House Majority Leader Hoyer: Public Option? Meh, Whatever

As I've said several times, it's not Republicans v. Democrats on health care, it's Senate Democrats v. House Democrats.

Now it's actually House Democratic leader v. House Democratic leader.

A day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that health reform won’t get through the House without a public option, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Friday that the public option may have to go in order to get a bill passed.

“I’m for a public option but I’m also for passing a bill,” Hoyer told reporters on a conference call. “We believe the public option is a necessary useful and very important aspect of this, but we’ll have to see because there are many other important aspects of the bill as well.”

In San Francisco Thursday, Pelosi said: "There's no way I can pass a bill in the House of Representatives without a public option.”

No doubt Obama will issue a statement blaming the Republicans for this.

BTW-Is that popcorn I smell?

"Any bill.  Because that's simply the first step.  And if we don't get it all now, eh, we'll get it later."

I really fucking hate Democrats and all they stand for.

14 That's not necessarily a good thing by-the-way, because Steny is competent, a liberal, but could actual do the job of speaker.  These slip-up and miscues that Pelosi has generously allowed won't happen -- no war with the CIA, no cap-n-tax bill with blank sections, mad scramble for health care, Murtha, etc.

That's a really good point. It's why I wanted Pelosi's guy to win the Majority Leader gig. Can you imagine what a Pelosi-Murtha team would have been like?

Still, if there's an open intra-party war, it'll take too long to get things straightened out to do much before everyone is panicked by the mid-terms.

Ideally Steny goes for it but doesn't quite get the job done. A wounded Pelosi and an ousted Hoyer? No, it's too much to ask for.

Beyond stupid.  Beyond fucking stupid.  At this point in time, whenever my 16 year suggest something that I formerly referred to as incredibly stupid, I am going to tell her she just did a dum-dum.

Where, oh where, was this outreach on the stimulus?  Where, or where, has he given an inch on healthcare?  You and"The One's" idea of working together is for people with a contrary view to give in to you.  You mistake style (lets have a beer together) with substance.  Which explains why you think a campaign slogan (Yes, We Can) is actually a plan.  The only example of "The One" working with people who have a contrary view of his is his decision to adopt several Bush-era plans on the war on terror.  And this is not Obama demonstrating his so called ability to work with others. Its an example of George W. Bush having enough class not to go out and say "I told you so".

You, are, still, an, idiot.

I don't believe this putz. Less than a week ago he called protesters unamerican, along with Pelosi. Suddenly he's ready to drop public option? No way. They are floating things out there to test how the left will reacte. Fortunatly it rightly makes all Dems in Washi ngton looks like the incompetant idiots that they are.

Looks like,  along with the press, they have come to the realization that the only dupes they are suckering with the lies, covering and BJ's they have spread are their own troll and lefties. Slowly some Dems and media that have deluded themselves into believing they can get back credibility and their reputation, will go against the Fruad. Then their own lefties will go after them and vice versa.

I read a study on dum-dums like Dum-Dum.  It basically found that when it comes to political thought, about 25-30% of people are "team players."

A team player is defined as someone who doesn't give a flying f*ck about policy, its implications, facts, reality, etc. as long as his "team" wins.

A dumb-fuck like Dum-Dum would support Obama if he proposed suspending the Bill of Rights and declaring himself emperor.

Dum-Dum doesn't do dialectics.

O/T:  President Obama gives Ramadan message, here's a snippet from the article at the Boston Globe:

Like many people of different faiths who have known Ramadan through our communities and families, I know this to be a festive time – a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But I also know that Ramadan is a time of intense devotion and reflection – a time when Muslims fast during the day and perform tarawih prayers at night, reciting and listening to the entire Koran over the course of the month.

These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.

@49

I was thinking that same thing.  Historically, the party in power takes a hit during midterms.  So, if you were resigned to losing some swing seats, you might decide to think strategically:  Get your opponents on the record as opposing cuts to Medicare.  Then, in 2012, bust that out to discredit them when you need to up the Medicare withholding rate to 3%.

The only problem is that there doesn't seem to be a return on that investment:  If you're going to lose swing seats, you might as well lose big and jam public option through.  And I really don't see BHO upping Medicare withholding until Feb 2013.

As someone else said, they'll probably just come back and jam something through.  Any donk that loses his or her seat in 2010 will get set up with a lobbying firm or a cushy job in the executive branch.  Or they'll get promised that in some back room deal and will be left to hang
