| Captain America Now Thwarting Evil, Racist TeabaggersPalin Steele landed his/her dream job of writing for Captain America. While investigating this subversive group, Captain America and his partner The Falcon — a black super hero — have decided to try and infiltrate the secretive organization. It's worse than that. Under Bush, Captain America turned anti-government (and sorta anti-American too, if you ask me) and was much-concerned with thwarting evil-doers who... um, were like trying to kill terrorists and stuff. But now, under Obama, it's safe to uncritically trust the government again, I guess. Via HotAir. Comments1
It's like Hollywood with pitchers.

Uh, is this a joke? I honestly can't tell.

The black character asks the out of costume Captain, “What the hell is this?” And follows that with, “looks like some kind of anti-tax protest.” The Falcon character then snidely tells his partner the Captain, “So I guess this whole ‘hate the government’ vibe around here isn’t limited to the Watchdogs.” It is sad when even comic books have been converted to snivling PC liberal propaganda. Another old American tradition turned to shit. Posted by: Vic at February 09, 2010 03:28 PM (QrA9E) 4
Big Hollywood sez the movie should be good -- not all stuck on stupid like the comics. From what I've heard so far it'll have more of an Iron Man-type vibe. No linky 'cause I'm at work and lazy. Posted by: Joanna at February 09, 2010 03:31 PM (7+WuG) 5
Which limey asshole is writing Captain America this time? IIRC, I think it was that 'tard (forgive me) Millar who drew a parallel between Dresden and Iraq.

Oh come on, comics writers are almost hard Lefties to a fault. Look at Marvel's "Civil War" or DC's "Amazon's Attack" for more lengthy examples.
One of the seminal works in modern comics, The Dark Knight Returns is full of potshots at Reagan. It's a wonder that Capt. America, the character, still exists. I don't know how they manage to write Iron Man. Posted by: Techie at February 09, 2010 03:31 PM (zbH+i) 7
or maybe it was Dresden and 9-11...either way, it was sickening.

The racist meme is something the Left had to invent to disparage the same kind of protesting of the government that they'd been lionizing for the last eight years.

Captain America in the mainstream Marvel Universe is pretty much used as a way for the writers to forward their political ideas (being progressive pussies) However, the Ultimate Universe version of Captain America is a patriotic bad-ass: Posted by: D-Rock at February 09, 2010 03:35 PM (mkKeP) 16

Captain America says: That set of those who like fiscal responsibility and a limited role for the State is a subset of the set of white people. This is logically equivalent to the statement: that all nonwhite people prefer for the government to remain insolvent and intrusive, as long as nonwhites get theirs. It's not the first time I've seen that assertion, but it's usually a different sort of publication which makes it. Posted by: Zimriel at February 09, 2010 03:36 PM (9Sbz+) 18
Longtime Marvel reader here, and I've been reading Brubaker's run from the start. It's actually been very, very good. (I mean, he brought back Bucky, for crying out loud! And made it work!)
But after reading this nonsense a couple of weeks ago, I swore it off. Done. I found it very insulting. The "tea bag" bit was the real tipoff. And I went to a comic-book message board that Brubaker has been known to frequent, posted that I was dropping the book, and spelled out exactly why. I can get insulted for my political beliefs for free. No need to spend $3.99 for the privilege. Posted by: tsj017 at February 09, 2010 03:39 PM (4YUWF) 19

Anyone who thinks the ideal man wears his underwear outside his pants doesn't get to tell me who to vote for.
This kinda reminds me of USSR propaganda. So did a lot of Obama leaflets and posters. Nothing nothing nothing about the actual values and consequences of policies. It's just a hyper idealized hero (such as Obama in that Spiderman comic, or the "I am your hope and change", and a hyper demonized enemy, this "tea bag!!!!" racist conspiracy crap. The people drawing this up know this is their best argument. They can't actually explain why the TEA movement is wrong to criticize unsustainable spending and taxing, so they just make them into monsters. They can't actually explain why Obama would be particularly good at anything, so they just tell us he's beautiful and perfect. Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan and Abe Lincoln don't need that kind of thing. Stalin did. Because while you can convince someone to do the right thing with an argument, you need to avoid arguments to convince them of the wrong thing. Marvel is simply part of the democrat machine. I wouldn't be surprised if they get some money from the NEA or stimulus to draw some pamphlets, but money changing hands is hardly the real measure. The writers just cannot believe that their readers might not be jackasses like them. Eventually, people are going to stop buying the comics. It only makes sense in a liberal's mind that Capt. I gave up comics years ago, partly for this general reason*. Captain America has always been written as a leftie, written by lefties. It's the irony of ironies...Conservatives like the idea of Captain America because he's a symbol of something we love, but don't actually read him, because liberal writers have never done anything but use him as a mouthpiece to declare how America hasn't lived up to the values he stands for...which he, coincidentally is a perfect example of.

Oh, jeez. If I drank, this would definitely be a cue to go drown myself in sweet oblivion. Instead, I think I'll bury myself in a pile of classic G.I. Joe comics and pretend that Captain America, Liberal Douche, never happened.
We just can't have nice things, can we? First DC kills Batman, then Marvel gets on its knees and kisses ass as part of a blatant political agenda. I personally don't think comics as an art form are dead, but I do think that if people keep using the characters as mouthpieces instead of just telling stories, they're not gonna last much longer. The writers for Captain America develop a crisis of confidence in the American Government every time a Republican President is in office. During Watergate, Steve Rogers lost faith in his ideals and changed his identity to "The Nomad." When Reagan was in office, the government Commission on Superhuman Affairs (under direction of Cap's Nazi arch-enemy the Red Skull, natch) stripped Rogers of his costume and shield and gave it to one of his rivals. Under Bush, the government decided to forcible register and enlist all superhumans. Rogers refused, becoming an outlaw. He eventually turned himself in to the authorities and was apparently assassinated on the courthouse steps. The new Captain America is Bucky Barnes, his former sidekick who was though to have died fighting the Nazis more than 60 years ago. It was revealed that after his apparent death he was captured by the Soviet Union, brainwashed and turned into an agent of the communists. He resurfaced in 2005 as The Winter Soldier. @31: "I can't wait to see the exciting conclusion when Captain America beats down the father of a family who refuses to purchase state mandated health insurance - Go Cap'!" Hopefully, at that point, Punisher would seize Cap, make him watch while he killed everyone that Cap has ever even harbored the most remotely positive thoughts about, and then put Cap out of our misery. John Wayne was a racist? Hmm. Someone should tell his wife Pilar, the Peruvian. Indeed, and prior to Pilar, John Wayne clearly had a thing for Latinas. The Duke was married three times, all three wives were Latinas. Sammy Davis Jr said although he didn't agree with a lot of Wayne's politics, the man didn't have a racist bone in his body. However, I'll have to check with race policeman Charles Johnson on this Posted by: kbdabear at February 09, 2010 07:55 PM (sYxEE) 112

Comicbooks have always been kinda teh ghey anyway right? So is this shit any real surprise? We're are not talking WW2-era comix here nohow, we're talking post Watergate and 9/11, when BushHitler himself spent 9/10 laying det chord all up in WTC 7 then flew off to NOLA to plant a few bombs in the levees around the Lower 9th Ward. This "plotline.commentary" kind of makes me want to not go see the upcoming Captain America movie (Wink Wink Nudge Nudge). I bet some people in the movie biz or at Disney or even Marvel might like to hear that from anyone feeling the same way.

I read comics as a kid and enjoyed the simple idea of good guys whipping ass on bad guys. When I was 12-14 I started seeing the lines of good and bad being blurred to grey. Spiderman was a insecure nerd who couldn't fit in, filled with teen angst. Submariner was pissed because his undersea kingdom had been destroyed and goes on a wave of destruction but sometimes helps out. Generally after helping he would tell the world to fuck off. I pretty much gave comics up but would occasionally glance at one only to find a world of dominatrix types or homo erotic art. Our military was always the bane of that cuddly green Hulk. The last Superman was the gheyest portrayal I ever saw. The illigitimate child thing was also an absurd plot line for a hero. That the uber no talent left writes crap comics that hate merica now is really no surprise. Posted by: Ohio Dan at February 09, 2010 10:08 PM (rurh0) 117
Ohio Dan, indeed, the latest Superman was a total load of crap.
It might as well just enter public domain so someone can try to use the format for a good message. Superman abandons his kid and his girl and doesn't really give a shit about anything. It was dull. And the heroine could basically care less about anything. I guess it's not so bad, since Superman is an empty, unpersuasive shell, but the idea that some kids watched that and saw the hero abandon his kid is just sad. These comic book writers are losers who hate real heros. That's why they have to make a hero in tights. A comic about a realistic soldier loving his country and his kids would be entertaining, but tht's the kind of heroism that threatens comic writers. They don't want to face the reality that you don't need powers or tights to be a hero. You just need to pick up a rifle and follow your drill sergeant. They don't want to do their duty, so they invent this idea of heroes that isn't compatible with real values. To save the day, you have to risk your life and kill assholes. to get the girl, you have to be a good man and willing to raise your kids. Oh, and work a job. John Wayne is the opposite of a comic book hero. I don't even like the guy's work, but recognize why they would want to ruin his reputation with lies. Posted by: Ostral B Heretic at February 10, 2010 02:00 AM (Tr9MG) 119
So utterly lame. Whoever wrote this crap is pathetic. Hell, any comic book writer that uses an iconic character as a mouthpiece for their politics is pathetic. They don't have the stones to mouth off on their own, so they feel they can vindicate themselves by having an iconic character say what they feel. Why stop with this incident or the ass-kissing of Obama via Spider-Man? Anyone else remember Spider-Man being aghast at a supervillain prison that was a stand-in for Gitmo during the "Civil War" storyline? It's really not worth getting upset over this or any other incident. Think about it. Generations from now, people are likely to know about Spider-Man, Captain America, Batman, Superman and so forth. Is anyone gonna remember the hack that wrote issue #602, especially in this era of rotating creative teams? People remember folks like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for a reason. They also forget folks like Cap's latest hack for another reason. Posted by: SpideyTerry at February 10, 2010 02:17 AM (sFWht) 120
A few years ago, Marvel did an "origin of Captain America" in which it was revealed that the "super-soldier serum" was produced in the course of horrible experiments on black prisoners. Of course.

Yeah, I picked this shit up a couple of weeks ago and pretty much took a shit. Look, I get that "artistic" types are all gonna be leftist assholes, and I suppose most of them have the good sense to leave their garbage out of their craft (or the ones that do aren't so hamfisted about it), but occasionally a guy like Ed Brubaker, the writer of Captain America and very talented, gets a little too full of himself and decides to unload.
For the record, Brubaker is from Maryland and lives in Seattle. And very, very, very white. I sent him a missive (which he won't have read, but hell it was satisfying anyway) basically saying that he could at least 1. do his homework before slandering millions of his fellow Americans and b. have the balls to not hide behind a fictitious black character* when calling us all racists (only to have his ass kicked later, which makes me wonder where that guy's headspace is in). Yeah, like was said before, no reason to pay $4 bucks a pop just to be called an asshole. *[Olberman]Fictitious people don't have free speech! DRED SCOTT! RAAAAACISM!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Straczynski rescued Thor for a while,"
But man, those early issues were painful. Oh, look, here's the Katrina issue which said...well, nothing really. And the one on the Darfur genocide was appalling. You'll recall,, the genocide in Darfur is arab muslims raping and killing black muslims. JMS instead depicted it as black christians killing black muslims. The political correctness was absolutely stunning. It really pissed me off cause it was a flagrant lie. Thankfully, he moved away from the social commentary and moved it squarely into Norse gods beating the ever loving shit out of each other territory. Too bad he got pissed at Marvel and left right in the middle of an arc. The current guy is...well, okay I guess. But JMS was finally starting to hit his stride. Maybe saw issues three times a year at best, but they were really getting good. Posted by: Robert at February 10, 2010 05:08 AM (4ixH5) 123

Wow, I find that odd. He's kinda' leftist. Like, retardedly so. I once saw him go off on a rant post-9/11 about how outrageous it was that lighters weren't banned from commercial flights, and it was all because Bush was in the pocket of Big Tobacco. But really, the guy does have it in him. Watching Babylon 5 (my favorite show EVAR) from beginning to end, I'd have never guess the guy was a raving leftist lunatic. Until I saw it with my own eyes.
