The Politico Is Pretty Much Just Making Stuff Up Now

It's about Sarah Palin, so that makes it cool I guess.

Consider this headline: "Iowa Republicans wince at Sarah Palin's $100K speaking fee"

A conservative Iowa group’s effort to lure Sarah Palin to its banquet next month has had an unintended effect: Rather than exciting conservatives about the prospect of a visit from the former Alaska governor, the group’s plan to raise a six-figure sum to bring her to the state has GOP activists recoiling at the thought of paying to land a politician's speaking appearance.
The Iowa Family Policy Center’s effort to cobble together $100,000 for Palin would represent a striking departure from customary practice in the first-in-the-nation state, these Republicans say, noting that a generation of White House hopefuls has paid their own way to boost their party and presidential ambitions.

Then way down on page 2, in the 24th paragraph of the article we find this little nugget.

There is no indication that the former governor has requested a fee or that her decision whether to attend is being influenced by whether she’ll be paid.

Hello? What's that again? You spend 23 paragraphs telling us how odd it is for a candidate or prospective candidate to charge for an appearance, how some people are put off by this highway robbery and then you get around to mentioning, Palin never asked for the money and there's no reason to believe it will impact her decision to show up?

Jayson Blair emails to say, "Dude, have some integrity".

Can we start doing posts about how writers for certain online publications might be engaged in illicit behavior? Maybe we could fill up the post with quotes from people about how disappointed they are that some political reporters are having, say, intimate relations with, oh I don't know, farm animals. Then after a few hundred words of this I'll drop in something like, "Of course, there's no evidence any of this happening".

Hey Politico, would that make it ok?

Here's a hint...no it wouldn't.

But I'm not talking about making up stories about Sarah Palin so a whole different set of rules apply. You know, the rules that require you don't make stuff up and hit 'publish'.

Let me admit something...I'm agnostic at best on Palin but if the leftists keep acting like she's Holy Water and they are vampires, I'm gonna have to rethink my position.

See what I did there with the "gonna" and not "going to"...I can fit in.

To be clear...she did not ask for the fee according to her people.

It seems some folks wanted to bring her to their event and have heard her fee is 100K. Well, that's apparently for her speaking gigs, like the one in China. He political efforts are separate and funded by her PAC.

But then "Palin Speaks For Free To Conservatives" isn't exactly an earth shattering scoop.

I don't know how much Jonathan Martin makes but if I were his boss I'd wince every time I signed his check. Unless they want to pay for fiction.

Actually, if I were his boss, I'd be giving him a raise after this story. He did his job. He smeared Sarah Palin, put a meme out there about her in the mind of the public and also put the facts in the story, albeit at the end to CYA.

He did his job perfectly, in the minds of the enemedia.

I've been a cynic of the media for as long as I can remember. Watching the cover for the Clinton years and the knee-jerk hostility towards Reagan during his tenure were really the formative years. I knew then that the media was poisonously Left. It has only gotten worse.

So, I'd have to rephrase the question to, "At what point did you begin to require alternate sourcing to anything everything heard on the MSM?" To which I'd say two weeks in to the war in Operation Iraqi Freedom where it was proclaimed to be a quagmire!!eleventy! It was the Vietnam template redux.

My first source now? Blogs. Some radio but mostly blogs. Infinitely more honest and scrutinizable as a group. The instant access of source data via hyperlink and search engine makes MSM obsolete. The unalterable bias of the MSM makes them ignorable.

That is such a great line. Essentially, Sarah Palin has managed to keep everyone off balance, no one knows what she is going to do next. No one knows if she is even going to run. She is a mystery wrapped in an enigma and managing to keep her privacy and her name in the news, constantly. Friend of mine, a lib, is all excited because ole Levi is making the rounds of the talk shows and apparently "threatening Sarah Palin with divulging some things that she would not like divulged". My response wasn't what they expected I was like "whatever, she will still make oodels of money with her book after the controversial appearance on oprah and people like you, who barely gave her a second look are now chomping at the bit, you will buy her book, you'll see". They said "no, no, levi is finally going to reveal her for who and what she is and then gave me a litany of stuff that "the libs" think he is "holding over Sarah's head" (disgusting thing, btw). That would be fine if he would admit that it is a colossal failure. Unfortunately he has gone the opposite way; he was happy to take full ownership the last time I heard him talk about it. He still talked it up as a great idea.

What he should have done is said that he was wrong to listen to the "experts" who advised him on the benefits of the plan, admitted that it has been a disaster, and then taken ownership of the issue by saying that he's now a first hand witness of the failure of a government mandated and run healthcare system. He could have inoculated himself from this; unfortunately for him, the voters are really PO'd about this government-run health care scam. If there is a bloodletting next year, Romney's opponents are going to hammer him with Romneycare. He really should have disavowed himself from it the first chance he had.

At what point did you begin to require alternate sourcing to anything heard on the MSM? For me, it was the Rathergate stuff.

For me, it was the early 80s and the media's treatment of Reagan.

When Yuri Androprov became head of the USSR, journalist after journalist wrote columns about how he spoke fluent English and was fond of American culture, and was the sort of guy with whom we could cut a deal. And, of course, flogging Reagan for being so obtuse as to think that the head of the KGB was not necessarily to be trusted.

Then The New Republic, which still actually published journalism in those days, traced the story of the "pro-American" Androprov back to an article in an obscure Polish journal, that somehow was picked up by the wires here. All the wise, informed, fact-checking pundits were saying the same thing because they were reading each other!

Then TNR listed the things we didn't know about Androprov:

- When and where he was born.
- Where he went to college.
- What languages he spoke, besides Russian.
- The name of his wife, or if he was married.

In fact, we knew squat about the guy: the western press published this rubbish over and over again because it made Reagan look bad. No other reason.

Ever since then, I assume that was I read or see in the MSM is a lie, unless I can prove otherwise.
