Who Came in Second?

A lot of people are asking that. Wedon't know who placed, but here's some of the rest of the field.

Chinese Human Rights Activist Hu Jia - imprisoned for campaigning for human rights in the PRC, not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.

Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. -- not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama. (Not to mention the symbolic value of awarding a Chinese dissident on the 20th Anniversary of the Tianenmen Square Massacre.)

Greg Mortenson, founder of the Central Asia Institute has built nearly 80 schools, especially for girls, in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past 15 years - not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.

Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, a philosophy professor in Jordan who risks his life by advocating interfaith dialogue between Jews and Muslims, also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.

Afghan human rights activist Sima Samar. She currently leads the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and serves as the U.N. special envoy to Darfur and is apparently also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.

But come on. Not a single one of them has ever been on the cover of People Magazine.

Update: Someone mentioned this (forget who) -- Thank God the Nobel Committee didn't use its power of publicity to highlight the travails and triumphs of those people, and use the spotlight to illuminate human rights abuses, or anything.

Thank God Himself they gave the prize to someone who really needs a bit of additional media hype.

62 A toast of three cups of tea in your honor, Mr. Mortenson.

Just a slight reminder, Mortensen schlepped around the world garnering money for his projects, slept in his van to save money, greatly admired Mother Theresa for accepting money for her orphanage even from drug dealers and a host of otherwise "evil" people because, as she said ,God doesn't care where the money comes when it serves his purposes.... and then.....

refused to accept $2Million from the pentagon for his schools.  It was too distasteful for him to accept Bush money.  How many schools could that have built at @10k a crack?

He's gone slightly further with the 'Blame America' shit, but Clinton and Carter were both falling all over themselves to kiss ass with the world.  Kerry would have done all this in a minute, falling back on his Winter Soldier schtick on a World Tour.  Democrats always defer to the UN, conciliate, appease, crawl, ignore the problems.  What would John Edwards be doing any differently?

And, while I bring the subject up, if Obama is the freakin' genius he's supposed to be, wouldn't he have some new ideas instead of the standard liberal boilerplate he parrots reflexively?  I mean, where are Jug-ears grand visions, other than the standard Left-wing America-hate?

Let's analyze: A three-day weekend is exciting when you're 8, but I don't know how novel it is any more. (Seriously, kids have a week with five full days of school maybe 18 times a year.) But does President Obama have Columbus Day off, too? I know he works for the government, but sheesh.

"Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning," Obama said. He described his interaction with his two daughters.

No? Again, to be serious, this guy is the President of the United States, for cryin' outs. He should be in the loop on everything. Everything! I don't expect Obama to learn anything from his 11-year-old daughter, not even the trivial, mundane aspects of her personal life.

It should ignore people who have done good work, but haven't gotten the acclaim they deserve?  It should deliberately help ignore the good works of those who haven't gotten acknowledgment for their actions?

What the hell is the point of that?  What good does it do to run along with that as their ideal and goal?  Thanks for clarifying that the Nobel Peace Prize is, and should be, a complete waste of time.

 No surprise.

No, it's not. They awarded prizes to Arafat and Gore. America haters all.

 Guess what you're wrong.

I think you meant "Guess what? You're wrong." About what? His worthiness? What has he done? Especially in the 11 days he was president before the nomination?

And the rest of the educated world proves your wrong.

That's wouldn't be you because you, 1. Began a sentence with "And", and 2. meant "you're wrong". Silly. The rest of the educated non-america hating non-socialist world agrees. Including Obama, except he's a socialist and an America hater/apologist.

BTW should have a comma after it. "Do" should not be capitalized. I have no intention of "doing the world a favor", America does quite enough of those already. We should do much less for "the world" since they don't appreciate it.

Dick Cheney wouldn't accept an award which put him in the same category as Al Gore and Arafat.

182 167 Jane. It is. And its one of my favorite books. Way before i ever met my nice marine i started studying Central asia, and specifically Turkmen. Theres a significant minority of turkmen in Afghanistan by the way, i speak their language very badly. I love the subject but the people are very different from anything those liberals ever met.
Years later i found this book. Its WONDERFUL. Describes these people pretty accurately, good and bad. Met the author at a party just as a bump into a stranger kind of thing. Neat guy. Really understands whats going on there. Hes not a dipsit liberal, even if he is an idealist he works with what hes got. when you hear a girls school has been blown up, its probably one of his.

when i hear O wants to make the TAliban part of the Afghan Govt i get sick. he must really really hate women.

example: Taliban lock women up in the houses. they used to take care of the animals and the men do it very badly now because its womens work and being good at womens work is shameful. because of this, and ignorance in general, alot of animals die. This makes the people much much poorer.

a few weeks ago i bumped into an army vet who is part of the effort to rebuild afghanistan, and teach these people how not to kill their stock.  Hes helping undo Taliban damage and will be a BIG target.

these womens schools are big targets. (they dont just teach little girls) these people are the good guys and do more for peace than O ever will.  those schools also have womens centers with sewing machines so the women can make things the men can sell, helping to aleviate some of their horrible poverty.

BTW from what i heard that pentagon money came with strings. I wouldnt take it either.

184 PS really is a brain-dead little POS.  Even the other lefty retards are guffawing and shaking their heads over this.  Even Obama's usual amen corner are puzzled.  But there's little "Palinsteele" shaking his pudgy fist and yelling "He deserved it!  He's the greatest ever!  Leave Obama alone!"

Someday PS is going to meet a woman who is either gullible or stoned enough to sleep with him, and the next morning he'll discover that masturbating to his old Obama portrait just doesn't carry quite the frisson it once did.

God Bless Obama
apologies to Irving Berlin

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a man that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a prez so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God bless Obama and,
His Nobel prize
Stand beside him, and guide him
With the help of some Norwegian guys
For achievements, in the future
We applaud him, his wife, too
God bless Oba-a-ma, For what he'll do

God bless Oba-a-ma, For what he'll do

190 Since the Nobel Peace Prize committee is made up of members of the Norwegian Parliament, the Prize has become Norway`s way of becoming a voice in world politics.

Norway is a far out of the way, cold, wet, small, nobody country in the world and their egoistic politicians must feel slighted for no one listening to their lofty, intellectual Nordic wisdom. Hence they use the Nobel Peace Prize as their only way to inject their politics onto the world stage.

Instead of calling it the the "Nobel Peace Prize", they should change the name to the "Norwegian Politics Prize", given to the person or group who most reflects the political opinion of the Norwegian parliament.
