| Floor Fight In The HouseDemocrats are lining up female members to support the health care bill and giving a quick speech as part of their "unanimous consent request to revise and extend" their remarks. Tom Price (R-GA) is now objecting and generally mucking up the works. Now, Rep. Drier is doing it. John Dingell who, God bless him, is about 125 years old is in the chair and getting pissed. It's awesome. The Republicans finally got a female member down to do the objects. A good idea but the "Republicans are trying to shut women up" meme already has plenty of video. The Democrats are providing their female members with quick talking points printed out for them. Dingle is now reading something handed to him, no doubt from Pelosi's office, saying that each full request will be heard. In other words, it's now out of order to object before the Democrats make their little pre-written 'speech'. Republicans wisely don't object to Debbie Wasserman-Shultz's speech about breast cancer (she's a breast cancer survivor). Good to see someone is paying attention. Dingell now says if they keep doing this they will be charged time and warns the Republicans they will be charged when they try it. So what happens now is that the Dems get 10-12 freebies but when the Republicans try it they will get zero freebies. It looks like the Republicans are giving up, probably in the hope they will get these freebies. Somehow I doubt it will work that way. Now the Republicans are doing it and Dingell is cracking down after 3 Republicans. Funny how the rules are automatically applied to the GOP and not Dems. Elections have consequences. They are all saying "job killing bill" when the Democrats had individual talking points. The Republicans got caught flat footed with this.Comments1

My letter to Congress:
Dear Member of Congress,
I am writing to you to ask that you vote “No” for the Health Care Bill currently before you. While it is true that there are improvements to be made to our current health insurance industry, our health care system is, for the most part, not broken – the American people have access to the best health care on the face of the planet.
There are better ways to reform health care than having a government takeover of the entire healthcare industry – something this important should not be rushed. After all, this president took almost 4 MONTHS to pick out a dog for his family – and that decision only affected 4 people. This legislation affects 300 MILLION people – don’t the American people deserve more deliberation?
I LOVE this great land of ours; I get misty-eyed whenever I hear the Star-Spangled Banner and see Old Glory going up the flagpole. This is truly the most exceptional country in the world, and I thank God every day that I was fortunate enough to be born in these United States of America.
Our current President does not appear to share these sentiments; rather, he seems to be quite ashamed of this country. He appears to be doing all in his power to ensure that this country descends into mediocrity. He does not have this country’s best interests at heart; rather, he is seeking to mold this country into his utopian vision of - well, I’m not sure exactly what his vision is, but I know that it isn’t the same thing that was envisioned by all of the brave men and women who have fought and died for this country. I’m not sure that this president has thought that far ahead, and frankly, that scares me.
This president has spoken of people ruining “his” presidency – make no mistake; the ONLY thing that the person currently sitting in the highest office in the land is concerned about is the legacy that he will leave, and he will do ANYTHING to ensure that health care reform is passed on his watch. It doesn’t matter to him that the majority of people in this great nation do not want this legislation to pass. It doesn’t matter to him that the bill that is currently before Congress will bankrupt this country and place a burden on our children and our grandchildren that they may never be able to overcome. All that matters to him is how he will be portrayed in schoolchildren’s history books.
Please search your heart and ask yourself what kind of leader doesn’t care about the wishes of the FREE people who elected him to serve them. Ask yourself what sort of leader is more concerned with his place in the history books than with what is best for the people of this nation. Ask yourself why this president is more concerned with passing healthcare reform legislature than addressing the needs of the brave men and women who are currently defending freedom thousands of miles away. And finally, ask yourself what kind of man can make time to travel to Copenhagen to make a bid to bring the Olympic Games to Chicago, yet can’t be bothered to travel to Germany to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. These are not the actions of a public SERVANT; these are the actions of a spoiled child.
I know that you are being pressured by your leaders to pass this legislation. I am sure that they have been making all kinds of promises to give you something further down the line, if you will just vote “Yes” on this one bill. I urge you to take a long look at the other “promises” that have been made by this administration, only to be cast aside when those promises proved to be problematic. Do you honestly think that the earmarks and/or future positions of leadership that you have been offered are still going to be there after this administration has gotten what it wants?
I urge you to think long and hard about the principles that this great country was founded upon – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, free from omnipresent government. I ask that you search your heart and vote for what is best for the people of this country, irrespective of political party lines. I urge you to do the RIGHT thing, rather than the most politically expedient thing. I ask you to look at what you have been promised in exchange for your “Yes” vote, and then ask yourself if the 30 pieces of silver that you are being offered will be worth it in the long run.
Sincerely, Teresa Koch

FYI:
Unanimous consent refers to the practice of agreeing to an action without dissent or objection by any Member. A request for unanimous consent either expressly or implicitly asks for permission to act outside of or contrary to one or more House or Senate rules, and is usually used, on the floor or in committee, to speed up proceedings. The Senate relies on unanimous consent agreements more heavily than the House because the Senate has few other rules of procedure to expedite the conduct of its business. When a Senator makes a unanimous consent request, the Presiding Officer asks, "Is there objection?" If no Senator objects, the Presiding Officer then announces that, "Without objection, it is so ordered." However, any Senator may object to any unanimous consent request. If a Senator does object, the Senate continues to operate under the terms of its regular rules. Sometimes a Senator will "reserve the right to object" to a unanimous consent request in order to ask that the request be clarified or modified in some way. The Senator who reserves the right to object ultimately does object or withdraws his or her reservation. Likewise in the House, when a Member makes a unanimous consent request, the Speaker usually puts the question to the House: "Is there objection to the request?" In response, any Representative can object or reserve the right to object. Also in the House, the Speaker may object to any unanimous consent request, but he usually just refuses to even entertain requests to which he objects, especially requests to bring up measures for immediate floor consideration if those requests have not already been cleared with majority and minority party leadership. When there appears to be no opposition to a bill or amendment that either the House or Senate is considering, the Member who is presiding sometimes will state that, "Without objection, the bill is passed [or the amendment is agreed to]." This is a way to expedite final action on the bill or amendment without conducting a formal vote. When the Member presiding makes such a statement, however, any other Member can object and require that a formal vote be conducted. Posted by: Pianobuff at November 07, 2009 11:26 AM (BnI+o) 28

update re Bishops and Abortion from Politico---
my question is this - if the amendment doesnt pass, isnt this a non-endorsement? Compare teh two highlighted sentences - politico is writing its a done-deal endorsement, and the bishops are saying if the amendment passes, they're on board. horribly biased reporting House leaders have won the backing of the nation’s Catholic bishops for health reform, a critical last-minute boost that could give the bill enough momentum – and enough votes – for passage as early as Saturday.
As they awaited President Barack Obama's visit before noon, House Democrats held out hopes they could rally the 218 votes to pass a sweeping $1.2 trillion health reform bill, even if it took until late Saturday night.
But they clearly weren't there yet. During the day's first round of votes to corral support for the bill, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer made a rare appearance in the Speaker's Lobby, just off the House floor, to look for colleagues. He told a group of reporters, "I'm always gun-shy...At this moment, I'm counting."
Abortion flared up as a last-minute obstacle to passage, as anti-abortion members pressed for – and won – a vote on an amendment barring insurance companies that participate in the exchange from covering abortions.
That prompted the letter of support from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
"Passing this amendment allows the House to meet our criteria of preserving the existing protections against abortion funding in the new legislation," the bishops wrote in a letter to individual members. "Most importantly, it will ensure that no government funds will be used for abortion or health plans which include abortion."
It’s another bitter pill for liberal Democrats but party leaders are gambling that the amendment will be just the breakthrough they need to secure a majority. And in fact, most Democratic advocates of abortion rights appear likely to swallow hard and vote for a health care overhaul anyway. O/T: Small business owner (woman) on the phone with Kudlow. She said she had 5 women employed and now they are gone and she is fighting to keep her small business alive. She is asking Kudlow "why does Nancy Pelosi have so much power" and why are all these representatives afraid of her. Kudlow is telling her that she can punish them by taking away plum assignments, etc. He is also complimenting her by saying she is pretty effective. He is saying she is going to fight what she believes in, she is a card carrying liberal, left liberal and he respects her abilities and that is why this is going to be a very close vote. She plays hardball, is a very smart lady and should be taken very very seriously, says Kudlow. He calls this Saturday vote, Ms. Pelosi's riverboat gambling "she knows what she is doing and I'm sure she is in close touch with RAM and BO ...but beware Nancy Pelosi is tough and smart"

"Your insurance plan must not be used to finance abortions and this is a gigantic gigantic vote" and he is saying "God Bless Stupac for raising this issue". He is saying that Nancy pelosi went to a convent high school and is a Catholic (not really) and he doesn't know how she could be a supporter of abortion. (Still do not understand why her church doesn't kick her out and deprive her of it's sacraments).

Some guy on Kudlow saying that he is shocked by the attitude of some of his family members who are cops and firemen and teachers and they support BO and his policies and he thinks they have their heads in the sand. Kudlow is explaining how they have jobs for life protected by their union. They ahve the best health plan available. They have fabulous salaries. They have fabulous retirement plans. And their jobs are not subject to the vageries of the economy. Kudlow says they have a great deal so of course they are in favor of bigger and bigger government and unions. Kudlow said the government workers union is flourishing.
So how long until government worker outnumber workers in the private sector. Notice, the jobs number is about the private sector. Education and Government Employees are about the unions and government employment. When Kudlow said that it occurred to me that they are destroying the private sector and making the government stronger and stronger all with the blessing of all these government workers who have jobs for life and all the persks and retire millionaires. Guys on Kudlow's program pointing out that for years people in other countries would convert their wealth to dollars and invest in US securites. They are saying the trend now is for Americans to export their wealth to places like Brasil as they are worried about the "dollar/peso". When Americans are converting their wealth out of dollars and into gold/silver or another countries currency this does not show that they believe in the economic acumen of the administration. I bet all those millionaires in the house and senate and millionaires are the majority have sheltered their money and will be fine. The Dems are telling their nervous rank and file that NY-23 shows they can win Republican leaning districts, that it shows people support their version of reform and that Obama has the ability to help them get re-elected. The vote in NY-23 pretty much assured passage in the House. Ya gotta hand it to the Dems: They are ruthless and definitely know how to wield power. Meanwhile, Republicans just want to get along and will be having cocktails with their "good friends" on the other side of the aisle after the vote. the democrats have severely miscalcualted what will happen next year... they can ramp through this shitty bill if they want... its not going to pass thru the Senate and will die off enxt year. And 1/2 of the states have already stated they are not enforcing any of this shit. BUT.. they have now lost millions of conservative democrat VOTERS, they have lost lifelong democrats like me. Do they think people will stand for getting finded 25K or 1 year in jail.. who the fuck do they think they are kidding. 2010 will indeed be a like nothing these assholes have ever seen, because its not just the conservatives/repubs they have pissed off.. its the conservative lifelong democrats and independents like me who want them GONE! Why is it necessary to include abortion in a government health care bill? We already give Planned Death-Hut THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS. Do these mother fucking MARXISTS suggest we have women out there who do not have access to the services needed to kill their child NOW?? Is there not enough FREE BABY KILLING already? Seriously. We have ABORTION as a sticking point. We already pay for hundreds of thousands of babies to be KILLED with out tax money already. This is about keeping the DEATH CULTS votes. Liberals are sickening.
