Phil Jones: damn this cooling we need it to warm up!
The whole email exchange at this link is worth a read. It starts out at the bottom with our illustrious "science czar" John Holdren being CC:'d on the Sulphur Dioxide "plume stacks" cooling scheme that has been floating around, then towards the top morphs into Phil Jones wishing the damn cooling would just quit. Good stuff.

9 If we insist on geoengineering solutions, pump near-freezing seawater onto the never-thawing Antarctic cap. The caps are the planet's "radiators", with a quite astonishing amount of heat being dumped into space for such a cold place.
Voila, sea levels fixed... and we get to keep the warmer temperatures in the temperate zones. Bonus.

14 Answer: Before 1988.
Wanda, do you have any idea what it's like being English? Being so
correct all the time, being so stifled by this dread of, of doing the
wrong thing, of saying to someone "Are you married?" and hearing "My
wife left me this morning," or saying, uh, "Do you have children?" and
being told they all burned to death on Wednesday. You see, Wanda, we'll
all terrified of embarrassment. That's why we're so... dead. Most of my
friends are dead, you know, we have these piles of corpses to dinner.
But you're alive, God bless you, and I want to be, I'm so fed up with
all this. I want to make love with you, Wanda. I'm a good lover - at
least, used to be, back in the early 14th century. Can we go to bed?

15 My favorite part, from Mike MacCracken:
In any case, if the sulfate hypothesis is right, then your prediction of warming might end up being wrong. I think we have been too readily explaining the slow changes over past decade as a result of variability--that explanation is wearing thin.
I can't say that worries about explanations "wearing thin" ever appeared in the scientific processes I have seen. Maybe this "wearing thin"ness of explanations is their real contribution? It's radical ... Usually you have to traipse over to the sociology department to see that sort of stuff.
I would just suggest, as a backup to your prediction, that you also do some checking on the sulfate issue, just so you might have a quantified explanation in case the prediction is wrong.
Plan B, in the case the Earth survives. Good thinking. Prove that it MUST die, anyway.
Otherwise, the Skeptics will be all over us--the world is really cooling, the models are no good, etc.
LOL. This is insane. Earlier in the email, MacCracken is casually talking about ""geoengineering" to throw some sulfate clouds up here and there ... If you thought the left's social engineering has nearly ruined our monetary system, wait until you see what their geoengineering leaves in its wake. Whoa, boy! It'll be "Space or Die".

But, that would just be the beginning. Everytime their predictions would be wrong (which would be often) they would do something bigger. We see this in how they drive regulations. The CRA was not only not repealed, but they have been trying to double down on it, as I'm sure you're aware. Leftists are inherently unstable and very destabilizing to everything they touch because this is what they always do - try to stop the world and make it as static as the world of their childish imaginations is.

If the data did not fit my hypothesis, I had to submit to the hard reality that the world as I concieved it may not be the world as it exists.I had to question the accuracy of my methods, question my hypothesis, and, inthe worst case, start all over from scratch.
The enormity of coming up with original research that was doable, grant-worthy and based on a novel contribution was an ongoing lesion in humility. Science was an honorable pursuit, and the struggle to apprehend reality worth the pain.
Now I find out that all you have to do in science is make up shit.

53 A Fatal Tendency of Mankind
Self-preservation and self-development
are common aspirations among all people.
And if everyone enjoyed the unrestricted use of his faculties
and the free disposition of the fruits
of his labor, social progress
would be ceaseless, uninterrupted, and unfailing.
But there is also another tendency that is common among people.
When they can, they wish to live and prosper at the expense of others.
This is no rash accusation.
Nor does it come from a gloomy and uncharitable spirit.
The annals of history bear witness to the truth of it:
the incessant wars, mass migrations, religious persecutions,
universal slavery, dishonesty in commerce, and monopolies.
This fatal desire has its origin in the very nature of man
— in that primitive, universal, and insuppressible instinct
that impels him to satisfy his desires with the least possible pain.

Since Phil Jones has answered the FOIA process by saying he has no valid publishable raw station data to match to compare to the current ‘cooked’ dataset, And he has announced that the CRU has no idea what stations comprise their dataset, no reproducible methods, no published methods, and no record of how the CRU arrived at their current dataset, and your responses to similar requests for data and methods are the same as responses from Jones, Mann, et.al. then what on earth makes you think you are ‘doing science’? Science means published data and methods then DARING other scientists to disprove your theory. You, Mr Hansen, and your comrades at the CRU with all the secrecy and hidden data cooking, are not doing science at all. How do you respond?

79 This is exactly what I was complaining about just a few weeks ago: "Too many people are now getting unfiltered news from the internet". Virtually all of the politicking/manipulating/legislating up to now has revolved around the data/predictions provided by the corrupt-to-the-core CRU/IPCC cabal. 85 All this talk about 'going green' is fine and dandy until it starts digging into people's pockets.
The general public already knows this. Most of the polls reflect a majority against AGW legislation now. If they somehow did an accurate poll it would probably be on the order of 2/3 against, 1/5 for and the rest "undecided" (stupid).
The fact is that the government has NEVER been one to be actually concerned with the environment. Their concern has always been advancing government power and socialism. AGW/Green has always been nothing more than a vehicle for that movement.
As long as they think that they can push this scam and STILL be reelected they will continue to push it. This is where the MSM comes in. If the media is not covering the story they will figure that the average person either knows nothing about the recent events or that they do not believe what they are hearing from the "wingers" on the right.
IOW, their reelection is assured.

Lift up a rock and another snake comes slithering out from the ongoing University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) scandal, now riding as “Climategate”.
Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU’s unfolding Climategate scandal. In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people.
The files contain so much material that it is going to take some time to put it all in context. However, enough is already known to underscore their explosive nature. It is already clear the entire claims and positions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are based on falsified manipulated material and is therefore completely compromised.
The fallout will be extensive as material continues to emerge. Reputations of the scientists involved are already destroyed, however fringe players will continue to be identified and their reputations destroyed or sullied.
While the mainstream media is bending into pretzels to keep the scandal under the rug, Climategate is already the biggest scientific scandal in history because of the global policy implications.

As for incandescent bulbs, they price will not go up so much as the bulbs will simply disappear. Like Freon-12, they will become the chief item smuggled across the Mexican border.

107 What is funny about all the BS hype and the CFL fraud is that even IF the AGW scam was true CFL lighting would make almost zero impact on electricity usage.
Like all other "green" scams, the us of CFL bulbs is only a PR stunt with minimum impact. The only place where lighting has a significant impact on the average consumer home is a small strip about 50 miles wide along the California coast. There they have no A/C and most homes use natural gas for heating, cooking, and hot water heaters.
That same area is where the majority of the nation's idiot greenies come from. They don't really give a damn how much electricity costs because they don't use any. This is why they also "think" that roof top solar panels is the answer to all the energy woes.
Most of the rest of the country, except the extreme North, have heat pumps for A/C and heating. (no coincidence that the North harbors a lot of the greenies as well). Also, most of the rest of the country use electricity for hot water.
Last year I spent $1800 on electricity at a rate of 7.1 cents/kw-hr. If that goes up by a factor of 5 it will go to $9000. Now I don't know about the rest of you Morons but I don't have that kind of money laying around to throw into a useless hole in the ground.
And that is ONLY for electricity. The price of EVERYTHING will go through the roof as energy prices go up. Remember the hyper inflation during the Carter years. A lot of that inflation was due to energy prices going up.
That was small compared to what the House bill will do to them. Of course, by the time people actually see the impact it will be too late. The government will blame the "evil" oil companies and the evil utilities. Then what little is left of these companies will be nationalized.
So why are these companies supporting the crap and tax. They have been bribed and CEOs now only look at the short term. They will be CEO for only 5 years at the most and that is ALL they care about.

But Precedent Hopenchange and his rat-faced little buddy Waxman have assured us that if they get their way, skyrocketing power bills are good for us here in the Midwest....and they wouldn't lie to us, would they?
Just as a reminder...the new politically correct term is "climate change". Global warming is so 2003. After all, the believers in the Church of Climatology got sick of all the "heathen non-believers" tossing up incidents of record cold in their faces. I mean, the dumb clucks didn't believe them when they said that extreme cold snaps were evidence that the planet was heating up. Climate change? Yeah....that would shut 'em up and keep the gravy train rolling.....
Now if they could only come up with a term to cover the lack of predicted superhurricanes hitting the coasts, they'd be so happy! (You mean Katrina wasn't a fluke????)

Looking at the geologic record of estimated CO2 and temps, it does not seem that higher CO2 causes higher global temperatures. Higher CO2 levels would be beneficial to plant growth.

Oh sweetie, come here and sit down for a minute. You see, certain scientists told the world some lies about this thing called global warming. Then, leaders from around the world supported those lies and told more lies of their own. Even our leaders here in America told us lies to about how this made-up thing would hurt people.

It also has to do with competitive advantage. Walmart and GE, for example, can afford higher fines, fees, and taxes, which their smaller rivals could not. Don't be fooled: large corporations want nothing resembling a free market. Competition is bad for them, and extreme legislation is a powerful tool to keep them on top.

Not all schools teach the party line. I had a nephew attending UNC at Wilmington. He attended a required course in climatology and on his first day the instructor asked how many people believed in "global warming" and then how many believed it was caused by man.
He said nearly everyone raised their hands for both. When asked how many did NOT believe in it he said he was the only one who raised his hand.
The instructor then said he was the only one who was right. He then told them they would learn why he was right during the class.

There is a common thread in all the important global issues that are facing the world. This common thread is world control. The world leaders are in effect being brain-washed into relinquishing their duties to protect their respective nations in the name of doing something for the higher good.
This would be all well and good if it could be believed that scientists are acting in the people’s best interests. But, since when have scientists been assumed to be altruistic? Why is it accepted that they will only act in the best interests of humans? And why should it be accepted that the scientists are correct about human causes of global warming?
Are not scientists responsible for developing biological, chemical, nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction that have been used to control, bully, harm or destroy certain groups and places? It is not so far fetched to say that many scientific developments are amoral.
So, should world leaders turn over their moral consciences to scientists who are knowingly or unwittingly working for the ruling elite? The ruling elite have their own agenda, which is definitely not in the best interests of the people.
The carbon-trading schemes, and other emissions-based solutions presented by the ruling elite’s scientific doomsdayers, will not solve global warming climate change. But, if they get their way, they will change the lives of people for the worse. That is part of the ruling elite’s agenda.

A couple of years ago I looked at the code for NOAA's climate models(you had to apply to the priesthood to get access there too). They were no better than the Hack-O-Matic CRU stuff. Junk code full of bugs that looked like it was written by a college sophomore, completely ignorant of numerical methods, as a class project for a 2nd programming course.

150 "Fool. Their predictions that temperatures will rise again next summer are quite convincing."
I predict it will be colder. My predictions are as valid as theirs. Want to know why? Because both theirs and my data are made up.
The only difference between mine and theirs is that I admit it up front and they had to have a whistleblower\hacker expose them for the grifters they are.
You know what their "science" does? It makes their 30 years of data collection no better than my 25 seconds of "data collection".
Until they release ALL the raw data, methodology, algorithms, programs, data manipulations, and the justification the said manipulation, their "science" is no better than mine. Period.
A REAL scientist wil say the same.

151 ok I feel really stupid asking this--If we build taller smoke stacks then all is solved? It just seems silly that phd's would even make a suggestion like that. How about we put all our nuclear waste on a rocket and send it to outer space? Sounds about as bright an idea.
Posted by: kmiller1k at November 28, 2009 05:55 PM (n5ruu)
152 The very fact that they take this so personally and they are so touchy suggests something: they feel guilty. I think they know the data doesn't support their position and that the science has moved away from them but its given them acclaim, money, position, and importance that they never would have otherwise known. That's hard to give up, but they can feel it slipping away and are a wee bit testy about it.
I mean, supposedly they're worried about the warming and the horrors it will supposedly cause... yet they want more of it? Just to make their opponents look bad? If what they were predicting was true, the should welcome being wrong.

153 Phil Jones is praying for disaster on behalf of his own career.
I defy anyone, anyone to take his comment any other way.
Posted by: Zimriel at November 28, 2009 09:03 PM (IJMBR)
154 You guys are absolutely correct. A real scientist who did not have a financial interest in the outcome would certainly hope that his or her doomsday prediction was wrong and would let every Tom Dick or Harry have a go at their method. But . . .

155 ok I feel really stupid asking this--If we build taller smoke stacks
then all is solved? It just seems silly that phd's would even make a
suggestion like that.
Why? If you already have an effect from a technology (ie coal) that is known to be beneficial in a peculiar way, why wouldn't you want to maximize its effect at minimal cost compared to other proposals? (if indeed there really is a problem)
Coal may be "bad" for other reasons, but if its SO2 contribution overcomes its CO2 contribution, then for the duration that you're stuck with coal as a solution (think 20-30 year time frames), it makes perfect sense to optimize it.

Thanks for the reply PA. I just was being facetious about building taller (and taller and taller) smoke stacks. It just seems silly to think we could build them tall enough to make a difference.
