More Personal DiplomacySen. James Webb Visits Burma* And Brings Home American Captive.

No word on whether of not Webb had to turn the Burmese dictator upside and put his penis in his mouth.

Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia was also granted an unprecedented meeting with the junta chief, and was allowed to hold talks with Suu Kyi, the first foreign official permitted to see the Nobel laureate since she was sentenced to 18 more months of house arrest on Tuesday.

American John Yettaw, who was sentenced to seven years of hard labor for swimming uninvited to Suu Kyi's lakeside house in Yangon, will be deported on Sunday, Webb said in a statement from his Washington office.

The impending deportation indicates "good relations between the two countries and hope [that] these will grow," Yettaw's lawyer Khin Maoung Oo said. Webb echoed the sentiment.

Obviously this is good for Yettaw, though Im not sure one should expect rescue for having done something so stupid. You decide to enter crazy, dictatorial countries swim in a restricted lake to 'visit' a political dissident illegally at your own risk but good for Webb. Hopefully it leads to something better for the Burmese people as well, though that seems doubtful.

Theres no truth to the rumor that Bill Clinton released a statement saying, I would have gone but then I found out the American wasnt a hot chick. Whats the point of that?

*Yes, yes, I know. I simply dont care what brutal dictators want to be called.

What part of America do these idiots come from? New York City?

Another ugly American SOCIALIST, STUPIDLY wandering aimlessly into foreign territory without permission AS IF accidentally, certainly no deliberate premeditated intention to cause distress. 'B-b-b-b-but can't we all just get along?' As likely a scenario as any, these ugly Americans are sent to get "caught" and while "captured" pass/gather information before being returned.

American Thinker noted all of the luggage Gore's two female "reporters" brought home after their "internment". Where's the story published that they gathered? Promised not to tell in order to be released? When did that ever stop a reporter from spilling the beans? Maybe I missed it.

Too bad this supposed "moderate" goose-steps down the leftwing line in the Senate.  One interesting development is that in the last year or so the MSM has no longer been mentioning his name when they talk about Blue Dogs.  I know it's hard to believe, but there may be a chance the talking airheads have actually looked at his voting record.

19 So if 882 billion in cuts of Medicare will cut "20 percent" of Medicare benefits per year, why would obama's 600 billion in cuts of medicare be any different?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/17/politics/main4529142.shtml

Obama's remarks on Medicare amounted to a new front in the campaign's health care wars, and were aimed at persuading older voters to abandon McCain.

McCain wants to provide tax credits to encourage Americans to purchase private health insurance. To pay for it, he has proposed requiring workers to pay income taxes on the health benefits they now receive tax-free from their employers.

McCain's campaign says additional funding will be required to cover the full cost of the program.

"It turns out, Sen. McCain would pay for part of his plan by making drastic cuts in Medicare $882 billion worth, $882 billion in Medicare cuts to pay for an ill-conceived health care plan, even as Medicare already faces a looming shortfall," Obama said.

"It would mean a cut of more than 20 percent in Medicare benefits next year. If you count on Medicare, it would mean fewer places to get care, and less freedom to chose your own doctors," he added.

Can they please stop showing their linguistic talents after confering with their staff who have found an exotic word that makes them feel like they earned their degree in a shitty college of education, like "junta" and just say something that Americans understand?

not entirely the previous admiinstrations fault

financial crisis so bad revenues plummetted...money spent to make sure banking system didnt collapse

actions...did spike the deficit....the problem isnt the extraordinary steps....the real problem is longer....structural deficit for the last 8 years....

prescription drug benefit..by a gop congress...didnt pay for it....just went into structural deficit

fought the iraq war...we didnt pay for it

cut taxes...did not make cuts in programs

all added up to structural deficit that over the course of 10 yaers is 9 trillion dollars

i say that because....if we're gonna tackle that problem, the only way we can do it in an intelligent way is to get ahold of medicaidcare....

cant simply cut or tax our way out of the problem if we dont do that

now he's whining about foreign aid and pork being only 1% each of the budget

only about 30% of the overall budget....is non defense discretionary spending...national parks, edu, you name it. that's only about 25% of the budget - rest of SS medicare/caid

so i just want everyone to understand

if you are a fiscal hawk, deficit hawk, tired of this crazy spending in DC, finally make sure we are looking out for the next generation, then YOU more than ANYBODY should want to reform the health care system becasue if we dont do it, we cant solve that problem

AND THATS A RAP

what a demogogue.

93 Good to know Commissar.  I saw GIJoe this morning and was pleasantly surprised.  Given the worry about the international flavor of the organization, their chain of command turned out to be something I could live with.

I really wish they had gotten the guy from the cartoon to voice Cobra Commander.  Maybe next time.

97 boy those obamafraudsters sure are smart!

Does she know her Obama history?

As a close friend and senior adviser to the President, Valerie Jarrett knows her Obama trivia. But during a conversation ...

... with political comedian Baratunde Thurston at todays Netroots Nation event, Jarrett had a rare slip-up.

When asked what the mood was like when Tom Daschle withdrew as a candidate for secretary of Health and Human Services Jarrett said, "It was very sad. The president was very close to Daschle. He worked with him in the senate"

But the two never served together. Obama won his seat in the same 2004 campaign cycle in which Daschle, then the minority leader, lost his to Sen. John Thune.

113 The WashPost (spit!) story on this trip mentioned that Webb travelled to Burma as a private citizen at the behest of an American business man. Of course, the inquiry ended there, but had it been a republican no doubt this lead would have been pursued. Since Webb's a D, we're to believe the motives for the trip are as pure as driven snow and have NO CONNECTION to the oh so briefly aforementioned American businessman.
