As Falls Bennett, So Falls Mollohan
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Democrat Alan Mollohan became the first member of the U.S. House to be ousted this spring primary season after his opponent mounted a campaign that questioned the 14-term congressman's ethics and support for federal health care reform. Mollohan conceded after unofficial returns showed that with 82 percent of precincts reporting, state Sen. Mike Oliverio was ahead 56 percent to 44 percent. It ends his 28 years in the House. Mollohan was dogged by ethical questions, and the more conservative Oliverio ran an aggressive campaign portraying him as corrupt and out of touch. Conservative media rallied around Oliverio, along with anti-abortion groups angry over Mollohan's support of health care reform. For some reason the word "conservative" creeps into the reportage, including this bizarre claim by Mollohan that he was being unfairly attacked for preventing Republicans from undermining House ethics rules in an attempt to defend Tom Delay. *facepalm* Interesting strategy Alan. Dated. Interesting. Not really the same set of circumstances at the Utah Senate primary, just a different set of rumblings that still point to "pissed off constituents in a different part of the country".

16 As Falls Bennett, So Falls Mollohan - and maybe MathesonIt's been pretty much overlooked due to the coverage of Bennett getting greased but Matheson (D UT2) has a lefty challenger and denied him the opportunity to retain his fiefdom and avoid a primary. The challenger is Claudia Wright (no link, don't want to encourage any of you morons to go there and be tempted by her beauty - no just kidding - think Kagen, in every way imaginable). Unfortunately she's only got about a buck and a half in the campaign coffers compared to Matheson's $1M+ but she got 45% of the convention delegates.

17 Reading his Wiki page. Oliverio was also thanked in a 2006 speech by President George W. Bush for his assistance in securing the confirmation
of Samuel Alito the US Supreme Court. Bush said, "I appreciate Senator Michael Oliverio,
he's here. Mike I think did the country a great service when he worked
on behalf of Judge Sam Alito to get him confirmed by the United States
Senate. I appreciate your -- I want to thank you for that, Mike."

One of Governor Palin's Targets Goes Down
Longtime Democrat Party hack Alan Mohollan from the first Congressional District in West Virginia lost his job tonight in the Democrat Party primary. Josh Kraushaar from Politico tweets that he lost because he went too far to the left when he voted in favor of Obamacare as his opponent attacked him from the right. Governor Palin had listed Mohollan as one of her targets...It appears that Barack Obama has successfully destroyed the Democrat Party in West Virginia, a state that was pretty much a Democrat Party stronghold up until his election...

33 We took a small commuter flight from Belo to Governador Valadares. The
two-engine plane had a capacity of about fifteen (not including the chickens).
At the end of the runway, engines roaring, the plane turned tiffany jewelry
back. What could be wrong? A man raced from the terminal and handed a sack to
the pilot fight through the cockpit window. The pilot had forgotten either the
mail or his lunch! We flew over several open-pit iron mines and made a scheduled
stop in Ipatinga. Finally, in the distance we saw a dramatic monolith with a
sloping summit. This, we learned, tiffany
necklaces was Mount Ibituruna, and at the base of its sheer front
face was Governador Valadares.
With John along, I tiffany
accessories was confident we would get the most out of our gem
experience, but I was in Brazil more for the minerals. I had made arrangements
to visit Carlos Barbosa in Valadares. As many collectors know, Carlos has been a
continuing source of rare Brazilian minerals for the mineral market. He is a man
of small physical stature, brimming with jovial good humor. We visited him at
his home, and he joined us as we made the rounds in Valadares. Our happy band
had now grown to six.
One of the must-sees here tiffany
rings was Jacinto Neto, a retired dentist with quite a mineral
collection. Initially, he brought out rather ordinary specimens of quartz,
feldspar, and the like. As he sensed our interest, he tiffany
bracelets began bringing out his better material. The table in his
dining room became more and more cluttered with remarkable specimens of topaz,
brazilianite, crystallized rose quartz, and tiffany
cufflinks tourmaline of every description. Finally he carefully
unwrapped his pride and joy, a suite of gemmy bicolored tourmaline scepters.
Although Jacinto did not present himself as a dealer, we quickly realized that
everything had a price, and he wasn't shy about giving us his best sales pitch.
Jacinto's prices, unlike those of many of the other dealers we encountered, were
high and virtually nonnegotiable. The tiffany
earrings minerals were, after all, part of his "collection." Not
surprisingly, on subsequent trips we saw many of the same specimens, which

"Mollohan is a crook. He did it legally.
But trading favors for $250 million worth of earmarks over the years to
“nonprofit” — tax-exempt — groups run by his associates is unethical.
The irony being he was the leading Democrat on the House ethics
committee at the time. He had to turn over every penny of his
congressional salary to lawyers who are expert in defending people in
white-collar crime cases.
In the end, no charges were filed.
All of Jay Rockefeller’s money couldn’t put Alan Mollohan’s congressional campaign together again. From West Virginia Watchdog :
Rockefeller “unleashed a flood of money towards Mollohan. Mountaineer
PAC, Rockefeller’s political action committee, donated $66,450 to the
candidate. Rockefeller and his wife Sharon personally donated $9,600 to
the Congressman. Mollohan also received donations from former West
Virginia governors Bob Wise and Gaston Caperton.”
But even with more than twice the money to
spend as Oliverio — even with 28 years in Congress — even with the
backing of the state Democratic Party — Mollohan was thumped, 56%-44%.'

39 I'm in WV-1 and am not celebrating Molly's defeat. Oliverio will give be a stronger candidate in November. Although I'm sure the MFM will call Oliverio a "blue dog," we all know how those assholes voted on healthcare after Obutthead and Pelosi turned up the bribes and threats.
Unfortunately, the three strongest Republican candidates engaged in a messy, mud-slinging campaign that turned off a lot of voters. David McKinley, who won the primary on the R side, took a lot of shots, including some that were self-inflicted.
What could have been a pickup for the Repubs now looms as a retained seat for the Obama/Pelosi Regime. The best hope for McKinley is that the union members that supported Mollohan will stay home in November.
