the "expert" that would estimate the largest amount of oil for the leak.  So over time the estimates "walked" higher and higher as each outlet trotted out some "expert" that gave a higher possible volume of oil.  But in this case the potential doesn't ruin beaches.  What ruins beaches is what ACTUALLY leaks and escapes containment and escapes surface burning and processing.

Also, since the gulf naturally seeps each year more oil than the Exxon Valdez spilled, there are a lot of oil eating microbes in that water.  Oil has a lot of energy in it.  Something is going to evolve to use that energy if it can.  In a place where you have pretty much constant oil seepage, those critters are going to be all over the place.
