| Shock: Puddle-Headed Liberal Joan Walsh of Salon Finds Criticism of Obama "Traitorous"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, except between January 20, 2009, and January 18, 2013. Remember when dissent was supposed to be patriotic? Well, it seems that only applies when a Republican is president. Now that Barack Obama is in the White House, criticism of him is "un-American" and "traitorous." This new "tolerant" view of dissent comes from Joan Walsh of Salon.Com as you can see in this Hardball video from Wednesday. Below is the Walsh money quote but please be sure to also watch the video since it is important to watch as she drops any facade of liberal tolerance and lets her true dogmatic soul reveal itself in both her face and voice which seems to border on dementia:Video at the link. Traitorous? Really? To quote this for the hundredth time, here is Gary Kamiya, writing in Joan Walsh's Salon webzine, soon after the fall of Baghdad: I have a confession: I have at times, as the war has unfolded, secretly wished for things to go wrong. Wished for the Iraqis to be more nationalistic, to resist longer. Wished for the Arab world to rise up in rage. Wished for all the things we feared would happen. I'm not alone: A number of serious, intelligent, morally sensitive people who oppose the war have told me they have had identical feelings. Some of this is merely the result of pettiness--ignoble resentment, partisan hackdom, the desire to be proved right and to prove the likes of Rumsfeld wrong, irritation with the sanitizing, myth-making American media. That part of it I feel guilty about, and disavow. But some of it is something trickier: It's a kind of moral bet-hedging, based on a pessimism not easy to discount, in which one's head and one's heart are at odds. Many antiwar commentators have argued that once the war started, even those who oppose it must now wish for the quickest, least-bloody victory followed by the maximum possible liberation of the Iraqi people. But there is one argument against this: What if you are convinced that an easy victory will ultimately result in a larger moral negative--four more years of Bush, for example, with attendant disastrous policies, or the betrayal of the Palestinians to eternal occupation, or more imperialist meddling in the Middle East or elsewhere? Wishing for things to go wrong is the logical corollary of the postulate that the better things go for Bush, the worse they will go for America and the rest of the world. So, if I have this right, wishing for greater numbers of US war dead is "patriotic," and criticizing Obama for screwing up everything he does -- something that already has a bodycount associated with it -- is "traitorous." Ohhhkay. Via this guy right here. BTW I am so hung over. Comments1

The problem with calling her hypocritical in her belief of what's
"treasonous" and "patriotic" is you really need to specify the country first. Exactly. Her bleating about "aid and comfort" is especially pukeworthy, since Obama is doing an excellent job of giving aid and comfort to America's enemies, like full protection of US law for non-citizens and unlawful combatants. Actually, I think this is something we've seen in progress for a while now. Starting a few months ago, prominent leftists started to decry the "unprecedented" nature of people comparing the president to various despots, most notably Hitler, and how this is destructive to our political system.
These same pundits of course called Bush Hitler. Their defense seems to be to argue that no one made such comparisons about Bush, which is obviously false. At first glance this is just more obvious lying on the side of the left...but for some of them it is more then that. I think they are forcing themselves to forget and that this process will get stronger, as the Left is guided by nothing if not group think. Oh, and they are right that this is destructive to our political system. But the time for turning the other cheek is over. These ####ers cheered on the Islamists in the Middle East and tried their damnedest to lose the war. Now is the time to make sure the left gets a nice steaming helping of their own medicine. projection is a defense mechanism, a primitive form of paranoia, where one attributes one's own unacknowledged thoughts onto another, including by "injustice collecting". it is "shifting one's unacceptable thoughts, emotions, etc. in oneself to someone else, such that those same thoughts, emotions, etc. are perceived as being possessed by the other." we saw this early in the vendetta against bush when a major rallying cry was "bush lied", as if compensating for the allegations & actual perjury of clinton. there are loads of other examples. it's weird & disturbing. I would love to see our country have a vigorous debate about what it means to be traitorous. Then I would love to see strong patriotic Americans start to observe the Constitution on treason, and hang people, such as Lindh and Somali-Americans who go on jihadh. Let us start hanging traitors, and giving the firing squad to terrorists who carry arms against the US without adhering to the Geneva Convention.

Rush Limbaugh just had a press conference in Hawaii. Said he had an angiogram, everything was clean. No arterial disease, and they have no idea what was causing the chest pains but he’s fine now. It would be a wonderful thing if we lived in a world where we don’t have enemies. But that is not the world we live in, and until Obama understands that, the American people have every reason to doubt whether he has the strength, judgment, and determination to keep us safe. (he doesn't) The Democratic party and their constituents have become the most immature, whiniest group of people I have ever had the misfortune to hear. Democrats have become the party of the most asinine, nastiest sound bites of the last 15 years. You have party members who have said some of the most heinous comments about the last president alone. Where the hell do you libtard people get off whining and complaining! Maybe one the press should play back ALL the nasty remarks made by those in the Democratic party for the last year alone! Philosophically aligned with European Social Democrats on both domestic and international issues, the central foreign policy tenant of the Democrat party's now dominant Obama -Carter - Dukakis - McGovern wing is "America Last". This cosmopolitan cabal sets as its strategic goals the gradual demilitarization of the United States and the accommodation or, appeasement ,of any state or interest (formerly Soviet and Chinese Communist interests; now Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Venezuela, Ecuador) that challenges the U.S. and its allies. This is a difficult, unpredictable world. Who beyond the triumphant left-most element of the Democrat party would entrust the defense of the West to Obama? Treasonous bastards, thats who. one reason this psychological pathology is characteristic of contemporary american leftists is that, for them, everything is subsumed into a political war against their enemies: republicans & conservatives. a conservative's enemy is al qaeda, an enemy of america; the left's only enemy is republicans. this goes back to the clintons & their advocates, who perceived a landscape where the only enemies were republicans, while refusing to see any real threats to america. provincial, childish, narcissistic &
very dangerous. Posted by: gomm at January 01, 2010 04:44 PM (Ibk1S) 126

Hangover cure: I think it depends how hungover you are. There are degrees, aren't there?
Hungover but not deathly (drank a little too much wine or beer) drink water and do some exercise that makes you sweat - e.g., stairmaster, jog - so the toxins get sweated out of your body. Then you can drink again, later! Deathly ill hangover (drank the hard stuff like gin, vodka, or both on an empty stomach): drink water, go to bed, stay off alcohol for 24 hours. since the reagan revolution and the disintegration of lbj's great society programs, the liberals have been left with a purely abstract ideology and abstract war with "the right". they see the world as left vs right. conservatives, by my definition, see the world in terms of reality, including that america is in the world & america is a good. because they exist in a fantasy world divorced from reality, they are subject to and exhibit bizarre psychosomatic traits. and their raison d'etre becomes the wreaking of vengeance and destruction on their perceived enemies for it's own sake. bastards. Newsweak predicting Chavez will be ousted in a coup this year.
I rather doubt that will happen. All of his serious internal enemies are either in prison or shallow graves, and his military leadership over the past few years has been set to Cuba for "training" (where undoubtedly a number of them were recruited as DA/DGI spies who would report back if such a thing was in the works) I suspect the Cubans wouldn't trust a buffoon like Chavez enough to keep his own house in order and took out such an "insurance policy" on their own initiative. I almost wonder if this was even worth posting. We KNEW exactly what would happen when President 0 took office and proceeded to do what we knew he would do and some of criticized him for it.
Called racists? Check Called traitors? Check. I can only assume that they realize the charge of racism isn't sticking. This new charge must have come out of the latest DNC memo. These people truly make me sick. Posted by: lemosley at January 01, 2010 07:09 PM (7P8hm) 189
I had my moronic asshole nephew (it's not entirely his fault--he was raised by my screaming liberal sister in San Francisco) spoil one Christmas dinner by insulting a conservative guess, mouthing off about "frat boy" Bush, and saying "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism". I suspect he would have gotten along well with Joan Walsh. Maybe he can have Christmas dinner with her these days since the little sumbitch hasn't been invited back to my table.
OTOH Walsh you bitch---how's that payback for all your years of Bush bashing working out for you? Not so well I hear. Tough noogies. Posted by: Chicken Choker & Corncob Smoker at January 01, 2010 07:17 PM (ktYjH) 190

OK, so Joan Walsh thinks Tom Hayden is a traitor for peeling the Obama ass"O" sticker off his car, huh?
Agreed. Execute both of them. Posted by: CoolCzech at January 01, 2010 08:01 PM (QECjC) 192

ace, a loss of mineralswater. Sports teams always got gatorade on hand for that. If you can't crawl to the store and buy some then cut the head of a dog off and drink the blood. I mean as a second option. good luck Posted by: ron dorque at January 01, 2010 08:28 PM (HdTmd) 194
Can't cure a hangover, only treat the symptoms. But as a preventative, next time you are planning some heavy drinking, add water or lots ice to the drinks. When I am three sheets to the wind I start drinking more because I get dehydrated from the alcohol and have those last couple drinks because I'm thirsty. Adding water will fight off the dehydration and you will drink less alcohol. Go ahead and don't bother with water on the first drink while you are sober enough to enjoy it. By the third drink you won't even notice the extra water.
Why do I have to learn this lesson over at least once a year? Posted by: snookered at January 01, 2010 08:32 PM (7Vg6Y) 195
I really hope my birthday present in 2013 is to see the last of this treasonous motherfucker. He and Chewbama can go on one last date night then load up the U-haul in the morning.

Reminds me of 9/11. I was a company commander in 1st Infantry Division in Germany at the time. My lefty sister included me on a group email chain criticizing people in the US for putting flags on everything. After about my third response, her lefty friends were emailing her asking her to tell me to stop responding to their posts. My main transgression was to ask them questions - one of their points was that anyone who didn't vote shouldn't wave a flag. Ten percent of my soldiers were not citizens, so I asked if it was okay that my noncitizen soldiers wear a flag on their uniform even though they didn't vote. Got lots of responses to that email, but never got a clear response to the question.

By their own logic it's now completely legitimate for one to wish that Gary Kamiya is executed by a shotgun blast to the forehead. Not that anyone would be so vile, you understand, but were he to answer his doorbell and have someone distribute his cranial contents on the wall behind him while his horrified family looks on, then because the perpetrator believed shutting him up was preferable to have him talking, then that justifies the act.
And that, people, is essentially what he's saying. Means justifying ends. Dead soldiers (and I'd remind you that the death toll is not exclusively US) vs. the Bush/Cheney nexus of horror is so lop-sided in its moral ramifications that having the US military defeated is a net plus. That's not treachery, of course. But it's for damn sure sedition. Posted by: David Gillies at January 01, 2010 11:57 PM (g4zXx) 199

@183: Chavez's main problem is that he made grandiose promises based on an outlook of $100/barrel being the new normal for oil. It's not, and I predict that when it's obvious that the global economy is still in the shitter the price of oil will collapse back to the natural $40/barrel price.
When he can no longer afford to buy off the peasant masses, it won't matter what assets Cuba has in the army. More on topic (yes, pun intended), I find that making my mixed drinks with Gatorade is the best hangover prevention. I call vodka mixed with grape Gatorade a "purple people eater"... ...the only thing i can add is that once a columnist to the SF Examiner wrote, "There are two kinds of people in Berkeley. Those that are trying to over throw the government, and those that are looking for the perfect croissant."

Pack in a couple of aspirin with as much water as you can tolerate and take it easy.
Back during my drinking days, I would do this before heading to bed (if I could remember in my drunken state.) It always seemed to mitigate the effects. Posted by: Steve L. at January 02, 2010 11:34 AM (mIIVr) 204
