Daily Kos Scoop -- BREAKING! -- US SOLDIERS EXECUTING GAY IRAQIS!

Wow! Pulitzer them!

Actually it's the Washington Blade

A fundraising event to benefit an LGBT community center in Lebanon last week took a surprise turn when stunned audience members were shown graphic photographs of beheaded corpses and images purportedly depicting U.S. soldiers preparing to execute gay Iraqis.

Two gay Iraqi refugees, who declined to use their real names, delivered a presentation at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters July 24 in which they detailed alleged abuses of fellow gay Iraqis while calling on their audience to donate funds to Helem, a Lebanon-based center that works to address the plight of LGBT people in the Middle East.

One of the Iraqis, who goes by the name “Hussam,” showed the audience of about 80 people gruesome images, including shots allegedly of a beheaded man who was gay and another of the victim’s twin brother grieving over the severed head.

While asserting that anti-gay violence in Iraq is often committed by Iraqis, Hussam also said U.S. service members were involved in anti-gay hostility.

For example, he said service members displayed signs in front of their barracks with the words “Fuck Off Fags.”

But the reaction from the audience turned from anger to shock when Hussam said U.S. service members had detained Iraqi civilians perceived to be gay and executed them.

He then showed an image of what appeared to be an American soldier standing in front of a small group of four or five kneeling naked men who were chained together. Hussam claimed the men were gay Iraqis and that he possessed images of their execution, which he did not show the audience.

Dana Beyer, a transgender activist and Chevy Chase, Md., resident who attended the event, said she was “appalled” by the images of the atrocities, but especially by the allegation that U.S. service members were murdering gay Iraqis.

“When it comes down to our armed services … who potentially have contributed to atrocities like that, I’m just appalled,” she said. “And I hope that we will pursue this through the government, through the State Department and through the Department of Defense because this just can’t be left standing.”

...

When confronted by a Blade reporter after the presentation, Hussam said he feared public disclosure of the photos would incite further violence in Iraq and refused to turn over copies of the images.

Uh-huh. The guy's fundraising among well-heeled liberal gays, peddling a story sure to open wallets, but he can't show you the photos, because, um, the photos are explosive.

The claims? Not explosive. The proof of those claims? Explosive.

The Washington Blade isn't super-duper culpable here as they are, as newspapers do, playing stenographer to someone making a claim. I'd have liked to have seen a bit more skepticism in the article, but, whatever.

The Daily Kossites on the other hand are ready to run with it.

I can't help but notice that the MSM is at a DEFCON 1 state of alert for any criticisms of the president -- Rush Limbaugh said this, Glen Beck said that.

But they never seem to note that their left-wing compatriots spend an awful lot of time maligning our troops -- "mak[in'] stuff up," as Sarah Palin correctly put it.

Nor do I remember the MSM having any particular troubles with Keith Olbermann calling Bush a "fascist" thirty times, nor the spate of assassination-fantasy films and books that became a cottage industry when Bush was President.

But call Obama a racist and it's a national emergency.

Thanks to Doc Holliday.

8 $10 says that if the picture isn't a total fake, it's of IRAQI soldiers / security forces killing gays, NOT US soldiers, which is a bit of an open secret that hasn't been acknowledged by the US press.

There have been a bunch of ugly stories relayed about gays in Iraq being killed through some pretty disturbing methods by Iraqi authorities, such as gluing one of their openings shut until their internal organs burst.

Sorry, got to disagree. Running an inflammatory story without proof is as bad as making the claims yourself. In fact, it is the same as making the claims yourself. If they were real reporters they would have demanded the evidence -- because if it's real, it deserves to be exposed -- and in its absence simply tabled the story.
At the root, without evidence, this is just a couple of grifters giving a lefty audience what they want to hear. They're playing to the bigotries of the LGBT community, and apparently have pegged their audience quite well.

31 Pictures of severed heads and chained-up terrorists in Iraq are about as hard to find as air molecules. Pointing to pictures of these things and saying "See this? A US soldier did this cuz they was gay" doesn't actually present any proof of that, does it? I could take a picture of a puddle of blood and say, "This is where I shoot Bigfoot but he got up and walked away. This photo is proof of Bigfoot!"
The way liberals promote imagination to fact is truly pathetic.

70 Agreed: pix or it didn't happen.

The sad thing is, the leftard media is so easy to play that our enemies are getting depressingly good at it. Wave vague testimonials of discrimination or make claims that are long on drama and short on evidence, and you'll have them slobbering at your feet for more.

I've been writing fiction for years, and I'm well familiar with the classic formula: play to your audience with powerful images, and they won't question a thing. If you've got them sobbing, you've got them in the bag.

The giveaway was the beheaded guy. That's what my writing buddies call "plastic pathos"--a striking image that nevertheless doesn't fit the scene. It's the undamaged toy in the middle of a bomb site, the tear rolling down the cheek of a disaster victim who is nevertheless immaculately groomed. If called upon to kill, U.S. soldiers don't behead people. They shoot them.

Sheesh. For all the experience that the MSM has with fiction, you'd think they'd know how to spot sloppy writing when they saw it.

Damn,
someone beat me to the obvious Gates comparison. Victimhood hustling
has become some sort of fungal epidemic that now infects the fringes of
pretty much every demographic in America, across lines of race, class,
religion, political persuasion, and sexual instincts.

And the Washington Blade is very much culpable for the sensationalist headline (U.S. Military Accused of Atrocities Against Gays) while the astounding revelation that Shia and Sunni militias are
actually, demonstrably responsible for murdering gay Iraqis isn't even
hinted at until the 4th graf.

Which is why I implore my hetero
friends: Please, I'm not "gay," I'm just a garden variety homo. Mind
you, this isn't permission (merely encouragement) to refer to OTHER corndog-gobbling dudes as "homosexual," because the clichéd whining response from most "gay"
men is that "homosexual sounds too clinical."
(Although for some reason they have no trouble with heterosexual or bisexual.)

To which I say: Bah! Homosexual doesn't sound clinical; it sounds

"Gay," on the other hand, is a retarded word and an even stupider subculture, trust me.

90 Sounds like the gays are accusing US troops of something muslim militias do because they know its safe to accuse US troops of anything. While accusing muslims of something might result in their getting their heads sawed off. Notice that no one in the gay community ever has a compliant against the Iranian practice of hanging gays from cranes in football stadiums, but they always scream homophobia if anyone protests gay pride week, or whatever their cause du jour is.

Ridiculous lie.

92 Sorry, we were generally very tolerant of the fact Arabs are recreationally gay and go with the rule "women for children, men for pleasure". The fact that left to their own devices they tend to victimize younger men is disgusting though, even grosser than their pedophile weddings the fundamentalists seem to love.

93 Like this, Sgt Dan, of girls being married by Hamas (undoubtedly using Western dollars to do it)? [Via Kathy Shaidle's five feet of fury blog.]

94 FWIW the lot of women and children actually improved when Mo imposed Islam upon the Arabs in 7th century AD. Until then, women were treated more like chattel, with no rights. Children, particularly girls, might be killed if unwanted. Under Islam, women were second-class citizens with rights and proscribed rules of behaviour protecting them, and the baby-killing stopped.

Iran was different, in that it already had a developed and mature civilisation, with a far more reverential attitude towards the fair sex, when it was conquered by the Islamic forces. They already had a religion in the teachings of Zoroaster, the first to articulate the idea of a single God, and of a description of life and the universe as a battle between good and evil, truth and the lie, and the description of an angelic hierarchy, all of which were influential on Judaism.

Unfortunately, Islam never really moved on - it never had the reforms of a Maimonides or an Augustus of Hippo, admonishing it to adjust itself as human knowledge of the world expanded. Any progress that came out of the Islamic world (and there was some, in medicine, mathematics, map-making and engineering, for example) came from the already educated Iranian civilisation, which itself finally succumbed to the Islamic stupor.

Islam was a help once, over a millenia ago, to a certain group of people. Now it's an obstacle.
