i hate espn because they have ruined sports highlights. I used to tune in on tuesday to get recaps on all the nfl games, but there are two problems. The first is the anchors treat the show like an inside joke, ripping off references that are only funny to the staff at espn, or so old and tired that they are unbearable to hear. I mean Scott whats his name has made a career of saying "booyaa" and "cooler than the other side of the pillow". Really?

Second, they don't even show that many highlights. Being from pittsburgh, i love big defensive plays and hits, but not only is that asking too much. They don't even show all the touchdowns from every game. Is it too much to ask to show all the tds that took place in a game??

I wasn't just banned from LGF (a site I had only posted coments on a few times over the years -- I'd registered there around Rathergate but only posted maybe 20 comments total).   No, I wasn't just banned.  I was blocked from even VIEWING his site without the use of proxies!  LOL!  

What did I do to get tha reaction out of him?  Not really anything that I can figure out, as I only stpped by his web site maybe once a month.  Okay, I didn't agree that the Tea Partiers were a bunch of violent Nazis.  Charles instantly down-dinged me, and I dared t post a follow-up comment where I expanded upon my disagreement that the Tea Parties are not fairly described as a bunch of violent Nazis.  This got my comment deleted within minutes, and my account deleted as well.  Then, as far as I can tell, he must've been concerned that I was doing searches through his archives to back up one of the points in my comment (that one could use his methods to demonize him just as easily as he tries to demonize others).   It turns out that Charles obsessively monitors searches on his site, and he'll block you from viewing his site without a proxy if he notices you going back through his archives. 

He really is a mentally sick blogger.  And what is astounding is how intolerant and hateful he is of anyone who has even a slightly different opinion than his own.  I remember high Hewitt once saying of Andrew Sullivan that Andrew Sullivan is a hater and you can never trust a hater.   I think that is even more true of Charles Johnson.  He is a very hateful person and that's why it turns out he is capable of any smear, libel, and lie. 

BTW, the thing that first brought LGF to my attention was Rathergate.  And his visual demonstration of how the CBS documents were fakes WAS helpful in that story.  But everyone should remember this:  He wasn't the one who discovered that those documents were fake, even though he tries to take all the credit for it.  The person who actually first sent out the alert that they were fake was someone on the Free Republic, a site Charles Johnson was reading at the time but today calls a fever swamp of Neo-Nazis.

Many millions of people listen to Rush every day.  If he were spewng racism on his show, we'd all know it.   I'm only able to catch Rush in small doses, but I've been catching him in small doses since around 1991. I've never heard any racism from him.  

Charles Johnson is so wacko he has deleted all links to Pajamas Media (a site he helped create) under they claim that Pajamas Media is down with white supremacy.  Most of what is going on with Charles Johnson is just personal beefs.  He seems to think that any time he has a personal beef with someone he can use his blog to smear them as Neo-Nazi racists.  Charles Johnson thought the internet would make him famous, but now it turns out he's headed towards the dustbin of blogosphere history.  So he's lashing out as he goes down the tubes.  But the dustbin of internet history is where he's going.  Also, no one listens to your jazz recordings, asshole.  They're headed to the dustbin too.

No, he didn't actually unravel the Rather memos... he took credit for some freeper's excellent .gif proving the story false, but Charles is a smart guy.

So... Charles knows that he's looking really silly lately.  He knows his blog is Obama defense, generally ridiculous, and making overly hostile and logically awful arguments just about 100% of the time.

He knows that this is boring.  And he knows that banning even mild disagreement (such as clicking the thumb down icon) is even more boring.

And he knows this is costing him a lot of money by reducing the number of views of ads on his site.

So what's up?  Charles was able to disagree with the 'right' all the time in a way that was funny and intelligent and persuasive... right up until the Obama administration took over.  Why can't he do that now?  He knows his arguments are laughed at, not respected by the left or right, and cost him money.

There's some other force at work, pulling at these elements like an invisible black hole.  We can tell it's there, but we can't see it.  Is LGF up to some undercover expose of liberal payoffs?  Far fetched as hell, that is.  Has he simply been paid off by the left, and is cashing his checks with the minimal effort his blog now exhibits?  Well, that's not so unlikely.  Kos, Atrios, and many other big blog names have taken money.  Soros is much richer today than ever, thanks to the Dollar imploding, and he likes to fund huge internet efforts such as factcheck, mediamatters, moveon, the annennberg's awesome site (it really is helpful sometimes).  The money is there.  The motive is there.  And the effect is obvious.

I think it's reasonable to assume LGF has been paid to change their views.  It doesn't appear super impressive or persuasive, but is Mediamatters or Moveon changing minds?  No... those sites start huge fights.  Persuading takes time and is a losing proposition for astroturfers. 

I hope Charles Johnson realizes that the USA is in trouble these days, and he's not helping.  He's not the only blogger that got screwed by Pajamas Media cutting their ad program.  There are bigger things than the dollar, and I thought most major bloggers, on both sides, were well aware of that.

The scariest part is that so very many so-called American citizens appear to approve of this coup d'etat. There can be no doubt that we are in for a wild and often heartbreaking ride. I do not fear for myself, but my heart aches for the young people in my family and in my life that are near and dear to me. I think a lot of people are sincerely personally hurt by what they thought was a friend, albeit the impersonal internet type, that stabbed them in the back.  I know Ace was respectful of LGF, even pretty recently, giving him some benefit of the doubt.  now, I see LGF has extremely harsh and unfair things to say about this blog and many others.  They actually went onto Hot Air and posted the N word... and Allahpundit and Charles always seemed to be friends to me.

I'm glad you weren't snookered, but a lot of people respected LGF.  This change indeed cost a lot of influence in the world, and some amount of money too.  There's a real explanation, other than Charles went crazy.  The shift from news to attacking all Obama critics, and the shift from arguments to angry crazed rants that are transparently weak, was instant and not some natural thing.

It wouldn't take much money to pay off such a site.  I bet, if you offered Ace $10,000 a month, he would be sorely tempted to let go of the website.  If he wasn't honest, perhaps even tempted to let you post under his alias.  Imagine you were a billionaire, and your main enemies were Rush, Fox News, and the right wing blogosphere.  In order to protect your hugely profitable left wing corruption (say... if you were General Electric or George Soros), you start Media Matters to bash Rush, astroturf etc for FNC, and tried to peel off a couple of leading Right Wing blogs.

the kind of money it would take to do that isn't unrealistic at all.  In fact, it would surprise me if no one has attempted this kind of thing.  The only thing that might prevent it is fear of exposure.  Perhaps Charles is in debt, and this is his way out.

I freely admit I'm speculating.  But there's so much money involved in fooling the public... a lot of grass roots momentum is against them, and LGF was a major player that did not accidentally forget how to influence and blog.

Ever wonder why Ace has so much trouble finding sponsors because of cuss words, but far more profane places like KOS have no such problems?  There's money to be made if you will join the government/pals of Obama machine.

But things changed very suddenly on the LGF blog.  The blog is now so ridiculous it comes across almost as a satire.  You could have argues passionately against Charles a year ago.  Now, you are banned for clicking the thumb down.  Charles supported many of the ideas he specifically bashes now, and vice versa.  He is completely and unbelievably without any criticism of Obama... this is the big red flag for me.  It's obvious to left and right wing that criticism of the administration is what interests readers.  That's also where the news is.  Both sides would have to try very, very hard to not find anything to complain about with Obama, just as both sides found plenty to be irritated at Bush about.  LGF has managed to have nothing to say disagreeing with Obama, and many items every day bashing anyone who criticizes Obama.

Perhaps that's all that happened.  I don't know, though.  It seems so sudden and timed very close the power shift.  Charles isn't random... he's just made a 180 in key areas.  Not just in opinion, but in standards.  His old standby: 'comments can't be used against the blogger' has shifted to 'post fake comments and use them against the blogger'.  It's hard to believe it's even the same person making these arguments.

So if he's crazy, it's not something minor.  We're talking about a very unusual illness.  I think a more likely explanation is that someone offered a relatively paltry sum to a blogger when online advertising softened considerably.  In exchange, LGF now parrots the Obama talking point and attacks all Obama critics.

I've seen Charles attempt to convince people.  He can be very dedicated to getting the facts right... to making sound arguments... to being intelligent and even fair.  Those skills are not being used, and if they are just gone now, that's a real tragedy and I sincerely wish Charles gets some help.

I left around early February. I had noticed some changes in tone as easrly as Spetember of 2008 that I did not care for but yeah...it got more and more pathological over time. I used to be one of the lizards in the sense that I enjoyed Forkum and Cox making fun of David Ikes idea that  we are secretly ruled by shape changing reptillian aliens who came from the star Sirius in our pre history. It was cute. I liked hanging out and talking to the regulars and commenting on stories. I didn't care for the term idiotarian much since it seemed to be an all purpose word for bad. I liked the term moonbat and Fisking and such. It was cool. For a while. It got weird but it was still okay. I could skip all the Vlams Bellang stuff (which sounded kind of questionable).  

Then we had the election. People were mad and scared and  wondering what would happen now. Charles was telling them to shut up and that they were nuts and he had people jumping in. People were getting banned for what seemed like fairly reasonable questions. Then we had people whoa rgued with Charles occasioanlly made examples of in posts where 'someone' had turned out to have some questionable connection to something Charles had decoded and thought was icky. Christ that was weird. He started talking about the Republicans running out the uppity Christian right and teaching the rest to be silent and unseen until it was time to vote so the moderates would like Republicans more. Then he started mentioning which Republicans were nuts and what planks the party should chuck to gain credibility. Suddenly anyone he disagreed with had ties to some naughty or crazy thing. Everyone was a Ron Paul stooge.  

Charles was suddenly ranting that virtually EVERYONE he used to link to were either NAZI'S or playthings of nazi's  and his sudden desire to contantly rant against creationism. He started snapping at anyone who complained about stuff Obama did and starting to call just about anyone he disagreed with a kook or unhinged. He said that the Christian right had lost the election for McCaine. Well somehow all of that put together finally told me that there was something VERY wrong about this "transformation". And I just left. There wasn't anything for me to like about the site anymore.

The wiorst bit was his crusade against "creationists" and the supposedly nefarious theocratic totalitarianism movement of Intelligent Design that made Republicans look feeble minded or insane and made everyone hate them.

I don't embrace the idea of a 6000 year old Earth but I have no problem with coexisting peacefully and respectfully with people that do. It's not like creationists are half as scary as North Korea, Russia, China, or Iran! And Charles was really being hateful about it. He wasn't trying to be persuasive. He was just mocking and sneering kind of ecstatically satisfied with being that way like he was finally going after some guy who stole his childhood seetheart from him. It was WEIRD. 

Personally I don't care if people are creationist or if a brief and polite 'mau mau' is said towards creationists regarding skepticism in the introduction to a biology or astronomy or Earthscience class. I really can't imaging someone being functionally unable to do science merely because they were a creationist or had some creationist alternative included in a science class. I also can't imagine that an elementary school science class taught wrongly or correctly will have DICK to do with determining one's high school, college, or post graduate career.

It's just elementary school. It's basic and easy as hell. By itself it is completely insufficeint to endow kids with important complex work relevant skills. The idea is to get you started with reading, writing, forming cogent arguments, meeting a schedule, finding a little bit about the culture and history to get a common sense of 'who we are' that you can share with others, and learning arithmentic so you can learn the more useful and pertinant stuff later on. In fact about the only way it could have an impact is if there were some institutionalized bias against creationists or people who had a creationist element to their early education.

Worrying about being infilitrated by a stealthy elementary school 'ID' agenda at the local or state level is a really stupid non-issue beyond the waste of money aspect. It is not an insidious foot in the door (or slippery slope if you prefer ) to a wild eyed Baptist 'taliban' somehow gaining absolute authority in America and setting us back seven hundred years before telling us that the Earth is flat and the center of the universe and there is no vacuum and burning alive anyone who disagrees like poor Torichelli.

People won't just accept that any more than they are easily accepting socialism right now. Think about how much spinning and mobilizing and economic sabotage and other crap is going on just to get us to a post-national Euro-socialism right now after decades of socialist and moral relativist crap being shat on the kids in the schools. And THAT is in the chaotic and demoralizing circumstances immediately following a major finnancial mess. Such sea changes do not happen quickly or easily mpr are they always permanent when shoved through by narrow margins due to legilative trickery or even fraud. Local goofballs wanting a tiny bit in an evolution lecture are surely among the LEAST of our problems. It's like worrying about your athlete's foot while being worried by angry dogs. It makes no sense to me. It is a set of strange priorities stemming from a totally alien mindset that I cannot reproduce in my own head.

Personally, I don't agree with ID or young Earth creationists on very much but I'm not going to shit on them and tell them how stupid they must be because they believe one thing and I believe another. The truth is that I DON'T KNOW. Also I think it's actually GOOD for science to not have a free ride when it comes to telling us things that go against our own experience or intuition. Scientists NEED to be able to explain things and answer criticism and persuasively and politely defend their own assertions and research without resorting to calling those who disagree with them heretics, imbeciles, medievals, or nutballs. If they just autocratically gang up and shout people down then fuck them. They are nothing but hostile self absorbed bullshit artists trying to avoid a confrontation on any terms but those dictated by their own stuck up sniffy diatrabes.

Real scientists don't need to do that shit and don't think that their job is to make people believe as they do if they don't want to. They accept their place as one of many useful forces in society, and do not seek to unilaterally reorder society based on their own quaintly 'state of the art' models of life the universe and everything(which will likely fall out of favor just like past theories did). They are not hungry to discredit and replace any perceived competitors through such means as fraud, intimidation, or being snooty.

They do not favor or accept theories merely because 'they are beautiful' or expect to receive credit for creating absurd notions that might one day "bootstrap" themselves into having some empircally measurable signficance if we only take thems seriously enough and develop exotic tehcnology. They do not attempt to come up with a scientist's current philosophy of everything based mostly on the aesthetics of the age they are living in. That is not really science but supposedly that kind of shcool of thought should carry the same authority as doing real science does because it is favored by scientists. Real scientists do not implicitly or explicitly discourage rigorous fact checking of each other's work merely because the risk of peril to our life on  Earth is so great that unity of purpose is required even if a theory turns out to be wrong and very expensive and harmful to implement. They do not pick on and slander a group for seeming backwards or feel entitled to set the agenda for rest of the world merely because they are 'all sciencey'. They do not think that a theory is made more credible by a document of concensus or that "the science is in and the time for arguments is over." They do not characterize their opponents as quasi criminal "deniers" and deviants. In short, a scientist who feels enlightened and elevated above his fellow man due to the title of scientist, and has abandoned humility, civility, and the capacity to doubt himself, or give any other point of view some respect, is merely a power hungry asshole, a poser, a camera hogging psudeo-celebrity, and by extension an untrustworthy idiot who can be bought or otherwise easily corrupted by prizes, promotion opportunities, flattery, research money, social connections, fame, or offered testimony of credibility on some pet issue or other.

 Maybe I've been banned since Feb or not. Who cares. It's a total crap pit now.
