Congressman To Obama "You Lie" Bumped And Updated: Wilson Apologizes
Obama was going through his "illegals won't be covered by my plan" shtick when Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina took exception.
Some of people’s concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren’t so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.So Obama calls Palin a liar (not by name but everyone knows who he's talking about) but we are supposed to get our panties in a bunch because Wilson yelled it out? At least Wilson had the guts to do it to in the same room. UPDATE: Wilson issues apology.

You can claim to exclude illegal aliens all you want, but unless you have a requirement for proof of citizenship or other legal status, "No Illegal Aliens Allowed" is meaningless. It's like putting up a sign saying "No Minors" and then not having an ID check.
I don't know if there's such a requirement. That's what to look for.

HR3200 says no illegal immigrants. Except there is no enforcement provision whatsoever.
Republicans put forward Heller Amendment, which would have put in an enforcement mechanism to exclude illegal immigrants, by applying the existing SAVE program. (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements)
Democrats voted against this on a party line vote, killing it in the ways and means committee.

Politicians live to be re-elected or to move up into a higher level office.
The tea parties and town halls have shown that the American public is ready for some serious opposition, ready for someone in Congress to really lay into the Obamites, especially when the whole nation is watching.
Yet only ONE Republican had the wits or the balls to actually interrupt Jug Ears on National Television. In so doing, Wilson instantly made himself a prime candidate for higher office. Only one GOP'er had the courage to grasp that moment.
That tells me a lot about the slithering invertebrates we have in the GOP.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two out of three Americans who watched President Barack Obama's health care reform speech Wednesday night favor his health care plans — a 14-point gain among speech-watchers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll of people who tuned into Obama's address Wednesday night to a joint session of Congress.
Sixty-seven percent of people questioned in the survey say the support Obama's health care reform proposals that the president outlined in his address, with 29 percent opposed. Those figures are almost identical to a poll conducted immediately after Bill Clinton's health care speech before Congress in September, 1993.
The audience for the speech appears to be more Democratic than the U.S. population as a whole. Because of this, the results may favor Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tune into the speech. The poll surveyed the opinions of people who watched Wednesday night's speech, and does not reflect the views of all Americans.

Factcheck states correctly that this bill, along with all current laws, does not authorize non-citizens receiving health care benefits. No one disputes this. The lie is that this means they will not receive them. In other words the government will insure that they do not. This is what is being implied and this is clearly a lie. The government does nothing to insure this now and will not in the future.

The president has proven his ability again to speak very well and say very little. He continued to try and sell his government-run health care experiment even though it will increase costs, increase taxes and increase the deficit. He said he wants to work with Republicans, but Nancy Pelosi and liberals in the House have opposed Republicans every step of the way. If the Democrats are serious about passing health care reform this year, they should stop pointing fingers and truly start working with Republicans to pass common-sense bipartisan health care reform that Americans want and deserve.

I was thinking the same thing, CDR M. The US could've opted to expand truly free enterprise in health care in the US to draw foreign coin as well as optimize our own pipeline of health care -- make it a jobs growth and profit center where we already have an advantage over everyone else on the planet -- but have Obumbles looking to castrate it, spend lots of money to do it, and set us back at least a generation.
This has stumblefuck and missed opportunity written all over it. I only hope that Obumbles environment czars don't outlaw planes.

In his speech, Obama endorsed mandatory coverage for individuals, an approach he did not embrace as a candidate.
He proposed during the campaign — as he does now — that larger businesses be required to offer insurance to workers or else pay into a fund. But he rejected the idea of requiring individuals to obtain insurance. He said people would get insurance without being forced to do so by the law, if coverage were made affordable. And he repeatedly criticized his Democratic primary rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton, for proposing to mandate coverage.
"To force people to get health insurance, you've got to have a very harsh penalty," he said in a February 2008 debate.
Now, he says, "individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance — just as most states require you to carry auto insurance."

As had been pointed out before mandatory health coverage is clearly unconstitutional. I do not have to drive a car if I do not wish to buy auto insurance. It is also a major flip flop over what Obama campaigned on. If the elction was a mandate for Obama's changes shouldn't it also be a mandate against what he clearly ran against? What gives the government the right to force people to buy health insurance simply because "they can afford it" as Obama stated in his speech?

It's really crazy watching things happen like they are and wondering where the hell good sense went.
Until I remember the eight years of Bubba, the Florida fiasco, and the eight years of relentless BDS. Then, when you trace the roots all the way back through Carter, Church, McGovern, FDR, and Wilson, it's clear that it's been a long time coming.
We are a house divided that can no longer stand.
There are two upsides to it, though:

Obama asked for it. He said that if people lie, we should "call them out". Wilson was just speaking truth to power and as we all know, dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
If "lie" was too harsh, the president called what Sarah Palin said a "lie" explicitly (though without using her name).
So he apologized. He can't unring the bell and it is pealing.

I’m glad he said it. He was right...it is a lie. I tweeted him and thanked him for speaking for the rest of us who were yelling the same thing at our TVs.
You know what this is like?
It’s like when an attorney asks a leading question to a witness or adds commentary that he knows will be objected to...but simultaneously knows that people can’t UNHEAR something once it’s been said, even if a judge tells them to disregard the comment.
Likewise... we’ve heard this now. And like Palin’s “death panel” comment, we can’t unhear it.

And Americans now have a reason to look into the possibility that illegals would in fact be covered.

So, yes, the president wants to enact the exact sort of redistributionist plan that my state has forced on me with auto liability insurance.
On another topic, perhaps someone could explain how he's going to remove the maximum lifetime benefit limits, force insurance companies to accept people with preexisting conditions add 30 million new people and lower cost all at the same time? I guarantee that, if this plan were to go into effect today, the premiums that insurance companies would have to charge would be so high that 75% of private employers would drop health coverage and force everyone into the public plan.
And by far the most cynical bit of all is the fact that he doesn't want this travesty to go into effect for four years giving him time to be reelected before the people realized how screwed they really are.

Joe Wilson should not have apologized. What he should have said is that he would apologize AFTER the lying crap weasel admitted he was a liar and that the House version of the plan has all the stuff in it that he keeps saying is not there.
It will be interesting to see how Fox handles it in the morning. I know how the other lying crap weasel networks will handle it already. They will just say it is an example of the Republicans not wanting to “work with the Dems and being the party of no”.

As for being like auto insurance; even with liability insurance you can’t cover previous wrecks by getting a new policy. Forcing insurance companies to cover previous conditions takes it out of the insurance field and puts it in the socialized medicine deal.

Wilson's shout out did not help, it looked stupid IMHO, in fact it was humorous because it looks like to me that his statement was suppose to be mixed in with the booing that Obama was geting from the crowd, but the crowd stopped and he let it rip right after the chamber went silent.
Wilson should be there focusing on stopping this train wreck from happening and not get into town hall mode, town hallers are angry at "government" and their quest for ultimate power, the people be damned and Wilson is part of that until him and the rest of them are either out on their asses or can prove by consistent actions that they are doing the peoples bidding....This ill timed shout out doesn't rate as helping the people in any way, him scrambling to apologize (which he needed to do IMHO) and bee line to exit the chamber to avoid reporters shows that his mouth is bigger than his values......staying and answering questions on his shout out would have earned much more respect with me than slipping out with his tail tucked.

Keep in mind that the reason for the beat down was that dueling with Sumner was not possible because he was not a “gentleman”. Sumner had made some disparaging remarks about Brooks’s cousin, Senator Andrew Butler. Since Brooks could not be challenged, he was beat down.

I don’t know about that. It sure got brought up on Fox this morning and a diferent R explained why it was a lie. Personally I got a copy of the speech and was going through it copying sentences that were lies and explaining why they were lies. Every paragraph starting on the first page had some kind of a lie or distortion and most had two. Since the speech had 66 paragraphs that would have resulted in app 100 lies. I quit after the first page.
If Wilson had stuck around to explain Il Douche’s lies he would have had to talk all night and the next day.
