Obama Can't Make Deadline for Closing Gitmo, and He Takes Full Responsibility on Behalf of Bush, Congressional Republicans, and the American People Whose Fault This Is (Bumped)

Bumped [DrewM.] Ace posted this late last night but it's being talked about this morning, so I bumped in case anyone missed it.

It's Bush's fault because the files were in "disarray" which prevented Obama's people from realizing quickly enough there are monsters at Gitmo that really kinda have to be kept locked up.

And it's your fault for not being a little more chill about terrorists moving in next door and keeping a messy lawn and leaving toys all over and that great big dog that barks all night. All that stuff annoying terrorist neighbors do.

Your bad, dudes. Dicks.

2 Craig said Thursday that some of his early assumptions were based on
miscalculations, in part because Bush administration officials and
senior Republicans in Congress had spoken publicly about closing the
facility. "I thought there was, in fact, and I may have been wrong, a
broad consensus about the importance to our national security
objectives to close Guantanamo and how keeping Guantanamo open actually
did damage to our national security objectives," he said.

"You see, when we on the Obama team said closing Obama was vital to our national security and making the American people safer, we were telling the truth. But those Republicans that agreed with us were lying through their teeth."

So he lied at the UN? So Joe Wilson really COULD just pop up any old time and say "you lie" to Obama, and he'd be right? That settles it. Wilson is Satan.

12 Let me take you back to the distant past and something Barack H. Obama said....

We know the future will be forged by deeds and not simply words.
Speeches alone will not solve our problems – it will take persistent
action. So for those who question the character and cause of my nation,
I ask you to look at the concrete actions that we have taken in just
nine months.
On my first day in office, I prohibited – without exception or
equivocation – the use of torture by the United States of America. I
ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed,

How far in the past is that statement? It was long, long time ago. A day we call Wednesday (aka, the day before yesterday)

Maybe I was wrong about Obama and his respect for the UN. He's willing to lie to them as much as he is to the rest of us.

Plus, when the next terror attack hits -- because they can't all be as stupid as Zazi, and that dumbass in Dallas, and that traitor in Springfield, not forever -- Obama will be able to explain clearly and unequivocally that the blood of the dead is on the hands of Bush, and the American people, and the international community, for not letting him close Gitmo fast enough. 19 The Obama administration reminds me of nothing so much as that old baseball joke.

A playing manager (back in the day, of course) watches his rookie right fielder stagger and wander and almost miss one fly ball after another, until finally in the 7th inning he totally misses one and leads to three runs being scored. The outraged manager pulls the rookie and goes in himself in right field.

Before the inning is over the manager drops two fly balls and lets two more runs score. When the inning is finally over, the manager returns to the dugout, confronts the rookie, and screams, "See!! See!! You f*cked up right field so bad *nobody* can play it!"

So much stupid revealed in the WaPo article. "We assumed that for each detainee there was going to be a file
somewhere," one senior administration official said. "Some of the
intelligence files were not even organized by detainee. You had to go
into a mainframe database and search the name of the detainee to put
together a file. So there were weeks, if not months, of putting
together the files of detainees that then could be reviewed by the
fresh eyes that we wanted."

Aw shit, you mean it wasn't like Mission Impossible where they have these cool folders with big photos of each guy and a little audiotape saying who he was and what he did? Posted by: arhooley at September 25, 2009 02:04 AM (uz2Tm)

23 And they are just now figuring this out after 10 months? They won in November 2008 and knew what they wanted to do then. It's taken them this long to figure out that there are some, you know, actual terrorists locked up in Gitmo and its not safe to just release them onto the streets? And of course if you put them in any American prison they will be able to coordinate terror plots and communicate with other terrorists via their lawyers. And, they will be able to convert other prisoners to Islam and encourage them to wage Jihad in and out of prison. That is why they need to be locked up in Gitmo in the first place, or better yet, executed.
When the terrorists in Gitmo are back out killing Americans, the blood shed will be on Obamas head. Obama and all the bloody fools who voted for him.

88 Craig dutifully throws himself under the bus and, per the Post, will be rewarded with a plum diplomatic assignment in the very near future. Meanwhile, the real blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Republicans in Congress, as Craig points out, the Bush administration, the international community, and the American people -- all of whom have let Obama down.
These people trully have no shame...we are seeing first hand how bannana republic is run.

92 A little math. From Dec. 2006 through Mar. 2007 2558 TONS of weed were seized coming across the border. Lets say that represents 25%. That would mean that 7674 TONS made it across. If jihadists enlisted the Mexican Mafia, who BTW actually control much of the border from the Mexican side, a mere 100 tons of C4 should be relatively easy to get across. That would assume none was intercepted to alert the authorities on this side of the border. So, why not reduce the Border Patrol to nothing, if we're not going to try to control the border anyway?

Uh
huh. So there are what, 200 verminoids being held at Gitmo? And it took
them "weeks, if not months" to search a friggin mainframe database for
200 names? What, they couldn't find anybody who could run simple
database queries? Uhh...what?

But those queries aren't simple -- they're really, really HARD. Did you know mainframes don't even run Leopard, much less Snow Leopard?!?

98 So let me see. The Division of Mainframe Database Searching at the Department of Man-Caused Disaster Prevention appears to be so woefully understaffed since it takes "weeks if not months" to generate files for the Gitmo terrorists, while at the same time Obama is growing the size of the federal government by eleventy billion percent? So can we now declare that Obama's real priorities aren't exactly devoted to counter-terrorism efforts?

101 To empty the prison, the administration will need to find facilities to house 50 to 60 prisoners who cannot be released and who cannot be tried because of legal impediments, according to an administration official. The administration must also win congressional funding for the closure process, find host countries for detainees cleared for release, and transfer dozens of inmates to federal and military courts for prosecution.
Roosevelt solved this problem in a week with the German saboteurs.

108 "The files were in disarray"? Huh? THAT's his excuse?

This is supposed to be the White House and the President of the USA here. The guy is chief executive of the USA and alleged leader of the free world.

If he says "I want all the terrorist files on my desk in 24 hours", 90% of them likely would be, and the rest within at most 7 more days. If they weren't he could/should move ANYWAY.

Forget the fact that he promised to close the facility while running for office and SHOULD have had a plan THEN (ie BEFORE the election).

In the meantime, he's had 9 months to get this done, and that's not even counting the several more months he's had after the election prior to taking office when he could have been looking into doing.

In short, this is stupid excuse-making at its worst. He might as well just say the dog ate the files.

109 >>"We assumed that for each detainee there was going to be a file somewhere," one senior administration official said.

Ahhhhh..... I was wondering how this was all Bush's fault.
