| Google "explains" how images of Michelle Obama as a monkey come up in searchesOf course, its all algorithms blah, blah, blah and they screen out offensive stuff ASAP blah, blah, blah. Trust the priesthood. Trust the priesthood. Trust the priesthood. Curiously, no "explanation" is offered how an image search for "George Bush" has the second image showing Bush eating a kitten, or how the "related searches" feature "suggests" searching on "george bush monkey" GoogleGate™ anyone? Right, the media will get right on that.![]() Comments1

Prediction:
More and more conservatives will migrate to Bing. Bing will notice a bump in traffic. Talk radio will discuss this. So will Fox News. Then, the entire MSM will, as one, attack Bing as "not a real search engine" and controlled by "Big Microsoft." Popular television shows will, apropos of nothing, mention Bing as "a right-wing pseudo-search engine." Same with Hollywood movies. And newspapers. And news magazines. Bing will become the punchline of a joke that everyone has heard t least 20 times. It will become a meme that the only people using Bing are inbred retards, home-schooled Mormons, and beaten housewives. Bing's numbers will collapse. Google's numbers will rise again. The leftists will celebrate another victory thanks to their complete control over the levers of power and influence. The system is gamed, folks. Face it. When you've got the President of the United States declaring what is and what isn't acceptable "news," and most of the MSM just shrugs it off, you know the fix is in. mallardducklintbrush 24- yes, true enough, but for now Bing is better and the switch over is no big deal. I like Bing - if for no other reason than its imagery honored veterans on Veterans Day. But it searches also seem better. Why not simply switch?
Posted by: Lugs at November 29, 2009 01:38 AM (LGF2O) 28
27 - I *did* switch. I use Bing and I recommend it to everyone. I only use Google when both Bing and Yahoo don't get the results I want and I need to try something else. My point was basically that we shouldn't get too excited about Bing as they will probably let us down in the future. Of course...if we make Bing the conservative search standard...Microsoft is probably smart enough to recognize a niche market when they see one...maybe. ;-)
At least Bing shows the proper images on national holidays...Google? Not so much. Posted by: mallardducklintbrush at November 29, 2009 01:43 AM (/BWlL) 29
Going to try Bing. Is there anything, and I mean absolutely anything, no matter how inconsequential, that the left will not try to politicize to serve their ends? Wondering about a boycott. Take that hard core 25% of die hard conservatives. Anything (Google, AOL, MSNBC, Olberman, Letterman, GQ magazine, Vanity Fair, whatever) )that shows left wing favoritism is hit immediately with a total boycott. Even if only 25% of that 25% of hard core conservatives participated, the ramifications would be significant. Fair play is all that we ask. Hammer a right winger in an editorial, fine. But next time hammer a lefty. If you can't come up with a viable Biden joke for every Palin joke you push, millions will refuse to watch your show, buy your publication or product, refuse to take any action that will possibly put $ in your or your sponsor's pockets. I realize this sounds like a college dorm BS session, but musing after a few brews tonight and reading thread, I am so sick of liberal propaganda coming at me from every single direction, and tired of being in a fist fight with one hand tied behind our back while the other guy has a knife and the ref cheers. And if you're thinking that this approach isn't really the American way, or fair, or worth it... Well, think about how much slack the other side cuts us. bing put up a touching and beautiful 9/11 memorial image, and millions of people switched at that point. All of a sudden, Google started showing patriotic images on Veteran's day and the like.
They refused to, often with strange excuses, until someone came along and took the initiative. All that means is that they are greedy liberals, and will get limit their bias if it affects the bottom line. Honestly, I think these sort of complaints are about the dumbest reason possible to boycott a company like Google, and makes us sound like a bunch of Kos kids. The reasoning they gave for the monkey image coming up for Michelle is valid, and also explains why Bush searches come up with the crass photoshops. Long story short: it's because they're popular and relevant.
The reason they took this image down? All the "outrage." Practically no one gives a shit that Bush searches come up with monkey pictures, you don't hear about that on the nightly news. Conservatives traditionally act like adults in this regard, in that they don't throw hissy fits over every personal attack that comes down the wire. Unlike the Obamas. Plus, redirecting your money to Bing, a Microsoft company? They're just as liberal, folks. It's like switching from Keith Olbermann to Chris Matthews - either way, it's still a tool on your screen. With Google being sued over news links, I'm guessing they're just holding back to see how that plays out and just report on those organizations they've got contract agreements with. I suspect Microsoft has grown a bit tired of defending lawsuits. That shit just wears down the teams emotionally, physically, and cramps your development style having to save every single email, paper memo, presentation, etc. Its a big drain, with no reward at all in the end even if you're vindicated. Back during the IBM anti-trust action days, it was a major hassle. If a manager scribbled so much as a phone number or doodled on a napkin or scrap of paper, it all got packed away in boxes and sent to a warehouse. I am in the computer industry. Trust me, there are few companies in the industry even close to the liberal leanings as Google. Its one thing to lean left, its another to have that leaning drive how you do business. Microsoft is out to make money, Google is out to spread ideology.
Microsoft hires all, google won't hire anyone that isn't left in politics. Plus google has a whole lot of data to mine and can persuade public opinion by its search results. I need to have a search engine as my "home" page. Did Bing 9/11/09 -11/23/09. Just don't like it. Hate the fucking too long load time for a pseudo Nat Geo picture that insists (apon itself) that I'm probably a some sort of benighted ignoramus that needs to be enlightened by a link to a fucking wiki article. Fuck You, Bing! The advantage that Google has for me is that even when they are trying to be evil I can get more depth to topics that I need to find links to. Sorry Bing. Perhaps you are better at not censoring "news of the moment" or the latest "shopping deals" but you are unwieldy when it comes to trying to drill down further on most of the topics that interest me. I dunno, perhaps I'm too picky. I guess if I was nicer, I'd put in a request for some vanilla scented hand soap. I bet Bing would find me what I'm looking for right away. Too bad I don't buy soap over the internet. Went back to Google. Will still stick with it. 'Cause I know that they are evil. Jim in San Diego: Just because someone has the means to do something doesn't mean they're doing it, especially when there are a million reasons they wouldn't. This pathological fear of big business has been bred into us by the last couple decades of Hollywood, but that doesn't make it any more likely or true.
And just to clarify, Google setup their localized search engine to comply with China's specific laws, they didn't somehow setup an arbitrary system to screw the Chinese people . And as screwed up as those laws may be, it's not a moral breaking point for them as a business. They want to do business in China because they can potentially make billions of dollars there, and in exchange they're asked to limit the results of the search to a limited index based on local laws. It's pretty clear what's best for the shareholders in that scenario. Posted by: Dan G. at November 29, 2009 04:59 AM (WRIFO) 79

"Search for going rouge, notice how the top hits are a hit piece book that has sold a fraction of the copies as the real book, but the hit piece has all the top search results." Well, duh, if you search for "going rouge" (the title of the opportunistic reply to "going rogue", which is the title of Sarah Palin's book), that what you're going to get. I've used ask.com for awhile. I've been hesitant to use Bing because in my experience MS products tend to behave like viruses; i.e., they do things you don't tell them to do. A couple of years ago Google had plans to build a data center nearby, and hence, were hiring. So a couple of their reps came to our school to give a presentation, giving that "Don't be evil" spiel. The person speaking wanted to connect with her office, so we provided an Ethernet cable (this was before we installed wireless). I 'happened' to monitor the firewall, and in less than a minute my network was getting a full port scan from Google. I've never trusted them since.

They want to do business in China because they can potentially make billions of dollars there, and in exchange they're asked to limit the results of the search to a limited index based on local laws. It's pretty clear what's best for the shareholders in that scenario. In other words, fuck the people if it means making a profit. Hey, you know what woulda made a great business in the early '40's? I treat google the same way that I treat the loony left actors like Martin Sheen, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Tim Robbins etc. I will not pay to watch any of the movies that they are in. I now use Bing and have found it ok. It doesn't always give as many hits as google but I hate the people at google. I called them once to complain about how hard it was to put Fox news on my desktop. To find Fox I had to go to about thirty pages down to see the logo even though Fox was the most popular news show. CNN came up on every other page. They told me it was not deliberate and that was all they would say. We have to vote with our money and as long as you are too lazy to act, they will control our media info. I believe that we are making headway with the LSM and it shows on their bottom line.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation takes big role in education October 25, 2009, 2:01PM WASHINGTON -- The real secretary of education, the joke goes, is Bill Gates. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been the biggest player by far in the school reform movement, spending around $200 million a year on grants to elementary and secondary education. Now the foundation is taking unprecedented steps to influence education policy, spending millions to influence how the federal government distributes $5 billion in grants to overhaul public schools. The federal dollars are unprecedented, too. *snip* Posted by: Y-not at November 29, 2009 01:02 PM (sey23) Posted by: Stoop Davy Dave at November 29, 2009 02:14 PM (iSkWo) 144

I PROMISE it's the best search engine out there. From the 'About' section of their site. "what really makes Clusty unique is what happens after you search. Instead of delivering millions of search results in one long list, our search engine groups similar results together into clusters. Clusters help you see your search results by topic so you can zero in on exactly what youre looking for or discover unexpected relationships between items. When was the last time you went to the third or fourth page of the search results? Rather than scrolling through page after page, the clusters help you find results you may have missed or that were buried deep in the ranked list. "

The first electrically-powered replica watch watch, the Hamilton Electric 500, was released in 1957 by the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Watch batteries (strictly speaking cells, a battery is composed of replicas watches cells) are specially designed for their purpose. They are very small and provide tiny amounts of power continuously for very long periods (several years or more). In most cases, replacing the battery requires a trip to a watch-repair shop or watch dealer; this is especially true for watches that are designed to be water-resistant, as special tools and procedures are required to ensure that the watch remains water-resistant after battery replacement. Silver-oxide and lithium batteries are popular today; mercury batteries, formerly quite common, are no longer used, for environmental reasons. Cheap batteries may be alkaline, of the same size as silver-oxide but providing shorter life. Rechargeable batteries are used in some solar powered watches. Solar powered watches are powered by light. A photovoltaic cell on the face (dial) of the replicas watch converts light to electricity, which in turn is used to charge a rechargeable battery or capacitor. The movement of the watch draws its power from the rechargeable battery or capacitor. As long as the watch is regularly exposed to fairly strong light (such as sunlight), it never needs battery replacement, and some models need only a few minutes of sunlight to provide weeks of energy (as in the Citizen Eco-Drive).
