Rasmussen: Few Believe Obamacare Protesters Are Motivated By Race

Democrats are alone when it comes to crying "racism" at every person who opposes the President's attempt to cripple our health care system:

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view. Twenty-two percent (22%) of those in the president’s party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure.

Yikes. Only thirty-nine percent of Democrats believe opposition to Obamacare is a genuine belief and not mostly motivated by racism. That explains why the Democrats didn't bother to sell their plan during the month of August and chose instead to namecall. That thirty-nine twenty-two percent represents the Democratic base which can be counted on to yell "racism" for the next three years no matter what's going on.

It's nice to see the squishy middle -- the "not affiliated" voters -- aren't buying the Democrats' immoral lie. I suspect that they will become less and less likely to put up with it as Obama's term continues and the thirty-nine twenty-two percenters cry racism at any opposition. This racism business was old thirty years ago.

Update:D'oh! Um, I think people who said I got the numbers wrong are racist...

Fixed now. Thanks to I have a Jalen Rose jersey and others.

Umm, I think you mean 22% Gabe. The 39% are those that don't think opponents are racist.

14 That thirty-nine percent represents the Democratic base which can be counted on to yell "racism" for the next three years no matter what's going on.

You got that backwards, Gabe. 39% DON'T automatically cry racism. 22% are the hardcore, batshit lefty racetards with whom there is no reasoning, and there is another 39% of Dems who "aren't sure" but are such flaming pussies that they'll let the fringecore suckwad moonbats bully them into doing whatever they say.

So, effectively, you have 61% of Democrats actively screeching "racism" or nodding their agreement.

15 "That thirty-nine percent represents the Democratic base which can be counted on to yell "racism" for the next three years no matter what's going on." I think you have the numbers switched. If 39% say 'opposition is not racist' and 39% say 'not sure' and 22% say 'racist'.... Then is is 22%, not 39%, that are the Dem base which can be counted on to cry 'racism' at the drop of a hat.

Again the left degrades the horror of real racism.

One of the main reasons I am angry with the left (and with the righties these past 8 or so years) is this hysterical use of extreme language that insults and worse trivializes the real evil of hate and fascism.

They cry 'wolf' so many times that when the real wolves return (and they will), many warnings will be dismissed because of their blind use of this language.

It takes a very small and unimaginative mind to only be able to come up with calling someone a racist because they disagree with you.  They can't defend their policies.  And they can't promote their policies for fear people will learn too much about them and oppose them even more.

The racist argument shows how intellectually unencumbered they are.

A perfect example of Obama's 'stimulus' bullshit:

There's a story linked at Drudge about Massachusetts's program to shelter homeless families at hotels at a cost of $2.8M/month.

Massachusetts is broke and is in desperate need of revenue. But wait, help is on the way: "The state is looking forward to $44.5 million in federal stimulus funds, to be made available next month, to help the homeless."

So that's where the 'stimulus' is being spent. Some economic stimulus, eh?

56 Racism in this nation was first a travesty. Now that all but the clingers have become post-racial, its charges are comedy/farce. This is a fortunate indication that collectively, we've moved on to being a truly post-racial society.

When you encounter a claim of racism in our deconstructed discourse, interpret it as an insight to the speaker's perspective, thought-process and bias. While it no longer signifies society, it signifies he/she who sees it in an experience, akin to a rorschach test.

The best way to treat it is as humor or farce. Respond to it as you would a town crazy screaming about insane delusions in the public commons. Laugh, but move your children away from these deranged souls. Should they unfortunately be in business or community functions, work quietly to have them removed.

57 The audience for the accusation that the opposition is racist isn't the opposition, who can counter the charge to their own satisfaction, but wavering supporters and squishy pseudo-opponents who can be kept in line by the threat of being associated with people "everyone knows" are racists.

The baselessness of the charge is what makes it work. Appeals to reason are irrelevant. Crying racist "wolf" is a social game, not a refutable argument.

Let's not forget what a horror Gore is.

At the moment, its Carter.  His triple combination of high unemployment, high inflation and high interest rates were crippling.  The One hasn't gotten to that point yet, but he is making up ground.  Plus, Carter scores extra points because, unlike most former Presidents, he refuses to ride off into the sunset. Instead, he continues  to stick his nose into everything and give his 2 bit opinion to anyone who will listen.  I suspect Obama will also be this way when he leaves office.  Gore is third. While generally annoying, Gore never had the opportunity to wreck havoc on this country like Carter and Obama.  He is more of the annoying third cousin, spotting off about how smart he is at every family reunion....mostly harmless except for the morning after when you wake up with killer hangover from all the extra beer you drank just to get through a conversation with him.

This is all about intent vs. outcomes.  The 20th century is one enormous example of why collectivism doesn't work and why collectivism is the springboard for great suffering and the advancement of evil.

The left cannot debate outcomes because they have no facts or logic that support their positions.  The left cannot defend the idiocy of their public policy prescriptions because these prescriptions have failed every time they have been tried.

So, they have to shut-down debate based on facts, logic, and reason, and go ad hominem by changing the playing field into a pissing contest of who cares more or who is more mean/racist.

This has been a page in the Democrat playbook for decades. So far, it hasn't cost them anything, and it often provides a boost. The Right needs to stop playing defense on this. "You call me racist to appeal to the racists in your party? I'm calling you on it."

103 I made the stupid rookie mistake of actually reading the first few lines of MoDo's NYT editorial and then clicking over to the comments. Typical liberal mental masturbation..."those mean ole racists only oppose Obama because they are mean, and racist...who could possibly NOT love Obama?" Do these people live in the real world? Do they have any idea how they sound? I joke around about "cult of personality" all the time, but this isn't a joke, and it scares me deeply. How invested do you have to be in your guy to automatically assume that absolutely NONE of the opposition to him has any legitimate basis and is in fact, only caused by hatred for his race? What the fucking hell?

It's nothing but a tactic for shutting up the other side. If they say that we're racist, that makes us bad people, and bam, all of our opposition is baseless and wrong. And then they have the nerve to accuse us of stifling debate. That pisses me off so bad.

They probably brought whatever freight they had to the protests and haven't tried to understand what it was about.

This is what frustrates me the most, I think. I try to be an open-minded person (as in listening to ideas and arguments from those I disagree with, not liberal-esque "open minded") and the complete lack of willingness to even try and understand has me SO steamed. Do all my friends secretly think I'm a racist for opposing Obamacare? Probably, and I won't even get a chance to explain my point of view because of it. They'll just stick their fingers in their ears and go "la, la, la, you're a racist, I don't have to listen to you." That's what this amounts to, really. It's childish and dumb and reminds me every day why I could never be a liberal.

Another part of this "racist" crap is the attempt by the left to abort the language once again. In the 80s, liberals discovered that "quota" was a poision word, politically. Lo and behold, they drop that from their lexicon and began saying words like "diversity" (we need more "diversity").  "Special Interest" also became poisionious, so instead it was "sensitivity" (We need to be "sensitive" to the interest of this group...or that group).  Liberal became a dirty word, so they became "progressives".  The difference here is now, instead of changing the language from a defensive position, they are going offensive, trying to rebrand conservative to racist. This crap must be stopped.

I oppose Obamacare for alot of reason, the main one being we can not afford it. So, when a liberal says your racist, we need to hit them hard and often with all the non-race reasons Obamacare stinks. Pound them again and again.  Do not let them abort the language to damn us all to a lable that doesn't fit.

Was it racism that did in Hillarycare during the first Clinton term?  If it wasn't racism then, why is it racism now?

Also, if racism is largely responsible for this opposition, then how does it explain the ever-growing public dissatisfaction with the various health-care proposals over the last two months?

Remember, the same voters that voted Obama into office less than a year ago now oppose Obamacare by a significant majority.   Are we to believe that racism has massively increased in the USA over just the last two months?

This has been a common tactic of the Communists since the 30s. George Orwell decribed its outcome in his book 1984 as ‘Newspeak”.  Well, Orwellian Newspeak has reached the point now where the people in Washington, primarily the socialists, speak an entirely different language than the rest of the country.

They have redefined words to the point anymore that nothing they say means anything. For some truly good examples call up a few bills from the House and read the title and putpose statements and then compare the contents of the bill to those statements.

And who can forget the most famouse of words of the Newspeak……

“It depends on what the definition of is is”.

Posted by: lincolntf at September 16, 2009 11:07 AM (R7wy8)

127 Bigotry and bigot are two other words that were abandoned in favor of racist and racism. Add in prejudice also.

They also began and spread the meme that racism is impossible for minorities because it is not what you say, do, or think that matters, it is the ability to make your words, deeds, or thoughts, come to life through the exercise of power that truly matters.

The natural extension of this meme is racism is congenital for Whites.

Let me try this.

The protests against Bush were extremely angry and hateful, despite how righteous the War on Terror was.  Therefore, the left's motivation could have only been inspired by the fact that the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State were black.  This undertone of racism means that the left's manufactured outrage was purely inspired by racism.

Wow!  It's easy to think like a liberal!  You don't have to objectively consider the opposition's point, you just set your sights on racism and run with it!  None of that icky "deep thought" required.

Posted by: Crusty at September 16, 2009 11:09 AM (qzgbP)

130 WRT "[t]wenty-two percent (22%) of those in the president’s party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure."

Once again, consult Alinsky's:

RULE 3: "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy." Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)

I'd say charges of racism coming from the Democrats/Neo-Liberals to rebut every freakin' critique now fits like a glove. "Racism" is their Alamo, comfort zone, and expertise. It's no wonder they serve it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to an opposition that doesn't engage in such expertise.

RULE 6: "A good tactic is one your people enjoy." They'll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They're doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones. (Radical activists, in this sense, are no different that any other human being. We all avoid "un-fun" activities, and but we revel at and enjoy the ones that work and bring results.)

Yep. They've always enjoyed the "racist" charge tactic because it had always worked so well in shutting up opposition rather than argue merits. Fortunately, I see this one ending soon and joining buggy whips and DoDo birds.

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

This remains the ubiquitous one. "Teabaggers," mobs, Nazi's, terrorists, and... racists - that now traditional favorite. This one has an increasingly short shelf-life, too, since a) it appears increasingly desperate, and b) the Marginalized-Stream Media cannot accomplish classical interference and proxy embargoing of information.

This is just getting too easy. Too many people are noting the tactic now and know how dishonest the reflexive charge from the Left. By the end of the Age of Obama (which will be a little over three years barring expedited term-limit from more ACORN shoe-dropping/Czar exposés, conservative takeover of Congress in 2010, and impeachment proceedings), the term "racist" will be equivalent to "poopyhead" - a meaningless slur revealing only the infantilism of the accuser.

So, thanks, Nancy et al.! We couldn't have done it without you.

And what about those who are darker than Barry who disagree with him? (Thomas Sowell is a good example.) Wouldn't that make Barry racist for disagreeing with Dr. Sowell?

Gosh, it's so confusing when skin color decides the issues rather than common sense and facts...

Last weekend, I ordered chocolate Ugg Classic Cardy hoping they wouldn't show marks as much as my beige ugg cardy boots and waterproofed them when I first got them. They look so much cleaner than my old beige ugg boots, I wear my Whooga's all year round, they don't make my feet sweat as much as my older pair. I'm very impressed with how they are holding up to my abuse, very well made. My only suggestion to everyone is keep them dry and out of the mud.Ugg Classic Cardy!
