Natural 20: Town Hall Protester Scores a Critical Hit on Norm Dicks

As someone who has fretted about people doing bad YouTube-friendly confrontations, I've urged people to properly categorize themselves as either effective or ineffective spokesmen.

Her? Effective. I just popped a rhetoric-boner clean through my pants. Every bit of her rhetoric was good -- but then she threw the cherry on top with that genius dramatic flourish at the end?

Showmanship, baby. Tonight's dinner? Steak with a heaping side-order of sizzle.

Stolen from Hot Air, but I needed this chick on my site.

Allah notes that her "come and take it" isn't meant in the Molon Labe-ish way, but no matter, it's close enough and will be used in that manner.

Witness the birth of 10,000 tee shirts and posters.

Email of the Day: Charles Johnson just emailed me:

That guy sitting three seats down from her with the squirrely haircut? I have it on good authority, nearly as good as Van Jones signing his name to a Truther petition, that he once read some Truther literature on a Peter Pan bus to Poughkeepsie, but I notice you don't want to mention that. Sigh. The hypocrisy never ends.

Her Blog: ...is here. I think.

Now, I was just debating with Drew (who found this) whether she is "partly outed" or "all the way outed" and if it was fair to push her further out. But the fact is the information is right there on the YouTube clip, and she's about to become at least a cable-news celebrity, so I figure: She's all the way outed.

I normally would have waited to ask her, but this clip is going to be on every cable channel.

Except MSNBC.

Here's an interview with her... I think.

That's Not Her? A protester says he knows that blogger, "Liberty Belle," and the Twenty-Dollar Terrorist isn't her.

So maybe mistaken identity or similar names.

...

History Lesson: Several commenters tell me "come and take it" was a war-cry of the Texas Revolution in 1835."

I don't see how that changes things, though. That, presumably, was also a Molon Labe taunt. Her taunt is different -- "If you want my money, don't take it sneaky-like by rationing my care and adding in exciting new taxation items to my FICA; be a man and take it from my hand."

Again, though, it doesn't matter how it was used; the Molon Labe and Alamo war-cry resonance is right there.

It's all good.

...

Bonus Cowbell: I'm going to use my powers as blogger to just declare this a cowbell-worthy moment, and link my favorite Pink Floyd cowbell song.

Gluttons, man. Always feeding at our trough. Gettin' fat off the sustenance we provide but always hungry for more.

16 I realized something; many people think that the Tea Party protesters are 'wasting their time' with other pursuits, but to be honest, these people are of the same group. I heard cries similar to these (not delivered in the same way, this was nothing short of pure brilliance) when I was at the Hartford and Norwich CT protests on 4/15. These Town Hall protesters are of the same flock, just under a slightly different name.

I posted this on Hot Air in response to AllahPundit and will re-post it here. Don't they teach American history in American classrooms? Or do they just pledge allegiance to Obama?

"I don’t think she means this in the molon labe/'pry 't from my cold dead hands, sucka' sense but rather the “be man enough to act like the thief that you are' sense."

This Texas historian just shakes his head. The "Come and take it" banner was an important part of the Texas fight for independence. The Mexican army demanded their cannon be returned, but the Texians...

WIKIPEDIA: BATTLE OF GONZALES
As Moore returned, the Texians raised a homemade white banner, with an image of the cannon painted in black in the center and the words "Come & Take It". They then fired their cannon at the Mexican camp. Realizing that he was outnumbered and outgunned, Castañeda led his troops back to Bexar. The troops were gone before the Texians could reload and fire the cannon a second time. In his report to Ugartechea, Castañeda wrote "since the orders from your Lordship were for me to withdraw without compromising the honor of Mexican arms, I did so".

79 About this Texas war cry "Come and take it" subtopic, I'm not at all sure she isn't just using a common phrase. It doesn't have to be a reference to mid-19th c. Texas history. If she was from Texas, it would be more convincing, but she's not. She's from Washington. Having taught Social Studies in Washington, I can tell you they don't learn much about Texas history there. Posted by: Johnny McObvious

I have to agree, we may be overanalyzing it as if it were an exclusive phrase.  Is it Texas Revolution, or Leonidas, or Charlton Heston?  Or is it just some gutsy lady boiling this socialist healthcare plan down to what it really is--theft--and standing in defiance against that theft?  As I myself used to say on the gun control debate forums, if you think my guns should be taken away from me, come get them yourselves, hippies, see what happens.

The truly pernicious part is they don't need guns or boots to do this. They can, sitting at a keyboard, simply take the money out of your bank or garnish your wages or put a lien on your property. Whatever form a revolution may take, it won't be one with guns. It may be one of building an whole underground economy, separate from officaldom.

He might say he should be booted. He mentions other bad stuff about Van Jones but on this particular point he's being egotistically stubborn.

He was right of the gate asserting that Jones never signed nothin'. When Jones confirmed he had signed it, he felt trapped (can't admit error) and slid into a new defense, "He was deceived."

Note that Jones has made NEITHER claim himself. He never said he didn't sign it, and never said he was deceived. He said he didn't "review the petition carefully," which faults only himself, and hints not of outside deception.

But Johnson is now emotionally and egotistically invested in salvaging part of his original contention and so feels free to assert defenses that Van Jones himself won't assert.

Because Jones knows they're untrue.

How Johnson doesn't fail to realize that -- that if the defenses CJ suggests were available to Jones, he'd, um, avail himself of them -- is beyond me.

No, I'm not new here at all. Sorry about the tone.

"Come and Take It" is on Hot Air and Ace of Spades. I see the original posts on two conservative blog websites, I see all the comments on both sites, and geez, no one's from Texas? No one remembers these words?

That's all.

If you want to know more about who I am and what I've done and where I'm coming from, it's a long, long story.

I'm a contributor to the Yale Book of Quotations, and I was more than a little disappointed (but not surprised) that "Come and Take It" is not there.

118 As a native Texan who is currently in the communist territory of Illinois, I went on to the intertubes and purchased a 'Gonzales Flag' not long after BO was immaculated.

I flew it one morning on my way to work. My wife called me first thing and said, 'What the hell is this thing flying from our flagpole?'

I often forget that denizens of the lesser 49 aren't as educated in Texas history as they should be. If i remember correctly from my school days, we were the only state that joined the union via a treaty. Dave-in-Texas should correct me on this.

'Come and Take It' is a great motto that we should adopt for all resistance against gov't intrusions into our lives. Not only is it historically grounded, it serves as a not-so-gentle reminder to liberals that we're the ones with the guns.

I love emphasizing that fact whenever I talk to a lib.

Just curious...one sign at a tea party makes us all Truthers? It is an open debate and all are welcome to join. The only thing that Beck has spoken to has been the truth. Something that is quite lacking on your site for the past year.

A question for you Charles...irregardless of the accusations of trutherism. Do you or do you not, given his past history from everything to communism to eco-terrorism, feel that there is or is not a bounty of evidence to support his resignation? I challenge you to answer this question.

And oh by the way, commenting here sucks. I thought you were the computer "guru". It took me five minutes to post something that could be done in 30 seconds elsewhere.

Let's see how long it takes me get banned.

By the way, is anyone but me troubled by the way that everyone is taking credit for the Van Jones info.  Beck did the heavy lifting (Jones has been a topic for at least 4 weeks), no one is giving him credit for it and now all the conservatives are jumping on the bandwagon and not giving Beck credit for it?

"Come and take them" is what the 300 Spartans said when the million-strong Persian army told them to turn over their weapons during the Battle of Thermopylae. You know, they made a movie about it called "300."

The quote, circa 480 BC, has been used in varying forms many, many times since. My brother-in-law, former Delta Force, has it tattooed in Greek on his arm.
