Purge: CNN Pays Lou Dobbs Eight Million to Go Away

Ideological purification. But the expensive kind.

CNN was so sick of Lou Dobbs, it gave him an $8 million severance package to leave, The Post has learned.

"They wanted him out," according to a source.

Dobbs, who a source said had a year and a half to go on his $12 million contract, shocked viewers last Wednesday by announcing he was quitting.

CNN boss Jonathan Klein and Dobbs, 64, had been publicly feuding over the kind of reporting Dobbs was doing on his show -- especially stories about illegal immigration and the anti-Obama "birther" movement, which contends the president was not born in Hawaii and is not an American citizen.

But it was not clear until now that CNN was willing to pay Dobbs so much money to leave.

"What they do is their business," Dobbs said yesterday. "I tried to accommodate them as best I could, but I've said for many years now that neutrality is not part of my being."

Klein long believed Dobbs was at odds with CNN's desire to position itself as an opinion-free, middle-of-the-road alternative to its cable news rivals -- conservative Fox News and liberal MSNBC.

Uh-huh. Opinion free. As Anderson Cooper makes cutesy jokes about "teabaggers." Say, that Jack Cafferty is pretty opinion-free too, isn't he?

I'm seeing this bs in every article about Dobbs and CNN's rating woes.  Are people being paid to say this?

5 CNN, now with less opinions?  (Now that Dobbs is done).  So they are slowly reaching their goal of being "opinion free" being as they share one common state fed opinion:  "Obama is great!  Let us thank him for our food.  By his hand we're gently led, Thank him for our daily bread, and state mandated health care, and possible state run commuter rails, and state run car companies, and state run banks, etc., etc., etc.  In Barack's name, Amen."

So, I guess, in addition to Jack Cafferty, CNN will soon be telling Candy Crowley and Roland Martin to get the hell out of dodge.

And isn't this the same network that let that moron D.J. Hugley have his own show for awhile?

Neutral - yea.

I guess LaRaza/ACORN/SEIU (in otherwords, our tax money) is greasing their wheels now.

14 There's no non-compete clause as part of his buyout, so I can see Fox signing him if he wants to go there.

He's certainly not going to be welcome at MSNBC if he was too conservative for CNN.

Slightly off topic but anyhow:

Whenever I hear "XYZName signs/gets paid an X million dollar bonus" I doubt if most people realize he gets less than half.

Whether sports or media the agents get 10-20%, then Feds at least 40%, then state taxes. If in NY or CA the person probably only nets 1/3 of the bonus.

Same thing when an exec exercises stock options - it is all ordinary income taxed at full rates not capital gains.

77 CNN boss Jonathan Klein and Dobbs, 64, had been publicly feuding over the kind of reporting Dobbs was doing on his show -- especially stories about illegal immigration and the anti-Obama "birther" movement,

Klein was especially ticked off that the reason he told Dobbs to back off of the birth certificate story (Dobbs couldn't even get the whole eligibility issue correct, but only touched on the birth certificate) was because CNN had already "investigated" it and determined that all paperwork had been destroyed when Hawaii transferred the records to digital (a claim that Hawaii immediately contradicted in public). In a normal world, such a news director would have been immediately fired, as intentionally passing bad information to spike a story is sort of a no-no in the journalism business (at least, if that idiocy makes it into the public arena).

It's funny how such a blatant lie by a news director in order to get someone off of a story hasn't made much news ... But, that is the world we inhabit, these days.

They are more for illegal aliens being forced to pay union dues (illegally employed or legalized). The trade of Shamnesty for Card Check is an easy one for the unions - the original terrorists. The unions are also seeing their influence in the monetary system increase dramatically (though they already had an insanely ridiculous amount of forced representation in the Federal Reserve that no thinking person should have ever allowed).

Good question.

Where are the unions on illegal aliens driving down wages for union workers?

There was a time when unions were actually (1) patriotic and (2) understanding of economics at least to the point of restricting supply of grunt labor. Remember when hard-hats beat up hippies, or when then AFL-CIO boss George Meany (cool name, you gotta admit) fought against Nixon's attempts to impose wage and price controls? (WOW, it's freaky to think there was a time when even the GOP took that shit seriously to the point of a political role reversal).

But the Unions of today? Communist leftovers infiltrated. The Piven-Cloward acolytes are at work. It is all about importing a larger proletariat to lead now. If it ends up in the disuniting of America and Reconquista traitors, so much the better for the Commiecrats.

 71/Alexthechick:

I think they were fiddling with the dates to change the strike price. Options exercises are ordinary income regardless of the award date.

Example:

The company gives you an incentive plan award of 10,000 options at the average of today's open & close prices vesting in 3 years and expiring in 10 yrs. Say that today when the market closes the open/close average is $50 which sets the strike price.

Six years from now the stock is at $80 and you exercise the options. The $300,000 gain ((10,000 X ($80 - $50)) is all ordinary income even though you had the options for 6 years.

Backdating the award date to get a more favorable strike price may be what Apple got slapped for.

Etopbags    Gucci Baby Carrier   Gucci Designer Diaper Bag

In the upscale world of high fashion, replica bags are the quintessential items to own. Let's face it, no one is admiring your hair in 2008; they don't care about your dress either. All of the focus is on that little replica bag you carry around. Such a small item can make the largest statement imaginable. The day of the overpriced Louis Vuitton handbag is history! Welcome to Buy High Replica, the only place on the planet to purchase replica handbags and replica purses at amazingly low prices. You won't lose quality by purchasing imitation goods, you'll just save money. Our replica Miumiu handbags and Gucci handbags are so brilliantly constructed, not even the chanel handbags can tell the difference.

thanks Vic, I did not know that...I guess thats why Delta has CNN at every Delta terminal.

Which brings up another salient point.  How many people are truly watching CNN?  I'm sure their ratings include all the "captive" viewers.  You know, people that are "forced" to watch it (and who often aren't even watching it) as it is the channel de facto in every airport terminal and hospital waiting room.  It's just like USA Today having an articficially high circulation because it's the newspaper that's given out free at most hotels.

Posted by: Huckleberry at November 16, 2009 01:06 PM (s2bW4)

I don't know the particulars with Jobs' options, but companies have been arbitrarily changing the strikes on bonus options for years - usually done for companies that have sucked air in the market to render the options worthless. Boards have just reduced the strikes in many of those cases, to manufacture the "appropriate" profit, and I have never heard of any legal challenge to them upheld.

For what it's worth, Jobs is one of the worst people in business and Apple was the most selfish, greedy, power-hungry computer company that existed. People give Microsoft grief for grabbing the OS market, but Apple held tightly onto both the hardware and software market and forced its customers to buy overpriced Apple products. When the iPhone came out and was locked to a network, that was just typical Apple. If Apple had been half as successful as Microsoft, they would have destroyed the computer industry.

But, typical of the left to love the authoritarians.

There's bias and there's propaganda. Anyone using the word teabaggers pretty reliably falls into the latter category.

But there's a little bit of both mixed in. You have your outright propagandists and then you have your useful idiots who are so cocooned up in their newsroom culture that they actually BELIEVE that their reporting is unbiased.

From WaPo, Nov. 20, 2008

Argentina's Senate on Thursday night gave final approval to the government's plan to nationalize the private pension system in an attempt to protect retirement investments from the international financial crisis.

The proposal by President Cristina Fern醤dez de Kirchner last month to nationalize about $25 billion in private pension funds provoked an outburst of criticism that the government was seizing retirement savings for cash to shore up its finances. But after 12 hours of deliberation Thursday, Fern醤dez de Kirchner's plan was approved 46 to 18 by senators who argued that the private pension system never served the country well.
