AP, FOX NEWS, CBS CALL IT FOR CHRISTIE

Just tipped by AHFF Geoff. Here's a CBSNews link.

...

Snippets from the RCP election blog:

9:29 -- There's six counties in New Jersey with over half the precincts in. Corzine is running 7 points behind his 2005 totals in Gloucester, 6 behind in Cape May, 14 behind in Ocean, 13 in Monmouth, 10 in Hunterdon, and 7 in Hudson. --SEAN TRENDE

9:19 -- From the NJN/Gannett exit poll: Obama has 57% job approval in NJ. Among those who approve, Corzine wins 75-17. Christie wins 88-7 among those who disapprove -- MIKE MEMOLI

9:17 -- Corzine would have to carry the rest of the state with about 53% of the two party vote in order to sweep the state. With most of the heavily Dem areas half in, this seems unlikely. --SEAN TRENDE

Really? Neat.

But chickens are not to be counted:

NJ Gov tightening. With 44% counted, Christie leads 49-44-6. Margin is 54,000 right now -- MIKE MEMOLI

20 Not pointing out anything novel here, but if Christie wins, expect a nasty, protracted challenge to the results. If he loses, we'll do what we always do: accept the outcome without protest. It is what it is.

22 NJ is over, there are not enough votes left.  4-6 Christie win.  Corzine running behind in every county from last election and Christie is absolutely running up the score in R counties, while Corzine just does not have the margin in the D counties.  Toss up counties are going to Christie as well.  Hoffman is worrying me.  That is too close for my liking.

25 Intrade shows the implied probability of Corzine victory is now at 7%.  With 60% of the votes counted, Christie has a nice 6% margin.  I don't know what the other precincts are, but mathematically Corizine would need an 8% margin to make up lost ground.

So, it's looking good!

Posted by: Kemp at November 03, 2009 10:06 PM (2+9Yx)

91 It's been a good night for the GOP regardless of what happens in Jersey -- just by making it close in bluest-of-blue New Jersey, the GOP put the skeer into the donks. And if the GOP runs the table (NY-23, NJ, and Virginia)? There's going to be some fairly deep alarm on the part of lots of democrats who are defending their seats in 2010 -- notably one Mr. Harry Reid. He of all people can see how this electoral medicine show is simply a warm-up act for next year, and he knows full well that he faces a tough (perhaps futile) fight in Nevada next year.

I don't think this night will do much to change the public's perception of Obama, if for no other reason than the MSM and the Democratic Congress will not allow it. The biggest effect it's going to have is on the Blue Dog coalition in the House: if tonight's results go all for the GOP, then it may be the stake through the heart of ObamaCare. Few Blue Dogs who want to keep their jobs are going to vote for it.

Um...no. It's over when all the votes have been counted and the election judge declares it over. The networks don't determine the winner (regardless of what they may think).

*Which is not to suggest that it's not important. Symbolically, it's very important. It was the GOP's seat to lose, and they might have lost it due to sheer dumbass incompetence.
