The Vagina Dialogues: Eve Ensler, Joy Behar Agree that "Earthquakes and Tsunamis" Pretty Much Proof that Global Warming Is Real

They can't understand why anyone would reject "science" such as this.

ENSLER: Well, I just think the idea that she doesn't believe in global warming is bizarre.

BEHAR: Every scientist at every note believes in it but Sarah Palin doesn't believe in it.

ENSLER: And I think we just kind of have to walk around the world at this point and look at what is happening to nature and earthquakes and tsunamis.

BEHAR: Right.

ENSLER: And weather changes to just feel it. But I think that idea that she doesn't believe in global warming and she could actually run for vice president, and we have a country where that is possible, it seems insane.

BEHAR: It's unbelievable. It does seem insane and the fact that she has not negated the possibility of running in 2012.

ENSLER: But we have. We have negated the possibility of her winning.

A point I've made to death is that part of the appeal of liberalism for the intellectually insecure is the belief that simply buying into liberalism makes one smarter. Here, we have a couple of yentas who are scientifically illiterate talking about how scientific they are.

(In case you'd forgotten, tsunamis are not a weather-related phenomenon, but are tidal waves caused by underwater earthquakes and such.)

But they're just getting started. The self-congratulatory Orgy of Stupid continues:

ENSLER: But I think part of it is like why are we giving [Sarah Palin] so much attention. You know I was looking at that Tea Party thing last night. How many people were there? 600? Why is the entire media covering an event with 600 people.

BEHAR: I don't know.

ENSLER: V-day has 5,000 events this year. At one event there's 600 people, why are they covering that? What do we choose to cover in the media? Why is anyone giving attention to people who have really have a level of intelligence that hasn't really evolved yet?

BEHAR: I agree with you.

ENSLER: You know, you know, it's problematic. It's problematic.

Sarah Palin's intelligence hasn't "evolved" yet to the point where she comprehends that earthquakes and tsunamis are caused by global warming.

And Behar and Ensler mock her for that. The marriage of perfect ignorance and and arrogance is impressive.

And they're still not done yet:

ENSLER: Well I'm not talk you can about the people who necessarily are following Sarah Palin. Because I think people have the right to be afraid right now. I identify with working people. I feel for people are out of jobs and they don't have money. What` I'm talking about is people who are creating Sarah Palin and Sarah Palin herself putting out information that is manipulated, that's distorted, and illusory. That's the people I have problems with.

BEHAR: Well she plays fast and loose with facts.

ENSLER: Oh, does she ever.

Palin plays "fast and loose with the facts," unlike Ensler and Behar, who are quite certain that rising temperatures may cause tectonic plates to "sweat," and thereby become more "lubricated," and thereby slip past each other and cause earthquakes and tsunamis.

This is not science; this is magic, and a particularly primitive and dunderheaded system of magic at that.

But oh how they congratulate themselves on being up with he "facts" about the New Alchemy.

Since Tsunami's are a result of underwater seismic activity what we are talking about here is Earthquakes, and Earthquakes.

This is true, sort-of. In subduction zones, one plate is pushed underneath another plate. The hotter the plate, the more malleable the rock, and the easier to slide underneath.
However the assumption being made here is that the atmospheric temperature has a non-neglible effect on the temperature of the rock. That does happen on Venus, because Venus's atmosphereis at the melting point of lead (and the Venerian atmospheric pressure is like an Earth ocean pressure at a mile underwater). But this is Earth. By the time we get to Venus temperatures, we'll have a lot more to worry about. (And then there's the minor issue that we're just not going to get to Venus temperatures.)

46 but Sarah Palin doesn't believe in [global warming].

They've obviously never listened to her; I've heard her say (paraphrasing) "in Alaska we see the effects of warming firsthand" more than once. Which is fine; warming is why everywhere I've never lived isn't under a thousand feet of ice like it has been in the past--the important part is she doesn't believe it's a) something that never happened before the 20th century and b) caused by evil corporations and selfish Republicans.

55 In case you'd forgotten, tsunamis are not a weather-related phenomenon,

With all due respect, tsunamis are not tidal waves at all. Tidal waves are, as the name denotes, the result of tides, which in turn are the result of the moon's gravitational pull, and the Earth's rotation. The talking heads at all of the news outlets continue to make this same mistake, and before long it will become part of the language. Tsunami's are caused by undersea earthquakes and are utterly separate from tides.

It would be funny except this is real. These people are really in charge of our country. They really believe they know better than we do. They really think their stupid ideas will work. And they really think that being smarter than everyone else gives them the right to ignore law and the Constitution to ram those stupid ideas down our throats.

Living the feminist dream.

She wouldn't be "stupid" or "uneducated", she would have risen up from the ranks of the working class, not rich or affirmative actiony enough to make it to the Ivys, but earning a journalism degree and living with her union-member husband.

Some of the libs have a problem with her, culturally, but what they really hate is that they don't have someone like her.

What's happening is that they're killing themselves. The Democrats have loved their image as the party of the "little guy". They hate the little guy. 80 You know, I want to thank Eve Ensler and Joy Behar for this exchange. I really do (and thank you, Mr. Spades, for posting it).
One of the local college profs just wrote (another) letter to the editor in a local rag slamming religion (and apparently Christianity is the only thing that qualifies for religion with her)for not creating "good" people (and Republicans/conservatives who are of course all Christian, and of course Sarah Palin as the grand high poobah of teh eviiilll); there's also the same old tired screed about these evviiil religion people (who are only Christian and led by their dark queen Palin) destroying the environment (Avatar!), oppressing poor/indigenous peoples (Avatar again! -- she must have gone to see the movie recently, this is a new development in her usual letter), and being generally racist (especially to gay people -- who are apparently a separate race, who knew?).
Of course her toadies are out in force praising this letter to the skies and defending it against all attacks.
It's hard to come up with any new barbs to throw at her and her toadies -- she's been writing the same damn letter for nearly 10 years now. But this, this post here has given me new inspiration...bless you, you are a darling (and Eve Ensler is of the same ilk, but lazier and stupider, than Cameron, plus more political -- the woman has not a creative, nor interpretive bone in her floppy little body; this is the state of what we call arts and letters now...merde!).

...people who have really have a level of intelligence that hasn't really evolved yet

People who "really have a level?" As opposed to what, monkeynipples? "Sort of have?" "Have-have?" Furthermore, what kind of twisted abomination of usage is required for you to come up with a construction like "People really have a level that hasn't really evolved yet?" Wouldn't it be simpler to say "People who don't have a level that has evolved?"

When I think of these Environuts I also think of William Miller who caused The Great Disappointment He was a Christian who predicted the end of the world would happen in 1844, based on the Book of Daniel chapters 8 and 9. Another preacher arrived at an even more precise date of October 22nd of the same year. October 22nd rolled around and nothing happened. Miller continued to contend the end was near until his death in 1849.

These people from a Religious perspective are merely monotheists who have replaced the One God with Earth and Capitalism is Satan.

163 I just found this on FR:
Gibbs mimics Andrea Mitchell; Sarahcuda eats their boss's lunch

Approximately 3 seconds after Sarah Palin's keynote speech to the Tea
Party convention in Nashville (no wait -- less than 2 seconds),
Democrat consultant Bob Shrum attacked Palin as a "merchant of hate"
for opposing Obama's insane agenda. Luckily for him, Shrum's
dispassionate, policy-based analysis was only carried by MSNBC, so
nobody saw or heard him make a fool of himself.
Liberals at
MSNBC apparently still think Shrum has lots of credence, having been
the principle architect of John Kerry's 31-state defeat to 'moron'
George W. Bush.
Going into a paroxysm of intestinal colic,
Andrea Mitchell attacked Palin for writing notes on her hand during the
speech, alleging this proves Palin's not as smart as Obama, who gets by
with just a pair of screens that tell him what to say to a class of
sixth graders.
Mitchell whined that it's not fair for Palin to
make an issue of the TelePrompted Obama's reliance on machines to
instruct him on what to say and how to use a men's room urinal, since
she relied on hand notes this one time. If rumor has it correctly, the
hag's 'brilliant' husband Alan Greenspan relies on hand notes himself.
Every night, "Check Andrea Mitchell for rigor mortis."
Media
liberals spent the whole weekend attacking Palin and writing her off as
irrelevant and impotent, then followed up on Monday and Tuesday by
running countless broadcast and cable segments denouncing Palin and
writing her off as irrelevant and impotent.
In another
breathless display of liberal tolerance, Palin was attacked by sports
columnist Mike Lupica as impotent and of having "delusions of grandeur
if she thinks she can be President." Being a sports columnist, Lupica
has delusions of being male.
Mark Halperin of TIME dismissed
Palin as irrelevant and of having "far less support in the country at
large than the gullible Old Media seems to understand or suggest." He
then rushed to appear on the Sunday edition of ABC's World News,
maintaining that Palin is irrelevant and impotent! He said, "let's say
she's got tens of millions of followers as does the Tea Party movement,
that does not make a national winning coalition."
When none of
this deeply thoughtful, anti-Palin media agit-poop seemed to work,
libbies issued dire warnings to Republicans that irrelevant and
impotent Palin -- with her tens of millions of 'followers' -- could
potentially undermine the entire GOP! We liberals care deeply about the health of the GOP! Trust us!

John Brennan yesterday took some time off from botching up
counterterrorism to write a crybaby op-ed complaining about criticism
that he's botching up counterterrorism. The whiny screed pops up just
days after Palin's speech criticizing the decision to Mirandize
Abdulmutallab's "accused" underwear, so I'm sure it had nothing to do
with Palin's speech.
From Andrea Mitchell, whose face looks
strikingly like the lunar landscape, to Andrew Sullivan, who dwells on
the moon, to the Four Corpsemen of the Hypocrilypse -- Chris Matthews,
Keith Olbermann, Joe Scarborough, David Shuster -- the poor scared
little things! His lunatic Trig Truther theory discredited, Sullivan

Sullivan has delusions of growing a set.

so wee-wee'd up over Palin's speech, Obama can't stay on message even
with the TelePrompTer, yapping about his failed healthcare fetish on
Sunday, then Monday it's about jobs, then it's back to crappy
healthcare "reform" in the afternoon. One Palin speech and hapless
Obama's stricken with bladder control problems for a week. Then
yesterday it was Obama's Grand Strategy for dealing with Palin,
consisting of sending a dorky press secretary to prove his manhood by
attacking the girl with his grocery list scrawled on his hand, likely
with indelible ink. Oh dear. I'm sure the Moose-hunting, pistol-packin'

Yeah, there were earthquakes and frightful snopacalypses: our magic was not powerful enough. Then we invented the Income Tax. We can perfect Human Nature through the Income Tax!
Paradise is at hand.

The sad thing is that some (including the erstwhile prof and her

degree in one of the hard sciences, but they are Ph.D.'s.

I'm partially agreeing with you, but "Ph.D." does not speak to knowledge in all fields. And I think readers should note that a Ph.D. in, say, English literature (or a few dozen other fields one could name) has no more legitimate claim to expertise on scientific questions than does, say, a lifetime spent repairing residential heating units.

No, they're not a dying breed. There are far too many Ph.D.'s who think that the presence of those 3 letters next to their name entitles them to claim expertise in all areas, including areas in which they know jack shit. As I said before, I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry. I have some knowledge in fields outside of chemistry; I can discuss literature, history, and several other fields pretty competently in a cocktail party setting. But that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with my Ph.D. I learned nothing about those fields while getting my Chemistry Ph.D. And the exact same is true of a history Ph.D., or a literature Ph.D. or a you-name-it Ph.D. who wants to assume an authoritative air outside his field of training. Sure it's possible to know things outside your Ph.D. But your Ph.D. did not give those things to you. Your Ph.D. means precisely a giant pile of dump when it comes to those areas. So in summary, no, Ph.D.'s in sociology are not entitled to any deference whatsoever when it comes to, say, principles of chemical catalysis, or mechanisms for blocking cellular necrosis, or AGW theory. And anyone with a Ph.D. in an unrelated field who claims any remote degree of deference in these areas is completely. full. of. shit.

198 Behar is a close second behind Sully with the PDS. It really is kind of stunning to watch someone who doesn't realize how transparent they are. She hates Palin's LIFE, the fact that she is a happy content human being.
As for Ensler, remember this is the cretin, whose groundbreaking work had to be heavily edited when it went on tour (i.e. out of New York) because one of the "Monologues" was about a 12-13 year old girl being "seduced" by her female teacher. Needless to say, because there were two vaginas involved it was presented as being awesome, you know as opposed to being rape/sexual abuse.

But remember, SARAH PALIN IS STUPID.

199 198 -- I think we are arguing from opposite ends of the same side here: the general gist of what I'm saying is that some people like to use their higher education credentials as a form of arguement for why they are right (in particular in areas that are not their specialty), and that unfortunately they get away with it far too often. However, the problem also lies in the sad fact that many of these people are in actuality quite ignorant, because even if it were not their area of expertise they at least should be able to converse in a somewhat intelligent and authoritative matter in at least some areas outside of their specialites because they took the time to educate themselves at least a little about those things -- many cannot, and many are not even all that knowledgeable within their own fields thanks to their self-imposed blinker vision.
There is quite a big difference between being capable of speaking with some degree of knowledge about several things (and being humble about one's knowledge, even within one's area of specialty) and being an arrogant, pedantic, overly "educated" twit who has to fall back on the arguement: "I've got a degree, so I'm smarter than you about everything!"...which is one of the problems that I see more and more of.
As an example I would say that if you and I were speaking in pleasant conversation about, say, "Moby Dick", and you brought up some fascinating idea that you had come up with which related to your area of expertise, it would be incredibly stupid of me, as a humanities prof, to merely write off what you said simply because American Lit. was not your specialty, just as it would be remiss of me to find it fascinating but not have the intellectual fortitude to do at least a little study of the area of chemistry you brought into the conversation and thus increase my own knowledge. And it would be the height of professional hypocrisy and arrogance for either of us to pronounce ourselves unquestionably right when it came to the running of federal government (about which I have some but not deep knowledge of, but many opinions)and its implications for everyone, simply due to holding a damned degree (although I don't have a Ph.D., so maybe I'm let off the hook here lol!).

Does that make sense?

Posted by: unknown jane at February 10, 2010 03:08 PM (5/yRG)

200 How the hell does someone like Joy Behar get her own TV show like this? I have to admit that the first mention of her name as being on the 'The View' I was like, "Who?" Then, I find out that she is or was a "comedian" at some point? I guess there is some niche comedy market for over the hill, red headed, New York, Jews that have mindless and baffingly stupid and unfunny things to say. My only guess is she has some pictures of an upper level producer somewhere stuffing gerbils in his bum hole or something.

201 Palin never said that she doesn't believe in global warming. I believe she said that theyhave seenthe effects of climate change in Alaska. Climate change may bepart of anatural weather cycle. She doesn't believe that science has proven that weather changes are man made in their entirety, or if partially, what percentage that is.
She, like many of us, think that the global warming scare is a fraud in that it promotes "green products" from companies that are owned in part by the very same people shouting about global warming. Al Gore, for instance, is said to have already made a billion dollars from this scam. Nancy Pelosi has her elbows in some green scheme or another (windmills perhaps). 80% of windmills/wind turbinescome from China. And they freeze up and don't operate in Minnesota. 206 In many academic regimes knowledge of anything concrete is not required. I have met PHDs who do not know why water boils at a lower temp at high altitudes. That would not matter if the particular PHD didn't insist on demanding that everyone defer to his every pronouncement, which is, I believe, what Jane is saying.

Unfortunately, since lefties have taken over too much of the education system, someone can be a total peabrain and rise to a PHD merely by regurgitating "facts" from profs. Meanwhile the kid that thinks for herself is called an idiot and is ostracized until she is silenced.

The AC repair guy mentioned above has a far better grounding in reality than does, say, the Professor of Black Studies. I, unfortunately, was sent to a class in the black studies dept as part of my department's continuing education program. Luckily I got to wear my off duty gun. I studied that whole semester and ended up as white as when I started. The black kids in the class stayed the same color, too, they just got angrier, which was odd. There they were, in a University, angry because they were being kept down by "the man". Who knew that one could learn he was kept down by going to a taxpayer funded university?

At any rate, the kids who got good grades in many of those classes were the ones who simply spat out what the prof said. While the kids who, rightly or wrongly disagreed, kept their mouths shut and put nothing of their own beliefs on paper.

I went to a lot of classes, it was required. I got my education from the public library and from twenty+ years in the front seat of a county cruiser.

I think we are arguing from opposite ends of the same side here:

To some extent this is true, which is why I partially agreed with you at the outset, but it seems to me there is a difference in what we are saying as well. You seem to be saying that a Ph.D. in an unrelated field should not be assumed to be more knowledgeable than a non-Ph.D. on scientific matters, but should be expected to be more knowledgeable than a non-Ph.D. on scientific matters. I don't think you can meaningfully separate those two things (if you expect something to be true, to some extent you will assume it to be true), and one should neither assume nor expect that an English-Lit Ph.D. is remotely conversant in basic science. He may be (although very often won't), but there is no reason why he should be, and no reason why it is more likely he would be, compared to anybody else.

As an example I would say that if you and I were speaking in pleasant
conversation about, say, "Moby Dick", and you brought up some
fascinating idea that you had come up with which related to your area
of expertise, it would be incredibly stupid of me, as a humanities
prof, to merely write off what you said simply because American Lit.
was not your specialty

Of course. But that should be your reaction whether I hold a degree in chemistry, or am a high school drop-out.

212 Well, Algore thinksif we drill down a few thousand yards the earth tempertaureis thousands and thousands of degrees, or in other words, the temperature of the sun, which undoubtedly would account for those earthquakes and tsnamis ;-)Truly, as others have commented. Sarah Palin believes in global warming, and global cooling, and all manner of naturalclimate/weather patterns that have afflicted and blessed the "globe" for millenia. She doesn't think man has much to do with it, but was one of the first governors in the U.S. to create a sub-cabinet in AK to study climate change and make recommendations for ADAPTING to these REAL changes. So, Joy ... how does someone who "hasn't evolved" and "doesn't believe in global warming" become one of the only governors in America to create a special cabinet to study its "effects"???????

One Of the reasons is mac dvd to apple tv that their parents haven't much money to mac dvd to avi afford their study. They have to stay at mac dvd to flv home to earn money to support their families. What a mac dvd to gphone pity! And another reason is that many mac dvd to iphone parents think it is useless for girls to mac dvd to mp3 study and they would not like them to go to mac dvd to mp4 school. On the other hand, some mac dvd to mpeg children are not interested in mac dvd to psp their lessons and would not like to go to school.I think all the children, including girls, should have the mp3 cutter right to receive education. We have the duty to lend them a hand When they are in trouble. All the people should pay attention to the mp3 splittereducation of children who will play a very important part in the future of our country.
