Genius: Captain Wonderful's New Solution for Afghanistan Commands Seven Percent Support

From Goldfarb's Tweet: A USA Today poll says Joe Biden's brilliant strategy of leaving our troops to twist without reinforcement or plan of victory commands 7% support.

Pull out? 38%.

Give them the reinforcements and resources they need? 48%.

So Captain Wonderful, in his quest to vote present on everything, is currently trial-ballooning a plan hated by 90% of the public.

Even in his pandering he's incompetent.

Jim Geraghty has tallied up several, but by no means all, of Obama's "We're going to beat hell out of the Taliban, I swear" statements. I hope he won't mind me stealing them:

Then-candidate Barack Obama, July 15, 2008:

Our troops and our NATO allies are performing heroically in Afghanistan, but I have argued for years that we lack the resources to finish the job because of our commitment to Iraq. That's what the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said earlier this month. And that's why, as President, I will make the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban the top priority that it should be. This is a war that we have to win.

And then in August, before the VFW:

This is the central front in the war on terrorism. This is where the Taliban is gaining strength and launching new attacks, including one that just took the life of ten French soldiers. This is where Osama bin Laden and the same terrorists who killed nearly 3,000 Americans on our own soil are hiding and plotting seven years after 9/11. This is a war that we have to win.

And then in his convention address:

I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

And then on October 22:

Abroad, we need a new direction that ends the war in Iraq, focuses on the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban, and restores strong alliances and tough American diplomacy.

But now we're told that there is a "good war" in Afghanistan (against Al Qaeda) we must fight while surrendering the "bad war" in Afghanistan (against the Taliban). Perfectly similar, as Allah pointed out, to Obama's last talk-tough-even-while-proposing-surrender formulation, that one about the "good war" in Afghanistan and "bad war" in Iraq.

And yes, as he says, soon Obama will begin talking about the "good war" against the hardliners in Al Qaeda, while surrendering the "bad war" against the Al Qaeda moderates.

CBS' woman in Kabul rips the new non-strategy to shreds, and calls it a pure "fantasy" that we can somehow take the fight to Al Qaeda while ceding the entire country to them. Logan also wants to know what six years of "diplomacy" with the Taliban have gotten us thusfar.

Oh -- also there: Obama's sudden discovery that the Taliban is law-abiding and peaceful just happens to coincide with the Taliban's latest press release that they're law-abiding and peaceful.

2 Let me be clear: what we need to do is fight the good war against the far right extermist Al-Queda while we responsibily end the war against the otherwise good Al-Queda. And when I say far right extremist Al-Queda, what I mean is Sarah Palin.  And possibly Todd.

Posted by: Dang Straights at October 08, 2009 09:04 PM (/hK6d)

The most appalling matter for me is the inability or unwillingness to lead.  We have thousands of young men in the field risking their all to execute the orders of the Commander-in-Chief.  Unfortunately, there is no discussion about victory, but some wussified concept about containment.

In the later stages of Vietnam, it's an established fact that some line units were no longer actively seeking to engage and kill the enemy.  Many field commander's decided it was better to save the lives of their men than to continue perpetuating a lost cause.

For me personally my last tour began in January '69, and I willingly sought to do my part with maximum effect.  However, within 90 days or so of arrival back in country, it was apparent the effort would be all for naught.  The next nine months were spent flying missions, some dangerous and with the potential for loss of life and aircraft, but my mental state was on preservation of life and assets, and not the hot persuit of enemy forces.

What concerns me about Afghanistan?  After eight years of a no-win strategy, we may see the Vietnam "take few risks and go home" play out again.

Using the left's definition as (a), the Taliban would be (b). To a T.

We demanded a denazification of postwar German governments so as to never again offer that ideology a safe harbor in the public arena where it festered. We should expect no less in this case. No 'good Taliban' and 'bad Taliban', just as no one wanted a 'good Nazi' after 1945.

Are you a complete and total idiot?

If, due to your actions, another attack occurs on US soil, due to your stupidity, I promise you that not only will you be a single term president, and remembered as the WORST president in US history (Step aside Jimmuh Carter, the previous worst President!), not to mention lose the 2010 midterm elections. But, We, the PEOPLE ( oh forgot that part of the constitution, did you?), will do everything possible, within our power to not only have you impeached, but to bring you up on charges of neglecting your duty of protecting and preserving the Constitution of the US, but also of failing to protect and defend the citizens of the US. We WILL see you arrested, tried, convicted and serving time in the harshest prison that we can possibly find.
Follow your heart, idiot, but be aware that your time in power is short, very short, and WE the people have very long memories!

a very pissed off citizen who will do ALL that he can to see you imprisoned for your failures.
And no, by my sending this email, this does NOT give you permission to contact me with your bullshit emails telling me what a great job that you are doing.
