6 They would have chalked it up to local issues, and would have said that if it weren't for the divine assistance of "The One", a wider margin of defeat would have been suffered by the noble and heroic progressive cause at the hands of the evil knuckledragging, snake handling, banjo playing, nazi obstructionists. Somethin' like that I'd imagine.

Well, a few hours ago, when it seemed like the homosexual marriage proponents were going to win in Maine, and Hoffman was going to win in NY, Rachel Maddow was talking about Maine, to the exclusion of New Jersey, Virginia, and New York. i don't think it hurts anyone and couldn't care less who these people

it and this Maine result shows me that this country is still generally
anti-Gay marriage even in blue states
Posted by: YRM at November 04, 2009 01:29 AM (xNw7B) Domestic partnerships actually got equal rights with marriage in Washington, barely by 3% of the vote but they will specifically not be called marriage. The problem for most people, in even the bluest area, is that they have never explained why same sex unions should be called marriage. Mainly because they aren't and they know most people don't think they are. Posted by: Rocks at November 04, 2009 01:35 AM (MTcoh) 33

It's easy if you have no shame and don't mind lying. "Virginia is historically a Red state, and Mr. Deeds refused The One's help. Also, he's a horrible candidate. New Jersey was close, but the incumbent Democrat Governor was deeply unpopular, and pretty much a stale muffin could have beaten him. It's a testament to the weakness of the GOP that they barely won there. NY 23 shows that Joe Biden has serious coattails, and that the tea-bagging fascists will lead the GOP to defeat and collapse. Maine is full of Mormon scum. That is all." Posted by: RJ at November 04, 2009 01:41 AM (ADbI4) 34

Chris Matthews does the damnest imitation of that archetypal bloviating opinionated obnoxious fog-brained clueless nitwit over-talking head that Fred Willis carried off so wonderfully years ago as the sidekick to the burn-out talk show host on Fernwood Tonight.
Except Willis was funny, he was playing a part, as opposed to actually being such a clown. And except that whereas Willis made a positive contribution to the show, with Matthews I find myself cheer-leading those huge flouncing goobers escaping from the sides of his mouth, hoping he gets whiplash from the spittle he's keeps spewing through the set, falls in a puddle of his own foam and goes into extremis. The way he acts on camera, it would not be hard to accept he does those shows without any pants. Posted by: diderot's dog at November 04, 2009 02:19 AM (DT0Wi) 38

My favorite spin so far was an article on cnn.com. The Republicans won because their voters were angry over being out of power. You see, this is really just a temper tantrum and it won't last. Apparently, 2006 and 2008 weren't brought about by people angry at GWB. Those elections were enlightened people making rational decisions.

Olbermann didn't "run away". His father's serious health and health coverage problems over the past few months, particularly given his mother died last year so isn't around to assist, have caused him to miss something between and third and a quarter of his own shows. She is pro-gay marriage, she is pro-abortion, she is pro Card check and she won the Margaret Sanger award. NOBODY THREW HE OUT. She was on the ballot as a Republican. I see that the two sneaky, little, liberal creeps who run Google now want to cease searches for conservative websites, which will make it more difficult for conservatives to find those websites, unless they know the specific names of those sites. These slimy liberals, they want to deprive conservatives of their 1st Amendment rights, further proof that they are definitely determined to astablish a socialist dictatorship, using the models of Communist China and the former Soviet Union and Cuba and Venezuela. Would I be a radical if I said that I wanted to declare war on all Democrats? They aren't just immoral. They are [very] mean, [very] vicious, unscrupulous and evil. I have always said that Democrats are a coalition of creeps, losers, misfits and perverts, all of whom are either mentally ill or mentally retarded. I haven't bothered to watch [any] of those channels for the past ten years. All of their progams are propoganda and baloney anyway. I felt cheated last night. I channel surfed as Christie was being announced the winner and didn't get the sad faces I was looking for. MSNBC was discussing something else (apparently this was the repeat) and CNN had a guy at a map discussing how Corzine could still pull it out (he needs X% in this county) even as the network had overlaid a Christie wins crawl. Essentially, on both fronts I saw non-acceptance. I was hoping for something closer to 2000's Supreme Court decision and 2004's Kerry Wins! Umm, No He Doesn't experiences.
