| The Problem With Heartbreaking Health-Care AnecdotesActually I don't think it's a problem at all really, it's not the facts that surface from the story, it's the telling of the tale that accomplishes its purpose. Still, dude.Natoma Canfield, the cancer-stricken woman who has become a centerpiece of President Obamas push for health care reform, will not lose her home over her medical bills and will probably qualify for financial aid, a top official at the Cleveland medical center treating her told FoxNews.com. Though Canfields sister Connie Anderson said her sibling is afraid shell lose her house and Obama warned at an Ohio rally Monday that the patient is racked with worry about the cost of tests and treatment, she is already being screened for financial help. Lyman Sornberger, executive director of patient financial services at the Cleveland Clinic, said all indications at the outset are that she will be considered for assistance. She may be eligible for state Medicaid and/or she will be eligible for charity (care) of some form or type. In my personal opinion, she will be eligible for something, he said, adding that Canfield should not be worried about losing her home. Cleveland Clinic will not put a lien on her home, he said.Funny how he screws up "need health insurance right now" when he meant "need health insurance reform right now". Stupid TOTUS. I don't think Obama's team is so dumb they don't know this. They just don't care. She's a prop. Think about that context. The current "system" cares a hell of a lot more about Natoma's well-being than Obama does. h/t Carin, or Car in. The space means something but I'm an idiot and I don't remember things so good. Cleveland Clinic will not put a lien on her home, That's all good and well, but what would have happened had she not shown up in Obama's speech? Cleveland Clinic will not put a lien on her home, Great, but what if she was getting treatment somewhere else? Not all cancer treatment facilities are that magnanimous, and even if they were, the money is still coming from somewhere. The only real discussion we are having at this point is: does the cost come from column "A" or column "B". Posted by: Jim in San Diego at March 15, 2010 10:59 PM (F09Uo) 15

Posted by: mrcaniac at March 15, 2010 11:04 PM (Vol3D) 19
Someone on Talk Radio this morning was calling this Obama's "nuclear anecdote", which I thought was kinda funny (but the pathetic health bill ain't funny at all). I'm with Dagny--if this bill is so all-fired important NOW, why doesn't it go into effect (I mean insure anyone) for 4 years? In the meantime, the private sector will help Ms. Canfield get state-of-the-art care at The Cleveland Clinic; one of the reasons she will get that care is because those EVIL insurance companies pay more to the Cleveland Clinic then the govmint programs of Medicare and Medicaid do. This is a bizarre system in some ways, but it is beyond me why anyone thinks increasing government involvement is going to fix anything.

But I was banging hippy chicks, so the smell of the dead dick was masked by their body odor, and they thought it was a very earth friendly solution, and quite the turn-on.
Still, I can't help but think, if I had health care, I could have used my own dick, and scored a better grade of skank, like maybe chicks who could afford razor blades, and deodorant. Passing O-care will mean no one will ever have to suffer like this, and it will create 11-ty bazillion new jobs, and $100 bills will fall from the sky, and my Unicorn will be happy again. I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago.
I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why the Senate Republicans want to keep her, a diabetic, club-footed,cancer-stricken, cleft-lipped, hermaphrodite with lyme's disease, from getting health insurance. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessnes were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Honey, I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..." When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Daddy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. True story. Posted by: CheChe at March 15, 2010 11:38 PM (EW49d) 35

In other words, ObamaCare is just one vote shy of defeat in the House with 70 votes still up for grabs. We must win over one more Democrat before they win over 70: If Democrats lose even one more congressman, the bill dies. Actually, what I really took solace from was the realization that it's actually worse for Pelosi and the Demoncrats that so many House Members have not announced their vote; because Pelosi can't tell which of the 70 need to be bribed. the health care system in america is in much better shape than i thought. i'd already dismissed all these folks categorically since the plight of one individual (however sad) is not a persuasive argument to overhaul national policy. however, the fact that he can't find one legit hard luck case is pretty astounding. i mean, they have 44,000 chances a day; just grab one of those suckers who's dying from lack of health insurance and tell the crowd, "this suckers gonna die today cuz he has no health care. and so will 43,999 others like him!"

Here's the rest of the story. This woman is now in her 50's. She was diagnosed in her 30's. She either quit or was laid off her job and has been unemployed for 12 years. The house she is so worried about losing was her parents. It's a mystery to me how someone can be without gainful employment for 12 years and not have lost the house long before that.
She was unemployed for 12 years but managed to make 5,000$/year in health insurance payments. When it went up to $8,000/year, she dropped it. The human prop is somewhat of a sham. Details at gateway pundit. Posted by: koz at March 16, 2010 12:24 AM (RpKLP) 59

President ________ tried to build a popular mandate for ___________ by going on a nationwide speaking tour. Fareed Zakaria: It was too little, too late. After president ________ had been unconcerned about public opinion, unconcerned about the senates opinion, he then goes on this last desperate attempt to rally the public. But in many ways the public felt he hadnt been talking to them The senate was incensed that he was trying to do an end-run around them, and so the whole thing collapsed in failure. President ____________ is a perfect example of a leader who perhaps was too aloof and too determined he going to lead, (and) forgot he had to take the country with him. Ok, howd you do? Did you guess president Wilson and Americas entry into the league of nations? Great, you got it right! If you guessed president Obama and healthcare reform, they stay tuned and see if history repeats itself. The above was taken verbatim from: Mandate: The President and the People Narrated by veteran CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl, Mandate examines the long and complex relationship between the presidency and public opinion. Leading historians, political scientists, and public figures offer insight into presidents and the presidency from George Washington through FDR. Length: 35 min. 2005. If media-prominent Republicans will emphasize that single crystallized point, the political pressure on wavering Democrats in the House to vote no will increase enormously. Factually, the bill legislates massive new taxes on personal incomes and on medical devices and services: all of which go into effect immediately upon the bill's passage. RAISING TAXES DURING A RECESSION will obviously hurt the economy. (Which is why Democrats have not dared attempt a tax increase despite controlling both chambers of congress.) So as unpopular at this ugly bill already is, it can be made much more so with simple clarion emphasis regarding what is sure to be its immediate destructiveness to the American economy. The American people already hate what the bill stands for (the rotten substance of the bill) as well as they hate the corrupt process that has produced it. Now it needs to be branded into the national psyched that the passage of the bill will straightaway cause personal financial harm to everyone. The ball game will be over if Republicans will simply apply immense pressure to that one crippling point. (They can use the new CBO numbers coming out on the reconciliation/fix-it bill as a fresh predicate to sound the alarm.) There is simply no way Pelosi can secure wavering votes in the House if the Republicans drive home the message that this bill is instant poison to our ailing economy. Imagine multiple variations of the following sound bite issued from Republican after Republican: "If the Health Care Takeover Bill becomes law, our taxes immediately go up, and it will make of the worst recessions we've ever experienced much worse. Everyone knows you don't raise taxes during a recession." Note that this is not the same as arguing that the added deficits this bill is certain to generate will be unsustainable in the long run. That's the "Generational Theft" message which has been lucidly conveyed and has resonated with the American public.- Severe concern has been raised... about the future. But the argument that the bill will also do serious harm to TODAY'S jobs and to TODAY'S fragile economy has yet to be forcefully made. - And this is the checkmate move that needs to be made here at the endgame this week. Honest question here (or maybe 4). So, the options?
Sit and take it and hope that a spineless repub party can do anything to block this (their records sure looks good on this stuff, heh)? Then another nail in this country's coffin. How many more bills, stakes in the heart can this country take? And the bonus question that usually gets rode out of thread on a rail. When does this mean actual, unmitigated war-to save this country if that is even possible at this point? And for that matter, would a war just accelerate the inevitable? Inquiring minds want to know. Good Morning Morons;
Fox is reporting thismorning two versions of the spin on healthcare. Obama and his commie minions are spewing that they have the votes and will vote on it this week. Meanwhile someone else came on from the other side and said they only have 200 out of the216 needed. Who is right? Well as I have been saying for months, when they have the votes they'l vote. How about this story? My wife shifted out insurance from gold plated to catastrophic. We started taking really good care of ourselves, and didn't use the doctor that much. We saved over 200K over the past ten years and are using the money to put our kids through college.
How about that one? We still have insurance when we get really sick too. I am self employed Posted by: Jeff at March 16, 2010 08:23 AM (HScbI) 106
That's all good and well, but what would have happened had she not shown up in Obama's speech? Cleveland Clinic will not put a lien on her home, Great, but what if she was getting treatment somewhere else? Not all cancer treatment facilities are that magnanimous, and even if they were, the money is still coming from somewhere. The only real discussion we are having at this point is: does the cost come from column "A" or column "B". Posted by: Jim in San Diego at March 15, 2010 10:59 PM From their website...Cleveland Clinic is committed to providing world-class care to all patients regardless of ability to pay. Under its policies, Cleveland Clinic provides financial assistance to patients who do not have insurance coverage and who have family income levels up to four times the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Patients who have insurance but still need assistance in payment for their medical services are also eligible for consideration. This program is in addition to any patients entitlement to free hospital care under the Ohio Hospital Care Assurance Program and includes Cleveland Clinic physician services. In the year 2005, the cost of hospital and physician charity care provided by the Cleveland Clinic Health System exceeded $100 million. Posted by: Deanna at March 16, 2010 08:23 AM (JXlgX) 107

I got an idea,
Let's raise the abortion age from zero to 120. If you surpass your Obamacare allottment of say, $3k a year, you get in the abortion line then the government gets the OTHER 50% of your estate to pay for more abortions. DO THE MATH PEOPLE, this WILL work. Posted by: Grover at March 16, 2010 08:50 AM (gifD/) 114
As Jake Tapper so rightly pointed out, this bill would no abosutely NOTHING for this woman's condition. In fact, the rationing of health care that will result will probably mean that the cost of helping this cancer stricken woman will outweigh the benefit of extending her life a year or two. Remember: the blue pill, red pill analogy that Obama used. Moreover, the plan would do absolutely NOTHING for all of the other sob stories that Democrats keep yapping about. What will it do? It will saddle our children with debt they can ill afford. It will lead to rationing of health care most likely for all but those children and families of those passing this monstrosity. I am sickened by this whole thing.

I have been thinking about another way they can pass this trainwreck. After the elections, and the Democrat slaughter that will most likely follow, what will stop san fran nan from bringing the bill to the floor again and allowing those lame duck members from voting for it in essence sticking it to the constituents that just voted them out? And those that got re-elected are safe?
Posted by: TendStl at March 16, 2010 09:13 AM (CT5G+) 119
Actuallly, she would not have had her premiums raised due to previous illnesses.
And I know 2 people who lost everything because of somewhat similar situations. Cancer hit them twice. In one case, the husband died and the wife lost the house. That's after paying insurance premiums for 30 years. Posted by: Bill at March 16, 2010 09:14 AM (MN+T/) 120
Death and taxes are the only sure things in this world.
And the Dems are going to raise the tax rate the death rate with just one bill. Unprecedented. Posted by: Speller at March 16, 2010 09:22 AM (o0R2E) 121
