Too F'n Awesome: CNN Has Its Own Spin to Explain Elections

Remember "Angry White Men" in 1994? Peter Jennings' description of a historic, seismic victory by the Republicans thus: "Today the nation had a temper-tantrum" ?

Via Allah, that narrative is back in full force.

Analysis: Anger, frustration fuel Election Day 2009

Notice it's not dissatisfaction with Obama that fuels this election, his broken hopes, his unfinished changes. No, to call it such would by implication lay the blame of this on Darling Leader's precious head.

Instead, chalk it up to only stupid, intemperate, raging anger and frustration, not anger at any particular thing (like Darling Leader and his trillion-dollar-deficits extending from here to eternity), just blind unreasoning rage at the world, not anyone's fault, really, except these ugly hateful twisted potato-slug-like mutants in the photo, who tend to blame everyone else for their own shortcomings.

Subtle.

Prediction: Newspapers carrying the election results on Page One will not, for once, have Darling Leader's smug face on the cover. They will attempt to distance him from this debacle.

Or else the haters will have won.

Reid Suggests Health Care Reform May Not Come This Year
Asked if health care reform legislation will pass this year, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid told reporters today that "we're not going to be bound by any timelines."

"We need to do the best job we can for the American people," he said. "We want quality legislation, and we're going to do that."

Cross-posted from 'civil war' thread.

There is a reason that voters sometimes do elect people who have integrity, who tell them what they really believe -- and why voters sometimes vote out liars, who made a set of promises on the campaign trail and then turned around and voted the opposite way once in office.

People don't like being lied to.  And they especially don't like it when they've been convinced by those lies to put their trust in someone who then reveals that he was lying to them all along -- it makes them feel foolish and stupid.

There's a reason that the Left fears Sarah Palin: she doesn't appear to be a liar.  She didn't lie about her teenage daughter being pregnant out of wedlock, she didn't lie about her agenda on being elected as mayor of Wasilla and as Governor of Alaska.  And being unable to tar her as a liar, they're desperately trying to smear her as a quitter (as though the highest and best quality to be desired in a politician is an unwavering willingness to do anything to cling to office).

His first nine months in office have convinced a lot of independent voters, Republicans and even a fair number of Democrats that Barack Obama is a liar on a scale unseen since the original Baron von Munchausen.  That's one factor in the faltering of Democrats in this handful of elections today: people don't trust Obama when he endorses them, and his endorsement makes the Democrats seem untrustworthy to a lot of voters.

15 There are only two kinds of elections:

(1) Those in which people calmly and rationally come to an informed decision.
(2) Those in which people act out of blind rage and destructive fury.

In elections of type (1), Democrats prevail.  In elections of type (2), Republicans win.

I thought everybody knew that.  We learned it our very first day in journalism school.

Election 2009: Test of Obama clout in NJ, Virginia

By LIZ SIDOTI, AP National Political Writer Liz Sidoti, Ap National Political Writer – 14 mins ago

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's political clout was on the line Tuesday as Virginia and New Jersey chose governors in contests that could serve as warning signs for Democrats about the public's mood heading into an important midterm election year.

Elsewhere, Maine voters weighed in on same-sex marriage in a closely watched initiative, and New York and California picked congressmen for two vacant seats. A slew of cities selected mayors, and Ohio voted on allowing casinos.

One year after Obama won the White House in an electoral landslide and Democrats expanded their majorities in Congress, much of the focus was on Virginia and New Jersey, where Democratic control was in danger despite hefty campaigning by Obama himself.

The outcomes were sure to feed discussion about the state of the electorate, the status of the diverse coalition that sent Obama to the White House and the limits of the president's influence on the party's base of support — as well as on moderate lawmakers he needs to advance his legislative priorities.

As if on cue, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid indicated Tuesday that lawmakers may not complete health care legislation this year, missing Obama's deadline on his signature issue and pushing debate into a congressional election year.

Democratic victories in both Virginia and New Jersey in 2005 preceded big Democratic years nationally in 2006 and 2008.

Tuesday's impact on Obama's standing and on the 2010 elections can easily be overstated. Voters are often focused on local issues and local personalities. Indeed, most people in Virginia and New Jersey, say they're not casting ballots because of their feelings about the president.

Yet, national issues, like the recession, were clearly a factor, with voter attitudes shaped to some degree by how people feel about the state of their nation — and their place in it.
