| Breaking: Fort Hood Shooter Alive. Also, Narrative Takes A Hit, Hasan Seems To Be A Pretty Big Fan Of Suicide Bombers![]() Army press conference right now. Now they are saying it's a single shooter, Hasan, and he is in the hospital. The officer who shot him was thought to be dead but she's alive and out of surgery. Damn. Just remember Hasan Akbar is still alive. I have no idea why. Well, I guess I do. I was going to do this as a separate post but I figured I'd add it on here.... In a comment on one of the threads I half joked that tomorrow's spin on Hasan would be he was so sad from hearing other soldiers stories that he had PTSD by osmosis or something. Alas it's been the spin tonight. Meanwhile, it turns out that Hasan had put up some web positing expressing admiration for suicide bombers. The postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was killed during the shootings at the Army post incident that left least 11 others dead and 31 wounded. The officials say they are still trying to confirm that he was the author. They say an official investigation was not opened. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case. One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades. "To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause," said the Internet posting. "Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers."This will be poured down the memory hole as soon as possible. Fox spoke with someone identified as Col. Terry Lee (ret) who worked with Hasan at Ft. Hood. Lee says Hasan was critical of US policy and was pretty psyched about Muslims killing Americans. I don't fault the media this time. They're reporting what they know at the time they know it. It takes a while for something like this to get all sorted out. Instead, fault the instant-on-the-spot get-it-out-quickest news format that has come to dominate the TV age. In some ways, it was better than the old days where you wouldn't hear about something like this for a week or a month. Posted by: OregonMuse at November 05, 2009 09:27 PM (eR37w) 50

I can't believe I'm standing up for the media, but it's ridiculous to blame them for not reporting that this guy was alive. They took their cues from the military (as they naturally would and should) and the military reported earlier that he had been killed.
In fact, as this guest on Hannity points out, it's rather bizarre that the Army kept this quiet until now and one wonders if it was just confusion or a more deliberate strategic decision. Either way, I hope this fucker can speak. Posted by: Jeff B. at November 05, 2009 09:29 PM (GhUHn) 61

tickets can be purchased by any current member of the military, prior service, and their immediate families. the lucky winners will be assigned a firing point on said range, the infantry weapon of their choice, with ammo, and, on command, open fire, until this scumbag is dead, dead, dead. directly after the Court Martial and appeal, of course. What I learned today: Other than the obvious stuff, that is. I HATE these nitwit leftist trolls. I used to just not like them when they were dropping their turds on threads about this or that politician or this or that piece of legislation or election. They were always annoying, usually so egregiously wrong one wondered if they actually believed what they were saying, and rarely clever enough to be entertaining. But after seeing their relentless trolling of threads about the Fort Hood shooting, I have to say it: These people are worthless goatcum-drinking scrunts. They are not people who merely disagree with us. They hate us and everything we believe. I hope they die in a fire. If one of them were getting the Kitty Genovese treatment in my neighborhood, I would be unable to find my phone or open my front door. Effin Oxygen thieves, the lot of them. I'm delighted he's alive because when he starts talking some leftist douchebag CAIR apologist heads will explode. That SOB was born here, grew up here, and got his medical education courtesy of the Army after he voluntarily enlisted. If he didn't want to be deployed he could have sat it out in the brig or deserted and taken the consequences. And as for the PTSD by proxy theory, the press can try to fly that one all day but nobody's going to buy it in a nation where we pay good money to watch Saw movies over and over and over again.

For some reason this news made me think of that scene in King Lear where lear finds that Cordelia has hung herself.
Howl, howl, howl, howl! O! you are men of stones: Had I your tongues and eyes, I'd use them so That heaven's vaults should crack. — She's gone for ever! I know when one is dead, and when one lives; She's dead as earth. The murdered dead are gone forever; their killer lives on. Justice will come, soon or late, but still: how can this murder have life and his victims none at all? What meaning is there in this? I know we are told that God never burdens us beyond what we can bear, but I cannot imagine the terrible weight that must lie on the loved ones of the dead. Why should a dog, a horse, a rat, have life, And thou no breath at all? Thou'lt come no more, Never, never, never, never, never! Posted by: Monty at November 05, 2009 09:46 PM (nTxjg) 160

Falling on a grenade is a spontaneous act, dictated by the moment, and
the savage possibilites a armed grenade can create. Perfectly moral,
sympathetic people dive the other way. I guess you can't really ask a
guy who fell on a grenade why he did it. He didn't exactly make a video
beforehand.

This guy isn't a serial killer, as Gacy, Dahmer, Wayne Williams, and Bundy were. I don't think he can even really be classed as a spree killer, since such people are usually highly disorganized and attack at random. Serial killers tend to strike in their own ethnic and social groups, and do so one-on-one. Their crimes are nearly always sexual in nature. Spree killers not so much, but again, spree killers are highly disorganized, act on impulse, and often have diagnosed or undiagnosed mental illnesses (Whitman had a brain tumor, discovered post-mortem).
Hasan was pretty clearly organized, and acted with intent and forethought. Apparently he had a pattern of behavior going back several months if not years. (This reflects badly on the Army medical wing, and I imagine that some tough questions are going to be posed in the coming days and weeks.) Given what we now know, it's pretty clear that this was a case of what Michelle Malkin calls "Sudden Jihad Syndrome". It is his religion and not his race that matters most here, though the MSM will do their best to ignore it. They said that he had been in the army since 9-11. Did the army pay for
his medical degree? If they did, how many years does someone owe the
army for that? Did he not have a chance to get out since we went to
Afghanistan? Did he think he would never get deployed or did he think
Obama would pull out immediately and stay in?
According to a link I have in the last thread, he went to the military's medical school and graduated in 2003. So that seems to mean that he started before September 11, 2001. And yes, as I read and understand the regs, he should have still owned more time. I can post the links if anybody wants them. One to info that most likely is about him, one on the med school terms and service obligations. Posted by: Mama AJ at November 05, 2009 09:57 PM (Be4xl) 226

Today has been a terrible day for our national security and the security of our soldiers here at home.
This morning I heard how a group of senior citizens, aged 60-80 breeched a secure area in a Washington military facility where 1/4 of our nukes are stored where they loitered around for near 4 hours ad we're finally detected when they breached an inner fence.................using nothing but a pair of bolt cutters. Then this afternoon we have a Major of the armed forces who apparently is a loon, they knew he was unstable, they knew he made comments that shot up huge red flags and yet he was assigned to Fort Hood where his warped ideology was allowed to fester until he went on his killing spree. more details from wapo---
Palestinian West Bank parents, "very devout" Muslim... Hasan is a U.S. citizen, according to Virginia voting records, and his parents are Palestinians from the West Bank, according to his aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church. He was born at Arlington Hospital Center. Hasan, 39, had lived in Montgomery County, Md., and Arlington, Va., in addition to Roanoke and nearby Vinton, Va. He graduated from Virginia Tech and earned his medical degree at Bethesda's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, records show. Hasan attended the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring and was "very devout," according to Faizul Khan, a former imam at the center. Khan said Hasan attended prayers at least once a day, seven days a week, often in his Army fatigues. Khan also said Hasan applied to an annual matrimonial seminar that matches Muslims looking for spouses. "I don't think he ever had a match, because he had too many conditions," Khan said. "We never got into details of worldly affairs or politics," the former imam said of his conversations with Hasan. "Mostly religious questions. But there was nothing extremist in his questions. He never showed any frustration. . . . He never showed any . . . wish for vengeance on anybody." However, a fellow Army officer who worked with Hasan told Fox News Channel that Hasan had expressed strong opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. "He would make comments to other individuals about how we should not be in the war in the first place," Col. Terry Lee told the network. "He made those comments, and he stuck strongly to his faith, but as soldiers we have a duty to follow orders from our commander in chief, and our political views are set aside." U.S. counterterrorism officials said it was too early to draw conclusions about the Fort Hood incident, but one senior official said he did not believe there had been any specific warnings to military installations or similar facilities about this type of attack. As to his rank: if a person enters the service with an M.D., or goes through medical school on an enlistment contract, they are commissioned as Captains when they enter the service (or is it a First Looie? I forget.) Anyway, it's pretty common for military doctors to be Majors. IIt's more of an admin or XO rank. If a field officer is a Major, he's usually a battallion or brigade XO. The next step up is Lt. Colonel, and this is more usual for an officer in command of troops.
It goes like this, for combat and field commands: 2nd Lt. - Platoon Commander 1st Lt. - Company XO (usually) Captain - Company Commander Major - Battallion/Brigade XO (usually) Lt. Colonel - Battallion/Brigade Commander Brigadier Gen. - Brigade/Division Commander However, on the admin side of things, Captains and above usually hold higher administrative positions without being in direct command of troops. A doctor who is a Major would very likely be posted in a very safe area and given authority over Corps wide medical operations and direct command over a large base medical operation.
I hate to say it, but we may be better off with him snapping now rather than being in a position to effect widespread sabotage of medical operations in the field where he could have killed hundreds via various methods were he subtle and clever about it. No, it is entirely obvious that he is one of the Boyz from the Hood with a bad case of PTSD. Posted by: Truman North at November 05, 2009 10:02 PM (XH/G Apparently the latest is that Hassan opened fire in the Soldier Preparedness Center on the soldiers awaiting dental and medical services, then ducked into an adjacent building and opened fire in a second location. I would speculate that he reloaded while moving between buildings. The fact that he fired in two locations seems to be what led to the report of a second gunman. Earlier someone said that the report of a third gunman was really a second eyewitness report from the second shooting location. Posted by: stuiec at November 05, 2009 10:10 PM (rBLs5) 295
20 round mags? I own a 1911 and i've only seen 9 round mags. Do they make larger capacity ones? I can't imagine this guy had time to reload more than once. He must have hit with every show You can get 33 round magazines for a Glock 9mm. I've only seen one before, but I don't own that weapon and I haven't been in a gun store in years so I don't know their availability, but I do know they exist. Easier to acquire are 15 or 17 round magazines. He had two pistols, right? So with 17-round magazines you're looking at 36 total rounds before you have to reload (17 in each mag and 2 in each chamber). It's possible that multiple people could have been hit by single rounds, or that people were in such a small area at close range that it was easy to hit them. .45 rounds are huge. they said they were model 1911. i don't know if they have extended mags, i am assuming they do, but i haven't seen them. The usual playbook will now be run. A few comments made him murder a dozen people and wound a few dozen more. It's the fault of the American people for being Islamophobic. Nobody ever asks why the infidels are so peaceful given the never-ending incitement, hatred, and outright murder by Muslims. The double standard is standard. Not a single 9/11 family member has committed one act of violence against a Muslim. And that goes for every major terror attack in the last thirty years. Muslims, OTOH, fire at will when they feel like it.
I am interested to see whether Hasan plays the insanity card or actually uses the court proceedings to preach jihad like so many others have done. And of course, as I said it would be, his real motive was the holy Muslim land, poor innocent Muslims just defending themselves garbage I've read countless times before. The Dirty Kuffar should stay in their own countries. I think it's time to apply their rules to them on our land. Think about it. The planet has so much land. We're prohibited from stepping on their holy ground while they move here at will. Project that out a few generations and it's not America Alone, but Islam Alone. I've got a Springfield XM .40S&W pistol that has a 16-round mag. It's not unusual to see nines these days with 20- or even 30-round extender mags (though they're not legal in all states). I don't like the extender mags because a) they fuck up the pistol's balance and aren't particularly good for the pistol, and b) if you need more than twenty fucking shots to put someone down, you need to spend more time on the shootin' range. Either that, or you shoulda brought your AR along to take care of the heavier work.

Two handguns causing more than 40 casualties?
A Beretta 92F mag holds about 15 rounds. If you're good, that's only two mag changes @2-4 seconds per. When I've been practicing I can do it under 2. A zombie can do it in 4 seconds. Don't even need two guns, one could do it if you've brushed up on mag change technique. If you've gotten some good tactical instruction, its not too hard to get under 2 seconds/swap either if the spare is already in your non-shooting hand and you've positioned it correctly. "260 A doctor who is a Major would very likely be posted in a very safe area and given authority over Corps wide medical operations and direct command over a large base medical operation.
I hate to say it, but we may be better off with him snapping now rather than being in a position to effect widespread sabotage of medical operations in the field where he could have killed hundreds via various methods were he subtle and clever about it. " Sorry, not even close, Purple Avenger, for docs in line units, normally, usually, generally, CPT=Battalion/Squadron surgeon, MAJ=Brigade surgeon, LTC=Division surgeon, COL=Corps or higher surgeon. The General Court Martial Authority (probably the Corps Commander, but might be higher) will approve the charges and specifications, if I remember my class on the UCMJ from ROTC. Then he will be tried by a military court of at least 7 field grade officers. LINE officers, who have probably had at least one trip to the sandbox. Per the Wa Post via Jihadwatch, the shooter was not a recent convert but rather a lifelong devout Muslim of Palestinian descent - per his family and his local imam - "Hasan is a U.S.-born Muslim of Palestinian descent whose parents came to the United States from the West Bank. He joined the military after high school and earned medical degrees as he rose through the ranks, family members said... Hasan attended the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring and was "very devout," according to Faizul Khan, a former imam at the center. Khan said Hasan attended prayers at least once a day, seven days a week, often in his Army fatigues." Along with "PTSD/Sudden Deployment Syndrome" I had a side-bet for spin about him being a "recent convert" who was "misled" into his belligerence by radicals who had "hijacked Islam" again. This should effectively scotch that spin. How or why did this OG devout Muslim so grossly misinterpret the Religion of Peace and do something that every CAIR-funded spokesperson assures us is totally forbidden by and inimical to the religion he'd followed since childhood ? Non-PC Totally Inappropriate Honest Questions Warning: Could (or should) the military consider a supplemental loyalty oath for Muslims or outright denial of military admission to Muslims ? My own cringe-meter goes off when considering these options. The last thing I want to do is to shit on Muslims who are on our side and don't deserve it - and for those who belive that's a very small number, I'd say that makes them all the more important from the "hearts and minds" perspective. It's also problematic in terms of our civil rights laws as well as practical needs for translators, etc... - and practically speaking, in light of the Muslim practice of taqqiya, a determined jihadi could simply lie in either instance. You'd have to deny admission to anyone whose background check revealed Muslim affiliations to make it effective However, this incident shows that we can't just stick our heads in the sand and pretend there's no problem with serving Muslims' conflicting loyalties to their religion and their military duty. If any of our military commenters has a take or some useful info in this regard, I'd like to know what they have to say re: how many Muslims are serving in our armed forces, how "mission-critical" they are (I suspect pretty important, at least in some positions) and what steps, if any, are taken to vet their loyalties (I'm guessing little to none). I'd like to know if we could take any cues in how to approach this problem from the Muslims themselves - after all, the prohibition on killing fellow Muslims didn't seem to affect the Iraqis vs. Iran, Kuwait, the Saudis, etc... or the internecine violence in Palestine. I'm guessing some variation on "they're not real Muslims" may have been used, but I'd like to know the facts. If the jihadis are deploying imams and prostelytizers to undermine soldiers' loyalties, what are we doing in turn to help strengthen and shore up those loyalties ? "mission-critical" they are (I suspect pretty important, at least in
some positions) and what steps, if any, are taken to vet their
loyalties (I'm guessing little to none).
So very few US citizens/soldiers speak arabic/farsi/urdu/pashto/.... you get the idea. It's possible they've waived quite a few in that are potential problems. How does the military know they are getting the proper translations? And I also read they rejected the Sephardic Jews, who are fluent arabic speakers in favor of Arab muslims. From February Do you all know how stupid you clowns look? When that cocksucker Bush doubled the national debt you all supported him. 2 wars, tax cuts, free drugs for old people, farm subsidies....it never ends. Ron Paul is the only politician that makes any sense. This Keynesian nonsense will only lead to the demise of the USA. We have to cut the Federal Budget by 90%. Better yet, is there any reason for the United States to further exist as one nation? We would be better off to declare national bankruptcy, renounce the national debt, and break up the country into smaller ones. We could then fuck over all the federal pensioners who got us into this mess.

Actually The Religion of Peace has it at 14,340 fatal jihad attacks since 9/11. A substantial percentage of these attacks killed dozens or even hundreds of people. So to be clear, that number is attacks, not fatalities which are much higher. Just the car bombs in Iraq over the last several years have killed thousands of people. Major Hasan is the latest recorded mujahideen fighting in Allah's Cause to make Islam supreme.

Hey Brownimom: The body count is an order of magnitude higher than that - look at October - 156 attacks, 909 bodies.
That was 14,340 _attacks_, not bodies. This is a war that most people in the West don't even realize we're fighting - and the first attack on us was right after our Revolution. And Angus Dei, it isn'ty "sudden jihad syndrome," there's nothing sudden about this. This was predicted by his behavior and no one was willing to step up because of political correctness. The feelings of prissy leftists are obviously more important than people's lives. Posted by: Merovign, Strong on His Mountain at November 06, 2009 10:19 AM (bxiXv) 473
