| Gates reminds Emanuel/Obama he is Sec DefAbout freakin' time, although I can understand him trying to do the right thing and let the CinC make a decision. The problem is Obama sent both his pro back-stabbers, Emmanuel and Axelrod out to try and screw the military on Sunday. Now the last pro has lined up in favor of strategy over politics.
Obama's political hacks are starting to assert themselves in areas of military strategy. This Sunday was a blatant attempt to blow smoke and try to pretend the election corruption was a game changer. Hardly, it was par for the course. What is changing is the President's commitment to the promises he made on the campaign and up through August when health care began to crash and burn. Obama owes the troops that he has sent to war an answer. Do you support our national security or your political aspirations?Comments1

I was wondering what, if any, lines Gates wouldn't cross. This might be it.
I bet he's out of there by the end of the year. They'll announce some kind of decision and he'll go saying the new guy should implement it and he never meant to stay on more than a year. Posted by: DrewM. at October 19, 2009 10:38 PM (ur6Ar) 4

Do you support our national security or your political aspirations? I'm assuming this is rhetorical. Emanuel and Axelrod are two of the slimiest guys I've ever seen involved with White House politics, with the possible exclusion of Paul Begala. Axelrod was on the Sunday talk circuit practically demanding fealty from the media to marginalize Fox News for daring to report things that damaged the Obama agenda. Disgusting. It's clear to anyone with a functioning cortex that Obama and his reptilian staff that they don't give two shits about the military or the war. They want all this icky combat stuff to just go away so they can focus all their attention on whatever radical lefty social engineering project their working on this month. So, there I was, reading Blackfive, as per my usual blogosphere perusal, I and I see a story about a soldier recently enthroned in the hall of "no greater love", and I feel the wind sting my eyes with the usual misting. I then thought about our great country and its incredible citizens, and what has become of our primary leader. No words can express what most Americans feel upon the knowledge of the donation of the ultimate sacrifice of our compatriots, yet I am ashamed by what our current leader has not done to uphold the dignity and strength and devotion of those who would give everything and anything so that the people that they love would be free. My heart and soul to those, like me, who have served. Would that I, like them, be able to rise to the sacrifice of unquestioning devotion. Heinlein had the correct answer, you cannot govern, nor appreciate, what you have not sacrificed for. Our current leader is a non-sacrificing tool, who would not know loss or pain if it bit him in the as.*....... Posted by: MAJ O at October 19, 2009 11:06 PM (rhqHD) 15

I have heard rumblings of insurrection within the squadron bar--granted, a few shots of Weed open up the bagel hole. It stands to reason that if StayPuft and Sasquatch want to assemble a bench full of czars with infinite mandates, then we may need to remind him that this is a democracy republic. Here in Virginia, one of the local fighter jocks actually appeared in a campaign circular for a Democratic candidate, in uniform with name tag displayed. I was in the same squadron back in the day, and if our old squadron commander knew he had committed this buffoonery, he'd have him keelhauled. The only reason BarriO left Gates in was to give an illusionary street cred to the right that he actually cares about the fight in the Mid-east. He doesn't care and he will use that fight to weaken America...just as the leftards used Vietnam. They hate this country. Soon Gates will leave and it will be some DemocRATick hack that will tear at the DoD structure from the inside. The traitorous Kenyan has already allowed more defense related technology transfer to the Chicoms....the same MO as Bubba the Traitor did.
This Precedent makes me puke. Posted by: torabora at October 19, 2009 11:12 PM (1SRYs) 20

So now we know, for sure, that Obama is looking to abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban. Corruption in Afghan politics is at least as common as corruption in Chicago politics, something that never bothered the One. Look for US troops to be screwed (money for training, fuel and ammo will go to buy votes instead) until everyone says bring them home.

Since Obama has never fully understood national security the answer is political aspiration. Our commander in chief is a cub scout, who has studied the eagle scout manuaul without ever earning a badge. He has surrounded himself with other real cub scouts. And they like the cookies and Kobe Beef that the won gives them. Shit they don't even have to build a campfire. There's a fricking thermostat that takes care of any wood gathering responsibilities. I fully expect Obama to give a speech in the near future that he is dissapointed that the head rag heads around the world lied to him and now that he is quite clear that they are Indian Givers he is going to take harsh action against, friend and fo, starting with his fellow citizens, just to teach the world that we can put our money where our rhetoric is, no to our seniors, no to our children, no to our honor as a nation that we have pledged to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, no to our future combat systems, no to our space program, no to our missle defense program, no to our junior members of nato, no to our, ah fuck it. For The Precedent, the dithering IS the strategy. You just have to remember who he's really fighting against. He's been intentionally ignoring Afghanistan since he got in. That is exactly what he wants to do. And when he is forced to put some troops in, finally, he'll put in as few as possible, to drag things out longer and longer. This is the strategy.

If he seeks reelection, then Afghan. will be the least of his worries, unless he commits a half-ass number of troops, and then gets his ass kicked fully. No, I think that the economy and Iran/Isreal will be the issues that stick in his craw in 2010/12. I still think that Obama's plan (and bet) was to create a national patronage system (see Stimulus, Cap/Trade and NHC) so as to negate issues like the economy/foreign policy/etc. and thus perpetuate his (and other Dems) power. He's run into a major roadblock on NHC, C&T is dead (for now at least) and the Stim pkg is a bust. Sometimes things that look great on paper (or sound great in the classroom) don't really work out in the real world. Posted by: volfan at October 20, 2009 08:46 AM (lF49h) 54
