New Poll: Harry Reid Getting Killed In Reelection Bid By Just About Everyone Including Other Democrats

Sorry to contribute to the 'all polls, all the time' feeling but I love me some schadenfreude.

Harry Reid said he expected to be showered with love and thanks (or some such nonsense) by his constituents for passing health care.

Um, not so much according to a new PPP poll.

Democratic hopes of keeping Harry Reid's Senate seat would probably be better with a different nominee. But the state has trended in a Republican direction since Barack Obama's strong victory there in 2008 and the party will have a tough time there this year Reid or no Reid.

On Reid our numbers find the same picture all other recent surveys in the state have: he suffers from 58% disapproval and trails Sue Lowden by a 51-41 margin and Danny Tarkanian by a 50-42 spread. It's worth noting that despite Reid's unpopularity only 42% of voters in the state think he should step down from his leadership position while 49% think he should remain.

I don't understand this. Harry is pasty white and speaks with no discernible dialect whatsoever. Why isn't this a cake walk? Love and gratitude ain't what it used to be.

The not at all ugly Sue Lowden appears to be the unofficial AoSHQ candidate, so be sure to check out her website and keep her in mind once we get Brown over the finish line.

Late Addition:

I guess he figures he might as well go out in a blaze of, um, glory.

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday said that there is room on the busy Senate calendar to bring up a sweeping energy and climate change bill this spring.

...“We have a lot on our plate. We have to finish reforming health insurance and Wall Street, and also must help bring Americans out of unemployment. But we are not so busy that we can’t find the time to address comprehensive energy and climate legislation,” Reid said, according to his prepared remarks.

He probably figures if he's going down he's taking as many of the other miserable SOBs with him as he can.

Things are getting dirty in Mass.

From Scott Brown's website:

September 14, 2009
His Excellency Governor Deval Patrick

State House Room 360

Boston, MA 02133

Dear Governor Patrick:
It has come to my attention that an
employee of the Executive Office of Public Safety called the Adjutant
General’s Office at the Massachusetts National Guard to inquire whether
my Guard service made me ineligible to run as a candidate for the U.S.
Senate.
I am bringing this to your attention because it represents highly
inappropriate partisan political conduct on the part of your
administration. As you are the civilian commander of the National
Guard, I know you agree with me on the importance of keeping politics
from interfering with the Guard's mission of providing trained and
disciplined forces essential to the safety and security of our state
and nation.

I have served honorably in the Massachusetts National Guard for 29
years, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Office of the
Judge Advocate General (JAG). There is nothing in the law that
prohibits me as a citizen-soldier from holding elective office, either
state or federal.

Based on our phone conversation this morning, I know you appreciate the seriousness of

this situation and that you share my disappointment if someone in one
of your Cabinet agencies has behaved this way. I hope you find it
serious enough to commence an investigation. At the very least, you
should make it clear to your appointees that it is against the law for
them to use their state office to engage in politics, particularly as it
regards our military.

Sincerely,

State Senator Scott Brown

No way. Reid doesn't give a shit about the democrat party as an institution, its just a vehicle for enriching Harry Reid. He runs this one right into the ground. What we'll see is a sharp reduction in his campaign spending as he tries to maximize the size of his war chest.

I'm pretty sure they get to KEEP their war chests when they retire or are defeated. It worked that way some years ago when I last checked those rules.

He'll drop out when spending for running the campaign exceeds his campaign contribution inflow and starts to damage the amount he can steal when its all over.

100 Ghost, I'm guessing that Reid will just hang back and let a more popular senior Democrat deliver the talking points to the press. He'll be Majority Leader Emeritus, in effect.

Hopefully for just twelve more months. Looks like from Drew's update that he's going to double down on teh stoopid.

The widow of late Senator Edward M. Kennedy makes an impassioned
plea for Martha Coakley in an advertisement released today, urging
voters to allow the Democrat to complete her husband's unfinished work.

In the 30-second spot titled "With
Her," Vicki Kennedy looks straight at the camera and echoes a line
Republican Scott Brown used in a debate when he referred to the post
held for 47 years by Kennedy as "the people's seat."

"Tuesday's election is to fill the term my husband didn't have a
chance to complete," Vicki Kennedy says. "But it's not the Kennedy
seat. It's the peoples' seat."

But Vicki Kennedy adds her own twist, asking voters to remember,
"the mother trying to make ends meet. The father trying to find a job."

"My husband fought for them. And so does Martha Coakley,” Vicki
Kennedy says. "Cracking down on Wall Street and insurance company
abuses. Fighting for working families.

"That’s what Martha Coakley stands for, and I’m proud to stand with her."

Yeah, that'll help, Vicki.

102 Previous polling shows the Kennedy family endorsement costing Coakley more votes than it gained. Smooth move.

104 is anyone else worried about schadenfreude poison? What are the toxic levels here? Is binge dipping safe?
Fraulein Radish, excessive dipping could cause your boobs to become allergic to whatever you're dipping them in. Probably best to rotate dipping sauces on a regular basis.

He was there longer than my parents have been married, he had more than enough time to finish his own damn work.

now."
Let's see - your evangelistic efforts amounted to what, about 5 posts on one thread?

Yeah, you're some missionary there, skippy. Giving your all for the gospel! Why, your efforts put the apostle Paul to shame! To think he was almost killed a few times in his efforts to get the good news out. You've had to endure a couple comments full of ridicule on an anonymous post on a web site.

107 Harry Reid == legislative suicide bomber.

108
“We have a lot on our plate. We have to finish reforming raping health
insurance and Wall Street, and also must help bring Americans out of unemployment,” Reid said,
according to his prepared remarks.

FIFY, Harry.

109 "We pray he'll be judged more by his record than his rhetoric." says the black liberal activist. Except with Reid, that doesn't help, as his record is even worse than the "negro dialect" rhetoric unless your one of our leftie friends with their head stuck several yards up their ass.
Oh, and what are the odds of them saying anything similar about any conservative? Yeah, I thought so.

Posted by: Hatchet Five at January 15, 2010 12:40 PM (n6iqK)

110 So consistently low poll numbers just mean that like CT's Chris Dodd, Reid will drop out and not seek re-election, potentially turning what might otherwise have been a Republican rout into a real contest (or worse).
Uh, one of the thing you have to consider is the Neveda democratic bench. I'm not saying its a little shallow, but right now, do you know who the preseumtpive democratic nominee is..........
Rory Reid, son of Harry.

Wow, that is an interesting nickname. I like to get more background on this for a book I'm writing about Harry. Did his parents give him that nickname? If so, why?

114 Even if Dingy Harry gets "primaried", the Dem candidate would still have to run against the Obama agenda to have a HOPE® of being elected. I love the corner they've painted themselves into.

115 My sis (LV denizen) says that they'll have to drag Harry out of his office, kicking, screaming, and clinging to the door jambs. He won't step down from his position voluntarily. She said even his son is distancing himself from Harry.

I recommend buffalo sauce followed by blue cheese dressing, chunky. The soothing warmth from the buffalo sauce contrasted by the luxurious cool creamy dressing is incomparable.

Check out the typical response to good cheerleader pics, and judge for yourself. If the moronettes want to lust after Brown, I got no complaints.

124 Can some moron drop me some knowledge on when this would EVER happen?
It doesn't. You simply can't do political stuff when on duty. There are several members of Congress who serve as reservists; Mark Kirk, running for Ozero's old Senate seat, is one such.

Posted by: Hatchet Five at January 15, 2010 12:51 PM (n6iqK)

125 Not "dirty" per se since it was just a question asked, not an accusation made. It
does smack of extreme desperation to be grasping at such tenuous straws
though since Brown could simply resign his NG commission.

Depends on the intent. Personally, I think that it's a case of the Patrick Admin. having a Henry II/Thomas à Becket moment. A non-violent bureaucratic version of "Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?"

Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 15, 2010 12:54 PM (I/MqP)

126 Rory Reid: Dad was always in D.C., so I really never knew him. Tragic, but the upside is, I'm an entirely diferent Democrat than he is! Seriously. He had, like, no influence on me, whatsoever...at all...
Eh?

Bring it on. We're in a war. Brown's offensive is one battle. Reid's is another. It's good morale for the troops to know we're winning, and knowing how demoralizing it must be for the enemy.

135 I look at what Dingy is doing and it calls to mind the nanny or nurse (or whatever the hell she was) in The Omen standing in the window screaming "it's all for you Damien!" just before she hangs herself. Nancy for damn sure better be careful around little Barry and his green power tricycle
