They wouldn't be able to fake the reaction that is instinctive to people that truly love our Republic, and our soldiers.

37 The majority of the men and women in our armed forces behave with integrity and honor on a day in and day out basis in the face of some really bad things.
It pisses me off that instead of seeing this side of our armed forces regularly, the media chooses to blow out of proportion the number of soldiers who do harm back home, the ones who rob people or kill spouses, etc.

40 It takes some major balls to override the "preserve yourself" instinct

You can go here and read the citations for all the Silver Stars awarded to our troops during the Global War on Terror.

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the
Silver
Star Medal (Posthumously) to Alwyn C. Cashe, Sergeant First
Class, U.S.
Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while
serving
with the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry
Division,
during combat operations in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM,
on 17
October 2005, in Iraq. Sergeant First Class Cashe was drenched
in fuel
after an IED blast ignited the Bradley Fighting Vehicle's fuel
cell,
during a patrol in Samarra, Iraq. After the vehicle came to a
stop and
erupted in flames, he helped the driver out of the hatch and
extinguished his flames. In the back of the Bradley were six
more
soldiers and a translator. As flames engulfed the Bradley
Fighting
Vehicle, without regard for his personal safety, Sergeant First
Class
Cashe rushed to the back of the vehicle, reached into the hot
flames and
started to pull out his Soldiers. The flames spread to his
fuel-soaked
uniform and spread quickly over his body. Despite terrible pain,
Sergeant First Class Cashe placed one injured soldier on the
ground and
returned to the burning vehicle to retrieve other burning
soldiers,
all the while, he was himself still on fire. Sergeant First
Class Cashe
is credited with saving the lives of six soldiers, evacuating
them
despite his own injuries and severe burns. He died of his wounds
on
November 8, 2006.

The military is the the last vestige of the govt that is not totally corrupt and has basic integrity.

The DC govt knows this and is trying to destroy the military. The people are starting to wake up. I hope we all wake up in time.

Our biggest enemy now that threatens our very existence is the Congress and their lack of understanding and contempt for our constitution.

57 For every hero on the stage
On parade or in the grave
With medals pinned and glory flags unfurled

The humble serviceman by scores
Packs the caissons, Guards the doors
Sails sea and sky across the troubled world

Comrades in arms who heard the call
And stepped across that line for all
Knowing well that fate might call their name

They crossed that sword mark in the dust
For freedoms sake and God they trust
And did it not for fortunes gold or fame

So on Remembrance Day give thanks
To veterans past and current ranks
And Praise Eternal God that they were there

Oh quiet heroes, every one
Without your hand, naught would be won
Pray our acclaim, the purest badge you wear

119 95 The problem in the Vietnam Era was that those parades were never held.
As a kidI remember my dad, a Navy vet, being so angry at the politicians, but especially angry at the media (especially Cronkite) in how they screwed over the servicemen. He was livid at how Viet Nam vets were treated upon returning home.
Our local paper covered the funeral yesterday. They mentioned several groups and attendees, but failed to mention that our Congressman flew back from D.C. to attend this young man's service. His office had also cut through some red tape so that the family's non-US citizen relatives living outside the country could attend the funeral. But even in our predominantly red district the local rag is liberal. If they can't say something bad about our Congressman, they will say nothing. And that is bullshit, because constituents need to know that there are politicians who actually care. Fuck the media.

On the contrary. My wife went to high school with him (Skyline High, Oakland, CA) and he was a nice guy then. And he still is: during the filming of one of the Dan Brown movies, he halted filming in a piazza in central Rome because the film crew was between a bride and the church in which she was about to be wed. He personally escorted her across the piazza. In fact, I am sure that it's precisely because he's such a nice guy that he doesn't have the capacity to recognize Imperial Japan as every bit as evil as Nazi Germany. I am also sure his perceptions have been skewed by repeatedly hearing the history of the internment of Japanese-Americans during the Second World War. There was a large degree of racism bound up in that policy and how it was carried out, but that has absolutely no bearing on whether the Pacific War was driven by American racism. It wasn't: it was driven by the attack on Pearl Harbor and the simultaneous attacks on American bases in the Pacific, which drove home the fact that Imperial Japan's ambitions posed an existential threat to the United States.

Posted by: Blazer at March 14, 2010 07:46 PM (t72+4)
Do you know why the Commies in Hollywood were so ineffective in promoting world Revolution? It's because they were working as writers and producers and directors in a system that, for all its deadline-driven pressure, still provided them with all the money, liquor, women and drugs they could dream of. They would insert a couple of lines about big bosses or standing up for the little guy into a script and tell their Soviet contacts that was as much Revolution as they could get past the system, and then they would console themselves at CPUSA meetings that they were true Revolutionaries who were doing the very best they could.

Posted by: stuiec at March 14, 2010 07:53 PM (y6uTB)
