Google "explains" how images of Michelle Obama as a monkey come up in searches

Of course, its all algorithms blah, blah, blah and they screen out offensive stuff ASAP blah, blah, blah. Trust the priesthood. Trust the priesthood. Trust the priesthood.

Curiously, no "explanation" is offered how an image search for "George Bush" has the second image showing Bush eating a kitten, or how the "related searches" feature "suggests" searching on "george bush monkey"

GoogleGate™ anyone? Right, the media will get right on that.

Don't subsidize evil. Give Bing a try. Bing may produce similar results, but they're not 99% in the bag for Obama wiping their chin off every 5 seconds, and I've found that Bing gives better results that Google. Less drivel, more on target.

28 27 - I *did* switch. I use Bing and I recommend it to everyone. I only use Google when both Bing and Yahoo don't get the results I want and I need to try something else. My point was basically that we shouldn't get too excited about Bing as they will probably let us down in the future. Wondering about a boycott. Take that hard core 25% of die hard conservatives. That shit just wears down the teams emotionally, physically, and cramps your development style having to save every single email, paper memo, presentation, etc. Its a big drain, with no reward at all in the end even if you're vindicated.

Back during the IBM anti-trust action days, it was a major hassle. If a manager scribbled so much as a phone number or doodled on a napkin or scrap of paper, it all got packed away in boxes and sent to a warehouse.

And just to clarify, Google setup their localized search engine to comply with China's specific laws, they didn't somehow setup an arbitrary system to screw the Chinese people . And as screwed up as those laws may be, it's not a moral breaking point for them as a business. They want to do business in China because they can potentially make billions of dollars there, and in exchange they're asked to limit the results of the search to a limited index based on local laws.
