Story posted on the AP wire here. NEW YORK -- Federal prosecutors Thursday took steps to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government. In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets of the Alavi Foundation and an alleged front company. The assets include Islamic centers in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston, more than 100 acres in Virginia, and a 36-story office tower in New York. When I mentioned hate crime @17, I meant the Feds were commiting it of course by profiling muslims. Any explosives found were to get the hemeroids off grandma's ass, not to blow stuff up. You, Sir, are racist for thinking they would be used in any other way. Islam is incapable of hate crimes according to our liberal overlords, cause only white people can hate. Barry, Nance, and Harry told me so.

Wait. This is from AP. Are these guys still legit? I'm guessing that there is no additional details because there is no way they can spin it positively for the mosques involved so they decide to gently acknowledge the raids, but don't want to do anything further until they can get some mitigating information, like ePPTSD (emphatic pre-post traumatic stress disorder)--they felt Hasan's pain at Ft Hood so they now have his pre-deployment PTSD. @37 I have my doubts as AP would be trumpeting that to make Obama look like a hard ass. Obama actually standing up to one of America's enemies? That would be shocking. My guess is still a Fed agency found something and working independently of the White House (White House would be involved if they were using it as leverage). Obama has invested too much of himself as a talker and butt kisser to our overseas adversaries. If Iran whines, I'm sure he'll bend over and take it up the keister. Now if those had been churches and a skyscraper owned by folks opposed to health care, I could see him using those tactics.

Posted by: GrimJack at November 12, 2009 05:54 PM (iTA1p) Check the AP article linked @9 above. It's the article that goes with the headline. The Feds seized the assets of the Ahlavi Foundation, a front company for the Iranian government. And you're right, it's nothing to do with how Obama looks, it's because it's illegal for the Iranian government to use a non-profit as a front group in that way. It just so happens that it comes right on the heels of the Iranians charging those three dumbasses with espionage for hiking too close to the Iranian border. Missed your post at #9. Still, there's a good chance there's some "other stuff" involved with the seizures if it is run by Iran. They don't mean us well and in our current envirornment, mosques and Islamic schools would provide awesome cover for covert stuff. Any investigation would result in cries of profiling. I am going to bet that Iran will call Barry up and tell him to stop dicking with them and he will meekly comply because after all, they aren't standing in the way of healthcare reform and they aren't appearing on fox.

Hrm. Why now?
It's obvious the Feds have known (or suspected) that these were Iranian fronts for some time -- we were probably gathering intel from them for awhile. So why blow the lid off now? A. The Iranians were about to do something, and we wanted to send them a non-military sort of warning not to do it. B. Our intel source was burned, forcing our hand. C. This was a bone thrown to Israel to show that we're "serious" about Iran. D. Our intel showed that an op was about to go down in NYC, and we burned them before they could burn us. It could be more than one thing, obviously. Posted by: Monty at November 12, 2009 06:24 PM (nTxjg) 68

I'm sure defending Muslims makes Liberals rather schizophrenic. They are all gung ho on extreme "freedoms" for everyone and no religion at all. But here is the religion of Islam which forbids eating of many foods, drinking, sex out of wedlock, girls going to school, women working, women appearing in public with an inch of their bodies revealed, women speaking in public, women speaking to any man not their relative, etc, etc. Poor, poor muddled Liberals. I'd sure hate to have their jobs (rationalizing anything politically correct).
