Happy Thanksgiving!

Pirate_Boy_319x418.jpg

Bellies full and crowded by kin, I hope.

I'd like to thank everyone for making this site what it is. I often kind of hate my job, until I realize what a kind of bizarrely awesome job it is. And I have all of you to thank for that. Especially those that hit the tip jar, and basically keep a roof over my head. And all the commenters, generally acknowledged to be (I hear this all the time from other bloggers) the sharpest and funniest on the 'net.

Thank you all.

34 Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1986

For John Dillinger. In hope he is still alive.

Thanks for the wild turkey and the Passenger Pigeons, destined to be shit out through wholesome American guts. Thanks for a Continent to despoil and poison. Thanks for Indians to provide a modicum of challenge and danger. Thanks for vast herds of bison to kill and skin, leaving the carcass to rot. Thanks for bounties on wolves and coyotes.

Thanks for the AMERICAN DREAM to vulgarize and falsify until the bare lies shine through. Thanks for the KKK, for ni**er-killing lawmen feeling their notches, for decent church-going women with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces.

Thanks for "Kill a Queer for Christ" stickers. Thanks for laboratory AIDS. Thanks for Prohibition and the War Against Drugs. Thanks for a country where nobody is allowed to mind his own business. Thanks for a nation of finks -- yes,
thanks for all the memories...  all right, let's see your arms... you always were a headache and you always were a bore.

Thanks for the last and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams.

37 Happy Thanksgiving all!

As I wrote at BigGov, Thank God - that is, Hashem, YHWH, the Creator,  for discernment and truth.  May He continue to bless us with both, and with the wisdom to use them effectively to figuratively curbstomp the deceivers, liars, and progeny of the devil who surround us.

God bless you all, and go easy on the Val-U-Rite.

47 I'm thankful to live in a country where the worst thing a crazed misanthropic asshole can think of that we did was to mess up a bunch of buffalo.

Imagine the Judgement of Nations after the ending of the world:

"Russia?"
"Well, I murdered 30 million of my own people, and spread an ideology which fanned wars around the globe."

"Iran?"
"I bankrolled terrorist murderers for decades, crushed gay people under brick walls, executed women for showing their faces, and plotted to exterminate the inhabitants of Israel."

"America?"
"I messed up some buffalo and didn't even eat them."

Posted by: toby928 at November 26, 2009 10:40 PM (PD1tk)

73 My Thanksgiving dinner for orphans, misfits and stranded foreigners turned out far better than I had feared. All the side dishes were cooked and set aside for reheating and the turkey was in the oven before noon when the kids returned from the parade. Sally, a gregarious Welsh lass, made a point of drawing everybody out while they spectated, so they all knew one another better than I knew any of them and even the painfully bashful Yu Lo was speaking full sentences loudly enough to be heard. Pritee played three songs on my guitar (quite well) and everyone sang along (not quite so well).  We watched the tail end of a dog show and snatches of football game. Young Ronnie was able to explain both the dog judging and American football. He also observed that the eight black T-shirts and five pairs of khakis on my shelf are arranged in order of fadedness. I perhaps need to broaden my wardrove choices a bit.

We drank, talked, got hungry and had a fine feast at 4, The gravy was the only element ever in doubt and a surreptitious can of Campbell's made it thicken up properly. I wisely made too little of everything, leaving very little leftovers after everyone took a dish of turkey for sandwiches back to the dorm. Hosting tip: Slices of bread in a sandwich baggy and foil packets of condiments make the doggy bag complete.

Two handsome and noble brothers took leave from their parents in Queens for a few hours to share dessert, flirt with our women and get the inebriated underclassmen safely back to their dorms. As a bonus to me, they offered to give a lavishly embellished report of the festivities to the bitch who maligned my guests on Monday.

Lesson of the day? There's no point looking for holiday spirit out there, You need to make your own.
