Gates reminds Emanuel/Obama he is Sec Def

About freakin' time, although I can understand him trying to do the right thing and let the CinC make a decision. The problem is Obama sent both his pro back-stabbers, Emmanuel and Axelrod out to try and screw the military on Sunday. Now the last pro has lined up in favor of strategy over politics.

ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY JET – The Obama administration needs to decide on a war strategy for Afghanistan without waiting for a government there to be widely accepted as legitimate, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Monday.

Gates' comments put him at odds with top White House
and NATO officials who are balking at ordering more troops and other
resources to Afghanistan until the disputed election crisis there is
resolved.

Obama's political hacks are starting to assert themselves in areas of military strategy. This Sunday was a blatant attempt to blow smoke and try to pretend the election corruption was a game changer. Hardly, it was par for the course. What is changing is the President's commitment to the promises he made on the campaign and up through August when health care began to crash and burn.

Obama owes the troops that he has sent to war an answer. Do you support our national security or your political aspirations?

Emanuel and Axelrod are two of the slimiest guys I've ever seen involved with White House politics, with the possible exclusion of Paul Begala. Axelrod was on the Sunday talk circuit practically demanding fealty from the media to marginalize Fox News for daring to report things that damaged the Obama agenda. Disgusting. It's clear to anyone with a functioning cortex that Obama and his reptilian staff that they don't give two shits about the military or the war. They want all this icky combat stuff to just go away so they can focus all their attention on whatever radical lefty social engineering project their working on this month.

So, there I was, reading Blackfive, as per my usual blogosphere perusal, I and I see a story about a soldier recently enthroned in the hall of "no greater love", and I feel the wind sting my eyes with the usual misting. I then thought about our great country and its incredible citizens, and what has become of our primary leader. No words can express what most Americans feel upon the knowledge of the donation of the ultimate sacrifice of our compatriots, yet I am ashamed by what our current leader has not done to uphold the dignity and strength and devotion of those who would give everything and anything so that the people that they love would be free. If he seeks reelection, then Afghan. will be the least of his worries, unless he commits a half-ass number of troops, and then gets his ass kicked fully. No, I think that the economy and Iran/Isreal will be the issues that stick in his craw in 2010/12. I still think that Obama's plan (and bet) was to create a national patronage system (see Stimulus, Cap/Trade and NHC) so as to negate issues like the economy/foreign policy/etc. and thus perpetuate his (and other Dems) power. He's run into a major roadblock on NHC, C&T is dead (for now at least) and the Stim pkg is a bust. Sometimes things that look great on paper (or sound great in the classroom) don't really work out in the real world.
