Smokin' Video on Obama's Trojan Horse

From VerumSerum:

The compelling part of this, to me, isn't Obama's or Jan Shakowsky's statements that public option will lead to single payer. We've heard that. The compelling part is that Jacob Hacker, the man who "shopped" this plan to Congress (according to NPR), states unambiguously that his plan -- and he should know -- is expressly designed to displace private insurance.

"It's not a Trojan Horse," he says, "because it's right there!" I.e., it can't be a Trojan Horse if it's so obvious about its purpose.

Michael Barrone discusses the vid:

Hacker (formerly at Yale, now at Berkeley) sounds friendly and cheerful in appearances recorded in January 2007 and July 2008. With a government-option plan, he says in 2007, “You can at least make the claim that there’s a competitive system between the public and the private sector,” but he predicts that the government option “would eliminate the small group insurance.” [emphasis added]

Speaking of the government option in 2008, he says, “Someone told me this was a Trojan horse for single-payer. Well, it’s not a Trojan horse, right? It’s just right there. I’m telling you. We’re going to get there, over time, slowly, but we’ll move away from reliance on employer-based health insurance as we should, but we’ll do it in a way that we’re not going to frighten people into thinking they’re going to lose their private insurance. We’re going to give them a choice of public and private insurance when they’re in the pool, and we’re going to let them keep their private employer-based insurance if their employer continues to provide it.”

If the designer of the plan states that it's perfectly obvious to anyone that this is intended to take us to single-payer, and the plan's proponents claim the same, how on earth can Obama deny it? He himself has endorsed the idea of using this too-obvious-to-be-a-Trojan-Horse scheme to "eliminate" employer coverage.

Why does no one in the media ask a very obvious question: If Obama has no intention on taking us (without our consent) to single-payer, why is he insistent on a plan designed utterly for that single purpose?

And if he's changed his opinion or something on single payer, isn't it funny that he's pushing a plan expressly designed to get us to single payer without an actual vote or citizen consent on the plan.

Isn't. That. Funny.

"Let's have an honest debate," Obama says. "We can at least agree on that."

Well, some of us agree on that. How about you, Sport?

4 Ace there is a video of Tapper asking Gibbs point blank about his statements in 2003 and if the President still wanted single payer. Gibbes refused to answer the question and started sputtering a non answer for 30 seconds. 7 Wow, "this is not a principaled fight, this is a fight about strategy for getting there..."--Jan Shakowsky couldn't have said it any better.  And how about "The agenda for Shared Prosperity".  Oh and mighty half white of Obama to give us 10-20 years before all private insurance is eliminated.  These smug, evil douchebags need to be stopped.  I am feeling very pessimistic and think that the Democrats are going to ram this debacle through, but we need to go down fighting (I am so proud of the Americans who are standing up to this crap).  This is the final line in the sand.

30 A 'public option' is the guillotine looming over private insurance.

All they have to do is regulate private care with unreasonable demands, and have the public option only pay back a percentage of the costs it inflicts, as Medicare already does.  The costs will get shifted to paying customers' insurance, and drive up private costs until it collapses.

Presto...single-payer, because the gummint's the only one still in the game.

31 If you are a business and you can dump your employees on a public plan that you do not pay for, this is not brain surgery, you will do it, you will dump than faster than anyone can imagine.  And since people are so thankful to have ajob many have been giving up bonuses or having them them taken away, many have been foregoing vacations and many many people ahve endured more than one salary freeze  or cutback.  Most companies ahve also used the economy as an excuse to stop contributing to anyone's 401K.  So if companies are already doing this stuff, right in front of everyone, why would they not dump their employees and their insurance on a public company?

Posted by: muffy at August 10, 2009 11:09 AM (p302b)

32 Meanwhile, in yesterday's Boston Globe-Democrat...

Team Obama can spend August complaining about right-wing distortion of their healthcare agenda. Or, they can figure out how to tell their truth: Revamping healthcare is not an evil socialist plot to take away American rights. It’s a patriotic movement to guarantee them.

Well, I suppose I could believe my own lying eyes and ears...

Oh, and their truth?  That's precious, Joan.  Simply precious.

There shouldn’t be a country where the wealthy can always count on access to the best medical care; and the middle class is only OK until a downward economic spike throws their life, budget, and access to medical treatment into turmoil.

No.  Evidently in Vennochi-land, there should be an America where the politicians and politically connected can count on access to the best medical care, and for everyone else it's Soylent Green.

Please do read the rest of this unintentionally hilarious column - and the comments as well.  Here's a hint, when the comments - in the Boston Freaking Globe - are running against a lib-tard's arguments nearly 2-1 - well, you can draw your own conclusion.

33 [He said, knowing full well that private employers won't be able to compete with a tax payer-funded insurance option, thus making them unable to provide it in the long run . . .]

Of course. They're talking about an 8% payroll tax on small business that doesn't provide health insurance. I'd guess that's one hell of a deal, probably nowhere covers the actual cost. So as private insurers lose business and revenue, the government puts them out of business,
while;
   they dig the deficit deeper
until
they raise the cost to small business to reflect actual costs
which
starts the economy on a tall-spin again
and
   small business goes underground
end while

39 This is exactly why there can be no compromise on this issue with this president. Ever. He believes in the incrementalism of socialism if he cannot impose Marxism outright. He shot for the stars. So what if he falls just short? The cloak of compromise under withering dissent will mean his design just makes it to the moon; but, the seeds will have been sown. No way on Earth we escape the weeds to follow.

This president's policies must fail. Team Obama's platform to appeal to moderation, assuming it is even interpretable as such, remains the perpetual lie that it always was if not actually designed to be.

43 I really think that liberal politicians and academics still haven't fully grasped the reality of how widely and easily information can be disseminated these days.  In the past the broadcast and print media has traditionally covered for them so they've been able to tell the truth to friendly audiences without much fear that it would reach the public. They must be shocked now to see words spoken to a like-minded crowd reach millions of not so like-minded people.
