What makes you think Newt is so smart? He always struck me as a blathering boring bullshit artist. He was easily the most pedantic politician of the past thirty years.

He screwed up his political career, let the Clintons make mincemeat of him in 1995/6 and then threw his job away with a public affair. Ral genius, there.
