CNN Video of Hasan This Yesterday Morning UPDATED

C-Store surveillance video, around 6:30am local time.

CNN reporter says c-store owner said he came in dressed like so from time to time, didn't strike him as unusual today.

via Allahpundit, on twitter.

UPDATE: 13 dead, 30 others in stable condition. Heard this morning two of the dead were civilians. Also this from the AP (and commenters in the thread), "Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire, the base commander said Friday"

7 I was curious about #1... quick google search produced this:

http://tinyurl.com/ygg54rf

Fom the link:
"The gunman who killed 12 people today at Ft. Hood appears, based on current media reports, to be Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan who was listed as a participant in a Homeland Security Policy Institute's presidential transition task force last year.

The task force was not officially affiliated with the White House. It was a project of the Homeland Security Policy Institute, an independent thinktank housed at George Washington University, aimed at drafting policy recommendations for the incoming Obama administration."

But this is pretty much a textbook case of SJS if ever I've speculated about one.

19 We'd been hearing for hours today that the man was a recent convert, and that he was killed after/while going on his rampage.

Neither of these "facts" turned out to be true.  He's a lifelong Muslim, very much alive at this point.  Other than that, I'm done with him.  Try him and fry him.  Now it's time to find a way to help the families and the survivors.

65 BTW, every military doctor I've ever known prefers the title of "Doctor" rather than his/her rank.  Let's not give this a**hole ANY title as he doesn't rate either title of Major or Doctor.

THE BIG STORY should be how a psychiatrist/doctor premeditated murdered US soldiers going to war to protect the US because of his religious  beliefs, NOT that a military officer didn't want to go to war.

The AMA (and who ever accredited this guy) should be concerned with their screening process just as much if not MORE than the military (although, they definitely have some questions to answer)

I think that Hasan has some answers that we need.  His man-dress and head doiley scream "one of a dedicated group". My guess is that if the proper questions are asked the proper way, we will get the answers we need.

There seems a very slim chance that Hasan was "helped" just a bit; helped to get religion, helped to hate America, helped to get radical, etc.  There's probably a cleric or two, and maybe a few other mosque members, that are up to their eyeballs in this. We need to know who they are.

We can't let Hasan claim to be a victim.  He migh have been manipulated a bit, but not to the point that he was controlled, or even became unaware that he was being manipulated. He achieved a degree in biochemistry, so it's clear that he's smart. He knew what he was doing.  We need to get the one or two or three others.

94 From what I was hearing on the news earlier tonight, sounds to me like this guy was planning this in case he lived.  Setting up claims of harassment, complaining about being sent overseas, etc... in order to claim mental illness and get out of the death penalty.
I, for one, am glad he survived.  Now he can get put to trial and hopefully get the just punishment for his actions - death.  Too many of these bastards get off with a quick end.

50 How in the fuck does a total piece of shit like this achieve the rank of Major?
Who the fuck promoted him?

Army doctors usually start out as Captain (O-3). Considering Hasan's been in the Army for at least 10 years, has a PHD and other medical credentials, and is only a Major (O-4), I'd lay money he's been passed over for promotion at least once. He should be at least an LTC (O-5) by now.

Standard "garb"?  Does anyone know about this? Does this outfit signify sect? Or a particular ethnicity? Or a particular mosque?  Is this a universal uniform?  White mean anything?  curious.

My guess is that Anderson Cooper consciously shortened "standard Muslim garb" to "standard garb" to avoid referring to the, treacherous, cowardly piece of shit as a "Muslim".  You know, "The Narrative" and all.  What a sad day for those killed and injured and their families.  What a sad day for this country.

Army Major Played Role in Presidential Transition
Incredibly, it appears that Maj. Why is that good? Because if there is no trial, the Lefty terrorist-sympathizers and their friends in the media can sweep this whole mess under the rug, which would easily work because we have such a short attention span nowadays. It only took eight years to forget about 9/11.

The media will do all it can, as will the Left, to distract Americans from the essential truth - that Islam breeds this behavior and is the true root cause.  But I think that the reality is not lost on the average, non-muslim, non-Leftist American.  If an effective pogrom could be initiated against those slime, few would stand to oppose it.  And any who did oppose being rid of the muslims should be considered an enemy of the US and subject to the same removal.

Alas - I fear it will take many more horrible incidents before the anger wells up strongly enough to motivate folks to take action.  And as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow we will see those horrible incidents here, and with ever increasing frequency.

140 Hasan accounted his birth in the US.

Last night I heard he was of Syrian ancestry. This morning TX Congressman referenced him as Jordanian. He tried to pass himself off as Palestinian at his mosque in Silver Springs MD. His former imam reported him as a life-long Muslim; so much for the rumor that he was a "convert" unless we're talking "born again" Muslim conversion.

Hasan attended prayers regularly when he lived outside Washington, often in his Army uniform, said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended in Silver Spring, Md. He said Hasan was a lifelong Muslim.

"I got the impression that he was a committed soldier," Khan said. He spoke often with Hasan about Hasan's desire for a wife.

On a form filled out by those seeking spouses through a program at the mosque, Hasan listed his birthplace as Arlington, Va., but his nationality as Palestinian, Khan said.

"I don't know why he listed Palestinian," Khan said, "He was not born in Palestine."

Nothing stood out about Hasan as radical or extremist, Khan said. "We hardly ever got to discussing politics," Khan said. "Mostly we were discussing religious matters, nothing too controversial, nothing like an extremist."

So much for WHAT "mostly" stands out as radical or extremist amongst religious Muslims.

So much for WHAT stands out in particular as radical extremist to the Feds. Muslim Americans given a free pass. Look at the results of that policy. According to Hasan's statements made in public, in face to face arguments and internet postings, he should have been court marshaled AT LEAST. TREASON within the ranks must be addressed by officials.

What we are witnessing, amongst other things, is the politically correct enforcement of "I'm OK, You're OK" acceptability of anti-American sentiment, sedition within the ranks being stroked by officials turning a blind eye. Such anxiety to coerce met its match with PREDICTABLE HORRIFIC TERRORISM.

To hear Hasan's cousin quoting Hasan's lame complaints at being "picked on" is to force feed puke on the public. So much for psychiatric help within the military when the doctor murders all. Hasan failed at Walter Reed where he should have helped soldiers heal, but instead made their psychiatric recuperation more difficult. He was transferred to Ft.Hood to help prepare soldiers before deployment for the difficulties ahead, and AS THE DOCTOR, he chose instead to MURDER UNARMED COMRADES/PATIENTS.

This is all on Obama's watch. This all took place under Obama's DHS, CIA, FBI, Pentagon Joint Chiefs of Staff and Dept. of Defense. And what was Obama's first on air response? PATHETIC to put it gently. Disgusting.

This is a set-up ploy to pull America out of the Middle East. And The Times jumped on that bandwagon to broadcast-publish first, making this an anti-American sentiment message, to blame Americans for Hasan's treason. Too convenient for Obama, supplying a tragedy stateside, taking American lives to convince Americans that they don't belong in the Middle East.

One thing has always been certain; the West will never be acceptable in Islam.

God rest the souls of all those taken. God bless the injured victims. God protect the families of our troops. God guide us and grant our leaders wisdom to protect our Constitution.

The media is indeed the major obstacle to most positive reform in this country.  It is fortunate that they are working so hard to destroy their own credibility.  Perhaps the coverage of this incident will further illustrate to the average person that the media is in the tank for the vile muzzies and their treasonous sympathizers.  We can rely on the Islamists to keep coming back onto the news scene in a way that is not flattering to them.  Hopefully it will soon push the American people past the tipping point, such that the US can be made a much more hostile environment for the mohammedans, thereby discouraging any further immigration and hopefully sparking an exodus (or leading to some other, more active, removal project).

157 Like others I cannot believe military bases are basically "gun free" zones.

For one thing, many residents of a base are not old enough to get carry permits if the legal age is 21.   Firearms are also routinely barred from places like the PX, the theaters, and the bowling alley even when soldiers are in from exercises.  Something about young males and alcohol, I think, even without ammunition.  Not saying here that no one should carry on base, but from a lifetime of experience there's been no need.  Until now.

Cooties. Symbolic prevention of contamination onto the official touching the condemned.

Or simply a habitual practice to ease any inner conflict that the official performing the execution may have.

Why give them their last dinner or last smoke? Culturally, to prove how the guilty should have interacted with people, that we're better than the condemned with that 'generous' last gesture of humanity at the great send-off to Never Neverland.

It's a mark of distinction between the West and Islam that still crucifies, stones, and decapitates with rusty instruments.

After birth and matriculating through the finest educational opportunities within the USA, Hasan's inner angst just HAD to perform his chosen life's function as a self-aggrandized murderer.

Given he's still alive, what's going to happen?

Their effort to somehow explain why this guy did while completely avoiding religion is disgusting - regardless of this pic above.

169 does the army not execute for desertion in a time of war anymore?

Here's what it takes to charge someone with desertion from the UCMJ:

Note the last sentence, indicating that death or some other punishment selected by the CM is appropriate.  Know also that sometimes, for the good of the service, lesser charges are used or a lesser punishment adjudged in order to avoid the very serious hassle that a death sentence for a soldier entails.  (Which I am fine with, BTW.)

885. ART. 85. DESERTION (a) Any member of the armed forces who-- (1) without authority goes or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to remain away therefrom permanently; (2) quits his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to avoid hazardous duty or to shirk important service; or (3) without being regularly separated from one of the armed forces enlists or accepts an appointment in the same or another on of the armed forces without fully disclosing the fact that he has not been regularly separated, or enters any foreign armed service except when authorized by the United States; is guilty of desertion. (b) Any commissioned officer of the armed forces who, after tender of his resignation and before notice of its acceptance, quits his post or proper duties without leave and with intent to remain away therefrom permanently is guilty of desertion. (c) Any person found guilty of desertion or attempt to desert shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, but if the desertion or attempt to desert occurs at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct.

Its logical to include a psychiatrist who is immersed in the Arab American culture and speaks the language as someone who can provide valuable insights you might otherwise miss.

He may even have been pretty much loyal to the USA prior to his involvement in that task. Being exposed to radical preaching in that line of work is what may have brought him to Jihad. That is its purpose, after all.

So - I suppose the psychiatrist that picked Jeffrey Dahmer's brain after Dahmer was in jail - now that doctor has a greater likelihood of becoming a mass-murderer. He's a doctor.  He entered as a captain and his promotion to major was a perfunctory exercise. 211 -- Sop, a military base is like a city, onto itself.  There are areas where weapons should defintely be restricted (although I'm with the people above in thinking they may need to rethink their security).

I'm afraid the military dropped the ball with this guy -- he should have been investigated.  However, in a sense they can be excused.  The PC idiocy (which has no place whatsoever within the military! ditto multiculturalist #$%^ -- there is only one culture in the military, and that is the military culture; period, end of story! -- many of our specialized officers do not get that indoctrination, it should be noted) has hamstrung our military -- if someone would have called this guy out what would have happened?  Howls of "racism...racism and Islamaphobia!" from the usual suspects, and the whistle blower would've been frakked -- certainly careerwise, possibly having their personal life become a nightmare.  Not many have the intestinal fortitude to take that hit I'm afraid (especially when it could come to nothing).  Also, this does illustrate a major problem (pun perhaps intended) within our officer corps -- they cover for each other way too much (often at the expense of their troops) and with little consequence.

The media will continue to wilfully drop the ball in reporting it, and unfortunately the American people themselves will wilfully drop the ball in accepting this lame ptsd excuse (and smear on the military -- seems an unfortunately large segment of our population is all too willing to believe any bad thing about about our military and veterans -- we're like the human pit bulls, heh, any bad press will be reported constantly, blow out of proportion outrageously, and believed unquestioningly).  In the meantime, our society will continue to drop the ball on the threat within our midst -- wilfully -- because it appears as though it is much better to die, and our children to die, than to ever be seen as a "racist" (if you're from  a non-protected group looking at a protected group -- and Muslims are the freaking gold standard of protected groups right now).  LIke I said, when you have Muslims telling you 10+ years ago that religious extremism within their own religion could become a very big and bloody problem, you tend to listen to them...or should.

WTF? there are no weapons in a military base? in Israel he'd be shot in 2 sec.

When not training in the field weapons are kept in the armory, even then if you are not participating in a live fire exercise they do not issue live ammunition.

247 And again, liberals' pet ideas ("diversity" and "tolerance", this time) manifest in a pile of corpses. Here's the deal, liberals: I will be tolerant toward your protected "minorities" when they become tolerant toward me. Also, as far as "diversity" is concerned, it is no longer a mere "difference of opinion" when a member of a psycho cult (also, your beloved protected "minority") believes it is his right and duty to commit mass murder. So, until your pet freaks start practicing tolerance and diversity, don't expect others to do so.

When's the last time a Christian shot up an army base screaming about Jesus?

That's just it. These bobble head journalists say this prefab crap and SO IT BE! Heather, I am just about to explode out of my skin with the inane shitstorm of fluff that comes outta these parrots mouths! THIS IS NOT SOME CRAZY FRINGE MUSLIM! NPR segment.

He gave a Grand Rounds presentation. . . You take turns giving a lecture on, you know, the correct treatment of schizophrenia, the right drugs to prescribe for personality disorder, you know, that sort of thing. But instead of giving an academic paper, he gave a lecture on the Koran, and they said it didn’t seem to be just an informational lecture, but it seemed to be his own beliefs. That’s what a lot of people thought.

He talked about how if you’re a nonbeliever the Koran says you should have your head cut off, you should have oil poured down your throat, you should be set on fire. And I said well couldn’t this just be his educating you? And the psychiatrist said yes, but one of the Muslims in the audience, another psychiatrist, raised his hand and was quite disturbed and he said you know, a lot of us don’t believe these things you’re saying, and that there was no place where Hasan couched it as this is what the Koran teaches but you know I don’t believe it. And people actually talked in the hallway afterwards about ‘is he one of these people that’s going to freak out and shoot people someday?’

deranged Christian saying some Christian sentiment going into attack

The fundamental flaw in this comparison is that Jesus did not instruct his followers to kill other human beings in his name.  Anyone who does so is most assuredly not a Christian.

The battle to which he referred upon occasion was the one against Satan.

253 This guy was not crazy.  Any more than you and I..  He had hate in his heart because of his religion..  PERIOD.  The left will spin this in the compassionate way that they do things. He was a loser, and even Walter Reed kicked him out because of poor reports. His own fault. So, in a typical Liberal way, he spun it in his mind that it was not his fault. Just think what would happen, if a solder did the same thing in a Mosque! The PC people would go nuts.

Yeah. My recollection is that Jesus supported passive martyrdom. IF they come and kill you for loving Jesus, do not deny your love. But do not kill others for not loving Jesus.

Who the fuck promoted him?

He was not a REAL officer, he's a doctor and doctor's get promoted without any significant review. Doctors start out as Captains so its not like he had even 10 years experience in the military nor had a real promotion board."

Well, that will come as a rude shock to Leonard Wood, and a godsend by all those to whom I have give Article 15s over the years.

Your ignorance is astounding. I suspect you are a Failure to Adapt discharge ?

Still skeptical of how many casualties could be caused by two handguns, but I found a possible explanation:

Officials are not ruling out the possibility that some of the casualties may have been victims of "friendly fire," that in the confusion at the shooting scene some of the responding military officials may have shot some of the victims.

Cone acknowledged that it was "counterintuitive" that a single shooter could hit so many people, but he said the massacre occurred in "close quarters.

"With ricochet fire, he was able to injure that number of people," Cone said. He said authorities were investigating whether Hasan's weapons were properly registered with the military.
