Former President and First Lady George and Laura Bush Go to Ft. Hood

Uncle Jimbo mentioned this in his earlier post, and I missed it this weekend. The story linked says the news broke yesterday, I can tell you I'm pretty close to Hood, with some personal and professional ties to the base, and I didn't hear a whisper of it. Or better said (not that I would hear about it), there was no info about it locally, it was kept under wraps. No publicity.

Last night former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura made a secret visit to the devastated military families at Fort Hood.

The Bushes instructed the commander of the mourning military base that they wanted no publicity. With their Secret Service detail, Bush and his wife made the 30 mile trip unannounced from their ranch near Crawford, Texas Friday evening.

Fox News broke news of the visit this afternoon. Other sources said the former first couple spent about two hours meeting with the wounded, family and soldiers, talking quietly and at times hugging them as they did in private at other times of crisis such as post-9/11.

I don't have anything to add really, except to thank them for doing something noteworthy and commendable, something that could not have been easy to do.

Thanks to them both. I am very sure it meant a lot to the soldiers and their families.

Not the leftist/media hatred surrounding him, but the man himself. Although I didn't agree with some of his decisions, no one can doubt his love of this country, and his sincerity.

Speaks volumes about what we had and what we have now as far as president and first lady. I recall when Barry refused to meet the hospitalized troops in Germany back during the election when he was told his press detail wouldn't be allowed in. He threw a tizzy because a juicy fake patriotic photo-op meant more to him than someone who was wounded sacrificing life & limb for their country.

18 I was thinking to myself the other night that the Bushes should go there and spend some time with the wounded as I thought that would have greater meaning than a visit from the won. Lo and behold, last night I was looking at news briefs and saw that that was exactly what they did. No press, no cameras, just a heartfelt visit. I had disagreements with many things he did throughout his presidency but I never doubted his sincerity or love of this country for one second as opposed to the idiot the 52% voted in last November.

The carnage at the Fort Hood military base, where a Muslim army doctor is accused of killing 13 people in a shooting spree, was a ticking time-bomb that could explode again, observers said.

"There's a lot more of this out there, potentially. Anyone coming back from war with PTSD could do the same thing," said Matthis Chiroux,a former US Army sergeant who refused to go to Iraq.

It has been clearly demonstrated that both the Executive and Legislative branches of government are incapable of protecting American citizens from enemies both foreign and domestic.

If America is attacked by another Muslim terrorist, the citizens of this country will be obligated to protect the children, the infirm, and the elderly from this menace.  This could get very ugly before we get it under control.

It's my belief that the reason for General Casey's concern is both for political correctness, and his knowledge that if we are provoked enough, America will respond with a ferocity never before seen, and there isn't a damn thing that can be done to stop it.  Thousands of armed citizen soldiers answering the call to duty and eliminating the threat.  And eliminate it we will.

For all of Bush's faults in kowtowing to the Libtards on domestic policy, it's times and quiet instances like this that make me realize what a great president he was. History will vindicate him. I'm already throwing up a little in my mouth waiting for Obama, after his panicky advisors get ahold of him at Camp David this weekend, to try and muster up the fake teleprompter-fed emotion for his mandatory appearance at the memorial service Tuesday. I wonder if 4 days is enough time him to conjure up the appropriate amount of sympathy for a display of emotion that, I have no doubt, he'll still manage to make "all about him" yet again. Sad days for our country. Sad days.

I liked the gesture, because I liked Reagan- when I see whatsisface do it, it plainly comes off as insincere at best

I want to give my thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of those brave men and women that lost their lives and to the wounded for a fast recovery. I am so thankful to those that risk and give their lives for our very freedom.
Absolutely did not surprise me to see that President Bush and Lady Laura went to Ft. Hood to see the wounded troops and their families because that is how thoughtful and caring they are...he loved his people. Obama was busy this weekend with his own agenda... how he has treated this terroristic tragedy is an insult to the fallen, their families, and every true American. To the families of the fallen and wounded I'm so very sorry...and Thank You..and thank you to all the heroic men and women that serve this nation.

The Bush's are classy enough to know it's not about them.

If and when King Barry goes, the DemSM will be well notified, the base will have to make first class accommodations for Barry and Worf, their valets and entourages, official photographers, etc.

They'll stay for all of 10 minutes while King Barry reads a canned statement from a teleprompter and the appropriate photos are taken. Then out of that cow town to make a fundraising dinner in Beverly Hills.

I fully expect the current Present to put AG Eric Holder front and center to make sure that the rights of the alleged attacker are protected, and furthermore, to determine whether the alleged attacker's civil rights were violated when the responding officers recklessly and insensitively opened fire without first trying to determine the nature of the disturbance

I too had a lump in my throat when I heard this news about the Bushes visiting the troops at Ft. Hood.  Whatever I thought of Bush, never once in my mind did I think he didn't love America and understood what an exceptionalism and unique country it is.  Sad to say, I actually think Obama loaths what this is country is all about, he certainly has very little regard or respect for the military.

"Fundamentally flawed", these were the fraud's words of the US constitution, he wants us to believe he will defend a piece of document [and its ideals] that so many have died for that he believes is "fundamentally flawed".

Now on to 60 minutes doing a piece that will of course support the case for Net Neutrality.  Just like Jon Stewart has magically fallen in line, as has SNL.  Amazing how it all just happens like dominoes, ain't it?

131 According to the man Obama took his kids wife and self to church for, for 20 fucking years, these murders were 100% justified...  our chickens coming home to roost.

Obama is a good enough politician to keep this to himself, but we can clearly see that he agrees, in his actions.  100% of his response to this massacre is to defend jihadists and muslims (many of whom aren't the problem, of course, but this is a banal observation, since no one has attacked any muslims at Ft Hood).  He isn't fighting in Afghanistan... can't even be bothered to make a decision until his health care bill is passed.  He isn't concerned with Iran or Iraq.  He doesn't honestly give a shit about the shooting, aside from damage control for his embarassing 'shout out' to fake medal of honor winner and massive democrat buddy, Chief douchechief.

Obama thinks that we need to bow to Islam, apologize more profusely than ever, and then, once Islam is respected enough, they might stop killing our people.  He thinks that Nidal had a great point, in fact, that America has somehow done something horrible, and deserving of violence.

Obama thinks the best place for his kids in in front of a preacher who thinks 9/11 was a great thing.

139 Slightly OT, stolen from Hot Air, and written by David Frum:

"Palin supporters have constructed an alternative reality in which their heroine is wildly cheered by the American yeomanry, and despised only by a small coterie of sherry-drinking snobs. No contrary evidence, no matter how overwhelming and uncontradicted, can alter this view: not the collapse in Palin’s support in just 5 weeks in 2008, not the statistical studies that show her as the only vice presidential nominee in ticket to have hurt her ticket, not her rampant unpopularity with American women, not her own flinching from a second encounter with the Alaskan electorate.

In this regard, Continentti’s comparison of Palin to William Jennings Bryan begins to look not only apt, but ominous."

from what I remember, walter reed does not allow press, so its not like the fraud had a choice.   Like the Dover picture, he had a choice to bring press or not, and even if the one family allowed press, why he want HIS picture taken saluting?  its should have been solely the slain soldier who should have been the main picture, that is the story, not that twit showing us he can finally salute!

Its all about him, always.

182 From the Daily Mail:

The lightly-built police heroine who is credited with halting the Fort Hood massacre almost died at the scene after losing half the blood in her body.

Mother of one Sergeant Kimberley Munley confronted gunman Nidal Malik Hasan and, despite being wounded in both legs, brought him down with four shots.

One of the shots cut an artery in her leg, leaving blood pumping out but she still managed to keep firing before collapsing.

Heroine: Kim Munley, a civilian police officer, is the woman who brought Hasan down by shooting him four times before he could slaughter more people.

Medic Francisco Delaserna applied a tourniquet to Sgt Munley as she drifted in and out of consciousness because of blood loss.

'I cut her trousers open, tied a tourniquet around her thigh and stopped the bleeding. But she had already lost a lot of blood,' he said.

Ronald Reagan was a man; Jimmy Carter is a toad. George H. W. Bush is a man; Bill Clinton is a man-child. George W. Bush is a man; Barack Obama is a boy. Sensing a pattern here?

I'm very grateful for George and Laura Bush and would have expected no less from them. I'm sure the folks at Ft. Hood were grateful as well just as I'm sure the Bush's were honored to be there. May they all have taken comfort.

Having Reagan on the $10 bill would somehow be "too much." Having this stinking piece of shit deified with a national holiday is a foregone conclusion.

This presupposes that I intend to step down. Keep clinging to your God and guns, little man. Hahaha.

Holy Crap:

Professor Agha Saeed of the American Muslim Task Force (AMT) spoke of the aftermath of 9/11 and the struggle of the Muslim Community against the pervasive atmosphere of Islamophobia and hatred. It was a struggle against the tide - a very strong tide - to prevent Muslims in America from being marginalized and silenced.

Professor Saeed ....issued five demands from Muslims to the Department of Justice. These demands included a cessation to the infiltration by spies of mosques and an end to the introduction of agents provocateur. In addition there was to be a cessation of attempts to undermine Muslim groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

This is where Alikhan spoke? He was comfortable with this terror talk?

Why Alikhan? DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano noted Alikhan’s “broad and impressive array of experience in national security, emergency preparedness and counterterrorism.” I am not sure what she is talking about (neither is she, I am sure.)

I am an ex-leftist. I was never a socialist, I was just a naive pacifist, way into Gandhian non-violence, etc. (Now, of course, I understand that Gandhi's tactics worked because his enemy was the Brits, for goodness' sake, not the Nazis or the Khmer Rouge or Hezbollah!) Anyhow, as relatively innocuous as I was, I believed the U.S. was responsible for 90% of the evil in the world, and I HATED the U.S. military.

What I'm trying to say is that if even a Pax Christi peacenik like me could have such strong and hostile feelings, you probably need to multiply that by several orders of magnitude to approximate the level of rage and spite in the heart and mind of a screwed-up, biracial abandoned-child-with-daddy-issues who spent his youth and adulthood hanging around anti-Semitic, Communist, Black Nationalist, Muslim-loving, bomb-planting, America-hating radicals.....

I didn't agree with George Bush on a number of things, even though I'm a Republican conservative. However, I never had anything but respect for the man as a man and I think he was and is a good husband, father, and member of his community. I would have been proud to shake his hand as the man who restored dignity to the office of President of the United States after the libertine clown trashed it.

Now we've got an actual traitor in office. I have no doubt this bastard (yes, that's what he is) hates America with a passion and wants to see it brought to its knees. He's also a virulent racist and wants to hurt whites in any way he can. The media fog shielded him during the election and he got elected with the public knowing less about this man than any other modern American president.

Now the fog is blowing away. People are seeing him for what he is. I've seen a lot of people write that they are damned sorry they were part of the 52% last November. There will be more before he's gone--lots more.

The event I'm most afraid about is this bastard getting assassinated. If he lives to complete his term, which I most sincerely hope he does, he'll be the most reviled politician in American history. He'll be the next Marion Barry. Given that he'll be a millstone around the left's neck for the next 20 years, and that in his last two years of office he's almost certain to be Level 3 toxic to any Dem pol, I'm wondering when they start to think he's better help to them dead than alive. Don't give me any grief that "they wouldn't do that." It's not at all unlikely, especially if they could find a way to pin it on someone who appears to be a white racist.

I recently read something from a former leftist that made very good sense. He wrote, "You conservatives generally don't lie and don't hate. When you do, you're not very good at it. On the left, we do both all the time, and practice makes perfect. Since we know you don't fight that way, we always do because we know you don't know those tactics well. Consequently, you're always fighting on our ground. That's why we win all the close ones." Remember it was a leftie that killed JFK.

Last month I left the house of a man I've known for twenty years. I always thought of him as a friend, even if too far to the left. This time when I left, I realized I would never go back because I just can't get past the idiocy of his politics. If he's so damned stupid as to believe the constant lying of the left, he's too damned stupid for me to associate with. I find myself thinking more and more often in that vein. If you're on the left, I'll have no dealings of any sort with you. End of story.

227 Former President and First Lady G.W. Bush did the right thing by going under wraps to Ft. Hood. Unlike President and First Lady Obama who likes their photo ops and fanfare at every opportunity they can find.

G. W. Bush was not that great of President when it comes to growing the government. And don't forget the Patriot Act. But when it comes to compassion and caring for others besides himself he wins every time.

The last true, real president we had was way back in the 80's... Ronald Reagan.

231 I never had that much issue w/W saluting his troops, regardless of CinC status, as he was a former military (even if he was an Air Farce puke--tee hee, interservice rivalry will never die), and even now, 9 years after I left, I still give unconscious salutes to people I respect--even though it is technically only a courtesy.

Because, really, if you give it properly, (and I very much doubt that the current CinC has a clue to what that is,) you can hear/feel a bam when it goes up and a snap when it goes down.  And both giver and receiver feel, even if just a little, some esprit de corps, from one warrior to another.

252 I think it very noble of the Bushes going to Fort Hood to meet with the wounded and their families and the families of those who died during the attack. I have always had faith in the Bushes when it comes to people. They have a sensitive side and it comes out and they don't hide it like tears, hugs, etc. when something happens here in the USA. I can't say that for our present President at all, infact I can't find myself ever respecting Obama.
