That Airbus is cool, but when 747's first came out they had piano bars and stuff. Now they try to cram 550 people into them instead. The big Airbus will end up the same way, unfortunately.

Just $10 billion a year for a hoax. Sounds about right. Barry is probably writing a check right now.
NEW YORK – Money on the table — perhaps $10 billion a year or more — could help close a deal in Denmark next month and keep climate talks moving toward a new global treaty in 2010. But if poorer nations see too little offered up front, the U.N. conference could end in discord. "Rich countries must put at least $10 billion a year on the table to kick-start immediate action up to 2012," the U.N. climate chief, Yvo de Boer, told reporters last week in a preview of the two-week conference opening next Monday in Copenhagen. Yvo and the rest of his crowd need a good kick start in the pants. Posted by: TheQuietMan at November 29, 2009 10:25 PM (r8Lsg) 24

I have a sad little Charlie Brown tree (it's fake). It's just too cute, plus it's low maintenance for just one person. I can't handle live trees. I had a bad gin experience about 15 years ago that I've never recovered from. When I walk in and get a whiff of someone's real tree I have flashbacks to spending the day with my head hanging in the loo. Makes me want to wretch all over. Sexy, huh? Getting the tree home last year was an interesting ordeal. Hauling it in the front door and then seeing it just brushes the ceiling when standing upright. I love the smell of Christmas trees, but real ones are messier than the fake ones. My mom has a friend who's parents own a flower shop and she gives us a wreath every year. I just love to smell it and inhale the scent of Christmas. Posted by: wherestherum at November 29, 2009 10:41 PM (gofDd) 56

I think I'll take my son to get our tree tomorrow. We always get two. A larger one for downstairs and a tiny little tree for my bedroom. I can't stand wrestling with a live tree, but I do it for my kid. Despite the fact that I know that years from now he'll find something else to complain about me about in therapy, it won't be because I deprived him of a damn tree. Mr. D'oh, D'oh Boy and I have always bought a tree the day after Thanksgiving. This year, with the boy at boot camp, my mom gone, and most of our family gone, I swore I wouldn't do anything. However, husband and I went out and got the tree night after Thanksgiving, had dinner, and brought the beast home. I stared at it all day yesterday. Finally got the nerve to decorate it, and the rest of the house, today. Feels good.
On the upside, didn't die from salmonella at a friend's Thanksgiving dinner. (The first one I haven't hosted/cooked in 20 years). Mr. D'oh called the dressing "gray sage fudge." Heh. I love the big wreaths on doors - driving around the neighborhood seeing all of the wreaths on the door is great. I'm guessing that means she's going to pick one up and surprise me. The only 2 pieces of advice I can give you on this is simple: measure the distance between the floor and the ceiling and measure the tree. The very first live tree Mrs. Mallamut and I ever got (when the oldest was 1) turned out to be 9 feet tall. Which was great, till we got home and realized we had 8 feet of space to fit it it. The upside, the little one got a 14 inch Christmas tree for her room. Being 1, I am not sure she appreciated it. Posted by: Mallamutt at November 29, 2009 10:53 PM (V9SYy) 87

Jane, what's your secret to kitteh-proofing trees? I've put up Christmas lights around the upper part of the window frames for the past few years to keep the cats from playing with the electric cords. They do love the colored lights, and I also have stockings for them hanging where they can't reach the goodies inside until Christmas morning. Would love to have a tree but the safety issues still concern me. BTW, good to see you back again. Glad to know that the sun is breaking through the clouds for you. Elle Magazine, the french style bible, has proclaimed that Michelle Obama is more chic than Carla Bruni. I think the video shows it's a real toss-up. They change the show every year, adding and deleting things. So... if they're coming to your town, it's worth a trip. IMHO. Posted by: shibumi at November 29, 2009 11:36 PM (OKZrE) 199

The Ravens were playing well right up until about a minute ago when they decided to go all out and throw on every down and not complete any of the passes. They just handed the ball over to Pittsburgh with excellent field position. Posted by: Blazer at November 29, 2009 11:44 PM (+FzLa) 213

Favre only has 3 INT's all season, whereas usually that's what he logs in a game. He looked great last year up until December too. Posted by: kbdabear at November 29, 2009 11:55 PM (sYxEE) --Actually, Favre started flaming out last year before December, and had already racked up far more INTs. He also has a better offensive line, and (apologies to Thomas Jones, who is a good back) the luxury of Adrian Peterson to hand off from time to time. Rice, Harvin, Berrian and Shiancoe are collectively better than his Jets receivers as well. Finally, that defense takes a lot of the pressure off him to win. "It should also be pointed out that Gov. Huckabee issued Maurice Clemmons a clemency when he should still be rotting in an Arkansas prison instead of free to commit heinous acts in other states. Someone mentioned the dry Arab countries. I spent time TDY in Manama, Bahrain. I could see the causeway bridge from Dahran, Saudi Arabia from my hotel room window. The line of cars coming over on Wednesday (IIRC) evenings went on for hours. Thursday and Friday are their weekends and you can drink in Bahrain but not Saudi Arabia. Plus the women could get rid of those stupid clothes for a couple days. A lot of the men spent the whole weekend in the hotel bars. Plus there were other bars to go to. One used to get a bunch of women around midnight every night when the local stewardess school let out. I think it was the Brits that had a school there. Can't remember the airline.

I wish the idiots who run the CA public school system would understand that. When I graduated high school it was REQUIRED that students go to a 2 or 4 year college or a vocational school upon graduating. We had to show proof or we weren't allowed to graduate. So if you were drafted into the NFL or NBA out of high school, tough shit, I guess. They push it harder for the blacks and Hispanics to encourage education, but the harder they push them to go to college right after high school, more drop out once they get there. Most colleges have a class or other means of preparation to help the freshmen adjust to college. 337 - and that's the exact reason I was excited to go to college. Free at last, I thought. Yeah, dorm life wasn't the greatest, but I had really good room-mates who became my best friends for most of college. And I loved the whole college dating scene. I didn't really date anyone in high school, so college opened up a whole new experience for me. And thankfully, my high school really prepared me academically - so while college wasn't super easy, it was significantly easier than high school, if I chose my time wisely.

Dorm life was...different. I found myself suddenly crammed in a suite with 8 girls I didn't know. Roomed with a senior twice, so I ended up living in dorms for 3yrs & apts for 1yr. The apts were so much better, as it was more like regular living quarters post-college.

Extended orientation was always wonderful--not! We were once blind-folded, then led around campus through the sprinklers. Ended up underneath the windows of our brother floor. They poured water, flour, & egg yokes on us. Later had to wade through the muddy pond while trying to hang on to a Crisco-covered pumpkin. We also played that pass-the-orange game. Had to wash my hair 6-7 times to get all that stuff out of my hair.
Another time, my friend & I played "war games" & had to crawl on our stomachs through the chilly mud to reach the berm. Posted by: Miss'80sBaby at November 30, 2009 01:22 AM (ZH1LJ) 366

...My problem wasn't so much the workload, as I actually was pushed harder in high school...
My experience was the exact opposite. I cruised through H/S on native intelligence without doing a lick of work (maybe 1/2hr total homework over the whole 4 years, minus writing papers) and as a result never learned how to actually study. Freshman college year was like getting hit in the face with a brick and my grades were terrible. It took about 3 years before I really adjusted and taught myself how to truly study effectively, and grades went up consistently as I started figuring it out. I figure it was that constant increase in GPA that got me into grad school, since the 4 year average wasn't all that great. Did fine in grad school. Senior year in college I'd have gotten a 4.0 were it not for some cocksucker prof in an elective Surrealistic Art class I got a B in. Sumbitch stated upfront the first day of class that if you weren't an "art major" you weren't going to get an A no matter how good you did. Babylon 5, though the first season was a bit rocky and there were some stinkers mixed in with the other seasons, that series was great start to finish. I shutdown my intranet servers for the same reason. I only power something up when I really need it now. When enough shit is on, you start to get a bad feedback loop going with your A/C too. 10 years ago I was getting $350 power bills during the summer months. Shutting off the servers dropped that down to $150. Going without A/C at all takes it down into the $40 range. Posted by: Purple Avenger at November 30, 2009 02:24 AM (balEU) 438

that is a nice computer as well! In the long run both you and I know it's not really about the performance boost - it's because we want cooler toys to play with. so on that basis, stop trying to rationalize it - just buy the damn chip! I say Suckabee is on the hook for 95% of that shitbird's crimes, but as for the other 10%:
In Pierce County, Clemmons had been in jail for the past several months on a child-rape charge that carries a possible life sentence. He was released from custody one week ago, even though he was staring at eight felony charges in all. Clemmons posted $15,000 with a Chehalis company called Jail Sucks Bail Bonds. The bondsman, in turn, put up $150,000, securing Clemmons' release on the child-rape charge. --Kiss that 150 grand goodbye, shitwit. Oh, and thanks to the dumbass judge who allowed bail. Posted by: logprof at November 30, 2009 03:32 AM (I3Udb) 501
Two days later, at his home, Clemmons allegedly gathered his wife and two younger relatives at around 3 or 4 a.m. and had them all undress. He told them that families need to "be naked for at least five minutes on Sunday," a Pierce County sheriff's report says. The family complied because they were afraid of Clemmons and thought he was growing increasingly erratic. "The whole time Clemmons kept saying things like trust him, the world is going to end soon, and that he was Jesus," the report says. --Probably due to global warming bullshit. 'preciate it!Actually, it's the person who provided the collateral for that bond is going to be the one kissing it good bye. Bail bonds are like loans; ya gotta put up some collateral as a guarantee. Posted by: akornzombie at November 30, 2009 05:02 AM (MgnVj) 512
The bail bonding process is not uniform from State to State and is usually highly regulated by State law. hey may, or may not require collateral in the case of a large bond. The fees do range between 10% and 15% which is not refundable.
In the case above, the actual bond is not automatically "kissed goodbye". The purpose of the bond is to assure (hence the name surety bond) that the defendant will show up in court. The bail is not revoked until the defendant fails to show up in court and it is indicated that the defendant is fleeing prosecution. What is really crappy about the entire process is that the bail bondsman gets his fee for a "short term loan" which actually cost him nothing unless you fail to show. These folks have a "deal" with local courts in which they will provide the money if the defendant fails to show but they don't have to put up a nickle in advance. I am not familiar with WA law, but if it is similar to CA law (circa 1972) someone had to put up $1500.00 to the bailbondsman who provided surety for this guy. Most likely this guy will be shot by the police, ot at the minimum he will be rearrested. Bail will not be forfeited so the bondman will not have to pay anything. The first electrically-powered replica watch watch, the Hamilton Electric 500, was released in 1957 by the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Watch batteries (strictly speaking cells, a battery is composed of replicas watches cells) are specially designed for their purpose. They are very small and provide tiny amounts of power continuously for very long periods (several years or more). In most cases, replacing the battery requires a trip to a watch-repair shop or watch dealer; this is especially true for watches that are designed to be water-resistant, as special tools and procedures are required to ensure that the watch remains water-resistant after battery replacement. Silver-oxide and lithium batteries are popular today; mercury batteries, formerly quite common, are no longer used, for environmental reasons. Cheap batteries may be alkaline, of the same size as silver-oxide but providing shorter life. Rechargeable batteries are used in some solar powered watches. Solar powered watches are powered by light. A photovoltaic cell on the face (dial) of the replicas watch converts light to electricity, which in turn is used to charge a rechargeable battery or capacitor. The movement of the watch draws its power from the rechargeable battery or capacitor. As long as the watch is regularly exposed to fairly strong light (such as sunlight), it never needs battery replacement, and some models need only a few minutes of sunlight to provide weeks of energy (as in the Citizen Eco-Drive).
