Gallup: 48-44

The lowest approval for Obama yet on Gallup, and the highest disapproval, and so of course the narrowest margin between them.

SNL, as Jimbo posted below, finally finds something funny about this president. That's what happens, I guess, when a president sinks to 48-44.

1 What's the rule with Gallup regarding Obama?

Subtract at least 5 from the first number and add it to the second?

When Obama's rating reaches 51% disapproval, and it will soon, he will officially be unpopular.

After 1/20/2010, after one year of failure and excuses, Obama will be an unpopular president. The grace period will be over. The 'historic' bullshit will be over. The experiment will be over.

24 Seriously, why is this important  (other than pure schadenfreude)?

So Obama is marginally below 50%?  All US presidents fall in popularity their first year, and there is plenty of time for Obama to rebound before he has to run for re-election.

He could be at 5% popularity, and that still won't stop him from screwing up our economy and foreign policy.

Yep. Nothing will stop The Precedent from working to take the US down. Falling poll numbers will just push him to become more shrill and push more retarded policies and executive decisions. This is a fight for the very life and soul of America and polls will have nothing to do with it.

We've all seen how no embarrassment, no gaffe, no idiotic mistake stops this Precedent from pushing his insanity on the nation. This is the guy who said "profit and earnings ratios" (proving that he is so dumb as to be beyond words) but that didn't stop him from lecturing to us about finance and economics.

We are well through the looking glass. Polls can be nice, but they are meaningless in the face of this onslaught on America. Look at howw these slime have just totally disregarded the Tea Parties, Town Halls, 9/12 rally ... We have political suicide bombers running Washington and they are going to take as much of America down with them as they are able.

The important votes to install it have happened.  You know that the House passed it.  The Senate voted to start debate-- and now, Harry Reid only need 50 + the VP to pass that half into law.  There are two parliamentary votes which require 60, but they have those, as shown by Saturday night's vote.

They win.  We lose.  It's over.  All there is now is to get UncleFacts on the horn with his meteor delivery service.

That is exactly how I read it, Blazer.  She is saying that Obama is not showing concern for people. Maureen Dowd is a mediocre writer and a terrible political analyst but she is a perfect barometer for the thinking of the wine and brie set.  Obama may get some healthcare bill passed, but he hasn't sold it and the minute it passes (even more, the minute the taxes start getting assessed) people will be royally pissed.

The Dowdites knew that Obama was a Marxist radical and they were cool with him masking it, figuring that he was a good enough actor to keep it in check.  They were also hoping that there wouldn't be unemployment or other economic numbers that would witness his failed policies so quickly.

With Gallup no longer able to hold back the poll numbers and SNL openly mocking him, the cascade begins.  How long it takes and how much it derails, nobody knows.  They may think they can implement healthcare and lock it in, they may think that 2010 is a small price to pay.

But every US president is a story and Obama's will be a cautionary tale. I don't know that liberalism/socialism will ever be the same.  They've made a lot of progress by employing Trojan horses.

I also want to point out that, of all of the creeping federal programs, the libs have never tried it all at once like this.  Every other program was implemented as a small innocent-looking program.  And it grew and grew.

"Like Reagan, Obama is a detached loner with a strong, savvy wife. But unlike Reagan, he doesn’t have the acting skills to project concern about what’s happening to people."

So you're saying there should be a new thread with the screamin headline "Mo Do - Obama is a detached loner!!!!"

Both Reagan and Clinton were much smarter than Obama.  Reagan and Clinton knew that the success of their presidencies hinged on their ability to navigate out of tough domestic economic times.  In addition, neither man displayed the lack of class that Obama and his team have shown us by blaming everything on his predecessor.

Both former presidents worked with their congresses to deliver policy change that resulted in strong and sustained economic recovery.  Our current president has chosen to squander his considerable political and economic capital by leveraging the financial crisis to pass an $800 billion stimulus bill (among other clunkers) to pay back his political cronies (unions, special interest groups) with reckless and shameless spending.

We have a president with an overrated intellect and an underperforming work ethic.  If talking was accomplishment, he'd be a man of substance.  It's obvious he's never worked a real job in his life or he would know that a lack of performance inevitably leads to dismissal.  He will learn the hard way in 2012.

House and Senate Democrats will learn this lesson next November.

One last thought -- Ms. Dowd and many of her peers are in deep denial about the state of President Obama's first year in office.  They have no real power to cover for him anymore as the polls effectively bear witness that all but the diehard supporters have President Obama and his team figured out as woefully inadequate to govern.  If they truly cared about this man, they would report the facts and uncover the truth as to what is really occurring in our government.  Sadly, it is Ms. Dowd and the media that are delivering the knockout punch to President Obama.  How sad for all of us.

93 This is HISTORIC ...  the first time in history that a half black president has fallen below 50% approval.

Historic ... first time in history a half black president has screwed up so many things so quickly .. though that might hold even counting all presidents.

First time so many declared communists/Marxists have worked directly for the president ...

..

Adjusting for Gallup bias in sampling ... and adding in all the people afraid to say they disapprove of a black man ... and the official adjusted total is 36% approval, 60% disapprove.

Has to be 46 around October of 2012. Reagan was at 38 once in 1981. The difference, however, was that Reagan had a feel for the issues that Americans cared about and could still connect with them on those issues. Here, Obama has not only started to squander his personal popularity but his advantages on who can better handle issue x matters as well. Reagan still dominated a few of those even when he was at 38. That is the difference.

In my opinion, when someone like Stewart, Letterman, Huffposters, and liberals in general make comments about Palin such as they do, they are really criticizing the American public in general.  She is down to earth and they see that as having no intellect.  She didn't graduate Ivy and they consider that as having no education at all.  She speaks in a straight forward manner and that makes her a snowbilly.  Their contempt for her is their contempt for the rest of us.  They are our betters.

Polls only matter to them if they show a liberal in a positive light and a conservative in a bad one. Dum-Dum used to come here and remind us of that all the time. Last summer he told us Rasmussen was controlled by a bunch of hard right neo-cons and that Gallup was the true non-partisan outfit after ace had a post up showing Barry taking a decline. Then a couple of days lighter when Gallup had Barry down and Rasmussen showed a slight bounce he shifted his opinion to the exact opposite without ever recognizing the sheer irony of it.

About as likely as that 500 billion being cut from medicare to fund Obama care. Which is the little dirty lie that no one talks about with all the CBO scoring non-sense. CBO is told that the cuts will happen, so CBO is required to score the bill as if the cuts will take place. However, the cuts are not made in the package that, if it passes, constitutes Obamacare. The cuts take place in the budget resolution. Thus, you can claim you are going to cut 500 billion from medicare in passing the legislation and then turn around and avoid the cuts all together.

Meanwhile, after that happens, the President of China calls the White House and ask "Do I look like Mrs. Obama?"

I still don't understand how the CBO can score any of these cuts, at all, since they are totally unspecified and with no rational backing. Reid could have just written 800 billion in cuts ("slashing waste") instead and the CBO can't tell the difference, since the cuts are just 'verbal promises to cut' (as you point out).

I find it odd that CBO's rules would even allow them to take such ephemeral 'future cuts' into account.

Under federal regulation, the CBO must assume that Congress will do what Congress says it must do. Therefore, you are correct, Reid could say, "reduce medicare expeditures by 800 billion by reducing fraud" and CBO would score it with the 800 billion reducition. Its financial b.s..

I've heard though, that the Bush twins were quite nasty - and that from a few sources.

I have no false image that the Bush twins are a couple of pristine puritans. On the otherhand, I also can't imagine that anything the Bush twins did in their early 20s was worse than anything 90% of the people in the media or on this blog have done in their 20s. Yet, when one of the them got busted for using a fake id to buy booze, it was significantly overblown. Comedy Central did a skit show entitled "That's My Bush" where one of the jokes implied that the Bush Twins were incestous lesbians (the joke got pulled - mercifully). Letterman was brutal.

The point: all we here from the media is "politician's children should be left alone." What they mean: "liberal politician's children should be left alone - conservative children need to be run through the grinder". Either practice what your preach or STFU.

The MSM sent a planeload of reporters and the Democrats sent a planeload of lawyers to Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin while not one was sent to Chicago. They even tried to have the Palins close friends divorce records unsealed, which was the tactic that pretty much got Obama where he is right now.

At the same time, the L.A. Times was refusing to release the tape of Obama at a C.A.I.R. dinner because supposedly it was very damning and the N.Y.T. was refusing to run a story about Obama's campaign donations and its ties to ACORN because it was a game changer.

The msm refused to look into obama's school transcripts, college thesis' and his birth certificate at the same time the Dems in Washington were trying to find a way to disqualify McCain because he was born on a naval base in Panama

Its not what little about this man I know that scares me, its the stuff I don't know that does. And I'll bet there is a lot of it.

Yea - the fact that Moveon is running ads against Democratic Congresspeople is fascinating. However, the media has failed to notice this. They only want to talk about the civil war in the Republican party, citing to NY-23. What these idiots don't get, NY-23 was a fluke because there was no primary. Had there been a primary, Hoffman would probably had won and there would be no talk about "civil war". But, as we have established the media is a clueless bunch.
