The trick here is a little subtle and hard to see from a distance.
What happens is that the quarterback turns back and to the right, as if he's pitching or rolling out in that direction. But he then tosses the ball over his head, backwards and to the left.
I wonder if this can be duplicated or if it's a one-off. The idea seems sound -- the defense moves in the direction the play seems to be going. If you throw the ball backwards over your head (without looking -- a timing play) they're not really going to be ready to make that interception.
I'd like to see the NY Giants try this. We can't score in the red zone, and Eli Manning tends to throw interceptions when he's aiming and looking at his receiver, so...
Thanks to Larissa.

Is this what passes for a football thread at HQ these days?
No thread during the Colts-Pats game, but we get this? Ideological purity sure comes with a heavy price tag.

My favorite play is the direct snap to the RB while the QB is walking over to the tightend and appearing to be changing the play. Our HS team used to run that.

Any variant of the Statue of Liberty is awesome. But, as a running purist...
Why not just run the option?

I guess you can throw a two handed pass. Just as long as it goes over the line of scrimmage. Then it could be called a fumble if it doesn't.

That looks like a one in a million type of play. The timing must be damn near perfect, and if one defensive back sniffs something funny, he'll blow up the play. Still, kudos to the coach for having the ingenuity and balls to pull it off.

I find it somehow satisfying that Jintsfan is as unhappy with Eli as we are with Romo.
And remember Ace, it could be worse; it could be the Redskins (take that *pow*)

Can we get a thread to bitch about how awful Stargate Universe is, AND how the new episode apperently just leaves the old episode hanging and doesn't resolve anything at all... just picks up like nothing happened at all?
According to the available information, at least.

That's real football. Manly men aren't ascared to take chances
Hey, I'm as big a fan of gutsy calls and trick plays as anyone. But one has to be smart when making those calls. A trick play that blows up in a team's faces is a huge momentum swinger; one that blows up at the goal line and snuffs a scoring opportunity can kill a team's will to win.

That these guys pulled it off was totally due to luck. That ball floated long enough that a more well-positioned defender might have had a chance to intercept.

As an O and D-line coach, I hate gadget plays. Too much downside. This one is definitely a one-off if the defense is playing assignment football. In fact, some of the defenses I've coached would have taken this the other way for six.
