| Michelle Obama: I Know Many Will Say It Is a Sacrifice for Me and My Friend Oprah to Fly to Europe First Class and Stay in Four-Star Hotels, But I'm Willing to Do That for the Children of ChicagoIn her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”Sacrifice. I've never been proud of my country until now. Copenhagen. Now, true, Copenhagen isn't one of the first ten European cities you think of when you think of vacation paradise. Still -- I'm pretty sure it's not that bad, especially not in early fall. It is, you know, a minor capital, and a major city in an advanced wealthy western nation. I'm pretty sure they wear shoes there, and outbreaks of cholera are mostly contained. And they have some copper statue of a mermaid or somethin'. With breasts. So, right there -- nice statue. Breasts. Worth the trip. What sacrifices will the Divine Miss M sacrifice next? Hobnobbing with socially-conscious rock and roll icons? Jaunting off to Hollywood to fund-raise from beautiful and charismatic celebrities? Appearing as a goodwill ambassador at the Venice Film Festival? What more do you demand of this woman? She's doing all she can. Who warms The Sun? This sounds an awful lot like the hellish exile Roman Polanski spent in Paris. Thanks to Slublog. Credit: "Who warms the Sun?" comes from Just Shoot Me. Nina Van Horne, a similarly cluelessly entitled and self-centered woman, exclaims this in exasperation after doing a similarly minor task for someone (but mostly for herself). In case you don't get it -- she's the Sun, providing warmth and light for us all without complaint. She just wants to know when, o when, anyone will ever warm her, she who makes the flowers bloom and the corn rise tall. Comments1

It is part of the failure of the West to understand that it is at grips with an enemy having no moral viewpoint in common with itself, that two irreconcilable viewpoints and standards of judgment, two irreconcilable moralities, proceeding from two irreconcilable readings of man’s fate and future are involved, and, hence, their conflict is irrepressible.

He is staring up at the sky, the same sky as Michelle Obama and Oprah, and he is amazed that he is allowed to dwell on the same planet as they are. Such sacrifices they make, and with such noble dignity and humility do they make them, how can he a lowly soldier ever deign to repay them?

Senate Majority Leader Reid has stated an intention to take the HELP Committee product and merge it with the Senate Finance Committee markup that is expected to be over by this Thursday or Friday. Their plan is to proceed to a House passed non-health care bill to provide a shell of legislation to give Obamacare a ride to the House and then straight to the President’s desk. http://tinyurl.com/y9jqpzu Posted by: Tami at September 30, 2009 09:46 PM (VuLos) Posted by: Redundancy at September 30, 2009 09:47 PM (nxUYP) 204

"It doesn't pay much."--To a schoolgirl who wanted to be First Lady.
Ralph R. Reiland: There's not a lot of money in Zanesville. ...Still, Michelle Obama stopped by the other day during a campaign visit and warned the locals to not go for the big money. "We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we're asking young people to do," she told a group of women at a day-care center. "Don't go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we're encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond." Faced with allegedly skimpy paychecks in the "helping industry," Mrs. Obama complained that "many of our bright stars are going into corporate law or hedge-fund management." Rather than an honest attempt at providing career advice for the women in Zanesville, few of whom in all likelihood had ever thought about getting a job in hedge funds, it seems that Michelle Obama was simply interested in taking a cheap political shot (at Hillary & Chelsea Clinton). ... What Michelle Obama didn't mention during the Zanesville visit is that she's done pretty well by helping herself to a sizeable slice of "helping industry" money at the University of Chicago Hospital. Employed as vice president for community affairs, Mrs. Obama's annual compensation jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office. That's a $195,052 raise -- not bad for someone who looks down her nose at the "money-making industry." Still, Mrs. Obama complained about the amount of money she has to spend on piano, dance and other lessons for her two children and the burden of paying back student loans from her time at Princeton and Harvard. "The salaries don't keep up with the cost of paying off the debt," she said, referring to the student loans, "so you're in your 40s, still paying off your debt at a time when you have to save for your kids." It's doubtful that many in the audience could feel Mrs. Obama's pain. The median income for female workers in Zanesville last year was $20,142. ............"Sacrifice" ? Marie Antoinette made more sacrifices. Yeah, they were "busted flat" 'til Bill Ayers wrote "Dreams of His Father".

God this woman is a fucking nightmare. All European capital cities with the possible exception of Tirana and Bucharest are utterly enchanting. Old Copenhagen is popularly acknowledged as being one of the most beautiful city centres on the planet. It escaped damage during WW2 and has a wealth of mediaeval and late Nordic Renaissance architecture. It's Scandinavian, which means it is gleamingly clean and unpolluted. There is no possible mechanism by which one can be flown first class to Copenhagen in a 747 to talk bullshit in front of tranzi progressives and plausibly use the word 'sacrifice'. I know we're admonished by Ace against using the nasty four-letter version of lady's front bottom, but jeez. Jimmy Carter may have been a first-class dickhead, but at least Rosalynn wasn't quite so comprehensively rebarbative (and she was a damn sight prettier). The results were intensely painful, yet strangely compelling ,and colourful ,to watch. Much like our current First Lady. Back in my day, though, Copenhagen came in small tins. Copenhagen. Now, true, Copenhagen isn't one of the first ten European cities you think of when you think of vacation paradise. Still -- I'm pretty sure it's not that bad, especially not in early fall. It is, you know, a minor capital, and a major city in an advanced wealthy western nation. True, but visually it's a very stimulating city. Posted by: Lord Nelson at October 01, 2009 08:29 AM (ikWm3) 305
Don't you right wing Neanderthals have ANY idea how dangerous it is to walk those cobblestone streets of Europe in Manolo Blahniks? Lesser women have broken bones doing the same. Michelle Obama is giving it her all, hanging on the cross in Copenhagen for us, just to bring the Olympics home, and all you can do is criticize. Ask not for whom Michelle sips her champagne, she sips for thee.

I've been to Haiti 3 times with medical missionary groups, living in tents on an island and eating out of a can, seeing leprosy, aids and every other disease and deformation. I don't think of that as a sacrifice since I enjoyed it and had a great time on each trip helping some actual poor people with some real problems. She is a piece of sh*t.

I guess the "sacrifice" was that they did not use Oprah's private jet?
One question that must be asked is who owns the land that will be used in Chicago for the Olympic village and other venues if they do get the Olympics. My money is on the same people who are pushing so hard to get the Olympics held in Chicago-Daley, Winfrey, etc.. Posted by: Nahanni at October 01, 2009 10:28 AM (S4wMM) 311

I hate these people. No, I mean it. I hate BO and his Klingon wife. It's wrong to hate children, I guess, but I hate the two little Klingons, too, because they're going to be just like their parents. How much longer is this going to drag on? Why isn't someone somewhere talking about impeaching this Marxist Communist Narcissist? Why are his supporters STILL too stupid/hypnotized/whatever to comprehend the utter hypocrisy these people are displaying? I'm surprised they didn't drag the kids with them for yet ANOTHER vacation at OUR expense. BTW, I hate Oprah, too. Her fawning masses are sickening.
