Keith Olbermann: Because My Boyfriend Ruled Fox News "Not Really a News Station," That Makes MSNBC The Number One Rated News Channel!

Well that's one way to get to the top.

In related news, I have a feeling that the Phillies will be the World Champions tonight, except for the team that beat 'em.

Thanks to Kurt.

With Fox News exposed as a political advocacy organization and not a news channel, that leaves msnbc as the #1 most watched news channel on cable.

You know, even the biggest MSNBC kool-aid drinkers have to look at this ridiculous bit of sophistry, and say now wait a minute...

108 @ 90 - The U.S. Supreme Court originally tried to restrain gerrymandering by ordering that redrawn districts be basic geometric shapes like you're suggesting, so long as approximately the same number of people are represented in each district.

The Voting Rights Act in the mid-60s, however, forced legislators to draw some strange looking, non-geometric districts in order to avoid racial dilution.

From there, politicians - being the worms that they are - just started drawing up safe and at-risk districts according to however it best served the dominant party in power after each census.

And since the courts have traditionally held that voting laws are inherently state matters, the Supreme Court has seldom intervened to straighten things out.  Hence, all the crazily drawn districts.
