Big Rumor: Leon Panetta Resigns from CIA?
Nope: CIA Spokesman Denies

Denial: Spence Ackerman called, and got right on through, as he's a lefty:

“This report is false, wrong and bogus,” said CIA spokesman George Little.

Incidentally, Erick Erickson checked his spam folder and he has an email from the CIA spokesman, too, saying it's not true.

Seems to quash the rumor. Unless it's so hush-hush at this point that not even the CIA spokesman knows about it, but in that case, how did Erick Erickson get tipped?

Thanks to Gabe for that update.

...

Only a rumor, only a rumor.

Still, it's big enough to link. It's from RedState.

I’m hearing a very credible rumor that Leon Panetta has dispatched a resignation letter to Barack Obama on vacation.

...

The rumor is unconfirmed, but given the sourcing I think it is safe to treat it credibly.

Thanks to Gabe.

Who's Left? Cautiously Pessimistic writes what I was just going to--

Any bets on who replaces him? An ACORN founder, or avowed communist, maybe?

Don't forget "union stooge."

Or...

I've got the perfect person.

Sandy Berger.

Thanks to Ben for that.

Background: In case you missed it, Drudge and everyone else linked this ABCNews story reporting a profanity-filled screaming fight between Panetta and some of Obama's toadies. and the threat -- threat -- of resignation.

Thanks to A.G. for providing the link.

23 Well its going to be hard to convince the sleeping 1/3rd of the country that things are running smoothly with Panetta's going ballistic.  So, the resignation will not be accepted. This Holder investigation coming when it did - after the Obamacare plan faced the death panel and was judged unworthy - is political payback. Timing such as this is never a mere coincidence. Panetta is playing his hole card.

You're correct to assume if this rumor is true,  this is bad.  The CIA would start leaking secretes like a kitchen strainer.  Agents will die.  I hope Panetta has the balls to stay in place and fight the good fight.

He secretly calls himself triple six and is wondering when he might get a chance to use his new super sleuth ring . . . And, just when he has everything he's ever wanted, these asshats come along and decide to mess up his gig?!  He ain't gonna stand for this crap!

69 Maybe Panetta is showing some sense, if confirmed, this is coming within days of Holder appointing a special prosecutor to "investigate" the CIA after the WH said it wouldn't it. Morale at CIA, especially amongst those who are in the field gathering human intel, has gotta be less than shit. And for shitty govt pay, do you think they are going to make extra effort to gather intel if they might get prosecuted. Hell no.

Bad intel leads to unforeseen things, maybe even "man-caused disasters" or whatever fuckin PC label terrorist attacks are now called. Do you want to be Panetta when that shit happens, because BHO throws people under the bus faster than reporters call conservatives racist.

Panetta has enough political savvy to see the buttfucking he will get if there is an attack on his watch, and he is smart enough not be there when it happens.

So who was Panetta's runner-up, because that's who Obama's already been interviewing.
"One of the candidates reportedly has begun a series of preparatory briefings."

Talk about the frame-up job Obama's masters are doing on the CIA: "Panetta is also "uncomfortable" with some of the operations being carried out by the CIA that he did not know about until he took the job." Panetta's wee weeing, going to get as much distance between himself and the CIA beforehand.

The shouting match wasn't in defense of the CIA, but in his own vested career interests."A "profanity-laced screaming match" at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying..." Holder's double crossing Panetta who only accepted the job on condition that the "torture" issue be permanently dropped. "Panetta erupted in a tirade last month during a meeting with a senior White House staff member. Panetta was reportedly upset over plans by Attorney General Eric Holder to open a criminal investigation of allegations that CIA officers broke the law in carrying out certain interrogation techniques that President Obama has termed torture."

In addition to concerns about the CIA's reputation and its legal exposure, other White House insiders say Panetta has been frustrated by what he perceives to be less of a role than he was promised in the administration's intelligence structure. Panetta has reportedly chafed at reporting through the director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, according to the senior adviser who said Blair is equally unhappy with Panetta.

"Leon will be leaving," predicted a former top U.S. intelligence official, citing the conflict with Blair. The former official said Panetta is also "uncomfortable" with some of the operations being carried out by the CIA that he did not know about until he took the job.

...senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials. "You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year," a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told ABCNews.com.

Six other current and former senior intelligence officials said they too had been briefed about Panetta's frustrations in the job, including dealing with his former Democratic colleagues in the House of Representatives.

One of the officials said the White House had begun informal discussions with candidates who were runners-up to Panetta in the CIA director selection process last year.

One of the candidates reportedly has begun a series of preparatory briefings.

"It would be a shame if such as talented a Washington hand as Panetta were to leave after one year," said Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant who worked on the national security team for the Clinton and Bush administrations and served as an adviser to President-elect Obama.

"It takes that long for any senior bureaucrat to begin to understand what needs to get done and how to do it, "said Clarke. "The CIA needs some stability."

CIA spokesman George Little said the report was "wrong, inaccurate, bogus and false." A White House spokesperson, Denis McDonough, said reports that Panetta had threatened to quit and that the White House was seeking a replacement were "inaccurate." Since 9/11, the CIA has had five directors or acting directors.

You bet he would be if this actually pans out. He's being set up and he knows it. He's had access to the old anti-terrorist data, its outcomes, and the certain lamentations of field agents. He can see the writing on the wall. CIA will not be able to carry out its mission and it will fail with its hands tied. Panetta will get blamed.

Knowing the history of those like Panetta, this is career-saving preemption more than it's patriotism. (Yes, I'm a cynic and question no end the motivations of those ensconced in D.C.)

It could be both, Panetta may have taken a stand to protect the CIA, his turf, and lost, and now is getting out before SHTF and shielding his ass. Assuming he has integrity, he has a two-fer, he can stand on his honor and cover his ass.l

If he replaces Leon Panetta with an "anti-zionist" like Freeman, "that would be bad". Yes, I'm quoting Ghostbusters.

I could see the Mossad severing its intelligence ties with the US. I could also see the Mossad nabbing terrorists that lower-level CIA grunts are monitoring. Within the CIA the infighting will be epic between pro-Israel and pro-Arab factions. Or, if the shit-filled Twinkie really gets to room-length size, imagine a public trial of CIA agents who are accused of sharing data with Israel that they haven't been authorised to do.

154 Thanks Gabe.  I knew they were different stories, it was just that the 1st one sounded like a precursor to this.  Dont remember if I first came across it here or at hot air, but I see it here now.  I just wasnt aware if it was common knowledge that the FBI is actually part of the DOJ, putting this under Holder.  And we know Holder's views.

Personally, I think this is all by design.  Obama is saying that we should move on in regards to the CIA interrogations because he knows it is a hot issue that he could get badly burned from.  But by having the unelected, "independently operating" Justice Dept do it, then he gets to be teflon.  Its like chess... you sacrifice a pawn to kill a rook; you sacrifice a rook to kill a queen; you sacrifice the queen for the checkmate.  The idea being you let someone else take the hit so you can get the bigger objective.

Obama is being LBJ in Afghanistan (ramp it up, but do so incompetently), he is being mid-70's congressional democrat in regards to Iraq (withdraw then abandon), and the anti-cia democrat, which will blind us.  Whomever is heading the CIA will be either a fallguy or a willing accomplice in the Obamageddon of this country.

Saudi Child Bride Turned Back Over to 80-Year-Old Husband

A member of the National Society for Human Rights said there are no regulations in place to stop the marriage of young girls, which is seen as harmful to their wellbeing.

"Such marriages are considered a gross violation of charters on the rights of children, which the Kingdom has signed and which set the age of adulthood at 18," Maatouq Al-Abdullah told Arab News.

And yet there are a bunch of asswipes who want us to signup for this unconstitutional treaty that would take away the authority of parents to raise their children.

The question is,  did he lose his temper and threaten resignation,  or is this a way to strongly hint to him to stick with the administration program or get lost?
