Bastards: McConnell Agrees to Earlier Christmas Eve Vote So He Can Go Back Home
He could have held it up 11 more hours.Instead he caves. To go home early for Christmas. Dude, people miss Christmas, you know. Not to play the troops card. But okay, what about the troops? And millions of other Americans miss Christmas with the family, or have a later Christmas, because it's their job to miss it. And you can't? Not even once? Senator McConnell, how many times have you missed a home-for-the-holidays Christmas? I bet we are talking an extremely low number here, and not for years and years and years. You should get your ass to work for the same reason 7-11 employees work on Christmas. Because it's your job to do so, asshole. Comment... Oh look, "Mitch McConnell" is in the comments. Just one of the many celebrities we get here.
This bill is the most worstest bill ever in the history of mankind. And I'll fight right up until 3pm eastern to defeat it. Then I'll go home and drink egg nog. Then come back the next day and complain a little more. If I don't have gas.Indeed. I will fight for the preservation of the American Way right up until the point it interferes with my travel plans.

Posted by: Locus Ceruleus at December 22, 2009 04:38 PM (tzcjs)
66 I can see both sides of this:
A: It's the Dems who scheduled a Christmas Eve vote. If they want to do it then, then fine. There's nothing stopping them from doing this vote when they come back.
B: Its going to happen anyway. Maybe the GOP looking obstructionist when the ultimate end is a foregone conclusion would be a bad thing.
On the "war" metaphor: I'd like to think that the GOP isn't retreating, just attacking in a different direction. However, it feels more like MacArthur leaving his troops behind at Bataan, and we all know what happened after that. Who's ready for the Bataan ObamaCare Death March?

Ace, cool thy jets. What was the single event that blew single-payer, universal coverage, and hard-line abortion language out of the water? It was the Labor Day recess. And anti-OCare voters are more numerous and more vociferous than they were 3 months ago. The sooner the Dems go home and face the music, the better. Moore told General McAuliffe that we had a German surrender ultimatum. The General's first reaction was that the Germans wanted to surrender to us. Col. It's about doing everything in your power to make the other guys attempt to do something miserable, with hopes that he gives up, or expends so much will in the process that he chooses not to bother with the next thing on his list. 183 Great moments in Republican history--if they happened today:
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining
before usthat from these honored dead we take increased devotion to
that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotionthat
we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vainthat
this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedomand that
government: of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not
perish from the earth. Unless, of course, I have a flight to catch, in which case the whole thing is off.

Unless you can cause enough of a ruckus that they decide to put off the next grand vote until after the recess. And then maybe their constituents will give them a different perspective on the whole subject. This isn't like shutting down the entire Federal government, where the Democrats can gin up faux outrage over the Republicans' willingness to "hurt the common man." This is screwing up the vacation plans of the lawmakers across the aisle: no one's constituents will be outraged at the GOP denying their Senator his or her scheduled return flight.

You still have the reconcilliation that has to occur with the House bill and then you have to start all over again. If they can only delay it a few hours and will then have to start all over again next year it makes more sense to save all the tricks to delay next year when it gets reintroduced.

231 What it comes down to is that they do not want to upset their esteemed Democrat colleagues. That and they are lazy assholes themselves.
They look for a miracle on November 10 to put them, if not back in control of at least one House, to make it impossible for the enemy to just ram things through over their opposition. That implies that the election is the key. Elections are won by a lot of hard work by a lot of people. For the Republican party, those people are the Conservatives who they spend most of the election cycle pissing on. And then a couple of months before the election they say it is our fault if we don't carry their asses across the finish line. While they sit back and do nothing but plan how they are going to win "Miss Congeniality" in office.
Why the hell should Conservatives bust their asses for this lot of lop-earred duds? If they win, they won't fight for us, for the country, or the Constitution. They won't even inconvenience themselves by having to take a later flight out.
There is no time to put together a 3rd Party before November. Hell, there is no assurance that there will even be an election in November. [Maybe they know that and that is why they are phoning it in.] I am lucky that my Congressman is one of the few who has stood up and fought back all the way [which is why the Colorado Republican Party tried to replace him with a RINO who wanted to reach across the aisle]. Our Senate race is open still, but unless the RINO [yet another Party Central Committee insider] running gets the nomination, I will have to vote Republican. If they force the RINO on us, I will vote Constitution Party. But if we are still having elections in 2012, please; let there be a TEA Party, a Conservative Party, or an Arctic Fox Party. Someone, anyone, who can lead. Because this lot of qing1wa1 cao4 de5 liu2mang2men0 are more cowardly than an Italian General leading a unit of the French Army.
