Skullduggery: Democrat Admits to Placing Robocall That Slammed Republican Christie, Promoted Independent Spoiler Dagget

But we'll still be hearing about those calls from nobody of any importance spreading rumors about John McCain's black baby, even though that is now ten years in the past and there are plenty of fresher, more Democratic examples of dirty-pool robocalling.

The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.

A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.

Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The call angered Republicans and further fueled conspiracy theories that Daggett is in cahoots with the Corzine camp. A disclaimer at the end says it was paid for by Victory ’09, “a project of the NJDSC” (Democratic State Committee), and gave the committee’s Trenton address.

Daggett, for his part, disavowed the call.

“Voters hate robocalls. This is just another instance of the dishonest ways Democrats and Republicans use to win campaigns and to fool voters,” he said in a statement this afternoon. “It is little wonder more and more voters are rejecting these kind of desperate dirty tricks and turning to my campaign for a positive message about how to make New Jersey more affordable and competitive.’’

Before the Democrats owned up to it, Daggett media advisor Bill Hillsman said the call might be Republican trick to generate a sympathetic newspaper story.

Daggett is pretty much a Democratic operative. He's running because Corzine is too weak to win a majority, and his presence in the race is only to help Corzine eke out a slim plurality.

2 Daggett joined the race to suck votes from Christie. But what he seems to be doing now is getting people who refuse to vote for a Republican, but don't want to vote for Corzine.

Yeah, Dems always engage in projection.  They are the ones that engage in "tricks" and yet they always accuse us of that.  (Usually prefaced with the word "dirty").  Unbelievable.

5 O/T:  funtimes:  "Multiple Post sources independently confirmed to POLITICO that Roig-Franzia got hit while defending colleague Monica Hesse from harsh criticism leveled by her editor, Allen.

Allen, according to the Washingtonian, had told Hesse that a piece she had written was “the second worst story I have seen in Style in 43 years."

Roig-Franzia, also working a story with Hesse that ran Saturday, told Allen not to be such a “c—sucker."

Allen swung twice, with one punch hitting Roig-Franzi, according to sources. Next, staffers on the 4th floor —including Brauchli, whose office is temporarily across from the Style section — jumped in to break up the altercation."

I'm not naive enough to think that there should be no dirty in politics.......but the Democrats take it to new levels. levels that make a mockery of the Democratic system.

In an ideal world, people that will do anything, and I mean literally anything, to win should by definiton be barred from holding public office. I know I sound like those idiots who think John Lennon's "Imagine" is a basis for a foreign policy.

Wow, you racist bitter clingers are just trying to keep the impoverished, underserved people of color down!  I can feel the harsh jackboot of your vile oppression breaking the collective backs of honest hardworking Americans who are so tired from toiling in back breaking minimum wage labor they can barely make the 20 mile trek back to their squalid homes.  These poor people, through no fault of their own, have no electricity, no indoor plumbing, and no ability to obtain photo ID or register to vote.  Giving them absentee ballots and registering them in drives is the least we can do for them.  Now, run along.  Don't you have a cross to burn on someone's lawn or something?

Every election year we are told that brave men and women died for our right to vote. And they are right. Yet, we, the voting masses, reciprocate this ultimate sacrafice by letting the dead know that we can't get off our asses and vote on a certain day because it interfers with our busy life. I have to work. I have the kids. I gotta go to the mall, store, run errands, watch Oprah or whatever the hell your stupid excuse is. I can't rearrange my vacation. Yeah, I know your dead, and you died defending my right to vote, but gosh darn it, I can't reschedule my book club.

If you can't find an hour out of your life one day every 2 or 4 years to go stand in line, please do everyone a favor and STFU now.

South Carolinian here. During the 2000 primaries I never heard any McCain black baby story, and if I had, I would've figured it was a lie and ignored it.

Anybody who thought such a robocall would work must be the smartest sumbitch on Earth, because he'd have his database tagged so only white voters would get those calls. Because you know, it'd be stupid as hell to unleash those autodialers randomly and broadcast to the relatively large percentage of African-Americans here that a McCain opponent is a verifiable honest-to-God racist.

What turned me off of McCain in 2000 was hearing how he treated his first wife - the one who waited for him while he was in Viet Nam. If memory serves me correctly, she was crippled in an auto accident and John had a choice of assisting her in convalescence and give up some of his political ambitions, or dumping her because she was an obstacle to his lofty career goals.

Jettisoning crippled wives doesn't sit well with us rednecks and hillbillies. Crippling them in the first place, maybe. But don't throw go throwing them in the dumpster like busted coffee makers after you've walloped them into a barely recognizable pulp.

Oh yeah, one more thing: I googled the black baby robocall story, and the earliest references I see are in 2004. If anybody can find a real source that mentions it earlier (and no, some yahoo saying he read it in the Dallas Morning News in 1999 ain't a real source - you need the actual Dallas Morning News article he supposedly got it from), that'd go a long way in helping me believe that bullshit.
