White House...Yeah We Did Hire An Outside Company To Send Out Emails By David "AstroTurf" Axelrod *

News so damning that the Friday afternoon dump wasn't good enough.

The White House hired a private communications company based in Minnesota to distribute mass e-mails, helping to shed light on how some recipients received e-mails in support of President Obama's health care plan without signing up for them, FOX News has learned.

The company, Govdelivery, describes itself as the world's leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions and says its e-mail service provides a fully-automated on-demand public communication system.

It is still unknown how much taxpayer money the White House provides to Govdelivery for its services.

Now the company they hire has other government contracts but this is spending public money to fund a political message. Yes, the line can be thin sometimes but Obama is taking it to a whole new level. Change! indeed.

*I changed the headline because I don't think the company really qualifies as a "Spammer". The White House gave them the emails, it's not Govdelivery's fault some of them were unsolicited.

I'm not so sure about the snitch website.

Didn't a bunch a people report themselves? If yes, did they get one of the US gov spam letters? Did anyone here get one of those letters? I'm guessing it was from some other database.

Who paid for the spamming? Is that legal?
And where indeed did they get the addresses?
Or did they buy them from the spammer?
If so, can someone sue them now?

Yes to your questions.  Yes, I reported myself, and yes, I started receiving the Axelrod emails within two days.  I believe the White House is also spamming people who email their congressional representatives. In February of this year, I emailed my senators and representative about the spendulus. Again, within days, I started receiving emails from Barack Obama AND Michelle Obama.  You can bet I never requested communication from them.  So, either reps are giving up their email lists voluntarily, or the White House is simply taking them.

Dear Sir,

I am Barack Obama the only son of late former Director of Economics, Chief Barack H. Obama of Kenya diamond and mining corporation. I must confess my agitation is real, and my words are my bond in this proposal. My late father diverted this fund acquired from the over influencing of price of sales/purchasing of raw materials., now he deposited the money with the US DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY BY FIXED DEPOSIT FORM, where I am residing under political asylum with my young daughters who are 11 and 8 years old. Now the despression in my country is overwith the help of SEIU soldiers, the present government of the US has revoked the passport of all officers who served under the former regime and now ask countries to expel such person at the same time, freeze their account and confiscate their assets, it is on this note that I am contacting you, all I needed from you is to furnish me with your bank particulars:

1) Bank name
2) Account name
3) Account number
4) Bank address, telephone and fax numbers to enable me transfer this money in your private bank account, the said amount is nine Trillion United States Dollars (US$9.000.000.000.000.00).

90 Hey Ace,

I run the abuse desk at an email marketing company. Actually it is Govdelivery's responsibility to ensure that no unsolicited emails are sent by them. There are numerous ways to ensure this:

Require proof of opt-in
Require members of the email list to confirm their opt in
Show proof of sign up process
Require the list owner to retain details of when/how each member signed up

If this were any email marketing service from Constant Contact to AWeber to Vertical Response, their IP's would be blocked by gmail, AOL, yahoo etc and they open themselves up for lawsuits according to Can Spam regulations.

Also, the usual limit for spam complaints is 0.1% I wonder how many folks hit the "report spam" button!

Please note, "permission" means that they gave explicit permission to receive emails and that it was clear that they agreed to receive emails regarding health care specifically.

Also, please note that these days, reputable senders follow a "double opt in, closed loop" system that requires the email address to confirm their subscription - this in turn stops people from signing up others' names.

The govt has flouted it's own policies regarding spam and could be liable in court. I know my company would have been

*I changed the headline because I don't think the company really qualifies as a "Spammer". The White House gave them the emails, it's not Govdelivery's fault some of them were unsolicited.

I'm not sure that that excuse would work for anyone in court.  If a company takes any list of emails and just sends to them, then it is a spammer.  I would also bet that the Spamming company, Govdelivery, doesn't require that emails given to it be solicited.

This was clearly spamming and both the White House and Govdelivery are guilty parties.

Dacid Frum over at Hot Air;..Of course, there’s a more likely explanation for the lack of outcry: this administration’s lack of moral center on terrorism. Whether it is his gentle reproofs of Ahmadinejad or his readiness to shake hands with Hugo Chavez, Barack Obama just does not get all that excited about international bad actors. Not that the president never gets angry. He can get plenty angry over the arrest of Henry Louis Gates or Israeli settlements. Lockerbie: not so much

106 So if Axelrod offers a cool half million to Ace for the email addies of everyone here ... does he take the money?  What if he offers immunity to Ace ... no goons at his doorstep ... unless he says no?

Something wicked this way comes ...

In a heartbeat.  That's like 100k gallons of Val-U-Rite.

Anyone using their real primary email on blogs is just asking for trouble.

Either way, they're a bunch of arrogant pricks.

118 Axelrod skimming $24 million off for his company is more proof that the white house in now the world largest criminal enterprise. They had better quit closing the Super Max prisons. We're going to need them all for the ODumbo administration, Not to protect the public but to protect the criminal democrats from the public. Not true Sherlock, there are no reporters left in the Lame Stream Media, only O'Dumbo water carriers.
